Restarting in OS 9 to use Epson C86 printer with OS 9 applications

I've installed the software for the Epson C86 printer on my iMac (Panther, OS 10.3) and I want to use the printer with applications running in the Classic Environment. I've got the OS 9 System Folder installed. The printer instructions say to restart the iMac in OS 9 and choose the C86 icon in the Chooser.
When I'm running in the Classic environment, the C86 icon does not appear in the OS 9 Chooser, and OS 9 does not appear in the Startup Pane of System Preferences. When I restart holding down the option key, only the OS X icon appears.
How do I start up in OS 9--and more importantly, how do I use the Epson C86 on this machine with OS 9 applications?
Thanks for any enlightenment you can offer!

Thanks for your response. (This is electric-hair with a new ID--consider this item marked "resolved"!) I downloaded the updated driver for the C86 from the Epson website instead of using the CD that came with the printer and everything worked automatically, just fine.
Is it always better to download and use the software from a company's website for a peripheral than to use the software on the CD that comes with? Simply because of updates...or is there another reason?

You cannot start up in OS 9. The last mac that could boot into 9 rolled off the assembly line several years ago. However, you may be able to print from Classic by installing the OS 9 driver for your printer into Classic, the same way you would install it into a bootable system.

  • Using Epson DX6000 printer with leopard and timecapsule

I can print fine when i plug in the printer direct to the macbook, but not when connecting the printer direct to the timecapsule. Macbook sees it ok, and says it's printed to it but nothing happens. Tried reinstalling drivers' deleting preferences etc but no good. And like i said works fine when connected directly.
    Can anyone please advise?

That was my experience as well - the key was getting rid of the old driver.
Finally figured it out after spending literally days on this problem.
    Read this post first:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5862672
The key for me was to totally get rid of the old epson driver. I had the Epson Stylus Photo R2400 - GutenPrint v5.1.3 driver. It produced horrible washed out results. Photoshop could see the printer, and actually printed images, but they looked washed out. After replacing all the inks, and running numerous test prints - after switching it to my windows machine and back, I finally got it working. Follow the instructions on the post listed above. The part where they have you "repair permissions" did not complete for me. Something happened and the process just aborted. Why that happened I do not know. Once the old drivers were off, I went into system preferences/print & fax. I plugged the printer back in. I added it with the newly downloaded and installed driver from Epson. When I could select which driver to use I DID NOT USE the GutenPrint driver. This time I was prompted to use an Epson SP R2400 driver. I printed a test page - all looked ok. I fired up Photoshop, and voila - my gorgeous prints on my fantastic Epson R2400 are back. Man I was a real unhappy camper for the past 7 days. So I am back in business.
Good luck - hope it helps.

  • I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

you can't unless it's an AirPrint enabled printer or you purchase a 3rd party app like printopia.

Just upgraded my 2009 iMac (3.06 Ghz, core 2 duo $GB 1067 Mhz DDR3) to Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Printer says the software was improperly installed. Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks or do I need to go back to Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard?

It's not clear whether your printer is included in the Apple list - there is an Officejet 6100 and a couple of other types. Go to the page linked to above and use the browser search for 6100.
I'm afraid HP are notorious for not supporting older printers - I had the same problem. Probably they hope you will buy another printer (I did, but it was a Canon). I did look on HP's site and couldn't see a driver - you could give it a try (make sure you have the exactly correct printer name):
    http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=HP6100&search_search type=s-002
Alternatively ou could try Gutenprint (open source software):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
I found it would indeed drive the printer, but the colour dithering wasn't very satisfactory and the duplex printing bolt-on wouldn't work. However as Gutenprint is free it's worth trying to see if it's any good for you.

  • Unable to print from a Mac using Maverick 10.9.2 on an Epson Photo printer with Photoshop CS4. Can you help?

I am trying to print in Photoshop CS4 on an Epson Photo printer (3880) from my Mac. I just upgraded to Maverick 10.9.2 when the problem started. Can you help.

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.
    I hope this helps.

  • Don't know how to use the air print with my ipads.

i just bought an mg3222 printer and i don't know how to figure out how to use air print with my ipad and ipad minis. Can anybody help??? Thanks

    Hello.
In order to use the printer with your iOS devices, please make sure that the units are all connected to the same WI-Fi router.  Once this has been done you should be able to print.
The initial Wi-Fi setup of the MG3222 would have to be done from a compatible Windows or Mac OSX computer.
If additional assistance is needed, feel free to call us at 1-800-OKCANON.

  • Print Setup says use Adobe Color Printer with No Color Management even though I have my .icc printer profile selected

I have a ColorMunki Photo and a Canon Pixma Pro 100 that I have been using on my Mac with Photoshop CC.  No issues.  I must have changed something because now when I go to print, a popup says "Please use Adobe Color Printer Utility if you need to print with No Color Management".  It is telling me that my I am trying to print without color management and this method of printing isn't supported.  So, I reprofiled my monitor and printer and have brand new .icc profiles and it is still doing the same thing.  Can someone tell me the exact things that need to be changed in Photoshop in order to use my .icc profile for color managed printing?  I have no idea what I have changed.  If I change to a different profile that message doesn't pop up.  My document profile says that it is the same as the printer profile I am trying to print from.  Does the document profile need to be set to my monitor .icc profile or the printer .icc profile that I want to print from?  Any help would be appreciated!  It is driving me crazy!

