  • How can I restore bookmarks to Safari?

I accidentally synced my wife's MB Air to my iCloud account and wiped out her Safari bookmarks and her contacts. How can I restore them? Her machine is backed up with Time Machine so I imagine I can use library files/plist to restore, but don't know which file to use, etc.
    Thanks,

so I imagine I can use library files/plist to restore, but don't know which file to use
    You're on the right track...
    Using Time Machine...
The file you need is Bookmarks.plist located in ~/LIbrary/Safari

    Thanks for any help.

One way to add Facicons back is to visit those sites again.
It is time consuming if you really want to have all those back.

  • Lost all my bookmarks in safari (fixed)

When I last looked (Dec 23), all my many bookmarks were in Safari. I looked this morning, and they're all gone
I checked on my iPhone and that's the same -
    FIXED IT
I ended up restoring from a Christmas Day backup of my iPad.....a rather convoluted way to do it as I had to completely reset my iPad which means I have to reinstall all my apps (it'll do it automatically, but it's a long process). Would be SO much better if you could choose what you want to be restored from iCloud.
But it restored all my safari bookmarks on the iPad, which then filtered down to my mac and iPhone.
    PHEW!!!

    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar
    2. Hold the Safari app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Safari
    4. Re-launch and test Safari

  • Attempting to open bookmarks, hangs Safari

Strange issue. Safari runs fine until I attempt to open the bookmarks. Safari will sit with spinning ball until I force quit. I can add new bookmarks. When I found the bookmarks folder, I can launch to all of the sites by double clicking the entry.
I have run a check of the disk and the permissions. I found a topic describing similar situation having to do with languages. I turned off all but English, but no help.
    Any indeas????
I am wondering if there is a way to delete the bookmarks from safari and rebuild them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the file and trashed it (after moving a copy to another drive). Upon restart my bookmarks bar reverted to the default, but when I attempt to open all bookmarks, I get the same result.
I was beginning to think it might be related to the latest security update and thought about restoring using time machine to get back prior to the update. When I tried to open the time machine preferences, I encounter the same problem.
I can enter time machine, just not the preferences. Obviously it is not just a safari issue.

  • Bookmarks in Safari gone

Help! my bookmarks in safari on macbook are gone for some reason... is there any way to restore them? and i do not have the time machine backup :/...does the system somewhere keep these files?????

I also lost all of my bookmarks after the ios6 upgrade on my 4S  Not only that, but when I try to add a bookmark it won't add it to the bookmarks section.  So frustrated that this new ios6 is so buggy.  I am also having trouble connecting with my wi fi despite multiple solutions suggested in the other forums, but that's another story.  Apple needs to get their act together.

  • How to fix lost bookmarks in Safari on my iMac?

How do I recover my lost bookmarks?  I've gone thru all the fixes posted at different support sites and nothing has worked.  I started rebuilding my bookmarks and then lost those.  This happens without a reboot or shutdown.

    Using Time Machine restore:
    com.apple.Safari.plist
You can find this file in:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
If you do not have a backup then they're gone.
The easiest method to do all this is:
Open a Finder Window - Go Menu - Click Go to Floder.. and copy and paste:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    tap the enter key
Open Time Machine, go back to a time  you know the bookmarks were there and restore.

  • Need Help Restoring Bookmarks

I had to hard Reboot my mac after Finder had froze on me while coping files from one external saving device to the next (and has happened to me in the past week) now all of my bookmarks on safari have reset to it's defaults with the exception of my top sites. while I found the bookmarks on the metadata folder I have 66k bookmarks and I don't want to bunch all of them in a single folderas well as i'm afraid that adding a bookmark now will erase the whole file (so I copy and pasted it elsewhere). is there any way to restore my bookmarks (folders and all) back on safari

    HI,
If you exported the Safari.Bookmarks.html to an external source just open Safari, from the Menu Bar click Safari / Import Bookmarks. Navigate to the Safari.Bookmarks.html file and click Import.

  • Lost bookmarks in Safari

For some reason I have lost all the bookmarks in Safari. I have tried to restore Safari from TimeMachine but I still don't get the bookmarks. Are these stored somewhere that I can retrieve them? If so how?

    You've probably tried it but . . .
Right click on Find in the Dock and select bookmarks ?

  • TS4036 Restore bookmarks

I got up this morning and all my bookmarks in Safari are gone.  I know they are backed up in iCloud but, I don't know how to restore them?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your bookmarks are synced on iCloud if you have selected Safari on System Preferences > iCloud, so it will keep the same bookmarks on all your devices. However, you can't restore older bookmarks

  • Losing the bookmarks in Safari since I am using Mountain Lion, why?

Losing bookmarks in Safari since I am using Mountain Lion, why?

I too am having this problem.  I have Bookmarks sync enabled for iCloud.  Do you have that enabled as well?
I have been restoring my bookmarks from time machine backups and have exported them out.  I am wondering if I import in the bookmarks into the new file that keeps getting created if that will make this work.  My original bookmarks file is about 1.9 MB.

  • After updating to ios 6 all my bookmarks in safari disappeared!

After updating to ios 6 on my iphone 4 all my bookmarks in safari disappeared (in addition my earlier problem with access to my inbox!!). Why does this happen and is there any way to restore them? (And why should I have to spend my time solving problems caused by Apple when I payed that much for my phone???)

I now realise that there is no option to add bookmarks in my safari! Seems I have look for a nuce Android tomorrow! Sorry about the whining but I get so frustrated!

  • How do i restore bookmarks on my macbook

how do i restore bookmarks on my macbook

Two or more users are synchronizing Safari with iCloud while signed in with the same Apple ID. At least one should sign out of iCloud in its preference pane and sign in with a different ID. If you want to keep sharing the same ID, uncheck the box marked Safari in the preference pane.

  • After restoring bookmarks from Time Machine, iCloud keeps changing them back.

Is there a way to force iCloud to choose the bookmarks from safari on my computer?
When I turn on Safari sharing in iCloud, it merges, and messes things up.
I'm running latest Yosemite and iOS8 on all devices.
    Thanks!

Thanks Linc. I just tried it. Turned of Safari sync on all devices, but when I turn on Safari sync on my computer to start things off, it's still getting the old data from somewhere. Maybe it's storing it in the cloud and I need to delete that data somehow? I definitely turned off sync on all possible devices.
Thanks for helping! I really appreciate it.
