Restarting Windows

Hello,
I had to reinstall my PC at home and at the office.
Both times, connecting the ipod, the PC asked me to "allow" this new computer, this means I am only using 2 PCs but they count for 4.
For what? I haven't really understood this.
Can anybody please explain?
Thanks
Max

Unless you deauthorise a computer before reinstalling the operating system the computer will use up one of your authorisations. Once this has happened you can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation on it's own. You can wait until you have reached the limit of 5 authorisations and then you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Can we get an option to NOT automatically restart Windows explorer when CC updates?

Virtually every time CC updates, it restarts Windows Explorer, and while generally speaking, this is *slightly* better than restarting the computer, I still end up having to restart the computer because restarting explorer does not bring back some of my system tray tools that I actually use (Sound card manager, game controller manager and some others).
Can we get an option in preferences to turn the explorer restart off? It's super annoying and doesn't prevent me from having to restart the machine anyway.

I think we are getting a bit off track. There is nothing technically wrong with the installer. It isn't *directly* killing other processes, it's just a side effect of explorer going away. I'm guessing anything that starts from the startup folder when windows starts, doesn't necessarily restart when only explorer is restarted. 2 examples that I can think of off the top of my head are the profile editor for my Nostromo speedpad, and the control panel for my sound card. at least those two apps do not restart when explorer does. I use them frequently. When they disappear, I have to go hunting for them in the start menu. I realize these are very minor, but it's a side effect that is beyond the control of the CC updater, which is why the user should have control over when explorer is restarted, not the updater.

When I try to cut and past text from Firefox to Microsoft Works I receive an error that says 'Not enough memory, close applications and restart windows'. This never works! I never had this issue with IE! How can I fix this issue?

If the crashing only happens with other peoples projects it could be for a variety of reasons. There are tons of asset references saved in the library (the location every item was imported from) and much more. None of those locations will exist on your system and internal complications may simply happen, especially with any runtime shared assets.
If possible you should consider adding more system RAM so you can multi-task. RAM is extremely cheap. I'm assuming from a smaller 500GB HD and 4GB RAM that you're probably on a laptop however. Installing RAM is still usually pretty easy if you have the notebook manual (or grab it online). It typically involves just lifting the keyboard or opening a single panel on the bottom of the notebook but it varies greatly. At any rate, 8GB RAM would help you quite a bit. If you do, just make sure you get the correct type of RAM (again, in the specs in your manual).
Even when you run out of physical RAM, Flash (like any other application) will still see more RAM based on the OS's swap memory setting (using available space on your HD as RAM). It will get much slower but Flash should see the total amount the 32bit OS can handle for RAM (it doesn't know if it's physical fast RAM or SWAP (fake) HD RAM though). If you open other apps with Flash they should also operate, but will also use swap RAM and you've probably noticed your HD crunching a lot while more apps are open.
That said, I have a 4GB RAM in my older i7 lappie and have used Flash CS5.5 and CS6 on it extensively, with other applications open. Although my projects contain mild assets and mostly tons of code. No issues at all. I just think your heavy assets are crashing you.
Either way, glad you got your work done. You're welcome and good luck!

  • Do SameSubnetDelay or SameSubnetThreshold setting need restart windows failover cluster ?

    Hi ,
I set SameSubnetDelay=2000 and SameSubnetThreshold = 10,but after a failover, when i check the cluster log, we still found SameSubnetDelay and SameSubnetThreshold  use default setting.
So i want to konw do these settings need restart windows failover cluster core resource group to take effect?
    Our windows version: Windows 2008 R2 SP1
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
After set up new values for these two settings , i checked the values use "cluster /prop " command, it indeed show new values.
But after a sql server cluster instance failover, i checked the cluster log to find the cause of failover ,in the cluster log it showed default values for these settings. There were two times like this.
I will keep watching this, and next time i will post the setting values and cluster log.

  • Photosmart c6180 driver disapears after restarting Windows 7

Problem is: Photosmart c6180 driver disapears after restarting Windows 7
    Operating System is: Windows 7
    Connection is Wireless
    Printer is Photosmart c6180
    Driver is for Windows
7 and has been downloaded multiple several times from the HP Website
HP Support was not help:  they could not even get the printer to work even when it was wired USB since they refused to remove the driver first.  I have old computers and use USB Hubs so it puts a strain on the resources to hook up to much on the USB Ports evern with the extra power they have.
I have removed the driver and reinstalled it at least 2-3 times a month since January.  The computer sees and installs the printer and it works fine as long as I do not shut down the computer.  However whenever there are any updates for windows the computer needs to be restarted and then the printer won't work anymore.
I tryed this today which I found on the internet and it did not work either.
Click on another printer or the Microsoft XPS Document Writer
Click on Printer server properties in the top menu
Choose Drivers in the Installed printer drivers select the printer that was uninstalled in step 3.
Click on Remove and when asked choose Remove driver and driver package and click on ok.
Install the Windows 7 software for the printer.
Does anyone have anything else I can try.  I reinstall the printer driver again for the second time today and it allways works just fine if I just never had to restart the computer it would work fine.

