Restore an old Backup?

I was having problems with my iPhone so I restored it to it's Factory Settings, losing the final photos of my dad before he died.    I thought they'd be in the Pictures >> iPhone Backup or on iCloud, as I had upgraded my phone to iOS5.
Clearly they're not.  Is it possible to recover these somehow, ie, were they backed-up when my iPhone Synced to my computer?  Perhaps to a Hidden Location?  Can you restore from Backup and get these back?
Many thanks for any help or advice.

If you have backed up, then yes, you can restore.

  • Unable to connect to home wi-fi network after iPhone restores an old backup

For some reason when I recently connected my iPhone to iTunes, it restored an old backup from a few days earlier. Since then, I can no longer connect to wi-fi networks I previously connected to regularly, like my home and office networks. I have tried resetting network settings, rebooting the phone, forgetting the networks, etc. Nothing seems to work. I have no idea what else to do.
If anyone else is having this specific problem, please help me out.

The restore process don't restore the Wireless networks that you used to use... this is a security measure.

Can i reftieve them or not. and why doenst Apple provide such informaition to users for new restorations?

Same problem.  My wife lost her iPhone 3Gs while on vacation.  Purchased iPhone 5 on the trip and took pictures with it.  When we got back home I clicked restore from a previous backup and all the pictures disappeared.
I wonder if Apple is reading this thread. ?????????
NO... What did you expect the phone to do when you restore from a backup.
You should've imported the new pics to your computer as you would a digital camera..

So here's my problem. I just used the "reset all settings" option, and accidentaly restored an old backup. It deleted all my photos and contacts, but for some reason I still have all the apps from after the backup date, and it also kept the notes from after the backup. The "reset all settings" option clearly says no loss of data or media, so I don't understand why some stuff got deleted. My question is, is there a way to get it back?

If you still can find a recent backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, use this one to restore from.
If there are no recent backups listed, your data is gone. Only if you included the iTunes backup folder into your computer backup routine, you could be able to restore this folder and find one of your latest backups listed again.

  • Can you restore an old backup and a recent backup?

I am wanting to restore an old backup plus a current one. Can you do that from icloud?

Most stores will offer buy backs in either cash or gift cards toward later purchases. I recently did that for my 3rd gen 32gb to buy a new 64gb 4gen. I also got 80 bucks for mine from Best buy in giftcards. What specs are yours?

  • How can I restore a old backup of playlist / music from iPod v1 and iPod v2?

I got two old iPod v1and iPod v2. They are both working, well used, both of the got maximum HD sold at that time.
I looked at one of my old backup and I got the playlists and music. I remember I spent hours (weeks) converting CD's,  manually typing in data and creating playlists. It total I think it was 5000-6000 tracks or more.
Can restore these playlists and upload it to iCloud? I the playlist was created on the first few releases of iTunes. Since then my laptop have changed 3-4 times and I have not reinstalled iTunes. What is the best way of doing this? The old iPod's are still playing.... :-)

Also very strange is that I don't have the folder "MobileSync" in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync on my computer. I can't find that folder anywhere.
    Correct.
You need to go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/.
The ~ indicates your User folder not the top level /Library/ folder.
Click on the desktop, then hold Option and go to Finder menu Go and Library will be there (only when holding Option as it is hidden).

  • IPhone Restores From Old Backups.

Last night I had to do a restore on my 3 week old 3GS because during my update to the latest FW 3.1.2, it froze the installation process. Now, the part that's frustrating is again, it only gave me very old backups to choose from. I sync my phone every day because of my podcasts so I see when it says "backing up iphone". This is getting extremely frustrating because everything from my last backup that itunes is offering me is lost and not being restored. Can someone please shed some light on this issue?

    RESTORE from BACKUP...
Connect to iTunes... Right click on your iPhone in the devices list and choose "Restore from a backup...".
From there, you should be able to choose which backup you want to restore from.

  • New iPhone restored from old backup off iTunes but keeps telling me to "connect to itunes" after it's done.

    Hello-
I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone5s.  I was trying to set up my new iPhone.  I connected it to my Mac and iTunes and chose "restore backup from old phone".  It's now finished syncing but my iPhone keeps on telling me to "connect to itunes".  It's as if my new iPhone is not recognizing that restoring is done.  What do I need to do?
    Thanks for your help.

if the iPhone goes through the cycle again every time it is re-connected to your Mac, there is a problem with the old backup or with the new iPhone.
Try restoring the new iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup. If no problem after this, bingo.

