Restore After Effects v.2.0.1 file

i'd like to restore an after effects project created in 1995. trying to open the file in cs4 i get the message: "this file was created with an older version of After Effects[2.0.1 (unknown)], and can't be opened. You can convert this file using an older version of After Effects and resaving."
so, what is the most recent version of After Effects that can reach back an open a version 2 file?
thanks in advance!

> currently i'm using cs4. how do i get you this file?
You can email it to me at kopriva -at- adobe -dot- com.
If we can, we'll convert it to an After Effects CS4 project and get it back to you. We need to dig up a machine with After Effects 4.1 installed; there should be one around here somewhere.
If you want to do us a favor in exchange, you can spread the word far and wide that we really, really, really want people to install the CS4 (9.0.3) and CS5 (10.0.1) updates.

  • After Effects error: Can't import file "(FILE TITTLE)" unsupported filetype or extension

Hello so I was working with AE3 for 2 years and i had no problems with it but.. when i reinstall my windows and install AE3 with same installation file as always i was using.. and  I got problem. When i try to import AVI or wmv or other video clips except mov format I getting this error "After Effects error: Can't import file "(FILE TITTLE)" unsupported filetype or extension".. i tried everything: 3 different installs of AE3 but nothing always same.. so decided this is windows problem so I installed new one  with SP3 but i got same problem then I tried it on SP2 but still same problem.. So i installed windows7 and my AE3 was working but i didn't liked a windows 7 and i back on xp SP3 and guess what guys? yes! i got same error again on AE3. I don't know guys what to do. Can you help me?

I assume that you mean "After Effects CS3". After Effects 3 came out more than a decade ago.
Do you have QuickTime Player installed? After Effects requires QuickTime to be installed to import some file types.
Could you be explicit about exaclty what files you have tried to import? Even giving file names might help. For example, this error has been seen when the characters used in the file name were non-standard characters (e.g., this thread).
When you re-installed Windows, did you also re-install any codecs that you may have previously had on the system?

  • After Effects error: Creating a resource file

    Hi everyone
I'm administrating a machine with several users mainly using After Effects. The machine runs on Windows 7 64 bit.
I recently had to install videocopilots Optical Flares. Everything runs fine on my admin account but if i open AE on a user account i get an error message while on the loading screen. It says:
After Effects error: Creating a resource file "c:insert path to OpticalFlares.aex here" (might be a bit different in english as i translated this from german)
Every user has full read and write permission on the AE support files folder. Has anyone ever had such an error? All other plugins work as they should on every account.
    Thanks for any hints!
    Michael

I still think it is a permissions/ user privileges/ policies/ security issue - if it runs on one account, it is unlikely the plug-in is damaged or you installed the 32bit version in CS5 or vice versa. I strongly suspect the plug-in is unable to probe your graphics card and thus never initializes. Perhaps it's being blocked by some security tool or your user account doesn't have the permissions to load system drivers. The latter can be fixed by changing the respective entry in your group policy editor (gpedit.msc). The respective point would be in Computerkonfiguration --> Windows-Einstellungen --> Sicherheitseinstellungen --> Lokale Richtlinien --> Zuweisen von Benutzerrechetn --> Laden und Entfernen von Gerätetreibern. And of course temporarily turn off security stuff to verify it's not the problem.

  • Please Help!!! After Effects has stopped importing .m2t files!!!

    Hi there,
I have run into a realtively urgent problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I am making a video in after effects cs4 for a client using footage captured in HDV split that show as .m2t files. I have edited with these files in after effect before, but now all of a sudden when I go to file -> import and select the file I get an immediate "After Effects error: Can't import file" ....."unsupported filetype of extension".
I also noticed it wouldn't let me import .mpg files however .mov files import no problem.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Thanks!! That fixed the problem. I'm not sure why when I searched for updates in after effects it didn't find anything.
Thankfully there are helpful people on adobe forums

  • Warning message when starting trial of After Effects: "Could not rename the file...in workspaces.

