Hi Chandan,
These days this is in demand. Not many people know about it.Even tcode is rare. You have to be quick and efficient to provide the solution to the customer's scenario.it uses PHP interface which helps us in object orientation programing. So it would be an added advantage. As s devloper you can understand the thing easily.

  • What is best for my career: Sap ABAP or Sap BI

    Hi Experts,
I am Rajesh, done my bachelor degree in Information Technology,
having 4 years of Exp as a Mainframes Programmer in a Banking Software company.
    my job containts
    30 % understanding the product
    40 % Analysis
    30 % Programming
my career Goal is to get SAP job in Abroad(US/UK/AUS) for that i am planning like below:
First i want to gain some minimum(8-10 Months) Exp in India by
Choosing one Best(or)Hot Cake Module in SAP, which matches any one of 3 points
1)Currently that module should have more demand less supply.
    2)Should have good Future
3)it should not be much vast Because need to expertise Early
I already Trained and good in SAP-Core ABAP,
but just Core ABAP is not enough to get expertise in ABAP, because i need to add it with
    OOPS, Webdynpro, Workflow ETC.
even i Trained in all the above, it is difficult to be Expert in 1 YR.
and Hard to get job in US/UK/AUS.
So i am planning to go with SAP-BI for below Reasons
    1) SAP BI is not that much Vast compare to ABAP for becoming an Expert on it
    2) for Skill Set ABAP+BI, can have good openings
    3) SAP-BI is a techno functional Job, where ABAP is not a final Destination.
    4) in Future, BI will help to get into HANA.
I request you to guide me, whether my decision towards my Goal is correct or not,
if not, please give valuable Suggestions to reach my destination.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
as per as your selection of module, its a good mix, but i have a few words that i wants to share with you. Being a developer in sap abap i have come across some points where many indivisuals get strucked by asking what is next.
Started with sap abap you will have many options to go ahead, as you have seen that the combination of BI along with ABAP has an added advantages, and yes later on you can move towards HANA, one of the major sap module in which the database of sap persist in furure.
As far as i concern, if you wants to be in technical stream of sap you will have UI5, Webdynpro, Workflow, BW/ BI, HANA etc, so you may go ahead with these options, but as you have told that you wants to get hands on these things in one year, i think you have to devote in abap as much as possible
what you will require to know the syntax and semantics used in SAP, along with all the stuffs associated with it, once you will get familiar with it, you can play as you wants.
But one thing more is that its not mandatory to have sap abap knowledge to learn other technologies,  you can learn without abap, but if yiu have hands on in abap somehow it will boost your future in related technilogies.
So, finally your decision is on right track, what you will need is to get it as your passion.

    Hi Experts,
I am an ABAP developer and have keen interest in Web Development and Designing. I recently came to know about SAP and Adobe Flex integration. I want to be known as an ABAP-Flex Developer in my future.
I want to pursue my career in this domain. Kindly guide me regarding this, how should I approach or should I go for trainings. If trainings are an option, then please give their details.

  • Shifting career from ABAP development to BIW - expert opinions required.

    Hi Experts,
I am having around 2.5years of developement experience in SAP - ABAP, i want to shift my career to BIW - can someone guide me with all the pro's and con's of the same.
Infact i want to move away from coding stuff - what all the things are neccessary topics for me to cover in BIW to start a career - as i have zero knowledge of BIW.
    Advance Thanks
    Harini

    hi,
If u are  having experience in ABAP then BW is a good combination for u.  But BW is a vast with theory and u need real time exposure in that area.  In BW we will write ABAP coding for transformations, and routines.  In BW ABAP coding is also there but very less.  I think u can start learning BW.
First u need to start with Data Modeling ( Infocube and ODS object design)- Extraction of data from flat Interface- Extraction of Master Data, Transaction Data, Extraction of data from R/3 Systems,Process chains. Learn these areas well.
As u already into ABAP learn how to do coding for routines,Enhancements then u can manage it very well.

