Restarting Coldfusion Server

Hi All,
Is there anyway we can restart the coldfusion server through any code or Admin API?
We are having coldfusion MX 7. We do not have access to to the server for restarting. Every time we need to wait for the Administrator to restart it.
I want to know is there any Admin API which we can use to restart the server?
Thanks in advance for your help..:)

Have you looked at the docs? Only relevant one is serverinstance.cfc - "Start, stop, and restart JRun servers. This CFC only works when running the multiserver configuration"
Generally a website wouldn't have permissions to restart a Windows service, so no.

  • Restart CF server through any API?

    Hi All,
Is there anyway we can restart the coldfusion server through any code or API?
We are having coldfusion MX 7. We do not have access to to the server for restarting. Every time we need to wait for the Administrator to restart it.
Thanks in advance for your help..:)

This is not an easy question to answer. I will say this. I don’t think there is an Admin API method to stop CF, and even if there was, it could not “start” it (because CF would now be down). So how you deal with this depends as much on how CF is running and on what OS. If this is production, most people on Windows run CF as a service.  If on *nix, most run it as a daemon (though I will admit I am far less familiar with that.)
As for running CF as a Windows service, one could argue that you could/would/should restart the Windows service itself. In that case, you could look into any Windows-based way to stop (and/or restart) the service, such as the command line tool, NET STOP servicename and NET START servicename.  You could put those in a batch file, of course.
Another thing to note, though, is that if there were a way to somehow kill CF from within CF itself (whether a documented or undocumented way), there is still that need to start it again. CF won’t know, if you “kill” it, that it should start itself again, whether as a service or daemon.
But note that at least with the Windows Service, there is in fact a mechanism in place (a shadow service watching it, the jrunsvc.exe process that you always see running) that will in fact watch the CF service (the jrun.exe process) and if it sees it stop, that will restart the service.
Hope that helps some, while you await ideas from others.

  • Coldfusion server monitor in Japanese: how change language?

    Hi,
I have a coldfusion 10 developer edition installed.
In my admin panel I have english language. But my server monitor is in Japanese. I don't know why.
How can I change the language of the monitor?

    Hi Giovanni,
There are two ways to change it back to English on server level:-
    1) Check your server locale and change it to anything but japanese.
    2) Take a backup and rename smresource_en.xml to smresource_jp.xml in CFIDE\administrator\monitor. Restart ColdFusion.

  • Coldfusion Server constant slowdown...

Hi there, very new to this so I don't really know what to look for unfortunately...
We are running CF 8 on Windows 2003 server, standard edition and every day, up to 7-10 times per day it stops responding and the application server has to be restarted through Windows 'Services'.
This happens repeatedly every day with no rhyme or reason and no discernible pattern that we have been able to find.  It gets to the point where the simplest possible script won't even run.  Anyone ever come across this problem??  After restarting ColdFusion Application Server, a script that was timing out will run in 1 or 2 seconds as is the norm.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    We are running:
    Windows server 2003, standard, SP2
    2Ghz processor
    4GB ram
    CF 8,0,1,195765 Enterprise
    JVM: Sun version 1.6.0_04
    Cheers

Find the memory leak and|or hanging threads in your code that is filling up the servers memory until it can no longer respond to any future request.
There maybe other issues, but your code is the number one likely culprit and until it is iliminated by real anaylsis it is what I am going to suggest.
There are some tools that can help you identify the resource hogs.
    SeeFusion: http://www.seefusion.com/
    FusionReactor: http://www.fusion-reactor.com/fr/
If you can run your code on a development version of ColdFusion that gives you access to the Enterprise edition server monitor, ColdFusion has some built in tools as well.

  • Nodemanager does not restart managed server after Linux OS reboot

Running Linux 2.6.18, Sun JDK 1.6.0_14, and WebLogic 10.3, we have a correctly functioning nodemanager watching a single managed server. If I kill -9 the managed server, the nodemanager fires up a new one immediately. If, however, we reboot the box, the nodemanager will start cleanly and will not start the managed server. It appears to believe the node should remain down and reports its status as UNKNOWN.
I've seen where this is a known problem on Windows boxes, easily gotten around by supplying the -Xrs parameter to the startup parms for the managed server. (Section 5 of the general nodemanager config doc.) I don't see, however, where there's an equally clean solution for Linux.
    Things I've tried:
+ When I set the server to DEBUG, it shows zero sign of receiving a shutdown signal. It's dumping loads of cluster messages, etc, into the log and then suddenly the log just ends so it's dying via kill -9. If the nodemanager is still running at that time, it might try to restart the managed server and log it somewhere as permanently failed.
+ The nodemanager only logs to INFO level, and logs no evidence of deciding to leave the node down. (DEBUG is an invalid LogLevel, so that's all I've got.)
+ A restart signal sent from our AdminServer (on another Linux box) successfully starts the managed node through the nodemanager. Nothing unusual occurs or is logged.
    Things I'm curious about:
+ Is there some way to see in what state the nodemanager believes the managed server to be?
+ Is there some value in some doc somewhere that might say the server should not be restarted?
+ Is there not a log of NodeManager client actions? I don't see anything in domain.log or AdminServer.log except when the NM is down.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