I am trying to download the trial version of After Effects, and it goes through the whole download process fine. But as soon as I try to launch the application, I receive the message "After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/Rebekah/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/11.0/Workspaces.35974.1407352380644801.xml' to 'workspaces.xml'.
What is causing this and what should I do? I've already tried uninstalling the trial and reinstalling it.
    Thanks!

Having a similar problem as I try to use After Effects CC for the first time. "After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/timmyd/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.583.1407351854988961.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.
When I navigate to the 12.1 folder, I see ModifiedWorkspaces and OriginalUserWorkspaces folders but no "/Workspaces.583.1407351854988961.xml".
Then I attempted to open a project in AE CS6 (haven't use AE at all in months), I get a simliar message as the project is loading.  "After Effect error: Can't overwrite file"/Users/timmyd/Library/Preferences/Adobe After Effects 11.0-x63 Prefs". ( 3 :: 3 )
When I click okay the project closes.

When I try to import my files from my Canon EOS 550D into AE it gives me this error-essage: "after effects error: can't import file unsupported filetype..." I recently updated my quicktime and stuff, but what should that do? I could import the files before though.

    5)Deleted the OpenGL file
    6)changed by screen resolution.

I have also been to the general specialist website already thank you very much.
Edit: Now i have also tried uninstalling quick time and all of the video codec packs on my computer, this also didn't help (i did remember to restart afterwards)
Edit: Also, i started a new thread because nothing in any of the other threads on this same or similar errors was at all helpful to me.
edit3: i might also add that i have after effects 6.5 and it works just fine, though its much older.

  • Adobe After Effects CC not converting all files from templates

Hello, I recently purchased Adobe After Effects CC, and i've been using Videoblocks.com for some After Effects templates. I've used them before on a different computer running AE CS6, and they work perfectly fine. However on my computer, it does not convert the files in order to be compatible with the CC Version, like this:
And when the project is opened, it appears like this:
As if the files never fully converted over, however some do? Any explanation on how I could fix this from not happening? Would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Mylenium, I reinstalled Quicktime and the problem still seems to be there. I'm not really certain what other Third-Party CoDec I should install/reinstall. It doesn't seem to retrieve some JPEG and PSD files, which I have Photoshop installed as well, so I don't exactly know what I should do.
I'm kind of new with the Creative Cloud, so apologies in advance, haha.

  • After Effects cc 2014, problem: swf files not supported

Hi, trouble with loading SWF file into After effects cc 2014, "format not supported" is the message. The same project is opened by another identic Macpro like mine...

  • After effects cc - Mp3 and wav file

I am having a problem with audio in after effects cc. I have added an mp3 audio file (narration) which works and sounds fine, however as i add another track (the music) and press ram preview an audio errors occurs on the new track.
I have tried changing between wav and mp3 formats however i am still getting the same problems.
    1. The audio jumps
    2. The audio seems scrambled, parts of the track play when they shouldn't (for instance when the introduction should be playing the 1st verse plays instead)
I am using - 64bit windows home premium,
What is causing this and how do i fix it?
    thanks

You have an issue with your audio hardware and AE is unable to get it to play and mix multiple audio streams in realtime. Update the driver, configure it properly. Otherwise apply a dummy audio effect to the layers to enforce rendering to memory instead of realtime playback.

  • After Effects error: Can't import file "Sweet CC Beta.jsx": unsupported filetype or extension.

Ok so here's the problem. I wanted to try the all new After Effects Sweets beta but when I try to open the file it just comes up with the error in the title. I am on a MacBookPro running Mavericks. Has anyone else had this problem?

You don't open a jsx file, you run it from the File>Scripts menu. Give that a try.

  • After Effects CS6: Canon .CR2 RAW files not recognized as acceptable files for import?

    HI Folks,
I'm trying to import as I've seen on tutorials, my RAW files from my Canon 5D3  .CR2 files.  I can open them in PS and LR5….and I'd seen examples of folks opening them with AE CS6 standalone, but it doesn't seem to recognize mine.
Any thoughts? Is there something I need to update, or flag or change?
    I'm on a mac, OSX 10.7.5
    AE verson: 11.0.4.2
This is what my import screen looks like:
    Thanks in advance,
    C

I read through those linked pages, but they didn't give me any solution.
After nosing around through a LOT of sites on Adobe's site (why aren't pages dated, took forever to find the most up to date or pertinent pages)…I found this one that was slightly related, but worked for me.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html
I had to download this zip, and manually place the plugin as directed, and now, After Effects CS6 will recognize my CR2 raw files from my canon 5D3.
Thank you for the help, it led me in the right direction, but the link above was the actual solution I found that worked!!

