Restore Advice Needed Pls...

Hi,
I had lots of photos on my iPhone which I transferred to my PC a while back but somehow I have managed to delete the photos on both my iPhone and PC and I have since taken lots more photos which I cannot afford to lose.
I have an old iPhone backup on my PC which I assume will contain all my old photos and a very recent iCloud backup with all my new photos in it.
Any tips on the best way to get my old photos back whilst keeping my new ones?

IMac Problem - Recovery & Restore Advice Needed

Well, what we all dread finally happened to me today - my iMac 27” desktop w / 1 TB HD which had everything I value, CRASHED big time today and it doesn’t look good EXCEPT for any maybe my potential recovery. I had been backing up files & used TM for years w/o ever having to use it except for certain files or emails etc.
Without boring you with all the details, here is a synopsis:
The iMac desktop, 27”, 1 TB HD, bought 2010 and OS current with Mavericks 10.9 crashed today while I was editing Aperture 3 photo data.
Safe Mode Recovery, ran for hours, failed multiple times for 6+ hours
While in Recovery Mode, the Disk Utility said it was a corrupted HD (on iMac) and it was unable to repair it.
Message from Disk Utility was to 1. Recover Files, 2. Reformat HD, 3. Restore
My recovery situation for all my files is as follows:
1. I have a Super Duper! Duplicate (monthly) done on May1st
2. I have Time Machine turned on ALL the time and current thru May 12th AM.
3. Since I was actively editing Aperture 3, I had backed up my Aperture Library separately on May 5th and the particular project, May 10th on a separate HD
For the record - I have NEVER done a full recovery or restore as on any crashes, Safe Mode & Disk Utility Repairs have always done the job so I am checking in to make sure of the steps I NEED to follow:
A. Reformat my iMac 27” Desktop 1 TB HD
B. Do a Super Duper! Restore from May 1st.
C. Do a Time Machine Restore from May 1st to current
Question is, is this correct, what do I need to watch out for and any suggestions?

Update:
I powered down as the iMac just seemed to be getting "super hot" and let it cool off.
Note: I have a 1 TB HD with almost 500 GB available
Early this morning: I powered up in Recovery Mode (Command R)
Ran Disk Utility again for Verify & Repair Permissions
Ran Disk Utility for Verify Disk & Repair Disk and this time, it stated & repaired what I noted above.
I tried Restart - No Go after 30 minutes.
I powered down and then after several hours I tried Safe Mode, Powered Down after 30+ minutes.
Let it cool down, tried Safe Mode w / Shift V to see step by step
After a couple of minutes of various actions, several (15 to 20 & every few seconds) of disk os2 I/O error printed
Powered down, set up a appointment at closest Apple Store to see what status of local HD.
Meanwhile I will power up with a external HD containing a Super Duper! Bootable duplicate I made last week before going to Apple to find out more.

DropBox v TimeCapsule (advice needed, pls help)

Hi everyone,
I need advice on how to set up my home system in terms of using Dropbox, Hard drive usage and home networking.
Please bear with me while i explain my situation. I run my own Graphic Design business from a home office, I have an 27" iMac and i have a 13" Alu Late 2008 Macbook which i use for my work. I mainly work on my iMac most of the time and then use my macbook in evenings (in front of TV) and when out of the house/office. My iMac has a 1TB hard drive and my Macbook has a 160GB hard drive. I also have a 3TB Lacie external hard drive storing all of my files.
I have a Pro Dropbox account so i have just over a 1TB of storage there too. My plan was to use the Dropbox as my main file storage so it syncs all the files on bot macs and i don't have to waste time dragging files to different backups (i can also use files remotely when i am on my Macbook out of the office or downstairs etc), get a program like Crash Plan to make a backup of everything and then have a physical copy on my Lacie drive just to ensure i am safe every which way.
The problem i have is that my macbook's hard drive is only 160gb and as i use a lot of large files my dropbox just eats up my hard drive and i can't use all the files i have on my dropbox. I have tried to think of lots of ways around syncing but the way Dropbox works is exactly what i want to do. I have considered changing my plan and buying a TimeCapsule and use that as a home network then use Dropbox if i need anything out of the house. So i suppose my questions are:
Do i buy a TC and use that for my home network to save on hard drive space and mean i can work in any room but still sync?
Or, do i buy a new 1TB hard drive for my 2008 macbook so Dropbox can save on there and sync files?
Or, buy a new macbook pro (only problem is the new ones use a flash drive which won't hold the dropbox), i can really afford this option either at the moment?
Please help me out guys as i need things to just work as i am pretty busy and can't decide which to do to help me out...any suggestions welcome.

Once you boot a computer from SSD you will never go back to mechanical disks ... at least for boot.
Buy the biggest you can afford.. 500GB SSD are now around $270 here.. you don't need the best.. buy the samsung 840 evo. It might not last as long as the more expensive pro series but that does mean much for a 2008 laptop. You are stretching it already.
I have a 256GB SSD in a 2011 MBP 15" with a high res screen I got on ebay cheap. It is a great machine.. or was until i put Mavericks on it.. I will take it back to Mountain Lion when I get a chance. I run an i7 mini also 2011 with the small video card they had..