  • Career in ABAP - Your feedback please

    Hello All:
I have been doing VB, javascript, XML ASP and some WEb stuff from the past 6 years and now I got opportunity to work in SAP ABAP programming. I heard SAP market is always good and I already started learning ABAP and just wondering if I am taking a right decision for my career! I know my decision is going to be final but I appreciate if you can give some of your opinions! Thanks in advance.

    hi Mithun,
You're wise to "look before you leap" into ABAP right now. As I noted in a previous question, the classic role of the ABAP programmer is changing. The future SAP developer will be a hybrid of ABAP, EAI, and Web/Java-based expertise.
It's not bad to get yourself a foundation in ABAP programming, but I think you're right to ask some hard questions about how marketable ABAP skills will be down the line. The market is definitely going to get crowded for the general ABAP programmer. And you're right - automated tools like Report Painter are making it harder for the average ABAP programmer to find good projects. BW is becoming the standard reporting environment for SAP customers, and tools that automate presentation and reporting are getting more robust with each BW release. Even though there will always be the need for custom ABAP programming, object-oriented development tools like BADIs will definitely reduce the need for "grind it out" ABAP coding. For all those reasons, if I were moving into SAP development, I would pursue two different angles. First, I would try to obtain hardcore ABAP development skills (custom development, user exits, dialog programming - heavy hardcore development. Not so much using neat tools but doing the hardcore custom work that conversion and reporting tools just can't do).
Second, I would try to get development experience utilizing mySAP, EAI, and R/3 product extensions. This means mastering SAP's integration toolkit, including BAPIs, BADIs, the SAP Java Connector, and the Web Application Server (formerly the Internet Transaction Server). But I would take it further and get exposure to emerging web platforms, languages, and integration protocols including Java, J2EE, and the many flavors of XML. Exposure to competing web-based development platforms such as Microsoft's .NET solution would also give you an edge. And since you can't expect SAP's customers to rely only on SAP's EAI solutions, acquiring skills with third party EAI tools from vendors like webMethods, Tibco, and Vitria would be another key part of your skill set. In addition to all that, you want to build in as much business process and application integration know-how into your skills as you can. These "big picture" skills help to protect you against both offshore outsourcing and the competition amongst "core ABAP" programmers. Put all of these skills together, and you're truly "the ABAP programmer of the future." But at the same time, your skills will be transferable to other non-SAP environments, giving you real flexibility in the marketplace. So, the bottom line for you: yes, go into ABAP if you see a good opportunity, but continue to keep your eyes open and do your best to enhance your core ABAP know-how with all the Web-based development skills you can get your hands on.
Please Reward Points to the helpful answers and closed the thread....

    Not at all.
Head over to sap-press.com and you will find good ABAP books.Something like 'ABAP Objects' from Keller and Krüger should help to get started.

  • Career  for ABAPer

    Hi all,
I am an ABAPer with one and half year of experience.
    Worked on Reports,BADI,Enhancements,BDC,smart forms.
1)I wanted to know if its really worth to switch to Netweaver after having around one and half years of ABAP experience as in india promotions are faster and one remains technical person for around 7 years only as in case i take some netweaver component at this stage i will have to start from zero .
2)Otherwise if its really worth to switch to SD instead of netweaver(I do not have functional experience as i joined as fresher).
3)Further marketwise(Salary) is there too vast difference between an ABAPer and Netwaver technical consultant as it will again take one and half year to learn new Netweaver component and by the time i will be having 3 years of ABAP experience in case i decide to remain inABAP.
In other words which one is better option between one and half years of Netweaver experience or 3 years of ABAP experience or abap and functional exp.marketwise and careerwise.I will be really thankful if somebody can give a bit descriptive explanation in this regard.
    Thanks.

    Hi Sandeep,
You are on the right track and working with good area's of ABAP, So try to continue the same. In between try to acuire some skills in NW components like Portal, XI where they need ABAP knowledge. So by another 1.5 year you wll be come a NW Consultant. Don't think about switching to SD since you don't have any knowledge in domain.
    All the Best.

  • Career after ABAP experience

    Hi all
I have 4 years experience as SAP ABAP Technical Consultant.
Currently working with a reputed IT company.
However , in my entire sap experience, I have worked only in support projects without much of learning.
Also, I have realized that I am not very comfortable with programming stuff since I neither got complete expertise nor the interest to work on.
Can anybody suggest me a suitable profile change within SAP but with a different technology/module
that I can take up so that my 4 years experience is utilized and also I get to move in a different technology other than abap?
How about new emerging technologies in SAP - HANA , Cloud , Mobility , UX ?
Any expert suggestions if I can move to SAP audit/GRC stream from here on?