  • Using Epson Workforce 40 with Snow Leopard and an AirPort Extreme

Hi. Long night working on this but I figured something out, that might help others out there in the same/similar situation.
I have an Epson Workforce 40, and an AirPort Extreme. I had previously set up the EPWF40 (Epson WorkForce 40) before I had installed Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, the printer would not work and would not be recognized by my MBP 15". The document would just hang and I would have to force quit the printer or delete the document.
Bullet points on how I made it work:
    - the most important thing is to have the printer recognized by the router and have an IP address installed and registered first, then you can install the Epson Mac EasyPrint software and "find" the printer over your wireless network
    - Goto:
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=108743&prodoid=6307 5463&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh&x=28&y=3
and download the Epson EasyPrint v3.10 file called: "epson12433.dmg"
    - Unfortunately, Epson does not make software to "install" the printer to the router for Snow Leopard
    - I re-installed the printer to the router using my wife's HP laptop and the original CD that came with the EPWF40.
    - Follow the instructions on the CD for the install for "First Time" setting up the printer.
    - After following the original instructions from the CD on her PC, the router assigned a new IP address to the printer, and the printer was "connected" to the router wirelessly
    - Then, on my MBP running Snow Leopard, I ran the dmg file downloaded earlier from the Epson website.
    - After running, go to the printer/fax preferences, click the "+" sign and add a new printer.
    - As long as you are connected wirelessly to the router, under default, your mac should "find" the Epson printer. It is called something like "EPSON5A2EAA". There should be at least one, if not two options.
    - One of the options should be "EPSON5A2EAA Bonjour" and the other "EPSON5A2EAA IP". Click on one, install it, and then go back and click on the other and install it (just to be sure).
    - You will not be able to use the standalone Epson Apps installed from the DMG, however, the printer preferences for the epson, will be available through the printer preference boxes when you go through the system preferences.
It didn't make any sense at first for me either. Once I understood that:
    - you can't install the printer from a Mac to your router
    - after the printer is installed and linked with your router, your Mac can find it and use it
...I was able to complete the installation and have a fully functional wireless network printer.
Feel free to drop me a question. I'm just glad I was able to make it work.

I installed Snow Leopard but my Epson WorkForce 500 printer is not compatible. I saw an article about loading Rosetta and this would solve the problem. I can't find the article and I have never used Rosetta.
    Actually, you have.
Rosetta was incorporated into both Tiger and Leopard. But it was invisible, of course. Snow Leopard is the first OS that offers the choice of whether to install it or not.
Any suggestions on how I find the recent article or make my printer work with Snow Leopard?
Don't know about the "recent article", but you can install Rosetta by inserting your Snow Leopard DVD and clicking on the Optional Installs package. When the configuration choice window comes up, just check Rosetta alone and carry on.
    Good luck with it!

  • Can't I use my Epson 860 printer with 10.4.7 ??

  • Using Epson Perfection 2480 with Tiger and USB 2.0 Macs

Actually I couldn't reply to an older post, since it was archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=959762
So I tought to simply drop some info here about a few findings I had in the last few minutes.
Downloading and installing driver version 2.65 cured this (avoid the newer 2.77 driver; Epson says 2.65 is for OS9, but I have it here running on a Intel Mac). This will install the Epson Monitor software. Now that's a first trick: make sure all accounts in the computer have that on the login items for that account, that has to start as soon as the computer starts. Install the older Epson software even if you plan to use your scanner with Vuescan or Image Capture, for example.
After that, I still had the same problem here, but it was only on the machine with USB 2.0.
Switching the scanner to the keyboard USB plug (1.1) solved the problem. Maybe an older hub could do the trick if you have, let's say, a wireless keyboard.
    Good luck,
    Gui

  • I am using epson 3800 printer

I am unable to print anything larger then a 5x7 print regardless of the setting that I use in lightroom 4 can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong, or how to print a image that is 11x14. ??????

I also have an Epson 3800 and have no problem printing on any size paper I can fit in it.  It is hard to tell where the problem is based on your minimal description but, you may have the 5x7 paper size selected in print section of LR or your printer driver may have that paper size selected.  To check the printer driver settings, click on "Page Setup" in the print module and drill down into the printer properites.  What is your paper source set to?

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
If paper type is available it is in the printer specific options on the second print window - select the photo(s) you want to print, click print, select the printer, paper size and print size and click print - in the resulting window any available printer specific options will be in the pull down line toward the bottom of the window - if they are not click on the gray triangle to the right of the printer name to open the full window -- note that the available printer specific options are controlled by the printer driver - not iPhoto
