Restarting DBUA after it failed once

I   am trying to upgrade oracle from 10G to 11G R2 for SAP ECC with DBUA and it failed with error below after 11% completed
ORA-00119 invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name LISTENER_S2D
I tried with ignoring this message, it ended up with error ORA-01034 - oracle not available, finally DBUA terminated .
When I tried to rerun DBUA , I am getting   following message:
"All components of the selected database have been already been upgraded, select another databse to perform upgrade"
Please let me know how I can restart the DBUA
Please help

Hello Abu,
Please let me know how I can restart the DBUA
Well .. restore and recover your old database database is the only solution, if an interuption occured in the upgrade process.
Then you can try it again with DBUA. You can also try to continue by performing a manual upgrade (and not through DBUA) - but in this case you need to know what to do.
ORA-00119 invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name LISTENER_S2D
I tried with ignoring this message
Bad idea ... you have defined a SQL*Net name with init parameter LOCAL_LISTENER, which is used to register the database at the defined listener. Oracle can not resolve that name to a hostname/port/service and so your database will not start .. that's the reason why you get an ORA-01034 afterwards.

  • Mail crashes every time it opens - after large send failed once

Issue: Mail crashes every time it opens. Problem started after a failed send on an e-mail with multiple photos attached. Can't see anything in outbox to delete.
Background: Family member initiated mail of several large photos from within iPhoto. Mail tried to send through Google mail and received error return that file was too large. Now every time Mail client opens - it crashes. Can't find anything in Outbox to delete. Tried deleting the Google Mail account and then reinstalling it. Still crashes.
System: A clean iMac - only a few months old with all updates on OS current. No 3rd party software or anything tricky.
Question: What to do next? Is there a place to look and delete this hung outbound e-mail at the system level - since don't see it in outbox. Should I move next to delete the Mail application and reinstall it? If so, is there another file to delete that might be holding this hung file or status?
    Thanks

Hi usaf890, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this for safety...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Then I'd backup your whole Mail folder, by right clicking on it in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place... only the plist is separate.
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
    Move to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
If you wish to try the file angle, look in the finder for...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/type&name of [email protected]/Sent Messages.mbox/Messages/
    then files like...
    7404.emlx
Size or date may be a clue.

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

    Hi
how to Configurr Time machine to Restore after a failer ? should i just set the time machine to backup to the external hard disk that have the backup and it will automatically detect it and can use it ? what if there is another backups for another Mac's ?

Do you mean you want to recover your entire system from your TM backups? If so, see item 14 in +Frequently Asked Questions+ at the top of this forum for details.
Or do you mean, once your Mac is recovered, how to start new TM backups?
When you first boot after restoring, you may want to immediately turn Time Machine off, as it's next backup will probably be a full one -- everything it just restored will be backed-up again. You cannot prevent this, only delay it. It will of course take quite a while, and a lot of space on your TM disk, so you may wish to wait until you're sure your system is the way you want it, or even erase your TM disk with Disk Utility and let your backups start anew.
what if there is another backups for another Mac's ?
That may become a problem. TM knows which backups are for which Mac, and will not mix them. But if there's not room for the first backup of the restored Mac (see above), you have two bad choices: erase the disk, and start both Macs over again with TM; or delete all the backups for the failed Mac via the TM interface (see item 12 of the same article).
If you decide to erase the disk completely, you may want to partition it before beginning backups, so each Mac's backups have their own, exclusive partition, to prevent this hassle in the future. See item 5 for instructions if you want to do this.

You cannot download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.

  • When i try to restart firefox after i have closed it i get a message that firefox is still running Have to restart pc most of the time. Is a big wast of time.So have been using internet explorer most of the time

I must close firefox to run a program called c cleaner to remove unused items the browser saves on the computer . In order to clean up items on firefox i must shut firefox down then have the problem when i try to restart firefox after the the unused items are removed as the pc thinks firefox is still running. Have to reboot to start firefox. Other browsers are normal with no problems

I have sometimes seen Firefox give such a message, and do not know the reason for this. As you mention Internet Explorer I assume you are using a Windows machine.
Try using task manager to stop the firefox program.
Shortcut keys [Ctrl][alt][del] in XP, all pressed together will get task manager.
Another method is in Start -> Run keying in the command "Taskmgr" and hit Return
Once TaskManager is showing click the process tab and look for "firefox.exe", right click on it and use "end process" that should stop Firefox without you needing to restart the computer.
I am not sure why you need to use'' "c cleaner to remove unused items the browser saves on the computer "''
Tools -> clear recent history, may help

This issue has been lifted up, as there have been other reports of the Droid X powering up on its own after being turned off.  Our product team is working to resolve this; however, there is no date on a software resolution yet.  Once a software update becomes available, it will be pushed through your phone.

    Dear Leslie J.,
Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud and iMessage on an iPad mini named “Leslie Joye's iPad”.
If you have not recently set up an iPad with your Apple ID, then you should change your Apple ID password. Learn more.

    1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
    2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.
    Is your iPad working?

  • SSRS 2008 R2 Services not restarting automatically after reboot

SSRS 2008 R2  Reporting instance not restarting automatically after patches install.  Is there a way to resolve the issue
    Windows 2008 R2 Server
    16 GB RAM

    Hi,
Follow this article to resolve the issue:
Reporting Services service doesn't start after the installation of MS12-070 security patch
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariae/archive/2012/11/12/reporting-services-service-doesn-t-start-after-the-installation-of-ms12-070-security-patch.aspx
    Workaround 1:
Modify the registry to increase the default time-out value for the service control manager. To increase this value to 60 seconds, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.
    3.  In the right pane, locate the ServicesPipeTimeout entry.
Note If the ServicesPipeTimeout entry does not exist, you must créate it. To do this, follow these steps:
a.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
b.Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
c.Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
d.Click Decimal, type 60000, and then click OK.
This value represents the time in milliseconds before
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Check that SSRS services can be started now.
You cannot start SQL Server Reporting Services after you apply the update that is discussed in KB 2677070

What Apple store told you they wanted $249.00 to tell what is wrong?
If this is a 13" Macbook Pro then that is the cost of the Extended Applecare warranty. As you are outside the 90 days of Free Phone Support then what Apple told you is that to get Phone Support you would either need to pay $45 per phone call or pay $249.00 for the Applecare extended warranty which comes with 3 years Free Phone Support from date of purchase.
Or you can take it to a Apple Genius Bar and have them look at it for Free.
Every Mac comes with 1 year warranty and includes only 90 days of phone support. You can buy the extended Applecare warranty anytime within the first year of ownership, IE until the 1 year warranty runs out.
I suggest you have your computer looked at by either an Apple Authorized Repair Center or Genius Bar and then before the 1 year warranty runs out buying the extended warranty

You say you cannot boot normally.  It shows a gray screen with the Apple logo.
Did you say it will boot successfully in Safe Mode (boot, then hold down the Shift key)?
How did you boot the machine to run Disk Utility?  (Which keyboard combinations)?

I've had this problem on my Windows XP for years. it's been around, unsolved, or no solutions in these forums.
It keeps reminding me why Apple will never be the primary office computer company. Anyone running a business cannot have software running that will not behave, won't shut down, or behaves without any explanation, and this problem has no explanation, or solution that I can find except to use task manager to kill the process and only use iTunes when I'm expecting to shut down or kill the process.
