Restore backup failiure

Hey
I restored my iPhone to factory settings, then when I tried to restore the latest backup - it said the bakcup fialed and was corrupt.
I've tried it a couple of times, tried restarting itunes etc, all to no avail.
I've then ended up without a useful backup at all.
I started out with a series of backups, one form a month ago, one from two weeks ago and one from this morning (which was failing).
Now all I have are the two old ones and then several from this afternoon (it seems to have taken bakcups every few minutes form my blank iphone).
I assume that the backup form this morning is lost, and I am restoring from the one two weeks ago.
If anyone can suggest a way to get the missing bakcup back and workign I'd appreciate teh advice - although I don't hold out much hope. I've checked the iTunes backup folder and there isn't a folder matching this morning's date and time (assuming the last few characters are the date and time).
I have to say that I've found the whole situation extremely annoying - I was diligently backing up my iPhone on the basis that, well, I'd have a backup. Now I've had to try and actually use my backup I'm having to use a backup that is two weeks out of date.
Coupled wiht the fact that app updates seem to break constantly (and the only solution I can find is deleting and reinstalling the app - losing all data) I'm finding the iPhone a less and less dependable device.

Stop SHOUTING!
If you are referring to the encryption passcode for the backup, there is no way to reset or remove the password.
Either the user remembers the password they set or the backup is useless.
If you did not set a password, the backup is corrupt.  Delete it.

  • I changed my iPhone lately but i can't restore my last backup since it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I don't know where to put the password to make it happen... Any suggestions?

    Hey guys,
I just bought a new iPhone but i can't restore my backup files beacuse it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I really don't know where to put the password to restore it. I really have some files that are meaningful for me so I really need help. Any suggestions anyone?

Select your iDevice in the iTunes.
Choose the Summary screen (tab) and scroll to the bottom of the screen.
    Then un-select Encrypt iPhone backup.
iTunes will then prompt you to “Enter the password to unlock your iPhone backup”, enter the password you set originally.

  • My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?
I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?
    Thank you all,
    Fahmid

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data.  However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup.  Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge.  This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.

  • Help please! Restore Backup deleted my most recent data

    Hi,
    Desparately need help please!
I accidentally deleted a note that was quite important, though not the end of the world if I lost it. Then I looked at iTunes and there's the 'Restore Backup' button under 'Backups'. So I thought, OK why don't I try click that and see if the note is in the back up.
But after clicking it, without asking for confirmation it just went ahead and restored my iPhone to a very old state. So my recent photos, notes, etc, now all disappeared! Only the apps appear to be merged - so my recently deleted apps came back and my existing ones are still there as well. I was hoping for the notes and photos the restore process would do the same but apparently not.
Is there any way I can revert this restore process so I can go back to the state before I did the restore?
Thanks in advanced for any help.

Just update your replacement phone to the latest iOS in iTunes.  (Connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Check for Update.  You may receive a prompt when you launch iTunes that an update is available; if so, update from there.)  When given the options, set it up as a new iPhone.
Then eject it from iTunes, disconnect it from your computer, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  You should be able to restore from your backup now.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger and this will take some time to finish.

That's up to you. Do you want the data on your old phone on your new phone? If so, you follow the directions here:

If you want to setup your new phone as a new device, then there is nothing you need to do.

My girlfriend synched her iphone 5 to itunes 6 months after purchasing it and wiped all of her data. Instead of clicking "restore backup", she chose "Backup now", which replaced the version we needed. Is there anyway of retrieving the data from that restore?

No, not unless she had a backup of the data she loss.

When I am restoring backup data for my iPhone 4 in the end of back up restore it show error message " back up can't be restored" , please advice what I can do to restore my backup

That usually means that there is something wrong with the backup and it cannot be used.  You can try restoring the backup again, but if you continue to get the same message all you can do is restore to a different backup, if you have one.

  • After restoring backup new macbook with time machine Firefox will not start. says missing profile

after restoring backup on new macbook with time machine Firefox will n to start. It says it is missing profile although profile exists and profile manager will not start. Also reinstalling does not help. Direct after starting Firefox it says profile is missing and then quits Firefox. Please help edit

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Unable to Supervise & Restore Backup. iOS 7-7.0.2 Configurator 1.4

I have just finished a deployment of 530 iPad 4's in the school where I work. Everything went fine with 6.1.3 and configurator 1.3. Since then, configurator has automatically downloaded and installed iOS 7... Which would be fine, if it worked.
I figured out all issues related to the activation and no longer have issues there.
The steps I go through are as follows:
    Supervise a device.
Make setting changes (like disabling keyboard clicks)
    Restore Backup
Prepare for new devices by enabling supervision, restoring backup, and selecting the profile from configurator to install
    Plug it in, and wait.
It fails every time at the "waiting for device to respond" stage. The error it gives is that the USB cable is unplugged. I have even elminated my hub and am trying to do this straght from the Macbook Pro.
I am also unable to revert back to iOS 6.1.3... I have tried everything on the internet listed and it still fails at the screen that says:
On top of all of those issues, the kids that have updated to iOS 7 are all having issues downloading apps... I made sure that my MDM is enabling installing apps... they can go to the app store, but when they download them it just says unable to download and gives the option of Retry or Done. Any advice for this issue?
Please help.. I have to make sure every kid has an iPad and can install the apps they need for school. I am just about out of options... APPLE... ANYONE??? Can I downgrade back to Configurator 1.3 somehow? HELP!

    Hi MrMeansMTA,
Yeah, there are a lot of issues that many of us in schools are experiencing. See this post for a collection of issues that we are hoping Apple will fix. You should add your issues to the list: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5379636?tstart=0
Regarding your attempt to downgrade to 6.1.3... unfortunately Apple has stopped signing all versions of iOS 6 for iPad. So even with a complete wipe of an iOS 7 iPad in an attempt to restore an old iOS 6 encrypted backup, a restore via iTunes will force the device to check in with Apple and the latest version of iOS 7 will install on the iPad. I've also tried importing an old ipsw file for 6.1.3 into iTunes and into Apple Configurator to try and force loading iOS 6.1.3, but niether iTunes or Apple Configurator will install it.
And with Apple Configurator even if you were able to downgrade to AC v1.3, it doesn't work with iOS 7...only v1.4 works with iOS 7. So unfortunately once an iPad is updated to iOS 7 we are all forced to upgrade AC to v1.4.
As far as the downloading apps issue, the times that I have seen this are when the app isn't compatible with the iOS version on the iPad. For example, an iPad on iOS 6.1.3 trying to download an app that only works with iOS 7 will get the "Unable to download - Retry or Done" message. I wonder if the opposite is happening in your case... where an app isn't iOS 7 compatible yet and they are trying to download a version for iOS 6 or earlier. On top of that, I would recommend the student try a "reset" (different from restarting) on their iPads (Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues).
Another possibility for this error could be due to your web filter settings. Did you attempt to block iOS updates with your web filter? You or your network engineer may have inadvertently blocked app installs. Check with your filter guy to see what the settings are.
Hope this helps. We're all struggling through this and feel your pain!! Good luck man.
    ~Joe

    Hi beckiewinter!
I have some information for you that may help you understand your iPhone's Activation Lock more thoroughly:
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818
So in order to update your iPhone, you may need to turn off Find My iPhone. This can be done through the iCloud settings, and more information on those settings can be found right here:

IF the photos were not on the camera roll they will not transfer over in a backup. If they are from ana lbum you will need to sync your iPad air to the computer that they came from.
If they are on the camera roll make sure you restored from the most up to date backup
