Restore backup piece from tape to disk?
Hi,
Is it possible to restore rman backup piece from tape to disk? Please advice.
Thanks,
Is it possible to restore rman backup piece from tape to disk? Please advice.I dont think so it is related with ORACLE database to copy backup pieces from tape to disk.
You might have any other vendors like veritas, Symmetrix & all. We backup an Oracle database via the TDP application to tape

Restore backup pieces from tape to disk
Hello,
I want to restore the backup pieces from tape to disk. Is there any way of getting those bacup pieces to disk.
I have contacted storage team, that they can't copy the files, only through rman utility the files can be used.
I just need to restore the files from tape to disk. No, need to restore the database. I just need this for future purpose...
Thanks,
Ramesh GYou can try to use LIST BACKUP to get the backup piece name and then use Veritas tool to restore the backup piece from tape to disk.

Restoring Backup piece on tape from FRA without RCAT using ASM
DB: 10.2.0.3
ASM: 10.2.0.3
Nightly, I have a job that backups the FRA of a 10203 DB to tape using RMAN. The FRA is on 10203 ASM. The tape is loaded, and the channel is allocated. What i'm trying to do is re-catalog the backup piece to the non default location (Disk). IE - I want to get the backup off of tape (I can only use RMAN to do this) and back onto disk and use it for Restore and Recovery...I thought it would be something as simple as specifying a non default location to restore it to but that's not working. I wonder if I have to change the db_recovery_file_dest first and then try it....any one try this before? thanks. You should be able to restore from tape to ASM then perform the following:
RMAN> backup backupset <backupset_key> format '<disk_directory_path/format>'; -
Rman restore backup pieces to a location
Dear all,
10gr2p4 on solaris
We are in the process of duplicating a RAC database to a single node
We have all our RMAN backups to tape using veritas backup. Is there anyway I can restore the backup pieces from tape to disk on the (node where I need to duplicate)
then using CATALOG command to catalog this backup pieces and start duplicating manually . Can I restore rman (backup pieces) in the file system of the test node ?
Please guide
KaiYou can try to use LIST BACKUP to get the backup piece name and then use Veritas tool to restore the backup piece from tape to disk.

RMAN recovery from tape and disk?
Hey Guys,
Here is my scenario: -
I have Oracle 10g and I am using RMAN to backup to disk and then I use Networker to backup on tapes from disk (retention is set to 30 days on tapes). On RMAN - my retention policy is set to recovery window of 5 days after which it deletes the obsolete backup from disk and updates the control file.
My Questions:
1. If I have to recover any datafile or tablespace 20 days ago how can I restore it on Production. Since I am also backing up control files on tapes but my current control file will not have 20 days old information. Is there any way that I can restore my old backup?
2.How can I test my tape backup which is older than 5 days. In other words how can I restore my database from tape on another server/
Please suggest. If you need to restore the whole database to a point in time that is 20 days old, you "only" need:
1. to identify the right control file backup
2. restore this control file backup with Networker
3. start the instance in mount mode
4. list required datafiles and archived redo logs backup sets listed in this control file with LIST BACKUP
5. restore these backup sets with Networker
6. restore and recover database with RMAN with the right SET UNTIL clause.
If you need to restore only 1 tablespace, that's Tablespace Point In Time Recovery (TSPITR) and is another story.
I don't think you can only restore 1 datafile that is 20 days old and leave other datafiles up-to-date (unless there is only 1 datafile in the tablespace and in this case this is TSPITR). -

For example : if the bkp pieces of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/bkp' then the same locaiton must be created on standby
if the archivelogs of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/arch' then the same location must be created on standby

Hi
I need to restore archive logs from the tape. I am pretty new on this, do i have to go brtools and restore the archive logs or there is a t code in sap that I can recover from that? if it is using brtools, what is step and procedure? do I have to use sqlplus? while I am doing this type of recovery, do I need to shut the dabase down?
please share
thanksWei,
You can restore redo logs from below command.
brrestore -a <start_log#>-<end_log#> -c -d util_file -r <Oracle_Home>\database\initSID.utl
If you want to do a restore & recovey you can go for point intime recovery. Here You need to restore online backup & then additionally need to apply redologs which were generated after the online backup.
Check below link for details.

Will RMAN remove invalid backup pieces from Backup tests?
DB Version: 10.2.0.4.0
Thinking that Level1 backups don't take much time, In production, I was testing a Level 1 bkp (I took a level 0 bkp of our 700gb only yesterday).
But, the end users were complaining that system has become very slow. So, i've cancelled the LEVEL 1 backup.
Now i can see 5 backup pieces wasting some space.
I know that RMAN removes expired backup like
delete expired backup; But, how do i script RMAN to remove files mentioned above ie.files from a backup that was aborted halfway through ?Hi Insignificant
But, how do i script RMAN to remove files mentioned above ie.files from a backup that was aborted halfway through ?If you can locate them on the OS level you could remove them with OS commands.
For backup pieces containg datafiles use <crosscheck backup;> followed by <delete expired backup;> with rman client.

Ok, here's the story: My palm515 died about a year ago and since then I've been operating exclusively from my desktop software, until I recently bought a Palm Centro. Instructions said to hotsync to device, install new Centro Software, then hotsync back from device onto the desktop program. Problem is, I don't have a device to hotsync to because it's dead! I have backups of desktop, so I tried installing Centro Software per instructions. Centro Software said that it couldn't overwrite the old program, that I would manually have to uninstall it. Ok. But when I tried to go back into my old desktop software, it wouldn't even execute, like the Centro software had already begun to delete it. So I reinstalled the old 515 software thinking I wanted to at least do another triple-dog-check backup to two different locations, maybe even print stuff out in case it woudn't restore to the new software. Worst case scenario I have to type everything back in but at least I still have it. But now i can't figure out how to restore backup files to the 515 software! It keeps looking for .ada files but the backup files are .bak and it won't recognize them. How the heck do you restore a backup on this thing! OR, can I just install the new Centro software and restore the files from there.
Somebody PLEASE tell me how this can be done. My entire life, my business, all my clients, my appointments, my phone numbers, addresses, my records for my taxes, EVERYTHING is in there!
thanks,
meg
Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)Assuming you are not running Vista, and that you have copied the User folder with the .dat and .bak files to a safe location outside the Palm folder, completely uninstall the Access Desktop that came with your Centro and download and install 4.1.4e from Palm's download page.
If you can get the m515 data in there by copying the User folder or Importing Data and sync the Centro you should be fine. Once it all appears where it should (Desktop and Centro) you can delete the User folder copy you copied for the process.
