Restore Backup Issue

I was experiencing some trouble with my iPhone this morning, and I decided I should try and restore it to fix the problems I was having. I made sure I backed my device up to ensure that I would not lose anything valuable on my phone. Then I restored my iPhone. As soon as the restoring process had completed, I was asked if I wanted to restore my iPhone from a backup saved on the computer. I then clicked on the backup that I wanted to use. Then an error message popped up on screen saying I couldn't restore my phone from this back up because the software on my phone was too old?! So then iTunes proceeded to overwrite this extremely valuable backup of mine with a new completely blank and empty backup of the new restored phone. Is there anyway I can retrieve the old backup of mine? I tried ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup/ and it did not solve my issue....

Thanks for replying, I have 2 backups in this week, the last one (before formatting) restores messages in drafts, BUT the other backup (For 5 days ago) restore my messages to inbox an My Folder just like what I put it before.
I think that maybe there a problem in the backing up algorithm (coding).
Whatever, why I can't copy my messages from phone memory to memory card easily? Just select option>Copy to>To Memory card or something like that.
And why I can't show both my phone memory contacts and SIM contacts in same timeI think I can't open SIM contacts to!) Also about SIM messages?
(Maybe this is a old way to store your contacts and messages in SIM card but maybe I need to do that for any reason!)

  • 5800 Restore Backup issue!

Hi all, Recently I have my phone updated to the v40 (Really thanks for nokia people because I feel like to have a new device, Hope to keep going in the same way), My problem that after updating from Nokia Ovi Suite it works great but I wont to erase all data in phone (Format It), So I took a backup using Nokia PC Suite then format it by holding RED\GREEN\Camera buttons until the Nokia Shaking hands logo appears, After that I tried to restore my Data (Contacts,Notes,Messages,Calendar Enters) All of them was restored except messages I don't find them at Inbox but in drafts!
How to restore it to inbox folder ? And why this problem cased?

  • Restoring from Backup Issues

So I just purchased my new iPhone 5S today, and I am trying to get all of my text messages, photos, etc. over from my old iPhone 4S. The problem is that whenever I try and 'Restore Backup' from iCloud, it either says that the iCloud back has "corrupt data", or that "the iPhone has been disconnected". I also tried restoring from iTunes, but still the errors appear. I just recently set the phone up as a new phone so I could get pass the new phone scenarios, and I am still having problems. I don't know what to do and I am worried about losing all of my meaningful messages and pictures. Can someone help me out here?

You may have a defective phone. First make sure you have a really good data connection. If restoring from your computer use a USB port directly on the computer, not a USB hub. Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse. If this doesn't help it's probably the phone.

"ERROR - The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101)
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try again this operation."
If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
    "HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
    Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
    complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.

    Scot Pichelman

    Hi Scot,
Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
    after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
    1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
    2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.

  • Unable to Supervise & Restore Backup. iOS 7-7.0.2 Configurator 1.4

I have just finished a deployment of 530 iPad 4's in the school where I work. Everything went fine with 6.1.3 and configurator 1.3. Since then, configurator has automatically downloaded and installed iOS 7... Which would be fine, if it worked.
I figured out all issues related to the activation and no longer have issues there.
The steps I go through are as follows:
    Supervise a device.
Make setting changes (like disabling keyboard clicks)
    Restore Backup
Prepare for new devices by enabling supervision, restoring backup, and selecting the profile from configurator to install
    Plug it in, and wait.
It fails every time at the "waiting for device to respond" stage. The error it gives is that the USB cable is unplugged. I have even elminated my hub and am trying to do this straght from the Macbook Pro.
I am also unable to revert back to iOS 6.1.3... I have tried everything on the internet listed and it still fails at the screen that says:
On top of all of those issues, the kids that have updated to iOS 7 are all having issues downloading apps... I made sure that my MDM is enabling installing apps... they can go to the app store, but when they download them it just says unable to download and gives the option of Retry or Done. Any advice for this issue?
Please help.. I have to make sure every kid has an iPad and can install the apps they need for school. I am just about out of options... APPLE... ANYONE??? Can I downgrade back to Configurator 1.3 somehow? HELP!

    Hi MrMeansMTA,
Yeah, there are a lot of issues that many of us in schools are experiencing. See this post for a collection of issues that we are hoping Apple will fix. You should add your issues to the list: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5379636?tstart=0
Regarding your attempt to downgrade to 6.1.3... unfortunately Apple has stopped signing all versions of iOS 6 for iPad. So even with a complete wipe of an iOS 7 iPad in an attempt to restore an old iOS 6 encrypted backup, a restore via iTunes will force the device to check in with Apple and the latest version of iOS 7 will install on the iPad. I've also tried importing an old ipsw file for 6.1.3 into iTunes and into Apple Configurator to try and force loading iOS 6.1.3, but niether iTunes or Apple Configurator will install it.
And with Apple Configurator even if you were able to downgrade to AC v1.3, it doesn't work with iOS 7...only v1.4 works with iOS 7. So unfortunately once an iPad is updated to iOS 7 we are all forced to upgrade AC to v1.4.
As far as the downloading apps issue, the times that I have seen this are when the app isn't compatible with the iOS version on the iPad. For example, an iPad on iOS 6.1.3 trying to download an app that only works with iOS 7 will get the "Unable to download - Retry or Done" message. I wonder if the opposite is happening in your case... where an app isn't iOS 7 compatible yet and they are trying to download a version for iOS 6 or earlier. On top of that, I would recommend the student try a "reset" (different from restarting) on their iPads (Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues).
Another possibility for this error could be due to your web filter settings. Did you attempt to block iOS updates with your web filter? You or your network engineer may have inadvertently blocked app installs. Check with your filter guy to see what the settings are.
Hope this helps. We're all struggling through this and feel your pain!! Good luck man.