  • PLEASE HELP! Unable to render any Quicktime format - after effects error unable to open file (-1610153459)

I just can't render any type of Quicktime file in AE CC 2014. I'm on Windows 8.1.
Even in CS6 was it not possible, but I never really used any Quicktime filetypes.
Normally I just rendered to .h264, but now that's only available via the insane slow Adobe Media Encoder, I want to use the Quicktime -> h.264 option, but it's just not possible.
I also want to render some footage to the Avid DNxHD codec, but this is also not possible.
Doesn't matter what type of footage, dslr footage, pictures, AE solids. Everytime I want to render in a Quicktime file I get this error:
AE error: Rendering error while writing to file (File-Location). Unable to open file. (-1610153459)
Installed the latest Windows version of Quicktime, didn't help...
I saw some topics about this, but they didn't provide a good solution. All they discussed was the hardware of the computer. I have enough space available and render to a NTFS drive.
Please can someone help me with this!

Yes! I just solved my own problem. I still think that the internet doesn't provide an easy to find answer, so I will post this.
I had the latest version of Quicktime, but this version causes the problem. After some searching I finally found a page on the Apple website that confirms this.
Updating to QuickTime 7.4 may cause issues while rendering footage in Adobe After Effects - Apple Support
So I uninstalled my latest version of Quicktime and installed version 7.4.1. Everything works now the way it's supposed to!

  • Adobe After Effects CS6 and empty MediaCore file won't load...

I have just installed Adobe After Effects CS6 because CC was too difficult for me to learn but CS6 has it's own problems. When I launch the program it gets stuck while loading the "MediaCore" file. I went to find the file, but there was nothing in it. Why can't I use CS6?

This might do it: fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications

I just think the interface in CS6 is a bit easier.
I don't see much difference in the interface between CC 2014, CC, and CS6. Now, the CC 2014 update that's coming out in a month or so, looks somewhat different/better. But it doesn't matter what we think. What matters is that you are able to work. Although, if you could share what you find more difficult in CC (or CC 2014), perhaps we could help you get past it so you can enjoy the new features.

  • Mac after effects cs3 WONT RECOGNIZE .AEX FILES

    Hi,
I use a mac osx and I own a copy of Adobe After Effects. I have been playing around with it in the past few months and I have recently started installing plug-ins. The problem is, some of these plug-ins are .aex files, and when I put them in my plug-in directory After Effects won't recognize them. It will recognize .ffx and .plugin files, but not .aex. I have found out that .aex is for the PC version only and I think this is a very prominent design flaw because most plug-ins are in .aex format.
Is there any converter for .aex to .plugin? And will this problem be sorted in the next version of After Effects?
    Thanks,
    Reuben

PC and mac are completely different operating systems with different code requirements. There's no practical way for Adobe to write some kind of translator that will make PC plug-ins run in the Mac OS.
Some plug-ins are written for Power PC and not for Intel Macs. These also require different code. For plug-ins to work in both Intel Mac and Power PC Macs must be written in Universal Binary. This has nothing to do with Adobe and everything to do with the manufacturers of plug-ins.
If you're running on an Intel mac and want to use non intel plug-ins you'll have to run AE under Rosetta emulation. You do that by going to the applications folder and selecting Info for the AE app. You'll find a check box for Rosetta. This will make these plug-ins work, but AE won't run as efficiently and may not be as stable.
Most plug-in installers are aware of the OS and will not install on incompatible systems. In many cases installing a plug-in is more than just dragging the plug-in into the apps plug-in folder.
If you're copying from another system, one that you don't own, then you're violating licensing and most plug-ins will either run in demo mode with a watermark or will not run at all.
    Hope this helps.
