Restore a .DMP file in Oracle XE

Hello,
I am new to Oracle and I downloaded the XE version for testing purposes. Can anyone tell how I restore a .dmp file? I got the file from a cient and need to run some queries on it. Any help on this would be great.
Thanks.
Anil

I wish I can tell you how it was created. I got this
file from my client site and I have been unable to
find out how it was created as yet. Is there a place
where I can get step by step instruction about how I
could import this file? Well, that's the dilema. The 'import' steps depend on how the 'export' was taken. Indeed, it it possible that the dump was created with non-Oracle tools.
Anyway, I created a couple of 'normal' exports from my Windows-based XE, one using exp and one using expdp. Then I opened the resulting dump files (with Cream/Vim) just to see what I could see.
exp test/test file=exp.dmp tables=testresulting in a file wit the first lines reading:
^C^@+EXPORT:V10.02.01
UTEST
RTABLES
2048
0
20
0and
expdp test/test directory=tempdir dumpfile=expdp.dmp tables=testcontained the following around the middle of line 2
TEST"."SYS_EXPORT_TABLE_01

  • How do you import data base dmp file in oracle 10g

How do you run data base dmp file in oracle 10g

    Examples..
    Table Exports/Imports
The TABLES parameter is used to specify the tables that are to be exported. The following is an example of the table export and import syntax:
    expdp scott/tiger@db10g tables=EMP,DEPT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=EMP_DEPT.dmp logfile=expdpEMP_DEPT.log
    impdp scott/tiger@db10g tables=EMP,DEPT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=EMP_DEPT.dmp logfile=impdpEMP_DEPT.log
For example output files see expdpEMP_DEPT.log and impdpEMP_DEPT.log.
The TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=APPEND parameter allows data to be imported into existing tables.
    Schema Exports/Imports
The OWNER parameter of exp has been replaced by the SCHEMAS parameter which is used to specify the schemas to be exported. The following is an example of the schema export and import syntax:
    expdp scott/tiger@db10g schemas=SCOTT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=SCOTT.dmp logfile=expdpSCOTT.log
    impdp scott/tiger@db10g schemas=SCOTT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=SCOTT.dmp logfile=impdpSCOTT.log
For example output files see expdpSCOTT.log and impdpSCOTT.log.
    Database Exports/Imports
The FULL parameter indicates that a complete database export is required. The following is an example of the full database export and import syntax:
    expdp system/password@db10g full=Y directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=DB10G.dmp logfile=expdpDB10G.log
    impdp system/password@db10g full=Y directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=DB10G.dmp logfile=impdpDB10G.log

Import has a lot of options, so it depends on what you want to do.
    C:\> imp help=y
will show you all possible options. An example of full import :
    C:\> imp <username>/<password>@<TNS alias> file=<DMP file> full=y log=<LOG file>

  • How to import *.dmp file Through Oracle SQL Developer (3.2.20.09)

    hi
how to import *.dmp file Through Oracle SQL Developer (3.2.20.09) ?
    how to do it ?
    thanks

    You do not.
.dmp files are created from our Export and Data Pump database utilities and are proprietary files. You use the corresponding Import (or Data Pump) utility to import the data.

  • How to insert data from *.dmp file to  oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Develope

    hi
i backup my database using PL/SQL developer and made *.dmp file
how to insert data from *.dmp file to oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
and how to make *.dmp file from sql*plus ?
    thanks in advance

Pl/Sql developer has a config window, there you choose the exec to do the import/export.
Find it and his home version, it may be exp or expdp, the home version is the version of the client where the exp executable is.
Then use the same version of imp or impdp to execute the import, you do not need to use Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64. If you want to use it, you must have the same version in the oracle home that exp/imp of sql developer use.

  • Import .dmp file in Oracle 11g in Linux

    Hi experts,
I m new here, please tell me how to import the database as .dmp file in Oracle 11g Release in Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5.
As i tried to execute this command:-
    **$ impdp username/password@orcl file = FILENAME.dmp full=y log=log.txt**
    but it gives error as:-
    **bash: impdp: command not found**
Now please help me about this.
    Thanx.
    Abhishek Kumar

    Hello,
    **$ impdp username/password@orcl file = FILENAME.dmp full=y log=log.txt**
    but it gives error as:-
**bash: impdp: command not found**First, if the command was not found it means that you don't have the right environment variables. So, be sure to be connected with the right OS User (oracle for instance).
Secondly, the parameter FILE is not used with Datapump. Instead you should use the Parameter DUMPFILE and, more over, you should better specify a DIRECTORY.
So, as said by Azar, you should read the documentation and see the differences between Datapump and classical Export/Import utility.

