Restarting Returns Settings to Factory Default

Hello,
Since I started using a router, my comp has been acting goofy. I was getting several copies of each email at first, and now everytime I restart my comp or open mail, everything is returned to factory settings and I have to set up mail again. I've tried downloading macscan and clamXav, but it says codec overrun when I open it. I've run repair permissions, and now it says "no mountable system". I don't know if it's my old 10.3.9 system that's clogged or a virus/spyware from using a router. Sometimes downloads disappear and reappear too. I don't currently have any virus protection. Next I will try dick utility from the install cd, but wondered if there are any other suggestions out there?

Hi again dazyduke7,
"When I restarted my comp, it had saved my defaults"
That's great! It may well indeed been a problem with lack of hard disk space and not enough ram. Old log files can over time claim a lot of disk space.
In regards to what is going on with your iPhoto app and importing I am not sure what is going on.
"I could not import any photos from my pictures folder. It states the "files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." It made me upgrade iphoto and I wonder if that has something to do with it? All of my photos are jpegs so it's not the file type. I have noticed some photos display the thumbnail and some use the Preview icon, but neither will import. I could restore iphoto since nothing is in it, but not sure that would help?"
If I am understanding correctly, you have opened iPhoto (no photos in "Photo Library" pane, correct? You are trying to import photos by following the path iPhoto>File Menu/Import>Home>Pictures folder>(?). Is your iPhoto Library folder shown in the Pictures folder when you follow this path or are these photos in another folder or loose within the Pictures folder?
Is it possible that you are importing photos in larger blocks or individually? Do you receive the error when you try importing one at a time? If so see:
iPhoto gives import error "file not valid" when import more than one photo
(thanks Terence Devlin for above tip)
I suspect that you may have deleted something so that these files have lost their connection to the iPhoto Library but I am unclear from your description.
What exactly did you do in regards to "It made me upgrade iphoto and I wonder if that has something to do with it?"
If you could also explain what exactly you mean by "some emails" being "encrypted" when you open Mail.app?
please post back with as much information that you might think pertains,
LS

  • How can I reset my web server settings to factory default without reinstalling the operating system?

I have a MacBook Air that has been upgraded over time from OS to OS. I'm currently running Yosemite.
I don't have any issues with the computer, it is running fine. Over the years, however, I've tinkered around with the server in different ways (the apache and php that shipped with OS X, MAMP, and with NGINX) and when I went to get back into some development it seems as though there's some conflicts.
What I'd love to do (assuming it is possible) is reset all of the web server's factory settings so I can just move forward from that point (Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc.).
I saw there was a terminal command for OS X Server that allows you to reset all of the server settings to how it came from the factory.
Is there a similar command that works for non-OS X Server or a utility that can restore the web server settings?

there probably is a way, but the success rate would be fairly low. you say you don't want to reinstall the OS, why? you know that reinstalling it keeps all your files and settings as they are, while resetting system files? (OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X)

  • Factory default settings ?

How do I reset my HP Officejet all-in-one printer to factory default settings ?

If you find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash and restart, that will get things back to factory default. On the other hand, if you have never previously made a calibration of any kind, then the settings probably still are at factory default.

  • E3000 needs to be restarted regularly, sometimes resets to factory default

My E3000 needs to be restarted at least once a week. Pings to the router will slowly lag over time and reach 700+ after several days from my wired desktop. Sometimes during the restart the router will also reset to factory default settings.
So far I've installed the 1.0.02 (build 4) firmware and done the restart while holding the button. The new firmware has greatly improved my wireless performance but I have no idea what to do next.

Follow the below mentioned settings and then check.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter. Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case. Click on the Wireless tab > Click on Advanced Wireless Settings Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings.

  • Reset 3GS to factory default settings

I need to reset my 3GS iPhone to factory defaults (I will be doing this to five different phones ; does that matter?). Can some one direct me to the spot to do that? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I am a procurement guy. The phones are not mine and the users turned them back in with NO documentation and a claim that all data had been wiped out. I gave two of the phones to my kids (17 & 18) and they found all sorts of pictures and other "data" on a "scrubbed" phone. This is why I asked how to reset to factory settings.

  • 3rd party install Vista over XP, Return to factory default?

3rd party installed Vista over XP on a T60.  Is there a way to return to factory default through ThinkVantage?  Tried holding down ThinkVantage button at startup, but only gets me into Bios, no thinkvantage software.  Ideas?

    1. Make sure your Recovery Partition is still alive. This can be checked through Disk Management. If the partition is still alive, make it active and reboot. You can now get to ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery
    2. If it fails, you need the Product Recovery Media. If you don't have one, you will need to get one form Lenovo Support.

  • I can not reset factory default settings in photoshop, which will enable the "mini bridge". any ideas???

I tried uninstall and installing the program. I am taking a class and I need to open the "mini bridge" within the program.  The instructions were to open the program and as it was opening, press cntrl, alt and shift to access the default settings. I did this and the prompt came up asking if I wanted to go to factory default settings, I responded yes. The program continued to open and should have shown the mini bridge tab in lower left c@orner of the application page, nothing shows up. This is my dilema.