can you set NativeVersionEnabled to true. We have faced this in windows which was fixed by changing this property. Some notes from that issue:
Faced this interesting issue in Windows 2008 environment. Managed Servers were started by node manager and it was expected that on a system restart after a crash, the node manager will restore the state of the managed servers to the state it was before the crash. Node Manger was configured to run as a windows service. Hence it started after the server restart. But the individual managed servers were not getting started. Interestingly, for the managed servers started by the node manager there were no <Managed_Server_Name>.lck file in the <Server>/data/NodeManger folder.
To fix this always set the following properties in the nodemanager.properties on the node maager home directory.
CrashRecoveryEnabled=true /* This by default is set to false. This needs to be turned for auto restart after crash to work */
NativeVersionEnabled=true /* This is by default set to true and it should be set as such. If you turn this off on platforms for which weblogic provide native JNI libraries ( e.g. as in Windows 2008) then this wont create the .lck file and hence node manager wont restart the managed server after the crash.
Note: As per official documentation .lck files are required for weblogic node managers to do auto restart after system crash
    From Official documentation:
After the system is restarted, Node Manager checks each managed domain specified in the nodemanager.domains file to determine if there are any server instances that were not cleanly shutdown. This is determined by the presence of any lock files which are created by Node Manager when a WebLogic Server process is created. This lock file contains the process identifier for WebLogic Server startup script. If the lock file exists, but the process ID is not running, Node Manager will attempt to automatically restart the server.
If the process is running, Node Manager performs an additional check to access the management servlet running in the process to verify that the process corresponding to the process ID is a WebLogic Server instance.

  • Site does not load after some minutes of creation or after restart the server

    Hello,
I have been asked to create a test enviroment identical to the production enviroment. So, what I did was:
Backed up the production web application's content database: Prod_WSS_ContentDB
Created new test servers (domain controller, sql server and sharepoint 2013 server) in a new, completely isolated, network environment, without any connection with the production environment (specifically Azure)
Created a new web application in test environment with a new content database.
Dismounted the new content database with powershell: Dismount-spcontentdatabase Test_WSS_Content
Copy the Prod_WSS_ContentDB database to the test sql server and restored it with Management Studio.
Mount the Prod_WSS_ContentDB databe to the web application with powershell:
    Mount-spcontentdatabse Prod_WSS_ContentDB -WebApplication http://testsp/
Then, when I type http://testsp in the browser it redirects me to http://testsp/SitePages/Home.aspx
and the site loads exactly as the production environment.
But, after some minutes, or if I restart the Sharepoint Server, when I navigate to
    http://sitesp I am redirected to http://testsp/SitePages/Home.aspx
as expected, but the site does not load, the browser just show a complety blank page.
The Central Administration site loads normally.
Trying to fix it I found that if I dismount the content database Prod_WSS_ContentDB, then mount the test database Test_WSS_Content,
then navigate to the site, dismount Test_WSS_Content and finally mount again Prod_WSS_ContentDB, the site loads normally, no blank page, but after some minutes or if I restart the same happens again.

  • How to create a Flex3 project with remote ColdFusion server?

