Restore bookmarks to a certain Firefox (ESR) Sync state

Dear all,
at my (Win7x64) notebook which I use mainly for work I use the Firefox ESR.
I use the FF Sync just to backup my bookmarks, add-ons, passwords, ... just everything.
My Laptop with this setting was in use almost every day for about 1 year until the end of July 2014. Firefox updates I think was done regularly.
Then in August 2014 I was on vacation. My employees IT department want to use this time to set up my Laptop with Windows 8.1. This was done and at present I have a default FF ESR 24.7.0 Installation.
Because there are no other devices which I synced so far I had to click on something like "lost my device" to log in to my existing account and set up the Sync settings. Everything is checked to sync but my FF do not change anything. I have no bookmarks, no add-ons and my passwords I miss as well.
How is it possible to get the FF ESR Sync state of the end of July to my current FF? Where are my synced data?

'''.old''' to it. Now right click in the folder and select '''Paste.'''
The file you just pasted here, rename it to '''bookmarks.html.'''

I am trying to restore bookmarks to a new firefox from an .sqfile but it will not restore?

I have a customers computer whose hard drive died on them and I was able to find the places.sqfile that is the bookmarks file but I cannot import the file as that or even if I change the extension to .json which I learned is the proper backup file that Firefox makes. You need to copy the places.sqlite file to the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox use it.
You would need to restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

WhenI try to restore bookmarks, which have disappeared, Firefox says that it cannot read any of the ten backup bookmark filess

All the bookmarks on Firefox have disappeared and no new ones can be added. I tried the backup procedure to restore lost bookmarks but I am told that the backup files (all ten of them, by date) cannot be read. History files also are not shown.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder and delete all places.sqlite files.

How to restore bookmarks other then "restore" option in library?

i know how to restore bookmark file in mozilla firefox using restore option, but i want to know is there any other way to restore the bookmarks where i have to just put name of the bookmark and it automatically restore if it found that file. please reply if anyone know the answer.

Sorry. Sync isn't really intended as a backup medium as you were trying to use it for. It isn't meant to be a storage "cloud". It's purpose is to keep Firefox bookmarks synchronized across multiple Firefox installations or Profiles - so all your bookmarks are the same on each device / Profile.

Immediately backup the profiles on both machines. Keep the profile backup files and folders somewhere safe outside the Firefox program and profile paths. The Windows Desktop would be a suitable location.

that is not itself a backup, but you may consider the synced second device to be a backup
Restored bookmarks overwrite the existing bookmarks. You may still have some left, but unfortunately you could have overwritten most or all of them with corrupt copies. If you backup the profile at least you have access to copies of whatever automatic backups were made. Note in future that it is good practice to periodically make backups.
Post back again once you have backed up the profiles, and read the linked articles.

Use Sync to restore bookmarks after Windows restore

My PC crashed and would not reboot. Had to completely reinstall Windows7. Had been using Firefox and Sync prior. had to re-download Firefox, but of course all of my (many!) bookmarks are gone. The Sync promo says they are stored "on Mozilla's servers". >> How can I get them back?

Thanks Ed. Don't know for sure what version of Firefox I was using before the crash. I did the login as you suggested and got the "Manage" screen. When I click on that it takes me into sync settings. The only option there is to "Disconnect". How do I "restore previous bookmarks"?

I am deleting bookmarks over and over again and sync just keep restoring them.

It is best to disconnect Sync before trying to repair the places.sqlite file.

Can I restore bookmarks from Firefox Home on iphone to reinstalled Firefox 6?

I have Firefox home synced on iphone 4 with all my bookmarks etc.
I downgraded to Firefox 6 from 7 as so many of my add ons etc wouldn't work on it. Now I want to 'restore' my bookmarks etc from the iphone via sync but can't seem to stop both Firefox 6 and the Firefox home from giving me codes to enter into each other at the same time. Is there a way?

Unfortunately this is not possible. Did you ever recorded the Recovery Key and safe that? If so you can log-in to your Sync account with it. Follow these instructions: [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]] Specifically the section "What if I'm not near my computer?" at the bottom.
The explanation is that Firefox Home is just a client that receives information from the server and doesn't send the information back to the server, so if you reset the Recovery Key the information in the server will be destroyed and the old information will not be uploaded again. And it doesn't show the Recovery Key either.

I have already got Firefox Home sync'd on my iphone from my old PC, but my old PC has been whiped. Now I want to set up my sync account on my new pc and retain all the bookmarks from my account. How do I do this?

Right, first I had a PC then sync'd my bookmarks to my iphone...Now my PC has died. I have a new PC and wish to sync my bookmarks back to my new PC.. But I cant seem to do this because the sync process on my new pc asks me to 'add a new device' which I dont want to do... So I click 'I dont have the device with me' and even then I can't get a sync key because there is no way to find it on the iphone app. I have looked back through my emails to see if I was ever sent one by email, but I can't find it.
SO basicly it looks like I am going to loose all my bookmarks that I want to transfer onto my new pc. Unless I manualy add in the bookmarks from my phone onto the new PC on firefox and create a new sync account?

I'm having a similar problem, but I do have the key and is not working anyway.
My old pc was running on windows 7 and my new one is an apple running on Lion.
My phone is an Iphone IV and I can see all the bookmarks there.
In order to sync, what I did was click on the "I don't have the device with me", I entered the key that was provided and the process finish ok. It says congratulations, etc, etc.
But the bookmarks are not there, I tried merging data and replacing data on this computer options but is the same.
Any suggestions?

Yesterday, I was unable to access Firefox at all and had to use another browser. Today, Firefox is back but all my bookmarks seem to have disappeared. Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

Does firefox home sync the safari bookmarks on my iphone, or does it only sync the bookmarks in the app firefox home?

Does Firefox home, sync the Safari bookmarks on my iPhone? Or does it only sync the bookmarks in the app Firefox Home? Now I have two different sets of bookmarks. One is from Safari and one synced from Firefox located in Firefox Home.

Does anyone have an answer? Help!