    Hi Shalini
Without you going into specifics of what type of ABAP support work you have done it is a bit difficult.
I come from a GRC/Security background and the only thing you have in common with security (and some of the GRC Access Controls) - I hope - would be knowing how to properly restrict your code with authority checks and proper DB calls via function modules/etc.
If you were to move down a GRC/Audit path, unless you have some specific audit qualification you would need to start from the beginning. Depending on the support you did for ABAP you might have a specific function module that you supported and could consider transitioning to that (possibly you employer might let you as well).
Having an ABAP background could extend towards the user interfaces and workflow. HANA is a platform (you can read up more look at free courses by searching SCN, check openSAP.com, etc). If you do not like programming, would you like technical topics? There is HANA development (and a lot of resources if you search) but I doubt you would want to do that if you don't like ABAP.
Cloud is how software is hosted/available to the client. At the end of the day it's about the applications... unless you were in a technical area responsible for the hosting, etc.
My recommendation is to think about your strengths, do a little research and find out what opportunities are within your employer. Support work is not bad (I wrote a blog recently after being fed up that people assume support work means not opportunities). However, if you do not believe you  have the experience or interest in ABAP, perhaps your employer sees that too and is therefore, reluctant to provide you with opportunities outside of support (like a project).
    Regards
    Colleen

  • Career option whether Abap or Basis

    Hi ,
I am working in a renowned Organization, nad i was trained in Basis 6 months back.
I worked on a project in Sap _ basis and Security in 3 months and its been a complete year that i am learning Basis,Now i am getting a Project in which My skill would be ABAP.
Seeking suggestions my Tl says that Abap would be agreat future.
Coming to my interest i can work in both and it will take me a months time to get into Abap.
But thinking from the career prospective Abap will ruin my entire 1 year contributed to Basis.
Please suggest from Career Prospective what should i go for?
Should i raise a Concern that my entire one year knowlwdge of Basis would not stand anywhere if i switch to Abap.
    Please suggest asap.
Edited by: ReetikaMadaan on Jan 28, 2011 11:53 AM

    Hi,
You have worked on system admin side (Worked on Basis), and t the same you trained on "Security" also. i would like to suggest continue in this and touch the "breadth" of this model. If you are interested, concentrate on mostly "security",
net weavers and portals integrations like that.
Coming to "ABAP" which is is complete programming language, where you can tight your hands with only "Programs" (Perhaps, With different logic's). But i can say strongly, its very powerful language.
    All the best.

  • Begin a SAP career starting as ABAP IV developer

    Hello,
Soon I want to start a course in ABAP IV, with the aim to get certified in the medium term. I've played some SAP, and I think it could like me  much.
Anyway, I would like to make a career in SAP world, beginning as ABAP developer as IT professional I am. But in large term, I would like to get specialized in any module. So, I would ask you if this is a real possibility, or being an ABAP developer, you get stuck the professional career as ABAP developer.
Being IT, which module can I opt for?, Only BASIS?, or also can I opt for modules like BI, FI, Sales, .. without having studied something related with management and business administration?
Regards and thanks in advance from a newbie.

    Luis,
"getting suck in the same module"....
Let me give you a parallel example, generally an actor gets similar roles based on his past (successful) performances. Breaking into different roles is difficult.
It all comes down to that particular actor - his desire, talent and hardwork.
So, there is no set answer. It all depends upon an individual and his luck.
    Good luck!

  • Connecting ABAP stack of PI 7.0 to java stack of PI 7.1.

    Hi Experts,
We have 2 PI servers. PI 7.0 & PI 7.1.
We want to connect the ABAP stack of PI 7.0 to java stack of PI 7.1 due to some urgency and problems.
What all parameters do we have to set/change. Please help
    Thanks in advance,
    ~ Suraj
    Can anyone please help?

    I guess,
Since you are using java stack of PI7.1,some of its exchange profile information might be pointing to the PI7.1 ABAP stack. So you need to change the exchange profile information accordingly(by pointing it to PI7.0 ABAP) and then restart entire sever (ABAP & JAVA stacks).
    >All the RFCs are working fine, but when we send an IDOC from the ECC system to ABAP 7.0, we are getting the following error
RFC secnarios will work, since they work on the concept of ProgramID (JCOServer) which basically registers with the sender. In case of receiver it uses the concept of JCO client for connecting.

  • ABAP General Doubt!

    Hi all!
I want to know in future abap was replacing by java then what about abap programmers i am intrested in abap than java what will happen to abapers like me  what i ve to do now.
Do i ve a good career in abap if i study abap pls give your suggestions.
Thanking you all for your replies
       Rahul.