I have a question related to Flex 3 and ColdFusion that it might be simple to answer but I have been struggling with it for a while.
How to create a Flex application using Flex Builder 3 that uses ColdFusion, but the ColdFusion server is not installed locally but in a remote server?
I need to create a Flex application to use with ColdFusion and although this is a simple procedure when we are creating the project in a computer where you have ColdFusion installed locally (as all books shows examples of it), but what if the ColdFusion server is installed in another machine in the network?
My current situation is the following:
    -          I have Flex Builder 3 install in my PC at work and its workspace is in a folder in the network outside of my PC.
    -          We have a server (ISWEB1) partition in two drives; C, where the ColdFusion 8 is installed and D where all the files the developers work with reside. The ColdFusion installation runs in a server where IIS is used as the web server.
    -          I have the drive D on the server ISWEB1 mapped to one of my letter drives and can access it easily
    -          The drive C on the Server can only be accessed remotely (or through the web to access the ColdFusion admin page) and is not exposed to the network as drive D is.
My problem is, I need to create a Flex 3 application that uses ColdFusion using remote object access service (CF Flash Remoting) but I wanted to point to the installation version on the server ISWEB1 and not to the one installed locally. The Configure ColdFusion Server screen in the Flex Builder asked me for the location of ColdFusion root folder, Web root, and root URL. There is no way I can point to the server (ISWEB1)where ColdFusion is installed as those fields seem to required a address that points to a local install or a mapping on that local server.
The work around that could be used is to use the ColdFusion developers edition I have installed locally and use during the creation of the project in Flex Builder, but then I would have to have all the same data sources, mappings, and CFCs in my the local server in order to test, which seems double work. To aggravate that when you try to test the application Flex writes the files to the local server and unless you have everything available locally it would not work properly. I am trying to avoid duplicating the work. Ideally I would like to test the Flex application on the server where the CF is installed and where the Flex Builder workspace is.

Sort of. I found this article below that helped me to connect to the remote CF server using MXML. It seems that you have to create a regular project in Flex with Aplication Server Type set to None and connect to CF using the endpoint attribute of the RemoteObject MXML tag or via AS.
    http://www.aliaspooryorik.com/blog/index.cfm/e/posts.details/post/200
However I found out after getting error using the AS3 code to use the endpoint property that
mx.rpc.remoting.RemoteObject does not support  the "endpoint" property
whereas mx.rpc.remoting.mxml.RemoteObject does. See link below
    http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg101439.html//www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg101439.html
So I had to change my AS3 code by adding a new channel to my RemoteObject using a code similar to the one on the link below (Note that this code uses PHP, when I instantiate myRemoteObject, I do so informing that the destination is "ColdFusion" [new RemoteObject("ColdFusion")], so no need to set destination as in the code on the link below
    http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/message/120115
    I hope that helps you.

  • Why do I need to stop and restart web server?????

I am developing servlets on sun's standard web server as well as with Netscape's web server.
The problem is every time I make any changes to servlet and recompile my code, changes are not visible until I stop and restart web server. I guess web server uses cached version of servlet.
Can any body help me to solve this problem? It is matter of some setting issues in web server. But since I am novice, I don't know.........

Some app servers have a "reloadable" attribute that can automatically detect changes in your servlet and reload your application for you. Not sure if all do though... but check through the docs on your app server and see if there's something similar. If not, you're probably stuck manually restarting.

  • ColdFusion server script in multiple browser tabs

When I run the ColdFusion server example in multiple browsers I am unable to grab sessions in each tab other then the first.  See screen shot for error message.  However if I disable cookies then I can run as many tabs as I want.  Can anyone tell me if there is a work around for this?  It has to do with the http call that is made in account manager initializes.  In all other tabs except the first one when the http call is made it returns with an unexpected result, with the tag "meeting-info" in the result.
    Any help is appreciated.
    -chris

I have just tried and I am not seeing the problem you are having.
Anyway, the symptoms you are describing let me think you are doing something with session cookies.
Any web application that uses session cookies would show those "symptoms": you login to FaceBook,GMail,YahooMail, etc. from one browser and then open another tab or window and access the same site you'll see you are automatically "already logged in" as the original users.
Call this a bug or a feature, but this is how browsers works. This still doesn't explain how you are having a problem with server-side calls when you open multiple tabs, unless you are storing the accountManager object in the session (that is ok, if you want to save on server-to-server calls).
But even if that is what you are doing, I still don't understand what your real problem is. Assuming you are trying to run multiple rooms under the same account, the first request to the AFCS server will ask to authenticate and all the others will be already authenticated. And this is working as expected.

    Hi ,
I have successfully configured log4j in my weblogic server 8.1.
Everytime i made a change in log4j.xml i need to restart the server
is there any configuration or parameter to set without restarting server??
    Thanks in advance,

I don't think you need to restart the server, atleast I never needed to when making changes to jsp pages. You only need to restart when you make changes to java classes. Some might argue jsp is converted to servlet which is a java class.....
Try refreshing the page when you make any changes. This works for me, if it doesn't work try turning reloadable="true" in your context path in tomcat's server.xml
