Restore Backup/Lots of Missing Stuff

I had to restore my iphone today ( for reasons which are an entirely other can of worms). I regularly backup my phone and did so this morning before restoring it. After trying to restore from my last backup I had the following issues:
every photo from my carmera roll gone (even after restoring from icloud).
All email accounts gone.
some playlists gone
Apps arranged not as they were
Messages gone
phone favorites list gone
lock screen image not the same
HOmepage background different
I have the missing photos in iphoto, so not really a big deal and I can straighten out most of these issues. However, I am left wondering what the issue is here? When I purchased a new ipad and used the backup from my old one to restore on the new one, no problems, everythig where it should be ( I concede that I may have had to re enter my email accounts). Any help or advice would be most appreciated. thanks.
I should note that I am (and was) using the most up to date verion of iOS.

Click Tools > Options in the tree view on the left and select Display in the Options/General branch.
Under Performances tab, set the following:
Deselect Occlusion Culling Enabled in the Occlusion culling area.
Select High (Alpha blending) in the Transparency quality area.
Select Enable OpenGL Local Viewer Lighting in the Miscellaneous area.
Deselect For Standalone Faces in the Enable Back Face Culling area.
Deselect For Faces Belonging To Solids in the Enable Back Face Culling area.
Deselect Display All Elements Using Z-buffer Depth under Visualization tab in the Depth Display area.
Please double check that you get the same configuration, it should fix your problem

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

ITunes doesn't restore backup with iOS 7

I have an iPad 2 Wifi 16GB with iOS 7. I made a backup yesterday, then restored the iPad and I tried to restore all data from backup. iTunes says "restoring backup to iPad", then the iPad reboots and iTunes says that the backup was restored, but the iPad shows the set up guide, so the backup is not restored at all. I also had a lot of photos in my backup and I don't have them in my iPad after restoring the backup, so iTunes restored nothing. What should I do?

Unable to Supervise & Restore Backup. iOS 7-7.0.2 Configurator 1.4

I have just finished a deployment of 530 iPad 4's in the school where I work. Everything went fine with 6.1.3 and configurator 1.3. Since then, configurator has automatically downloaded and installed iOS 7... Which would be fine, if it worked.
I figured out all issues related to the activation and no longer have issues there.
The steps I go through are as follows:
Supervise a device.
Make setting changes (like disabling keyboard clicks)
Restore Backup
Prepare for new devices by enabling supervision, restoring backup, and selecting the profile from configurator to install
Plug it in, and wait.
It fails every time at the "waiting for device to respond" stage. The error it gives is that the USB cable is unplugged. I have even elminated my hub and am trying to do this straght from the Macbook Pro.
I am also unable to revert back to iOS 6.1.3... I have tried everything on the internet listed and it still fails at the screen that says:
On top of all of those issues, the kids that have updated to iOS 7 are all having issues downloading apps... I made sure that my MDM is enabling installing apps... they can go to the app store, but when they download them it just says unable to download and gives the option of Retry or Done. Any advice for this issue?
Please help.. I have to make sure every kid has an iPad and can install the apps they need for school. I am just about out of options... APPLE... ANYONE??? Can I downgrade back to Configurator 1.3 somehow? HELP!

Regarding your attempt to downgrade to 6.1.3... unfortunately Apple has stopped signing all versions of iOS 6 for iPad. So even with a complete wipe of an iOS 7 iPad in an attempt to restore an old iOS 6 encrypted backup, a restore via iTunes will force the device to check in with Apple and the latest version of iOS 7 will install on the iPad. I've also tried importing an old ipsw file for 6.1.3 into iTunes and into Apple Configurator to try and force loading iOS 6.1.3, but niether iTunes or Apple Configurator will install it.
And with Apple Configurator even if you were able to downgrade to AC v1.3, it doesn't work with iOS 7...only v1.4 works with iOS 7. So unfortunately once an iPad is updated to iOS 7 we are all forced to upgrade AC to v1.4.
As far as the downloading apps issue, the times that I have seen this are when the app isn't compatible with the iOS version on the iPad. For example, an iPad on iOS 6.1.3 trying to download an app that only works with iOS 7 will get the "Unable to download - Retry or Done" message. I wonder if the opposite is happening in your case... where an app isn't iOS 7 compatible yet and they are trying to download a version for iOS 6 or earlier. On top of that, I would recommend the student try a "reset" (different from restarting) on their iPads (Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues).
Another possibility for this error could be due to your web filter settings. Did you attempt to block iOS updates with your web filter? You or your network engineer may have inadvertently blocked app installs. Check with your filter guy to see what the settings are.

HT1766 how do i get to a restore backup from earlier today that was accidentally overridden?

I accidentally restored my iphone back to factory settings and cannot get back to the restore backup that happened at 9:25 this morning because when i was trying to figure out the password, i accidentally overrode the backup. I'm freaking out. i use this phone for work but also have a lot of photos on it that i had not yet taken off. HELP ME!!!!!

IF the photos were not on the camera roll they will not transfer over in a backup. If they are from ana lbum you will need to sync your iPad air to the computer that they came from.
If they are on the camera roll make sure you restored from the most up to date backup

Cant restore backup as ipod disconnects

Hi. I took a backup of my ipod through iTunes and saved on Laptop. I factory reset but I cant restore backup to ipod as I get a pop up error "ITunes could not restore the ipod 'name' because the ipod disconnected". Has anyone any idea why it is disconnecting or how to stop it? Many thanks.

- Try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Using Configurator 1.7.1 and every time I try to update a supervised iPad, Configurator treats it as a new device, restores it and wipes it clean. I have it set to "Do not restore backup."

