Restore deleted iWeb site from Trash

Rather stupidly I managed to right mouse click on my main site within iWeb and select delete.
The site is now sitting in my trash, but I can't find a way to get it back into iWeb!
Can it be done?

The site is now sitting in my trash
What is it exactly that you see in your trash that you think is your site?
There's no way to import anything into iWeb. You need to have a backup of the Domain file, which is normally located in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb.

  • Restoring old iweb site from idisk

THrough sheer ignorance, I created a "new Site" in iweb, not realizing it would replace my exiting website, which is far more important. I want to restore my old site. I am able to access the old site through idisk, but have no idea how to relink it so that it reappears as my website. (Someone suggested opening the index.html in plain text editor and correcting the URL, but I have no idea how to do that. Tried opening it in "text Edit" and no URL is there)
Appreciate any help!!!! This is killing me!

TextEdit is what is says - it is an html editor so that you use it to edit html code, so not url will show up as it does in Safari etc. Safari is a browser and TextEdit does what it says on the tin - edits html code.
The easiest way is to go back into iWeb and open your domain file with the site on it and re-publish all of that site and it will be back at the top again. That is assuming that you have the relevant domain fiel and have not deleted it?
If you publish another site in iWeb, assuming that they have different names, they will not cancel each other out, but what will happen is that the second published site will be at the top, so all you need do is re-publish your original site from iWeb and it will be back at the top again.
You can always get to all your iWeb sites via the url http://web.me.com/username/sitename so Site1, Site2 etc.

  • Deleting iweb site from mobileme

I have moved my web site to a new hosting service.  All OK.
However, I realise now that I did things in the wrong order really.  I wanted to leave a stub on the old MobileMe site redirecting my audience.  I did this by deleting my website from MobileMe on my iDisk (I stupidly did not delete the index.html file - but have realised my error and redeleted my 'new' stub website and the index.html file and then republished.  Even though I gave the site the same name as my old site MobileMe has insisted on changing it by taking off the last letter and adding _1, so that when anyone tries to visit the old site they just get a whole lot of stuff from MobileMe which is not useful.
I realise now I should first have duplicated my site - given the duplicate a new name and published this to the new host, deleted all the pages from my original website except the new Home page, and republished this to MobileMe.  Alas I did not do this.  Is there any way of getting my 'new' marker website to publish to the original MobileMe address?
I guess it's no big deal really.  Mine is not a major website - it's just a family history website (now at www.dearmanmollett.id.au - originally http://web.me.com/dearmanmollett/Dearman_Mollett_Family ( think))  After all MobileMe will make it all disappear anyway on June 30 I assume - but I would really like to delete all trace of the former website except for a marker site redirecting traffic.
Hoping at the very least that my problem will help others.

You could replace the first page of the old site on MMe with a blank one containing an HTML snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
Thanks to Cyclosaurus for this code
When a visitor lands on the page they will immediately be redirected to your new website.

  • Restoring an iWeb Site from idisc

    Hello,
after a system crash I lost the website I created with I-web; now it seems that all the files have benn saved in my Idisk but I cannot figure out how to tell I-Web, to use those sites.
I also thought about copying them back to my MAC, but I have seen that i-Web does not allow you to open a site from a specific drive.
Is this really so or am I doing somethin wrong?
Thank you for any hints you may give me.
    Best regards
    Mike

    Hello,
thank you very much for your reply. I have one last question then; where can I find the project file? Does it have any special extension? It does not seem to be stored in the "Sites" folder of my user account library. Where is then?
    Thank you very much

I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?, I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?

The history option is the little clock icon at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu - the icon in the center between the open book and the eye glasses icons. You don't have that? Try closing Safari and see if the history option comes back
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also clear the history in Settings>Safari>Clear History.

  • Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.

  • Deleting iWeb Site in only one location?

I recently moved my iWeb site from one computer to another. It opens perfectly, can be edited, etc.
My question is... if I delete the site from the first computer, will it be permanently deleted from the Internet??

iWeb will ask you that. If you confirm, iWeb will delete the site on the server, if you answer No, nothing will happen.
To avoid that, change the settings to "publish to folder" (no need to actually choose a folder). Now you can safely delete the site in iWeb.

  • Deleting one site from MM

Just to be on the safe side: if I want to delete one site from my MobileMe, then I have to delete the site from my iWeb AND delete it from my iDisk, right?
Anything else to think of so this won't endanger any existing remaining sites?

The main place that you need to delete the site from is your iDisk, as this is the published site, so if you don't want it any more then go and delete from iDisk first.
You can also delete it from your domain file if you wish, but it does not matter if you keep it as it is not published in the same way as it is to your iDisk.

  • Accidentally Deleted iWeb sites

I accidentally deleted two sites from iweb. I had not yet published them to a folder. Is there any way to get them back? Anywhere I can look on on hard drive for these files? They must have gone somewhere!
    Thanks

If you deleted them from iWeb and closed iWeb they are gone unless, as Fredrrr suggested, you got lucky with TM. If you haven't closed or saved iWeb type Command+Z several times to see if you can get them back.

  • Working one iWeb site from two Macs

I have two Macs, and use my desktop for working at home, and my laptop for working away, or when on holiday for working with photographs and, hopefully, blogs. I set up my iWeb site initially using the desktop, and then tried to edit the site using my laptop, only to find that it cannot, seemingly, be done.
Help! Does anyone know how to edit one iWeb site from two machines, or is there, perhaps, a practicable workaround?

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on your desktop machine at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on your laptop. Launch iWeb and you'll see your desktop site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect:

  • Hosting Your iWeb Site From Your Mac

If you don't have a .Mac account or you don't want to pay a monthly fee to host your new website you created with iWeb, you can use OS X's built-in Apache Web server. To accomplish this, follow the steps in the link below.

I was able to get this to work, using the same configuration you mention. The way I did it was to set up the IP address on my LAN using fixed static addresses, and to have the router "forward" the http packets to the Mac running Apache. In Network system preferences panel, you also need to set the DNS servers address to the address of the router on the LAN. In order to reduce hackers trying to break in, I don't use the standard port 80 for my address, but use some other 4-digit port (e.g., 8182), so my website address ends up looking like www.whatever:8182. Instead of "no-IP.com" I used the free dynamic name service from http://www.dyndns.com/. I also put the web content on a firewire disk, which requires a little editing of the httpd.conf file. This was another security precaution. Anyhow, its been working great -- not a single problem. Also, Weblock is great shareware that lets you assign login IDs on the web folders.

Ty, easily done. Just transfer your Domain.sites file following these instructions. The only difference is you are going from laptop to desktop machine.

  • Download iWeb site from .mac

    Hello
I make most of my iWeb pages (ver 1.1) at home, but sometimes I am at my vacation home. I have iLife on both machines. Can I download the site I have made which is on .Mac to my second computer AND create new pages to be uploaded to .Mac? I have tried looking around for such a command but I can't find any. I realize that any pages I make on the second machine will have to be updated on my main machine.

    PTakeshige wrote:

No, because the published files on MobileMe (previously .Mac) cannot be opened in iWeb. Only iWeb's key Domain file can be opened in iWeb, so you can transfer that to another Mac as explained in these articles — the first also applies to iWeb '06...

  • Maintain IWeb site from Windows (Vista) based machine

Just checking...I don't suppose there is anyway in <edited by host> I can manage or update an Iweb site from a windows based machine - which I've been asked to do. If this is possible, I'd love to hear how it might be done.
    TIA

    Welcome to the discussions, CabanaKid.
No, it's not possible. iWeb keeps everything in it's Domain file and only iWeb can open and publish from that file.
