Restarting application

Hi,
After about a day of frustration with the intricicies of Runtime.exec() and WinNT, I think I may have hit a standstill.
I need to be able to remotely restart my server. It is running on another machine and it has to restart so that it can be updated (via webstart).
The idea I had was to:
Connect to server and issue restart command (via RMI)
Start a seperate process (via Runtime.exec)
Have the process timeout for 30 seconds (via ping localhost)
Shutdown server (via System.exit)
Have the process restart the server (via java -jar)
The problem is that when I shutdown the server it looks like it takes all of the processes I started with it.
Is there anyway to do this?

Thanks for your response.
The problem is that I don't have access to winVNC or another app on the server. I don't control the server. The server is in another building, and whenever I need to do an update I have to call the people up and ask them to do it for me.
This leads to problems (political etc.), of which aren't really of concern to my question.
The latest idea I had but didn't have time to implement was to create a native C++ application that starts the server. The server has a command line argument causes it to delay for 30 seconds (I can't have it start right away else it won't be able to bind to the socket port as it's still being used). I'll let you know how that goes, as no one else seems to have a solution other then "you don't need to do that".

    When you log out, uncheck the box to reopen applications. If you're still using 10.7.3, then you will have to uncheck the back with each shutdown or restart.
    10.7.4 update was suppose to fix it that when you uncheck the box, it should remain unchecked for restarts after that.

  • Restart Application Error!

    Hi,
    In my application i have a form on a table. If in any of the text fields i press enter directly without entering any values(after landing on the page) it gives me "Restart Application Error". Can anyone help me on this please?
    Thanks,
    Akhil.

    Akhil,
    Any time you report a problem, it really helps if you give the entire error message if there is one. Did you actually get messages that looked like:
    ERR-1777: Page XX provided no page to branch to. Please report this error to your application administrator.
    Restart Application
    If so, it is most likely that your page is being submitted when you press enter in a text field and that the page has branches that respond only to certain button-pressed conditions (or "request" values). To fix this, you can create an unconditional branch that would be taken if the page is submitted in this way. For finer control over what happens when this event causes the page to be submitted, you can put into the page's HTML Header attribute (edit the page attributes to change this):
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function submitenter(e)
    var keycode;
    if (window.event) keycode = window.event.keyCode;
    else if (e) keycode = e.which;
    else return true;
    if (keycode == 13)
    doSubmit('PAGE');
    return false;
    else
    return true;
    //-->
    </script>
    If I'm not mistaken the above code would cause the page to be submitted with the request value set to 'PAGE' so then you could condition after-submit events to recognize that request value.
    Others may be able to suggest cleaner ways to address this problem.

  • After restart applications are "quitting unexpectedly"

    Not sure if this is relevant but the day my apple care expired I restarted my Macbook (using the apple) & once it restarted many of my apps are quitting unexpectedly. At first I thought it was just chrome, but others such as pages, skype and yahoo etc.
    Since I thought it was Chrome, I went to their website to find solutions, but none of that helped (also they suggested deleting a folder in the Application Support folder, but I didn't have one for google in there )
    When I found out my other apps were crashing (pretty much I can only access Safari and iTunes) I did some research. I restarted pressing command+R to do a repair disk. I needed repairs so I let Disk Utility do it's thing.
    I reinstalled Lion. . .and I still have the same problem. I'm not sure what else to do. I don't have anything to backup my files to yet, because it seems as if I'd have to erase my hard drive? I don't know.
    Please help. I start school next week and I need my Mac
    (Also sometimes all I'll have open is iTunes and the music will playing, then it will stop as if it on overload or something. This also happens in Safari)

    Do you have another user account in the same mac? If there's one, try to login using the other account and then try to launch iPhoto. If it can be launched without problem, then you may try trashing the preference file of iPhoto in *the account having the problem*. You may find the preference file of iPhoto in [Home of the account]/Library/Preferences and the file name of it is com.apple.iPhoto.plist. If you don't want to trash it, you may move it to another folder or rename it.

  • Dcmctl to stop/start cluster -- restart application server "busy"

    Hi,
    I am running two instances of 9iAS 9.0.2.x and 9.0.3 on two servers with a third being the infrastructure server. The 9.0.3 instances are clustered together.
    I'm using dcmctl to stop my cluster and start it again. We take the database offline nightly to reload the data from the customer site and need to stop the cluster while the database is being reloaded (schema user dropped and full import being done).
    I use:
    dcmctl stop -cl cluster
    and
    dcmctl start -cl cluster
    from one of the server's scripts. However, when we restart, the user's try to hit the web page and get an error stating that the application server is "busy".
    Is there a reliable way to stop and start, short of rebooting the servers?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • ACE Problem after restarting Application

    Hi,
    we have an ACE20 and have set it up to balance 4 Containers on a Oracle Application Server. Every time we stop all Containers at the same time for longer than an hour it takes forever (hours) until the Load Balancer starts balancing the Containers again. I can see that the ACE Module is checking the Containers in the Apache Logfiles on the Application Server and gets a 200, but still we can't access the Application for a few hours. If I connect direct to the Container it also works fine... just the ACE does not work. Like it has a timeout and is waiting.
    Any idea how to give it a kick?
    While accessing the Application I can see that it connects, but nothing happens...