    Hi Rahul,
Java cannot Replace ABAP at Point of time as Java is following up ABAP in SAP.
Most of the Products getting released in SAP are  based on ABAP than Java..
Java is the second best language to learn in SAP.ABAP is the Star alwayz..
Nothing can beat ABAP.Go ahead with ABAP.
    Cheers,

  • ABAP Development certification

    Hi all;
I am certified as a support consultant for incident management for SAP business all in one, but I am thinking of having a career in ABAP Development, because I am into programming more.
I have good basics in ABAP but I wanted to know how long it would take me to be an associate developer in ABAP, and what material I need to cover in order to make sure that I pass the exam with the code: C_TAW12_70
    Any advice will be great
    ~ Amal

    Hi,
See this link for all the areas you need to cover:
    http://www.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationtest.epx?context=[[C_TAW12_70|G]]|
You would have to do all of these courses, and/or gain equivalent experience. That might take 2-3 years.
The test itself is not that hard, so you might still get through after somewhat less experience. It is a multiple choice exam.
    cheers & good luck!

  • Use of ABAP Stack

Can you please let me know what is ABAP Stack

    Fundamentals
    Summary
A comprehensive integration and application platform, SAP NetWeaver™ heralds a new approach to IT development and applications. It brings together the disparate worlds of packaged applications and custom development in a single ecosystem, in which enterprise applications as we know them become the building blocks of a new generation of service-oriented applications.
Custom development with SAP NetWeaver™ is about the very latest in application development practices. Efficiency and flexibility are the watchwords. Application development is based on the model-driven paradigm – as little coding as possible, paired with maximum application robustness and flexibility with regard to front-ends. It is about visual, pattern-based programming that still offers complete control for the power developer.
    By SAP AG
    23 May 2007
    Architectural Background
SAP NetWeaver is based on a dual-stack architecture based on ABAP and Java. While ABAP has been with SAP for years and provides a robust and scalable development and runtime environment for any type of business programming, Java is based on open standards and leverages SAP NetWeaver to the broad community of Java developers. In a service-oriented environment, however, the programming language boundaries disappear, since components written in one language (for example, ABAP) can expose their capabilities as services that are consumed by components written in another language (for example, Java). The interoperability is achieved through Web services standards that have been implemented for both stacks. Likewise, SAP’s user interface strategy is built on top of the Web Dynpro programming model that is supported seamlessly both in the Java and in the ABAP space.
The question of which environment you should use when depends on a couple of criteria that have to be weighed up carefully.
ABAP’s strength lies in its proven application server architecture. The language is based on a strong integration of OPEN SQL and manages large data sets known as internal tables. This allows use of ABAP in transaction-oriented environments with good performance. The development environment (ABAP Workbench) is tightly integrated in the application server. Since ABAP is essentially a server-based development infrastructure, work in large development teams is organized by means of the correction and transport system in a distributed development landscape. ABAP supports a variety of data types that are optimized for business processes. Many important engines of SAP NetWeaver such as the BI OLAP engine or the XI integration engine are implemented in ABAP.
Java focuses more on the user interface side although more and more applications make use of the entire Java stack from user interface through business logic to persistence. Many of the ABAP scalability features have been adapted for the Java stack, such as the proven scalability using a J2EE dispatcher and J2EE server nodes (that correspond to the ABAP dispatcher and work processes). The NetWeaver Development Infrastructure organizes distributed development in teams by means of a central repository and build and transportation services similar in philosophy to ABAP’s change and transport system. However, there are subtle differences that have to be taken into account. Java development is carried out on the client side in the NetWeaver Developer Studio. A local J2EE engine makes it easy for Java developers to work offline and later integrate their work in a central test system. Sources are checked out locally so that you only need to connect from time to time to the development infrastructure. SAP has implemented a lot of SAP NetWeaver components in Java, such as the J2EE server itself, the Portal, and the Developer Studio to name just a few.
ABAP and Java are code-based environments. Although they offer model-driven and highly-graphical tools such as the Web Dynpro View Designer or the Web Dynpro Data Modeler you end up in editor and debugger sessions, since most of the developer’s work has to be done here.
Finally, it is important to note that SAP NetWeaver is in transition from an integration platform to a composition and business process platform.
Composite applications can be developed on top of SAP NetWeaver and are supported by the composite application framework (CAF) and Guided Procedures.
Both technologies accelerate composition on top of SAP NetWeaver, but are integrated in the Developer Studio and leverage existing technologies such as Web Dynpro and Adobe Forms integration.
    Regards
    Ben
