Restarting of my n96

my n96 used to go off and demand for a manual switching on.but after updating it to v30.00033 it does the same but now restarting by itself

Restarts are quite often caused by loose or faulty sim. Try reseating your sim or alternatively you could also try another sim.

  • N96 V 30.0.33 Unstable,frequent restarts, lock ups...

    Hi all.
Upgraded my firmware using FOTA the day the V30 firmware was released.
Ever since though I have had major issues with my N96. The previous version 20 and version 12 were stable enough and I had minimal issues with them. I have not installed any new apps or software between version 20 and version 30.
Constant random reboots, even when not actually doing anything with the phone. Its just sat on the desk in standby and ... boom restart. Happening at least 4 - 5 times per day. Maybe more.
Phone locking up when navigating menus or attempting to switch between open apps. Resulting in battery off and back in to restart.
SMS received, phone locked up. Battery off reboot. All sms in inbox deleted!
Messaging app locking up on a regular basis, regardless of memory selected.
Battery life appears to have deteriorated. Having to charge morning and night to ensure phone not dead overnight. Once a day on version 20 firmware.
Would be interesting to know if anybody else is having any or similar issues or knows of a fix etc.
Looking at reverting to previous version 20 firmware. If anybody knows how to do this using Vista, then please let me know. I understand its only possible using XP ... Hope this is not the case.

    Hi everybody,
I have right the same problem. V30.033 - frequent unexpected reset.
I got installed the version 30.033 from a Nokia care center, and since then the phone restarts randomly  and frequently: when I use the phone, the GPS, the Media Player, or even in stand-by.
I tried everything was suggested in this forum: factory setting, hard reset, deletion of configurations.
I have no external memory card installed.
Nothing works; the phone keeps restarting randomly.
I purchased this phone in October 08 from an operator, and it came with version 10.x. Very poor performance, but the N96 was very stable.
I tried the software update and the update over the air, but no update was possible. I could therefore not experience the version 12 and 20.
To get the phone updated I had to contact the Nokia care center.
Now after firmware update, because any attempt to recover from frequent resets fails, I suspect the reason might be a conflict with some parameters stored somewhere in the phone, and belonging to the operator who sold the phone.
My operator suggests sending him back the phone so that they can reprogram it.
I am reluctant in doing this because they are still on 10.x firmware version.
Maybe Nokia software people might want to check if the V30.033 has something new on it, which might conflict with programming specific to an operator.

  • My N96 restarts automatically

I bought a brand new Nokia N96 few weeks ago, but my handset restarts automatically, i want to know what could be the problem! the software version of my phone is version 30.******. I can't use it properly! I waste money and i am not satisfied with it!

Random restarts are not symptomatic of an N96 running v30
    Suggestions
    1) Pull any memory card you may have inserted, does the problem still occur with no memory card in the phone
    2) have you installed any apps to the c drive, perhaps moving some to the e may help, perhaps an unstable app is causing your problem
    3) Have you tried a hard reset
Also is your phone a branded model (Voda ???)

  • N96 fails to restart after software update

    Hello,
If just hat my N96 software updated and now he resist to restart, he doesn't give any signal at all just "Phone start-up failed.Contact the retailer". What's wrong with it? My N96 has never worked properly, my N95 was better but also not that good as I asspected.

    Hi troy1011
It might be worth looking at Paragraph 45 in FAQ for Nokia Software Updater here for using "Three finger reset" although it may be worth leaving battery out for 10 minutes first:http://europe.nokia.com/A4577229#faq45
Failing that it's a trip to a Nokia Care Point unfortunately.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • N96 restarts, hangs and crashes. Not seeing USB

Hi, I got an N96 two months ago, it worked great, no problems, until about a week ago.
One night I wasn't able to charge the phone because I wasn't home. The phone was dying, so I put it off. The next morning, I plug it in and it barely resopnded. At first it would show the white screen for a second before dying again. I left it plugged for a few hours assuming the battery was really flat. It never came on, or charged.
The next day I took it to a Nokia Store, assuming it was the battery. The customer care staff refused to replace it, saying that it was just flat, and worked in another phone. I found this odd, but took it back home, where it was suddenly working.
Problem is, since then, the phone randomly dies. If i place it on the table, chances are it would go off. This was immensely irritating, and I had to start handling it like an egg. After a few days, these subsided. This morning, however, I tried to plug the USB into my pc, and it wouldn't respond.
A couple of seconds later it died. Every attempt to put it back on afterwards resulted in the phone coming on, hanging for some seconds, then going off aagain. I plugged into the charger, and it came on... but then it would go off again and restart.
I eventually solved this by removing the sim card, hoping to back up my data and reset the phone. Problem is, now I can't still get the phone or the pc to realise the USB cable is connected.
What's going on. What do I do?