  • How to restart windows driver from LabVIEW code?

    Hi
I want to restart a window7's driver from my LabVIEW code. Is there any system VI to do that? Which palette should I use in this case? I want to restart windows 7’s driver of the network adapter. I have an Intel network adapter board installed in my system. To this adapter board I have an Intel dirver installed in windows7 operationg system. I want to restart that adapter board from my VI code. Or as alternative I want to disable and enable this adapter board from my VI. How to do that?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Look at the devcon command line utility. I believe you can use it to do most of the functions you can do from the windows device manager.

  • How to restart windows (any) from java program

What is the system program that I have to call in order to restart windows...
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(???);

I hope your app is first asking the user for
permission to do that first. Otherwise be prepared to
be smacked upside the head with a smelly sock when
you reboot when the user really really really didn't
want you to.I'm actually counting on natural selection to do its work in this case. That's why I was willing to help.

  • Problems after restart Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I've installed Windows 8.1 pro in my laptop.
After I restart Windows 8.1 (Not Turn-off and on) and log on it, the problem is occurred.
Windows does not response and show any dialog about system, for example Control Panel, gpedit.msc, msconfig...etc
and anti-virus program(avast!), some messanger, Bluetooth, Intel Smart Connect Technology, which should be started automatically, are not started.
But I can execute Google Chrome, Microsoft Outlook, Eclipse... etc... without performance issue. It's truly normal!!
After 5 ~ 10 minutes, Windows 8.1 become fully normal state. the above problem doesn't appear any more.
Of course, if I restart my laptop, the problem will be occurred again.
The problem doesn't occur once I turn my laptop off and on manually.
Plz let me know, how can I fix the above problem!! I love all features of Windows 8.1, don't want to back Windows 7.

    Hi,
Please check Startup option in Task Manager if there is any items that relate with these application. If so, try to disable them for test.
Clean boot is a good way to diagnose this problem. Please have a try.

  • I restarted Windows 8, but now my keyboard and touchpad don't work!

I have an HP Envy M6-1184ca laptop that I got about 4 weeks ago. It's running Windows 8 64-bit. Today, I downloaded and installed VirtualBox and it disabled my wireless adapter for the installation. So, when it was done, I tried to re-enable it, but it wouldn't enable, so I went to reboot. I saw that there were updates available so I chose update and restart. It updated and restarted.
But, when it showed the lock screen, my cursor wasn't there. I tried moving my finger on the touchpad. It didn't work. Clicking did nothing. Typing and pressing keys did nothing, except for the keyboard light key and the brightness controls. I can still log in however since I've got a fingerprint reader. But after it logs me in, everything on the keyboard stops working, even the screen brightness controls and the keyboard light button! I get no error messages whatsoever.
I've tried several hard reboots and nothing fixed it. I'm out of ideas. I don't want to re-install Windows because I have files that can never be recovered, ever. They'd be lost for good. And I haven't backed them up! Please help me!

    Hi,
You should still be able to connect a usb keyboard and mouse to use as a workaround in Windows.  You should strongly consider running Windows system restore and choosing a restore point before 02/03/2013. That should take care of the majority of the issues.
Afterwards do not run the Windows update in automatic mode. Find out which update that it wants to install and do a Google search for issues with it. You can not have been alone in having this happen.
Reinstall the HP Quick Launch software and the HP Software framework.
If you have Windows 8 Pro as your operating system, then you can use Hyper-V instead of VirtualBox.   VirtualBox may have been the root cause.
    Share your results here.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • Completely random restarts (windows + linux)