I just got another one of these with the original 750GB hard disk and it feels so so slow.. you end up totally spoiled.. everything opens and closes instantly in the mini with SSD and the other one is so so slow. It is getting the new 500GB SSD.
I have done a few of these now for friends.. it does end up costing more than a current model mini.. but other than missing USB3 which is a pity.. they are a great little computer. And with SSD only near totally silent.. it occasionally spins the fan up if it has been running hard for a while. I am getting old and grumpy and noisy rattling computer fans are more than I can stand.
I have done some research into the Seagate SSHD and it seems that it isn't ideal for people looking to crunch larger files which would probably be me
Yes, I warned you the SSHD is not much good for very large files.. Even so a modern 7200rpm drive should work a lot better.
Note the DVD drive will be sata 1 so yes the SSD should replace the current hdd.

Easy AS2 script btn advice needed pls,

I have a nav bar movie clip in a flash document imbedded as swf in an html page. I want the button on release to go to a particular frame of a flash timeline imbedded as swf in another html page.
The html page is in a different folder at the same level, so ../ works to get to the html page. But then I dont know how to drill into the flash time line from there.

then this isn't going to be the easiest thing for you. you need to:
1. use getURL() to open your other html page, append a query string to the url that indicates the frame you want to display in the other swf
2. add a javascript function to the other html page that returns location.href when called
3. call that javascript function from your other swf (using the externalinterface class) and finally
4. use preloader code in your other swf to ensure the needed frame is loaded and execute your goto to display the desired frame.

I have a macbook pro, c2d..and my question is as fallows.
For one, i am unclear about this upgrade for the macbook pros for the network cards, if someone could clearify that would be great.
I live in a building where internet is provided, i dont have access to the router. I do on the other hand have a pc desktop, and my question is; can i buy a wireless router and run that from my desktop (eventough there is already another router in the building), and if so, should i get the new ones offerd from apple....and upgrade that 'thing' in my MBP?
Any and all suggestions would be great!

Tristan, the answer to my question is on your PC, you don't need access to the building's router. If you check the network settings on your PC you have basically two ways of setting it up. You can set it up with a fixed IP address provided to you by the people of the building or your you can set it up to receive an IP address automatically, what is referred to as DHCP.
Those same settings are what you would use when you set up your wireless router as it will take the place of the PC. Then you will connect the PC to the router in which case you will set it up to receive an IP address automatically, it will get it from the new wireless router. The Mac will be set up similarly to use DHCP and get its address from the wireless router.
Like I said, you can buy any brand wireless router you want, they all follow the same standards that allow them to connect to 802.11b/g devices that the Mac can connect to. It is just that your newer MacBook Pro can use a new standard (802.11n) which is a higher speed and more reliable then the previous standards but the new standard has not been ratified yet. There is no guarantee that the MacBook Pro will be able to use this new standard with these other routers (it will fall back to the previous 802.11b/g if it can't.) I can guarantee it does work with the new Apple router as I have one working now. Your desktop PC will work with it also but since it will be directly connected using ethernet this is a non issue.

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!

Advice needed on buying iphone as gift

I went to apple store, they do not want to sell iphone to me unless I sign AT&T 2 years plan. I thought AT&T has locked the phone and users must subscribe in order to use it. Why Apple store still not allow me to buy?
Please advice, if I want to buy online iphone for my brother, do I or my brother have obligation to sign out AT&T plan?
One more advice needed, I found the shipment takes weeks, do I have option to arrange for self-collection?
My brother birthday is coming soon, I need above advice urgently.

Well that's not entirely true.
Apple Stores have been instructed not to sell you an iPhone if any of the following is true:
You state that you will not be signing up with AT&T.
You do not have an ID from a US state, also indicating you will not be activating with AT&T
You do not have a credit card
For example, I've seen US Apple Store managers refuse to sell iPhones to European residents because of the AT&T lock-in.

They are mutually exclusive. I run my bootable clones on an occasional basis although they can be scheduled. If you put them on one external drive, partition it so each has its own space.

Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

I believe that if you do a clean reinstall from your HD's recovery sector (D) or Recovery disks, the hard drive sector C is wiped clean. Everything goes, apps, data, address books, music, pix, viruses

That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.

PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

My Iphone is telling me the same thing. I have already removed all unneeded apps, pics, docs, & even saved photo stream and deleted pics from my phone. I have removed all of my music from the itunes sync process and in addition have checked and unchecked the box for the music sync. It has continuously shown that I do have more than enough free space available. After all of this I have 14.75 gigs free. I will now see if I can put music back and sync. Please let me know if you (or anyone else reading this) has found or has a solution. This is extremely frustrating after I worked so hard cleaning my 382 gigs of music with Tune up. Even though I had this app, it was still time consuming. Ugggg! Would love to see my music correctly on my Iphone but now this! Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me.
