Restore can't complete?!
Hi all,
I reinstalled (snow) Leopard on my iMac. While trying to restore, after quite a while, I get the next error:
Errors and Warnings:
- 2010-07-30 12:04:38 +0200 Couldn't copy accessibility config file from /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/Rons Mac/2010-07-25-161141/Macintosh HD/var/db/.AccessibilityAPIEnabled to /private/var/db/.AccessibilityAPIEnabled
What is going wrong here? I hope the backup isn't corrupt, else I am S@#@ed... Anyone has an idea where to continue?
Second question, a bit off-topic; does time machine also restore iLife?

Your signature (from +My Settings+ at the right of this page) says you're on Leopard. Be sure you used a +Snow Leopard+ Install disc to restore a Snow Leopard backup. If not, start over with a Snow Leopard disc.

Does the restore stop? If so, try again, but first use the Utilities menu to select +Disk Utility+ and do a +*Repair Disk+* on the backups. If it happens again, try restoring an earlier backup.
If it still fails, while booted from the Install disc, use +Disk Utility+ and erase your internal HD, then install OSX. When your Mac restarts, +Setup Assistant+ will ask if you want to transfer your data, per #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Then download and install the 10.6.4 "combo" update. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.
Second question, a bit off-topic; does time machine also restore iLife?
Yes (unless they were excluded from Time Machine, of course).

Please help.. I have just tried to install lion on my iMac and it can't complete because of 'disk error'.. can i delete lion and go back to leopard as there was no problem there?? can't get past grey screen
Just restore your bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup.

I have a backup from Time machine of my iPhoto and I get the above error when I try to restore them. Thae backup was done with Mountain Lion and I upgraded to Mavericks. The backup is on an external drive.
Again this is the error:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “iPhoto Library” can’t be read or written.(Error code -36)
I have also tried going to earlier dated backup and get the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank YouThat error message is an I/O error which can mean a number of things, among them a bad file. Here's a couple of fixes you can try:
1 - use the free version of iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library with the rebuild being created on the EHD as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
When iPLM finishes it will display a log file entry showing which files it was unable to use in the rebuild. Open the old library with iPhoto, locate and delete the photos that iPLM listed in its log. Then try dragging the library to the EHD again.
If the above fails continue with:
2 - create a new, empty library on the EHD. Use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manage to copy the events (1-2 at a time) to the new library on the EHD. At one point iPLM may run into the bad file and be unable to copy the event. You can check iPLM's log to see what file it is. Then open that library, delete the file and either try to copy the entire library by dragging and dropping or contine with the copying of events from the old library to the new library. -

when I run set permissions for a particular folder, I get the message- can't complete.... because you don't have sufficient priviledges for some items! As far as my computer is concerned, I am god. And I have ultimate permission , and I don't like my computer giving me messages that I don't understand. Plus, This is part of the same: I changed start-up disc to do some maintenance, and when I came back to Tiger my iTunes wouldn't play or any other music program. and I couldn't trash an app with no icon ,I couldn't open it because it said it might be damaged?

1. Turn off iPad

While upgrading my iPhone to IOS 7.0.6, I disconnected to answer incoming call. When I finish the call, the phone went to restore mode. Even if deleted all the backups shown in iTunes Preferences>Devices, check the actual backup folder on your computer to be sure there isn't one still there that needs to be deleted. You will find them at one of the following locations:

Restore onto a new device? Yes, provided the backup is complete. If it was done using iTunes, with all synch options enabled, onto local storage and encrypted, the resultant device will be identical in content to the original, have done this with an iPad 1 to a 3 and the 3 to a 5.

If the iPhone is running iOS 7, activation lock included with iOS 7 will prevent someone from restoring the iPhone or completing the process.
If the iPhone can be restored, it cannot be restored from the iPhone's backup - only as a new iPhone or not from the backup. -