    Hi,
The Mini Bridge panel is no longer available in the most current major version (15.x) of Ps CC aka 2014. You can install the previous major version, Ps CC (14.2.1) by using the Creative Cloud desktop application.

  • Recently had to reset my computer back to factory default settings

I recently had to reset my computer back to factory default settings due to a possible keylogger hidden somewhere on my computer. When I did this, I forgot to transfer all of my songs onto my iPod before I did it, which wiped all of my songs off of my computer. I recently re-installed iTunes and I need to know if there is a way to recover the songs I had purchased previously?
Whenever I try to "Buy Song", it takes me to the receipt of the song, but won't download it. Any suggestions?

  • Personal Settings Reset to Factory Defaults on Boot Up

    I'm on a mid-2012 Mac-Book Pro running OS X 10.9.4 Mountain Lion.
Every time I boot up my Mac (after it has been shut down) all of the settings on my Mac which I've changed are reset to the factory defaults (for example: the applications shown in the dock, the widgets on the desktop furthest to the left and other general settings such as the motions for the track-pad just to name a few).
Thanks in advance for any help anyone provides.

To fix this problem I have already tried running security programs to remove any malware/viruses from my computer, reinstalling my operating system and running disk utility and using the 'repair disk permissions' option.

  • Factory Defaults in Mac Mini and Possible Trade-Up?

Hi, beforehand, please direct all answers if possible to [email protected] Thanks in advance.
I have questions that have probably been answered or maybe not, so I'm sorry in advance.
I'd like to restore my Mac Mini to its factory defaults. Since I'm a Windows-user-almost-turned-Mac-user, I'm still learning, but it's just difficult for me. The reason I'd like to do this is so that I can hopefully sell it and eventually buy a Macbook with the money I get on it.
That being said, I'd also like to ask if there is possibly a way I can bring my Mac Mini to, say, a local Apple Store and "trade up" to a Macbook--and pay whatever difference with cash. Again, I'm very new to this, so thank you all for your forebearance.
I hope to hear from any of you soon. Have a great day and weekend, and Happy Father's in advance to you fathers.

Easy enough to do, insert the install disc, restart the Mac and hold the C key down. You can select erase and install, which wipes everything out, or archive and install which preserves your home folder.
if there is possibly a way I can bring my Mac Mini to, say, a local Apple Store and "trade up" to a Macbook
If you are in the 14 day purchase period then yes you can do a return/purchase. After that no, and in fact I don't know any computer company that will let you trade up to another model after you go beyond the return period.
The mini and Macbook are nearly identical in specs and the speed difference in the mini's clock rate is minimal. If you need a portable solution I suggest you purchase the Macbook as opposed to the mini. I own both and I'm very pleased with both of them and I think either one you buy will be a great computer to work and play with

  • Need help resetting the Surface Pro 3 Back to factory Defaults

Hey guys need some help.  I have a Surface Pro 3 we were trying to image.  No Luck.  We have given up for now and tryingto go back to factory defaults.  Luckily I made a restore USB before I did anything.  Here is the problem:
Somehow we screwd up the UEFI settings and it wont even find the drive.  I Keep changing the settings but everytime i go to "Reset Your PC" and repartition drives I get a "Unable to reset your PC. The system Drive cannot be found"
    message.
I See no clear way of setting it back to Factory Defaults but here is the Screen BIOS/UEFI screen settings
    Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Enabled
    (Tried Both No luck)
    Secure Boot Control Disabled
    (Tried Both No luck)
configure Alternate System Boot Order Network-USB- SSD
    (Tried both ways no luck)
Configure External Ports -All ports enabled.

Yes you can. From CLI of Mars:
    [pnadmin]$ pnreset -h
    Usage:  pnreset or pnreset option.
Default. With no options pnreset restores the appliance to factory
defaults and purges all configuration and event data (certificate and
fingerprints stored to validate reporting devices, topology settings,
archived logs, and the license key information).
        -h  Displays this usage information.
-g  Removes the Global Controller data from a Local Controller, leaving
the Local Controller-specific data and the Global Controller
communication information untouched.  Use this option only after
a Global Controller crash or recovery.  In this case, "pnreset -g"
must be executed on every Local Controller that was monitored by
            the failed Global Controller.
-s  Removes the Global Controller communication information and resets
a Local Controller to standalone mode.  It removes the Global Controller
data and connectivity data from the Local Controller as well as the
default Controller zone information.  Use this option only after
a failed Delete of the Local Controller entry from the Global Controller
            "Local Controller Management" web page.
-o  Resets the tnsnames.ora file to factory default. The tnsnames.ora file
is required for the Oracle client to connect to the Oracle server.
-j  Resets the web server scheduler depending on Local Controller's
running mode. A restart of web server is enforced.
    [pnadmin]$ pnreset
Reset command will erase all data in database and reboot the machine.
Please type YES if you want to proceed:
    Hope this helps.

    Hi iPheariPhoPad,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with Settings, the Notes app entry isn’t showing up as expected. Take a look at the article linked below and try restarting your iPhone 3GS.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If that doesn’t do it, try restoring your iPhone as shown in this article:
