Restore a collection from a backup

Question

Hi,
One thing that has been keeping me busy for a while and that one of you may be able to provide a solution for is the following:
- I recently discovered that I deleted a collection set in the past (just the collection set, the photo's are still physically there);
- Since the time of the deletion I have made many additions to my catalog so restoring a full catalog backup is not an option as I will lose my recent changes;
- I have many backups of my catalog still having the collection that was deleted;
- I have tried the "import from another catalog" option but after a while that brings up a dialog box that is confusing to me as it says there are no duplicates/new photo's in the the catalog I want to import from (to be expected) and asks me to select some of the physical locations of the photo's which I don't feel are relevant as there a no changes there. This is the point that I stopped the import and went to the forum as I dont want to perform action that I don't understand as it could 'damage' my current catalog
I have tried the search function and could not find a similar case. If I overlooked a similar case, my apologies for that.
Any advice is appreciated.

You can recover content from an unattached content database by using Windows PowerShell which would allow you to extract the site collection without using a recovery farm.
To recover content from an unattached content database by using Windows PowerShell
Verify that you meet the      following minimum requirements: See Add-SPShellAdmin.
On the Start menu,      click All Programs.
Click Microsoft      SharePoint 2010 Products.
Click SharePoint 2010      Management Shell.
At the Windows PowerShell      command prompt, type the following command:
Get-SPContentDatabase      -ConnectAsUnattachedDatabase      
-DatabaseName <DatabaseName> -DatabaseServer      <DatabaseServer>
Where:
<DatabaseName> is the       name of the unattached database from which you want to recover content.
<DatabaseServer> is the       name of the database server that hosts the unattached database from which       you want to recover content.