It sounds like the phone is damaged, and the nokia shop should repair the handset (you get a 6month warranty for the battery!).
If the usb is the only problem, you can attempt to back up the phone memory content to a memory card, this wont allow you to backup the mass memory (you wil either need to get bluetoth or usb to work for that).
IF you have a micro sd memory card, place it into the handset and open up the file manager application, slect backup and backup your phones content.
Any applications you have installed to the mass memory will have to be backed up another way, you can transfer the content to the memory card, but it really depends on the capacity of the memory card and how much data is in the mass memory.
Once you have done this, you should be safe to say that you can wipe the handset or give it to nokia to tinker with. I doubt wiping the handset wil solve the problem as it sounds quite severe - moan at nokia and im sure they wil fix it pronto!
To wipe your handset (But not your mass memory/memorycard/simcard) turn your phone off, then whilst you are turning it on hold down the GREEN (call key) AND Star (bottom left) key AND the number 3 all at the same time. Hold them down until you are greeted with the nokia tone, if it worked then you should be asked to set your location, otherwise do it again but quicker.
But as i said, give it to nokia as the handset sounds faulty, very faulty.
    Hope this helps,
    Tony

  • Replaced N96 restarting

Hi, I too have a problem with my N96 which keeps restarting (every 20' if idle, every 5-10' if I try to use it, e.g. get directions, listen to music or make a phonecall).
I returned it to Nokia freepost 3 times, it was sent back without being repaired. After a few angry phonecalls I sent it back a 4th time and it was replaced with another N96 from their repair stock. That too kept restarting BEFORE I MOVED ANY OF MY CONTACTS OR SETTINGS TO IT. Sent it back again, third phone arrived and that too restarts!
I have updated the firmware to 30.033, done hard and soft restarts, removed battery for 5', spoke to Nokia care centre, nothing seems to help...
Is there hope, or shall I just bin it and get an iPhone?
Note that all replacement phones sent by Nokia are not new, but are phones other people found unacceptable and had replaced.
Any suggestions / help greatly appreciated.

I should say, the handsets they sent back out have been "repaired" in the sense that they've been looked at, had parts replaced etc. and are only sent out when they meet certain standards. It's just that for some of the reverse logistics firms those standards aren't, shall we say, fantastic.
I don't think A-Novo have any real brand new stock to send out: they do tend to have old phone kits lying around (without the phone itself) but those aren't new either.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • N96: Stop during Restarting- I don't know what wil...

My mobile: N96 (SW 30.033, RM-247, Nokia China,Purchased before 15 month, Riyadh Saudi Arabia)
before two days I switch off my mobile and restart it but the white screen come then nokia screen coming but the phone stop and after one minute it restart itself again and same things then restart, I try to remove the battery and wait half hour and start the phone but same problem.
So after many trials I make 4-key phone memory format so the phone restart and I was too much happy but I lost the contacts as it is stored in the phone memory in addition to all my exchange email and nokia email, so I was having back up so I connect it to PC Suit and I restore the contacts from my nokia back but after finishing it was asking for restart and the crises happened again and same previous, stopping at nokia screen then restart restart restart.
So again I make phone memory and I using synchronization between my mobile and outlook to return my contacts and I don't know what will happened if I restart my phone.
I don't know what to do as my phone warranty is one year and nokia care will not accept to check it and I don't think that there is qualified shop can repair such this type of problems.
IM too much disappointed from nokia and I feel that these type of mobiles designed to work for one year only and if you ask help from nokia care after one year they will not accept.
So any person face same problem and he know how to solve it

Try this: format the phone like you'd done before. While restoring the backup, skip the user files and settings. Restore only contacts and messages.
Most often it's the settings that play spoilsport.
    Cheers,

  • Nokia N96 restarts while using Gps, Google Maps an...

Hi guys, I've got this problem with my n96. When I try to use Nokia maps or Google maps, it restarts automatically. Last month I updated the firmware to 30.033. It was working fine before update, I had no problem with nokia and google maps, but after that update to firmware it randomly restarts. Any help would be highly appreciated.

The problem of phones restarting following a firmware update can usually be resolved by resetting the phone.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
    First try  this,
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone
If it doesn't work then try this.
Then try the "3 finger deep reset". With the phone powered off, depress and hold these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone using the on/off button whilst keeping all four keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM.