    Hey,
I put together a system (see sig) for a friend, anyway they started complaining about random restarts using winxp (with or without either service pack). Cutting a long story short, we RMA'd the motherboard, got a replacement, and the problem persisted.
Basically this is a list of things that has been observed to happen
    1) Randomly reboots during winxp install (not connected to the internet, harddrive virus free did a complete scan and alternated b/n linux / windows installs, ie filesystem changed -> no virus)
    2) Reboots under windows randomly, can be when surfing the net, ripping cds (this is the best test to make it happen), or just sitting idle (went to get a drink and it had done it). I tried to disable the "Automatic restart on fatal error" in the advanced settings thing, that did nothing, so im fairly certain that its a hardware issue after that.
    3) Reboots during Gentoo Install (I figured I should stress test it), the reboots occur at different places depending on the settings changed, and detailed below, but inevitably it always reboots.
    4) Occasionally winxp will fail to load, or givea a BSOD before rebooting, but this has happened maybe 5 times in hundreds of random restarts, the error messages are not in reference to anything in particular, nor could I garuntee the ability to get a copy of one to show you.
I spent most of yesterday digging around these forums reading suggestions etc...
The following is a list (i took notes) of what I have tried (this is long I know, im sorry)
    1) Different PSU
Originally the PSU was the stock standard that came with the sonata http://www.antec.com/specs/true380_spe.html which at 380W seemed a little low (this was before reading forum posts), so replaced it with the one in the sig -- Not a PSU problem.
    2) Different RAM
Figured since a second replacement board had the same problem it could be the RAM, tried RAM from my machine which I know is working perfectly, reboot as normal. Hmm so I did a memtest86 scan on the memory left it running 48hrs, that lets memtest86 loop about 7 times (for anyone interested) there was not a single error. -- Not a RAM defect.
    Started reading forums here
    3) Different Harddrive / Optical Drive
Tried a 120G sata maxtor drive (which I know works), reboots persisted.
Tried a DVD-ROM, from my machine, reboots persisted.
    4) Measured the voltage with multimeter, all voltages were within 1% of the spec.
    5) Put some thermal (arctic silver 5) compound on the cpu / heatsink, but the temperature under stress test never goes above 51 degrees anyway. Not at all out side the operational conditions for a P4 3.0.
    6) Ram Timings / placement
If I leave as SPD, reboots occur more quickly, setting timings to 2.5-3-3-7 burst 8 gives me longer until the reboot occurs, however it still eventually occurs. I have tried running the ram in single channel mode (with both sticks in the same channel), dual channel mode 1 3 and 2 4 have been tested, and by only having one stick in at a time (
    7) Ram voltage
I kept alternating b/n SPD and the above timings as I moved the RAM voltage 2.60 - 2.65 - 2.70 - 2.75 (I haven't gone any higher yet as thats the red zone, ie 2.80), the best times I experienced for a gentoo install were with 2.70 / 2.75 however after 20 to 25 minutes of compiling the machine restarts. I couldnt get the machine to restart ripping cds on this setting, but thats probably because I lost interest in ripping over and over again after the 5th time, I did get to 10th rip once, only to have it restart.
    8) Clock Frequencies
Tried setting FSB to 201 (as some threads recommend), didnt help. Tried setting RAM speed at 266, 333, 400, and auto, the lower the speed the longer until a reboot, but only a minute or two is gained by 266 over 400. All this is done on the NORMAL (meaning SLOW on older boards) setting.
    10) Video card
Originally there was just some old PCI card I had laying around in the machine (lack of money), however now (see sig), either way reboots occured, the video card was my 3rd suspect, motherboard, ram, video, psu, .... etc...
    Thats it.
Now, I saw some people commenting (when I was reading the threads) that they wondered if this batch of boards was bodgey, no one seemed to want to agree, however after trying suggestions from over 100 threads (do a search for random reboot if you dont believe me) and not actually getting any success, and having had this happen over TWO of the SAME board, im really beginning to think that is the case. Some of the search results were PSU based, granted, so lets knock off 50% that leaves about 50 cases of this incident which haven't actually been resolved.
Im not playing blame game, it just seems very likely to me, but if someone gives me a solution that works, ill appologise profusely, and go and buy the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that ive been wanting -- but to scared from this situation, to actually buy.
This problem is remarkably similar to Random PC reboot this, except im not able to actually produce the windows errors as noted at the top.
    So... Please HELP !!!!!

1st of all, kudos to you mate, now this is the proper way to ask for help!
but looks like you've tried everything other than hitting it with great force with a piece of 4 by2.
only thing i can ask is if you've tried increasing the vAGP in bios, this doesnt really increase the voltage to your agp (well, it does) but more to the point, it increases the voltage to the motherboard chipset. you've mentioned that youve put as5 on the cpu, it might be worth trying a clean and application under the northbridge too (though they do coat it with some cr@p so much its a bit of work sometimes getting it all off)..
another thing, though this shouldnt help, is to try increasing the vCore to the cpu just a tad, most intel boards' voltages vary a fair bit, some say its due to a special functionalities withing the processor itself, but most say that this hasnt been implemented.
other than that, best of luck to ya
p.s. or you could go get a cheap 865 board as a replacement, i wouldnt upgrade to a64 yet with nforce4 (nvidia) + xpress200 (ati) mobos just around the corner as well as 90nm a64 processors with sse3 instuctions too

  • IPod keeps restarting, Windows and iTunes cannot recognize it

One day my iPod just started skipping through songs when it was on shuffle. I tried restarting it, but the folder with the exclamation point icon appeared. I realize that I need to restore the iPod, but when I connect the iPod to my computer, it keeps continually restarting, making it impossible for iTunes or Windows to be able to recognize the iPod. Windows seems to be trying to recognize it, but the restarting happens so quickly that it isn't working. I can put the iPod in Disk Mode, but when I plug it into my computer, it just starts restarting all over again. Is there another way to restore the iPod, without using iTunes? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have now been able to get the "Wireless Zero Configuration" started automatically but I must still open the wireless "properties" window and check the "Use windows to configure..." box to get a list of wireless connections.  My wireless network will then connect automatically after that.  Still a hassle but much better.