  • Restore DMP file in Oracle 10G  - URGENT!

hello, Oracle forum. I am a sql dba crossing over and need some help ASAP! Since I am new at 10G, I received some DMP files from a client and need to restore them ASAP!. Can you please provide EXACT steps on how to do this? I prefer to use the OEM gui, but need step-by-step. Await reply...Many thanks!

    Hi..
There are few questions to be answered:--
    1. What does that dump contain. Is it a table level or a schema level or a full database dump
    2. If its a table level who is the owner of the table
    3. If its a schema level , whats the schema name.
    4. was the export taken with exp or expdp utility.
    5. Is the database in which the export dump is to be imported have that schema or is that the data has to be imported to some other schema.
After all this information you can use imp or impdp utility it import the data in 10g database.
    For imp [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/exp_imp.htm#i1023560]
    for impdp [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/dp_import.htm#g1025464]

  • Is it possible to import an Oracle 10 (export .dmp file) into Oracle 9 db ?

    hi Oracle Guru's
Is it possible to import a oracle 10 (export .dmp file) into an oracle 9 database ?
I tried & got the following error ...
IMP-00010 not a valid export file, header failed verificationperhaps their is a work-around ?
    thanks

    Hi
You can take export from a previous version and import to a later version. Having said that, there is still a workaround to do what you want.
On 9i server add a connect string for your 10g instance. Then use 9i export utility to export 10g data. That way your export will be compatible with 9i. You can then import the data in your 9i instance.
To create connect string you can either use Net Configuration Assistant or manually edit TNSNAMES.ORA file in your 9i server.
    Hope it helps.

You can let Import prompt you for parameters by entering the IMP
    command followed by your username/password:
         Example: IMP SCOTT/TIGER
Or, you can control how Import runs by entering the IMP command followed
by various arguments. To specify parameters, you use keywords:
         Format:  IMP KEYWORD=value or KEYWORD=(value1,value2,...,valueN)
         Example: IMP SCOTT/TIGER IGNORE=Y TABLES=(EMP,DEPT) FULL=N
or TABLES=(T1:P1,T1:P2), if T1 is partitioned table
USERID must be the first parameter on the command line.
Keyword  Description (Default)       Keyword      Description (Default)
USERID   username/password           FULL         import entire file (N)
BUFFER   size of data buffer         FROMUSER     list of owner usernames
FILE     input files (EXPDAT.DMP)    TOUSER       list of usernames
SHOW     just list file contents (N) TABLES       list of table names
IGNORE   ignore create errors (N)    RECORDLENGTH length of IO record
GRANTS   import grants (Y)           INCTYPE      incremental import type
INDEXES  import indexes (Y)          COMMIT       commit array insert (N)
ROWS     import data rows (Y)        PARFILE      parameter filename
LOG      log file of screen output   CONSTRAINTS  import constraints (Y)
DESTROY                overwrite tablespace data file (N)
INDEXFILE              write table/index info to specified file
SKIP_UNUSABLE_INDEXES  skip maintenance of unusable indexes (N)
FEEDBACK               display progress every x rows(0)
TOID_NOVALIDATE        skip validation of specified type ids
FILESIZE               maximum size of each dump file
    STATISTICS             import precomputed statistics (always)
RESUMABLE              suspend when a space related error is encountered(N)
RESUMABLE_NAME         text string used to identify resumable statement
    RESUMABLE_TIMEOUT      wait time for RESUMABLE
COMPILE                compile procedures, packages, and functions (Y)
STREAMS_CONFIGURATION  import streams general metadata (Y)
STREAMS_INSTANTIATION  import streams instantiation metadata (N)
VOLSIZE                number of bytes in file on each volume of a file on tape
The following keywords only apply to transportable tablespaces
TRANSPORT_TABLESPACE import transportable tablespace metadata (N)
TABLESPACES tablespaces to be transported into database
DATAFILES datafiles to be transported into database
TTS_OWNERS users that own data in the transportable tablespace set

ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object.Take a look at the DBA_DIRECTORIES view with a SYSTEM login, to create the import log file the database user will need write permission to the directory, might have to use sysdba if the directory is owned by SYS user. Or just grant the privilege to the database user to create their own directory ...