  • N96 v30 firmware restarts/reboots randomly

    Hi.
I updated OTA to the new v30 firmware for my N96 (EURO1).
Now, the phone restarts 3 or 4 times a day, usually when I'm not even touching it (i.e. it's sat on my desk at work and it'll just turn off and then back on again.
It doesn't ask for a PIN / lock code when it powers back up either which it always does when I switch the thing off and on manually.
I've tried the hard reset and reinstall options but to no avail
Anyone got any suggestions (other than throwing it in the river?!)?
    Rich.

If you have tried the multi finger reset and a firmware reinstall via NSU to no avail then you have problems
The behaviour you describe is not typical of an N96 with v30 and suggests a deeper problem
If you have a memory card installed remove it and see if the behaviour persists
If it does then look at your installed apps and try removing some of these
Otherwise a Nokia Care point for a warenty repair maybe your best bet

  • N96 - Phone restart log?

My N96 is an Telstra (Australian) one.
    SW ver 11.018 Date 20080913
    Custom Version 11.018.283.4
    Custom Version Date 20081105
Is there a restart log and uptime info that i can access in the N96.
Am having the phone restart at different time, mainly bluetooth and wlan related, but the other day I saw the white screen of death as I was about to pick it up. Restart are very quick.
Have reported this issue to Nokia
It restarts when I start a pause mp3 if the bluetooth speaker,
MD-7W, have disconnected due to a long time on pause.
    Little Rant follows
Also how do I get the missing 68MHz that the N95 has.
N96 - CPU Count Dual CPU, CPU Type ARM 9, CPU Clock Rate 264 MHz
N95 - CPU Count Dual CPU, CPU Type ARM 11, CPU Clock Rate 332 MHz
Message Edited by seb42 on 10-Jan-2009 04:07 AM

FWIW, the ARM-9 can get more done than the ARM-11 at the same speed, so an ARM-9 running at 264MHz isn't as bad as it looks at first sight compared to an ARM-11 at 332MHz.
The big advantage of lowering the clock speed is improved power consumption. I was lucky to get 36 hours out of my N95 while I can just about squeeze 60 hours out of the N96 on one charge.

N96 has restarting after 10 min until using music player or navigation or other multimedia.
In servic has again flash and they claim that isn't problem in softvware then in hardware part.
They think thats RGB chip is heating so recommend to change motherboard
    any another solutions pls
    thanks

Probably a smart thing to do as there's as mentioned nothing you can do with the phone youreself to make it work properly.
I cross my fingers and hope the new service centre sorts it out!
You're welcome to post the outcome of this here!

Hi , I have problem with my N96, only the hard reset did not work for me.
I also tried the restore factory settings *#7780# but the phone keeps restarting.
I would appreciate any suggestion to get out of this loop.
    Thanks.

none of the two do not. I tried to change and sim card but do so with and without sim card. I have not installed anything on it from what I have since bought. I was in service (notnokia service) and told me that i have nothing to do. but I still do not understand why he does so. I did not hit me rather than I have done nothing. The charged battery a fullcharge when it is off but when you start stay 10 seconds ON and then restart. The nokia service center told me that you must leave them three months and they could not tell mehow much it costs me or what has the phone.
    Thanks.

i have nokia n96 and 2-days ago i got corrupted (mass) memory error so i restarted the phone and it was ok.

Is there any way to make them back into Captured ? Any database file to delete and to refresh the image gallery ?
    Thanks,

  • N96 offline - can't get it back online!

Hi all - my N96 (had it about 2 months) keeps doing some annoying things:
-randomly it will come up Insert Sim and require restarting
    -it will turn itself off
    and the killer one
-when I restart it, it comes up frequently in Offline Mode.
Sometimes I can restart it again and get an option to continue Offline or Online, so I can select Online and use it again as normal. There is not always this prompt...this time, it's Offline and staying that way. I have restarted about 10 times now and I can't get it to come Online again. Is there an option somewhere in the phone that I can't find?
I updated the firmware when I first got it but find the thing ridiculously slow, who should wait minutes to open a text message? Am seriously tempted to take it back in case it's a dud - or are these common problems?
When I wanted the phone at my upgrade, the person dealing with my upgrade warned me off the phone saying they were almost 100% faulty...but reading here, some people seem to not have the problems that I do!
Thanks in advance for your help re: my various questions!

Not all N96 behave like this-certainly mine does not. However, there might be something wrong with your SIM card. I had an similar issue in a previous phone and it turned out to be the SIM card-it does not recognise it and it goes offilne. Other than that, try to change the settings so you can save sms to phone memory not mass memory- this helped some people..