We are a 1:1 iPad school with iPad 2. I'm trying to update iOS to 8.2 and updating all apps as needed. When I plug in a previously supervised iPad, Configurator immediately goes into restore mode and wipes it clean and sets it up ready to "prepare" even though I've chosen "do not restore backup."
Because of this the student loses all their data on the device and I have to go back and set up email accounts again. Although I've had trouble with Configurator in the past, I've been able to figure out solutions but this one has me stuck.

This is might because of your prior change in softwares. so first you have to do run '''sfc''' in run command. and then you see the specific problem which causes this . Since System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
* Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
* Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
* In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
sfc /scannow

Device dead, need to restore backup files from Palm 515 desktop software to Centro desktop software. Can it be done??

Ok, here's the story: My palm515 died about a year ago and since then I've been operating exclusively from my desktop software, until I recently bought a Palm Centro. Instructions said to hotsync to device, install new Centro Software, then hotsync back from device onto the desktop program. Problem is, I don't have a device to hotsync to because it's dead! I have backups of desktop, so I tried installing Centro Software per instructions. Centro Software said that it couldn't overwrite the old program, that I would manually have to uninstall it. Ok. But when I tried to go back into my old desktop software, it wouldn't even execute, like the Centro software had already begun to delete it. So I reinstalled the old 515 software thinking I wanted to at least do another triple-dog-check backup to two different locations, maybe even print stuff out in case it woudn't restore to the new software. Worst case scenario I have to type everything back in but at least I still have it. But now i can't figure out how to restore backup files to the 515 software! It keeps looking for .ada files but the backup files are .bak and it won't recognize them. How the heck do you restore a backup on this thing! OR, can I just install the new Centro software and restore the files from there.
Somebody PLEASE tell me how this can be done. My entire life, my business, all my clients, my appointments, my phone numbers, addresses, my records for my taxes, EVERYTHING is in there!

Assuming you are not running Vista, and that you have copied the User folder with the .dat and .bak files to a safe location outside the Palm folder, completely uninstall the Access Desktop that came with your Centro and download and install 4.1.4e from Palm's download page.
If you can get the m515 data in there by copying the User folder or Importing Data and sync the Centro you should be fine. Once it all appears where it should (Desktop and Centro) you can delete the User folder copy you copied for the process.

IPhone "Cannot Restore Backup"

Hi,
Long story short, I updated my iPhone, it cashed.
Try to restore it using backups from iCloud, I get the message "Cannot Restore Backup" from all 3 backups.
Try to restore using PC, either crashes or restores phone but with nothing (except the default apps) on it, not a thing.
Is there a way to download my iCloud backups to try with those ones? Because the backups on my PC are quite oldish.

The weird thing is, i've got my pictures and videos back from this date and my settings are in order just lerally no apps I downloaded since i've had the phone.
Plus the backup is like a month old so other things i've lost, e.g. contacts and stuff.
Not a huge deal, just wondering what I can do?
Is there a problem with the phone?
Is it worth taking to a Apple store?

Restore Backup problems

So 4 days ago , i backed up my info and everything from my iPhone 4S to my computer on itunes , i bought a used iPhone 5 and now i wanna put back all my sutff that i have from my 4S onto my 5 but it wont even let me. Im really mad , it says that the software is too old because this iphone 5 is on iOS 7.1.4 and it wont let me get my stuff from 6.1.3 , if i made sense , can someone please help me !? i dont wanna lose my stuff. Like a notification pops up and says that you have to make this iphone as a new one and then i could do it but i cant . it doesnt let me . it wont appear on my Restore Backup List what should i do ? go to Apple and see if they can help me ?

iOS 7 has not been released except to developers, so if you are not a developer you have an illegally obtained copy of beta software that is quite buggy. You are out of luck; no one can help you here. If you ARE a developer you have information sources that can help you but this forum is not one of them.

hi to all , yesterday i made upgrade my iphone 3Gs from fw 3.01 to 6.01 , with before backup in itune at the end of upgrade and at the end of restore backup in itune , i have message error message because iphone is not connected (but is not true) , and after synchronization of iphone i have contact and notes , but i have not photo , sms , email and configurations account mail , can you please what's is the problem and if i can restore only photos or sms , i've looked in folder library>mobilesync>backup , and i have many files .mdinfo and .mddata , can I restore from its the photos and others ?

Keep in mind - you may not need to nuke your APEX 3.1 installation. It may be as simple as installing these missing dependent components.

Its possible to restore backup to Z10 when blackberry ID was recreated ...
(erased and create another one with the same email). I'vo got backup file created via Blackberry Link
but restore personal user data isn't possible, user find old password for blackberry ID in which backup was created.
All data from old phone was copied via outlook sync or directly from device mass storage ... I want to restore data from app "Password Protection" , Is it possible to extract only this data from backup ... or restore original user blackberry id ... to proceding restore data from backup to phone ...

This scenario isn't clear .... backup was made 2 months ago ... blackbery id for example [email protected] ...
user miss his password for id ... cannot restore it and delete original blackberry id ... which was used to crypt backup file ... Mobile phone was erased ... because change BB id isn't possible ... than BB id was created on the same email ... phone was sync with BES server. I can restore backup but data which was directly linked to blackbery id wasnt restore on the phone ... I readed in other source that backup was crypted by key assigned to blackberry id ... i think thats the reason ... But missed data from personal part of backup its very important ... that i think with recovered original id i can restore backup data on the phone ... if it wasn't good way to recover data maybe its another one ...

Select your iDevice in the iTunes.
Choose the Summary screen (tab) and scroll to the bottom of the screen.
Then un-select Encrypt iPhone backup.
iTunes will then prompt you to “Enter the password to unlock your iPhone backup”, enter the password you set originally.

The iCloud backup includes most things except non-iTunes purchased but the iTunes backup does not include those either. For what iCloud includes see:

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?

I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data. However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup. Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge. This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.