  • How Do I Restore the Old Backups.backupdb in Time Machine. It Replaced It With a Reinstalled OS's Backup.backupdb But Time Machine Is Still Filled at 1.9TB of 2TB

Hi. I fresh installed Mavericks but I didn't transfer my files from Time Machine coz' I was going to do it manually with (folders like documents, pictures mainly) when it asked (before it lets you boot to the Finder) but as soon as I chose to let the freshly installed Mavericks use the Time Machine with the old backups, it replaced it with a new Backups.backupdb. The good thing is the old backups seem to still be there because, the freshly installed OS X is only around 11GB but the Time Machine is 2TB yet it's filled with 1.91TB (only 90GB freespace).
Is there a program to somehow see these old backups, so I can backup it manually copy and paste to their respective folders on the newly installed Mavericks? Or a Terminal command to make that possible, let me see the old back ups (I hope it's just hidden, retrievable)? I've switched off Time Machine for now coz' there's not much to back in the newly installed Mavericks.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

Thank you. It's all back to normal (took around 7 hours on the late 2009 iMac). Time Machine's become better now compared to the last time I used it to migrate everything automatically (Snow Leopard days). With Maverick's Time Machine, it's almost like a cloning (except for the password) tool now. But it's always great to name the account and maybe the hardisk the same names so can just replace a newly installed OS.
    God bless. Thanks again.

  • HT1414 How do you restore an old backup? The new one with the stuff I didn't need was backed up and overwrote my old one.

Pages wasn't working so someone told me to delete it and redownload it. Of course, our school told us not to use Cloud since there wasn't much space and now I lost most of my notes. I think I backed it up before I deleted it though but when I reconnected by iPad, it rebacked up everything and I don't know how to restore from previous backups. Help please!

You may not have any previous backups if iTunes overwrote the only backup that you have.
Launch iTunes on your computer (do not connect the iPad yet) and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Check the box at the bottom that says - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. You can also see if you have multiple backups for the iPad in that window. If you do - Click OK and quit iTunes. If you don't have another backup, just turn on auto sync again. There is nothing that that you can do if you don't have another backup.
Assuming that you did have another backup - connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Right click on the iPad name under devices and select - Restore from Backup. If you have multiple backups, you can select the one that you want from the drop down menu in the pop up window.

  • 5s: I restored an old backup with an invalid Apple ID. How to clear memory and start fresh?

I'm changing jobs, so I bought a new 5s to replace the 5 I need to return.  When I got home, I restored an iTunes phone backup that contained my old Apple ID - which is now invalid.  The 5s is now set up to "Find My iPhone", but linked to the old Apple ID.  How to erase the phone?  Can the carrier store (AT&T) do it?  Or should I go to the Apple Store?  Thanks in advance,  -ds

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately you cannot transfer purchases from one account to another.
Are you aware that the iCloud accounts and the iTunes accounts are different accounts, and that you can retain your iTunes account ID for iTunes and use your new ID for iCloud.

  • How to restore an old backup

I need to restore my iphone to a backup and Itunes only shows two choices, but in my apple folder, there are older backups stored there. I need to restore to one of the older backups that Itunes does not show as an option. How can I do this?
When I connected my iphone 4 to Itunes, it asked me if I wanted to update the software. I selected yes. After the update, all my data on the phone was gone. I tried to restore and it did not put the old data, contacts, ect, on the phone. So all I essentially have is a new iphone 4 with nothing on it except the routine stuff that is always on there. All my notes, contacts, pix, are unrecovered so far. I need help or else I will be in big trouble. Please speak to me very plainly. I am not tech savvy.

  • How can I restore an old backup from Time Machine to my iPhone 5?

I have the iPhone 5 that I had previously transferred my apps and other data to from my iPhone 4. Due to poor battery life, I had to restore the iPhone 5 as a new phone. This helped battery life but now I habve lost my text messages, App data and photos. I use Time Machine on my Mac so whayt do I need to do to get the data back on my phone. I'd like to do this without restoring the phone but rather syncing it with data recovered from Time Machine. I don't want to screw up the battery life again.

    Hi ...
I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.
    Hope this helps.
BTW - I found this out by reading the 'blue box' selection on this page: http://pondini.org/TM/E2.html
    (Thanks goes to Pondini!)

  • My new iPad has the wrong iCloud account (restored an old backup from previous iPad). It's pointing to an account that no longer exists and now I can't delete it because I can't log into it. Find my iPhone wants me to log in before deleting the account.

I have an old iPad2, and received a new iPad Air. When I set up the iPad Air, I started as a backup from the iPad2, instead of treating it as a new iPad setup. It also asked if I wanted to set up Find My iPhone and I said yes. Problem is that I also (previously) changed the primary email address on my iCloud account, but never changed the iCloud setup on my iPad. So now the iPad Air has iCloud pointing to the email address as the account name. I want to just delete this account and enter the new email, but Find My iPhone won't let me - it asks for my password first. Problem is, it won't accept the correct password because the primary email has changed.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