    Hi,
    I'm still having problems with the ACE Laodbalancer. At the moment it doesn't seem to recover after having restarted the Application the last time.
    Can someone look at the Config and tell me if they see a mistake in it?
    I have three instances accesst, accesst2 and accesst3. Each instance has 4 Oracle Application Server Containers Deployed on 2 different Apllication Servers. The Site is split between 2 DMZ which are seperated by a Firewall. The Cisco Ace has one leg in each vlan (191 and 195). We always had a problem after taking the Applcation Servers down Updates that it takes forever untill the ACE Server starts blancing agian. For the last 4 Days it hasn't started reblancing yet. As far as I know nothing has changed in the Configuration of the Server or of the ACE. The Firewall Admin said he tried t find a problem, but didn't change anything.
    Do I maybe have a mistake in the ACE Config? Am I missing something here?

  • Restart application or reload jar-file(class-files)

    hi,
    i write an update service for my application!everytime a update is available, the new jar-file(my application) will be downloaded and replace the old, running jar-file! now i want to restart my application to use not a mix of old and new class-files in the vm!
    is there any possibility for restarting my java vm or is there another way to "refresh the class-files in the vm"?
    thx mseele

    Hi,
    The easiest way is to terminate the jvm (using System.exit), and just have a loop in the script file that starts your application. In that way your application will be restarted when the jvm exits.
    To write a classloader of your own is another, but a lot harder way.

  • Restart application on single server of a cluster

    Hi all,
    I have a cluster of three nodes/servers and I have deployed 2 applications on this cluster.
    I want to know if is it possible to stop and to start an application in a single server of the cluster, not on all servers of the cluster.
    Example:
    Cluster --> servers: 1, 2, 3
    Deployed applications --> A, B
    I want to stop B only at server 2, is it possible? If yes, how?
    Thank you in advance,
    Indrit Selimi

    Thank you very much for responding.
    Yes, I agree that theoretically all the nodes on the cluster will be aligned and there will be (and must be) no difference between nodes. But in real life applications, it can happen for example that one of the servers fails (ex. out of memory) and you have to reboot it; now, if for some reason application B fails to start (ex. problem with data source etc); why I should reboot the server halting also application A that have no problem? For this reason I was asking if there was a way to restart one application on single server of a cluster.
    Thank you very much again.

  • Restart application server programmatically

    Hi all,
    I want to restart my application programmatically rather than going manually i.e.(going to oracle application server interface and restart server from there.)
    Any help would be highly beneficial.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Please check if OAS gives you the ability to control it over jmx, then I think you can restart it programmatically.

    Hi,
    I did some testing and while I was able to connect to SQL plus with the "oracle" user I was unable to connect using the ""applmgr" user. When I try to conenct as the applmgr user I get an error ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact.
    Could this be why I am seeing the database connection related error when running adstrtal.sh and if so any suggestions on how to resolved would be greatly appreciated

    Do you have enough resources on this machine?
    For application, you have to source environment file from APPL_TOP. So are you sourcing the correct env file.
    Do you see any errors in the listener log file, db alert log file?
    Was you upgrade from 12.1.1 to 12.1.3 successful?, Did you get any errors while upgrading.

    You don't need special software to reset your N97 mini. You can reset your phone as follows:
    *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone
    To Hard Reset, you need to press and hold the Caps + Space bar + Delete button and turn the phone on using the power button while continuing to hold the first 3 buttons until you see the handshake.
    Always backup your phone regularly and before resetting because your data will be wiped, especially if you try the hard reset.

  • Concurrent manager status inactive every application services restart

    ebs: 11.5.10.2
    os: AIX 5
    whenever im restarting application server i mean to take coldbackup or for any workaround
    the concurrent manager are down i checked with command ps -ef|grep fndlibr|grep APPLMGR|wc -l it shows only one concuurent manager is running so i have to go for a Conccurent manager recover through OAM then all the conccurent manager are up the same ps -ef|grep fndlibr|grep APPLMGR|wc -l shows 15
    while going through Conccurent manager recovery is gives me orphaned Process(which is a schedule request from user--iam unable to cancel the request it says the conccurent manager which was handling this request does not exist) which is supposed to be killed but im unable to kill it at oslevel
    when i use kill -9 ospid it says ospid doesnt exist (may be it is ospid of the user system)
    can anyone say me why is this happening and lead me to a solution?
    shall i go for a cmclean and if yes then tell me what cm clean does...

  • [SOLVED] apache daemon fails to start on boot, but rc.d restart works?

    I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.
    /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
    # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    # ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>

    # Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
    # prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.

    The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
    I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

    All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here.

  • Application is not starting

    Hi,
    when i ran the report script i got the err cannot open cube view.essbase error (1002097)unable to load database
    and when i try to start the application i amgetting unable to load the database.

    Hi,
    Followiong could be the reasons of your problem: -
    1- Try to restart application and then try to start database.
    2- If point 1 not work then may be application process 'ESSSVR' for that application get hangh. So stop all app/db and check if any Esssvr is running from Task Manager then kill it.
    3- Restart Essbase Server and try to restart db again.
    4- If problem still persists then may be your db got corrupted and please restore it from backup.
    5- Also from your posted error, it is looking that Essbase internal application $DM_APP$ is either missing or corrupted so please make it in following ways:-
    5.1. Shut down Essbase
    5.2. Rename essbase.sec to essbasebackup.sec
    5.3. Rename $DM_APP$ directory, e.g., Backup_$DM_APP$ if it exists but if it doesn't do not worry about it.
    5.4. Restart Essbase. At this point, a new essbase.sec is created,along with a new $DM_APP$ directory and files associated withit.
    5.5. From EAS, make sure Data Mining part is working
    5.6. Shutdown Essbase
    5.7. Rename essbase.sec to essbasenew.sec
    5.8. Rename essbasebackup.sec to essbase.sec
    5.9. Start Essbase
    5.10. Check to make sure Data Mining part is working
    5.11. Try renaming application or load db
    5.12. Once all is working, remove essbasenew.sec.
    Hope it will help pyou.
