Restore 2012 imac to factory conditions - OSX Mavericks

Hi
I have a early Late 2012 early 2013 maxed out iMac 27" (Slim one with Fusion drive and a FDD) It came with Snow Leopard installed.
I now want to restore it back to factory condition clean but with Mavericks on it.  I then want to set it up with my software.
How do I do this as I have read conflicting reports.
I will clone the drive before I start with Superduper and backup all software/Date.
One method says delete HDD in settings and then when you reboot you have an option to automataclly download Maverricks.  Is this correct ? Is this the best way ? How will it download when I havent set up internet access ?
Another methods mention making a bootable USB drive.
Please advise as I would like to do this over Christmas
regards CARLO

You can only reinstall the OS version that came pre-installed. You must remove the computer from your list of registered products once you sell it so the new owner can register it and use the original pre-installed software.
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
       A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
       B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
          1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
          2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
          3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
              side.
          4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
              sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
               startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
          1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
          3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
          4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
          5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
     A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
          1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
          2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
          3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
          4. Install OS X.
          5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
          6. Shutdown the computer.
     B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
          1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
              Utilities window appears.
          2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
          3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
          4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
          5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
          6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
          7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
          8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

    2. Open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install OS X. Turn off the computer after installing Mac OS X

Look at this similar problem in getting Netflix on an iPad 1. Same technique should work for you.

Did you use the Toshiba recovery disks to restore your notebook to factory condition?  All of the drivers would have been installed at that time.  If you don't have the disks, consider ordering a set.  Call  Customer Service: (800) 457-7777.
Your notebook has a Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset.  The driver for it is available by clicking on the 'Product Support' link at the top of this page and navigating to it.  Please note that there is a critical product support notice concerning the need to update your BIOS to prevent a power on password from appearing:

If you did not use the Toshiba recovery disks, then there are several other drivers and utilities on your model's page that should be installed to get the best utility from it.
A quick link to the display driver for your notebook is:

  • Restoring HP laptop to Factory condition

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 4165DX laptop that I purchased a few years ago, when Windows 8 came out I purchased a legal copy of Windows 8, however I have always hated it and I want to go back to Windows 7. That is the OS that was on my laptop when I purchased it. I also remember a couple of years ago restoring that same laptop to factory condition, but I can't remember how I did it .... it was a key combination on boot up that would restore the laptop to factory condition. I have reseached on google what key need to be pushed in what order, however every combination that  I have tried will not work. I do know that the original recovery partition is still there but it seems like windows 8 boots so quickly that it by passes the key combination. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    Hi:
Once you installed W8, you probably rendered the recovery partition useless.
In order to use the recovery partition, you tap the F11 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu to restore the PC to its 'out of the box software' condition.
You can try that, but I don't think it will work.
If it doesn't you will need to order a set of recovery disks for your PC by clicking on the link below, then click to expand the line labeled Order Recovery Media.  Then click on the blue More Details button.

I bought a mac 2 days ago and transferred some files on there using migration assist which I did not want to. How do I restore my imac to factory settings so I can start again?

Look in /Users folder. You can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, open the lock and "-" delete the account it created.
This is a problem whenever you use migration assistant after the initial install. The proper way to run Migration Assistant is in Setup Assistant when you first boot your Mac. I don't know why Apple isn't clearer about this issue.

  • Running VOIP phone from shared LAN on iMac 27" running latest OSX Mavericks

Hi, I´ve got a mid 2011 27" iMac which has been updated to the latest version of OSX Mavericks.
I connect to the internet over WIFI from the router and have shared the WIFI internet connection with the ethernet port to connect my Aastra 6730i VOIP phone.
I work from home and I am able to make outgoing calls no problem but cannot receive any incoming calls and the phone displays a "no service" message on the screen.
I do not know if this is a IP configuration issue with the ethernet port on the iMac or if it is to do with the config of the phone itself.
The ethernet is configuring the IP address on the iMac using DHCP and currently gives a self assigned IP of 169.254.xx.xx with a subnet of 255.255.0.0.
The IP address programmed to the phone is 192.168.2.6, subnet of 255.255.255.0, gateway of 192.168.2.1 and primary DNS of 192.168.2.1.
I used to have this working fine and able to make and receive calls without any manual configuration, the only things that changed recently are I updated to the most recent OSX Mavericks (10.9.4) (was running Mavericks 10.9.3 previously) and that we moved house, same iMac, same handset, same LAN cable, just unboxed it all and connectd it all back up same as before.
I am no networking pro and have tried everything I can think of so far, if anyone out there has more experience or knowledge and has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated! (and no running a LAN cable from the router direct to the phone is not an option)
    Thanks in advance

A few days after I originally posted this and I have just solved the problem, nothing to do with the iMac or the VOIP phone.
I figured out that I needed to do some more configuration to the router I received from my new ISP in order to disable a hidden SIP setting hat otherwise prevents VOIP from working properly.

  • Restoring my laptop to factory condition

I would like to know is it possible to restore my laptop to the factory condition without having the system disks or the password to the previous administrator files?

    New models:
    Turn off the laptop completely
Press and hold "0" (ZERO, the one above letter O and P) and turn on the laptop without letting go of the zero.
The laptop will beep and say "Windows is loading files."
Let go of the zero and wait until you see the big WARNING sign.
Click yes, select "Factory Default", click next, select "Out of Box", click next, next
It should say "Initializing the partition, please wait"
Wait 1-2 hours for the process to complete.
    Reply/PM me for more information.

  • How do I restore my iMac to factory settings?

I am sadly parting with my iMac but would like to remove everything off it and restore it to factory settings. What is the easiest way to go about this?

    Most commonly used backup methods
    Reset your Mac
If your files are going on a PC, then use a regular external drive (not TimeMachine) and right click format it exFAT on the PC, then use it on the Mac to transfer files too.
Don't format exFAT on the Mac.

  • How do you restore Apps using Time Machine in OSX Mavericks?

I cannot seem to restore my Apps from a Time Machine Backup. The same error message keeps being displayed: "Contacts can't be modified or deleted because it's required by the OS".

Sorry. I should have been more specific.
I accidentally deleted my contacts in Apple's address book App. I'm trying to restore them from a recent Time Machine backup.
I tried following the suggesstion in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5674113
For some reason, bringing the contacts window forward, as suggessted in the above thread, does nothing to solve my problem. I see the time machine backup of my contacts created at 12:24pm on Monday 25 April (EST Melbourne Australia). When the restore button is clicked, the Time Machine App seems to be transitioning past data into the present momnent, yet nothing actually happens. The contacts are not restored.
I never used to have any use prior to updating my OSx to Mavericks. Something about the way Mavericks is managing my data in the Address book, and possible calendar too, is preventing Time Machine from restoring properly.