  • HT1766 How do I resolve the error "iTunes cannot restore backup because there is not enough free space on iPod"?

I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8gb and im having a time zone issue on it, so I just backed up and I want to restore from backup. When I try to restore from backup it tells me that there is not enough space on  my ipod to restore backup. I have 687 mb free, how much space does it need? I dont want to restore then restore from backup in case something goes wrong like this and I have to start all over. Id rather have the time zone issue than an empty ipod. How do i resolve this? please help!

Try moving/deleting from your iTunes libary apps and music which were on the iPod when the backup was made. When selecting apps, select the ones with app data that you can lose.

  • Even though iOS cannot restore backups of newer devices, can it restore data from an older device using 7.1.2 to a newer device using iOS8

iPhone 4s 16GB running iOS 7.1.2. Even though iOS cannot restore backups of newer devices, can it restore data from an older device using 7.1.2 to a newer device using iOS8

    Hi ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
         Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.
    Have a great day,
    -Joe

  • Time Machine not making restorable backups

I've been having a few problems with Time Machine - this began when I un-installed Boot Camp, having reluctantly had to invest in a full Windows PC - and discovered that both the utility and recovery system were unable to repartition the Hard Drive in my MBP back to full size. Currently, OSX effectively uses 380GB of a 500GB HD (less space taken by partitioning, recovery partition, etc...) I was particularly perturbed by the error thrown up by Disk Utility in OSX recovery that it was unable to dismount the HD for repartitioning, irrelevent the size I attempted to make the new OSX partition.
Having exausted options I was aware of then, I decided the safe option was to re-install OSX to the entire HD, restoring it from the Time Machine backup, but (checking that this was feasible before starting) I found that the last restorable backup Time Machine claimed to have was from 2011, about the time I moved from my previous MBP to this one. I reformatted the drive Time Machine was installed on, and setup the programme from scratch again to try and create a useable backup, but in spite of this it refuses to work properly - Time Machine claims to have backed up, but upon trying to use the backup the restore programme states it isn't there. For reference, I'm using a 1TB, FireWire 800 external HD for the backups.
At this point, I've run out of knowledge of how OSX works, and would really like some help getting things back on an even keel. Obviously, my major concern is that I'm not getting proper backups anymore, but I would also like to recover the space on my HD that's otherwise lost. Googling the problem led me to an issue which sometimes occurs that Time Machine can get flagged to ignore system files, but checking through Terminal it appears that that isn't the case (all it's set to ignore is my Steam folder, as that's all available online anyway.) Might anyone be able to help with this?
    Many thanks in advance.

This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including exclusions. The backups won't be affected. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy the file to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot and recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane. It will show that you have no backups. Don't worry; that's expected. Run a backup to test. The backup may take much longer than usual. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • IPad2 IOS 7 updated, now locked out, there is no password. Restore backup does not work. HELP

I updated my iPad2 to OS 7 last night and chose to NOT use a passcode because I have an important mtg today and didn't want any problems.
NOW... I am locked out of my iPad2 and spending two hours trying to get this resolved. My day is almost ruined now.
HOW DO I UNLOCK MY IPAD2 WITHOUT A PASSCODE ??????
I had a full schedule previously, and this is KILLING me. I connected my iPad2 to my computer and it synced. I cannot use "restore backup" because of find my ipad app. I cannot turn off "find my ipad" because I am locked out of the machine. I am SO frustrated and the lack of support is killing me as well.

The way to resolve this issue is to restore the phone. Now if you do not have a back up in iCloud or iTunes you will lose your content. If you backed up after the passcode lock was set up on the phone, you will have to choose to set up as new and lose all your content. Now iTunes will state that it cannot recognize or restore the phone as it has a passcode lock on it.
1)In order to get past this you will hold down the home and power buttons down at the same time.
2)When the apple symbol comes up on the device you will release only the power button.
3)Next an iTunes symbol, arrow, and usb cord will show up on the phone. At this time release the home button. 4)iTunes on your computer will prompt you with a message stating "iTunes has detected an "device" in recovery mode." You will click okay and then restore the phone.
5)Allow the download to process, times will vary.
6)Upon completion, go through the set up on the phone and pay close attention to the pages that you are on.
7)There will be a page prompting you to put in a passcode. You will have the option to skip it if you do not want it on your device.
    8) And finally, I have spoken with James and these are the steps to resolve the issue. Please do not call him as currently he is being overwhelmed with calls and stated that he cannot take calls from customers that he has not worked with already. Please feel free to send me any questions you have as I will also be able to provide you steps to resolve your issue.

  • ICloud says cannot restore backup

    Hi guys,
I need help. I was trying to restore my iPhone from an Icloud backup and all it says is "cannot restore backup". That's it, nothing else. I've tried the same backup on iOS 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 and it gives me the same error. How on Earth do I fix this.
im using a 5s over wifi and cannot see a reason for this to be happening. Please help

That error message doesn't give you much to go on.  Hopefully it doesn't mean that the backup is corrupt and cannot be restored.  You might want to just try again later in case it's a server issue at Apple's end.  Otherwise, you can contact support here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

  • Backup Issues/ Deleting "Other" Files

I recently replaced my iphone screen and afterwards I discovered that my camera roll had crashed. With it, I lost all of my pictures and videos. Luckily, I recovered them from a program that I had downloaded. However, the storage that used to take up my photos and videos on my phone had transfered to the "other" section on itunes.
Is the only way to remove/decrease the storage of the "other" file by restoring your iphone? I don't want to restore my iphone because I am also having issues with backing up my phone. Whenever I try to back it up on itunes, it says "the backup was corrupt or not compatable with the iphone". My phone has never been backed up because of this issue, so if I were to restore my phone then all off my files would be deleted. I have tried reseting my phone, but the "other" section is unchanged.
Is there anyway I can delete the corrupt files on my phone? I have tried removing all pictures, videos, apps, and music in an attempt to discover the source of the corrupt files but I haven't found them.
Also, if I was to "restore backup" with my iphone from my ipad, would that mean losing my messages?

You will need to restore your iPhone to decrease the size of other.  The issue that you are having is that your iPhone is unable to complete the back up process.  Have you did any troubleshooting on that issue?
Take a look at this link, http://appletoolbox.com/2012/04/iphone-could-not-backup-because-backup-file-was- corrupt-or-not-compatible-fix/

  • ITunes 10.5 very slow syncing with idevices not a backup issue

I have the latest itunes 10.5.2 installed on my 32 bit Windows 7 pc.  Ever since i upgraded my ipod 4 and iphone 4 to ios 5 it syncs very slowly with itunes (1 song aka 5 mb every 2 min and takes like 7 min to start syncing). i have tried restoring my phone and ipod with a new profile, making my ipod or iphone backup to icloud so that kills the long backup issue, reinstallled windows and just have itunes, reinstall itunes and wipeout the appledrivers then reinstall.  The devices sync fine when i use a mac that isnt mine. i also have tried outher windows pcs with no luck. im out of ideas and im tired of wating 4 hrs just for a audiobook or a movie to sync.

Yeah seriously, I have my first gen iPhone and never had a issue with it. Blackberry always had a horrible desktop manager for the PC for YEARS and I always had to debug the issues myself for clients. Unfortunately for a lot of my clients the Blackberry is a better device for business, just horrible desktop software.
Eventually I'll push my client to move over to hosted exchange server, But for right now before making that push, I need to resolve this issue with the Blackberry sync. I would hate for all the work and conversion over to the Mac to be wasted over a simple issue that possibly can be resolved by a simple setting I'm over looking.
It's also a possibility the extremely slow syncing can be caused by years of unorganized entering of contacts, but trying to sort out over 2000 contacts would be near impossible for a person with a busy schedule.

  • New Base Backup Issues

I recently purchased the K210 after researching prices and specs and think I have what should be a pretty sweet machine. However, after about 8-10 days of operation I was getting frequent create new base backup message until it reached the point that about 5 minutes after creation I would receive the message again. I am on 56K internet connection and it required almost a week to completely download all the files that Windows Update considered important. Upon checking the system I discovered that the service partition was almost completely full, 27 out of 30G. Being brand new at all of this I did something wrong but was able to restore factory settings. I am now afraid to download windows updates for fear of the same problem. I currently ignore the request to create base backup. What I need to know is if I was doing something wrong...Should the service partition become that full so quickly? I have never owned a machine with the service partition so I need to know how to access or store files on D directory. The only supplemental program I have added is a Lexmark printer which was recognized and operates correctly. Hope I asked the right questions. Excuse my newness!!!
When all is said and done, there is nothing left to say or do...

    Hi Fishoutofwater
You could see if tech support can help as this issue can have so many solutions depending on your PC build and your version of onekey, the way your OS is configured. etc.
It may also be helpful to search these forums for all info about base backup issues.
There is a 3000 system discussion thread, about onekey recovery and the lenovo recovery system.
Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost is a way to do an image backup, you most likely want to get your base backup and recovery system working as Lenovo has set it up. (onekey).
Again, It may be helpful to search the forums threads or google for for "lenovo one key recovery"  "Lenovo recovery" "lenovo base backup" , and then talk to to tech support.
    Good Luck.
