Welcome To  Discussions jmontalbo!
If you can call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, and provide the serial number and MacBook Pro system specifications, you can order of set of replacement system discs, for an amount, which is probably lower than that quoted price.
And you will know that you have the correct discs.

  • Install & Restore DVD Question...

I am student living abroad and just had the infamous 'folder with a ?' pop up on my MacBook. I realized then that I didn't pack my DVDs with me when I came and am wondering if I purchase a set of OS X install discs, if that will be the same as the 'restore' DVD that came with my laptop in the first place?
I have tried everything I can find online on trying to fix the problem but nothing is working. I just want to get to the Disc Utility to try to fix the problem so if anyone knows a way around purchasing new disc, let me know.
    Thanks!

    Hi jacksonRy;
The biggest problem you might run into is if your MacBook is so new it requires a new version of OS X then DVD you purchase contains.
    How old is your MacBook?
As far as fixing your disk with Disk Utility that may or may not be possible. DU looks at the structure of the files on the disk. When you boot and get the question mark that can be caused by the content of the files which DU will not see at all.

  • I mac restore DVDs question...

I have an iMac 7,1 20 inch and I lost my restore discs. Can I order a set from apple? The discs are 3A125. I have the leopard upgrade disc, just need the base 10.4.x disc and the 2nd one with iLife and such. If I can't get them from Apple where can I obtain these discs?

From what I understand you should be able to get a replacement set from Apple.

  • How to restore HP factory defaults without system restore Dvds if Win7 is formatted?

I recently encountered a problem with pre-installed win7 in HP Pavilion Dv6 6121se laptop after replacing the old battery. The hard disk had three partitions: C, D & E. By default the windows was installed on C drive. The following operations were performed in sequence:
1-      Using Partition Wizard 7, I decided to format C drive with the idea to re-install the OS from recovery partition. I accidently changed the recovery partition from "Primary" to "Logical" during this process. Soon I learnt that the system recovery (F11) wasn’t functioning followed by this  message: No bootable device - - insert boot disk and press any key
2-      I made a system repair disk from another laptop to overcome the above issue. It didn’t work,  so I then decided to merge the C, D and  E partitions using AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition. The status of the hard is asunder after merger:
Partition            File System          Capacity        Used Space        Free Space            Flag                     Status
    C: SYSTEM           NTFS                     199 MB         13.8MB             185.2                    Primary                  None
D: Data                NTFS                     451 GB           99.8 MB           450.9 GB              Primary                 None
    E: Recovery        NTFS                    14.45 GB      12.87GB             1.58GB                 Primary               System
    F: HP_Tools        FAT32                  103MB           15.5MB             87.5MB                Primary              System
    Here comes the problem:
    A)      When C: SYSTEM is set as active partition, I get this message on startup
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
    B)       When E: Recovery is set as active partition (or tapping F11), I get this message on startup
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
               File: \Boot\BCD
              Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The windows   boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
Please bear in mind that I didn’t make any system restore DVDs in advance which could have been used at this stage but I do have the default recovery partitions intact in hard drive as shown above. After all this, is there any way to retrieve my system to factory settings without losing recovery partition and HP tools?
    Thank you all!

Try download a PE system and get in there and run an WIM tool to install windows to C
(Look for base.wim in the recovery partition and install it)

  • Missing SOftware Restore DVD's

    Hello.
I have a white MacBook that I bought last year (March 2008), and I lost the restores DVD's that came with the computer.
I read many forum post and it seems there's no way to get those DVD's from Apple (I don't have Apple Care).
    My question is:
    What's inside those DVD's?
If I buy Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard and iLife 09, do I need any additional software that is inside those DVD's?
I have a friend that has the DVD's, is possible to make a backup copy? How can make it?
    Thank you.

Even if you don't have AppleCare, you can call up Apple and they'll send you replacement discs for a nominal fee. This is far less expensive than a retail copy of Leopard+iLife.
I believe buying a retail copy of Leopard+iLife would be enough, but I'm not completely certain. I do know that you wouldn't get a copy of the Apple Hardware Test, but I'm not sure what else would be missing.
    You can't use a friend's discs as the restore DVD's are machine-specific.

  • System Restore DVDs Vista vs Windows 7

I am brand new here and I appologize if this has been asked before.  I looked around and tried searching but did not find my answer.
I just reveived my new HP Pavillion dv7t last night.  The Notebook Essentials booklet says to create a set of System Restore DVDs, but that this can only be done one time.  I am in the process if registering for the upgrade to Windows 7 snce it is due out in less than week.
Should I go ahead and create the System Restore DVD set with the Vista OS, and if I do will I then be able to create another System Restore DVD set for the Windows 7?
I would like to make sure I have a System Restore based on both of the operating systems in case I need to go back to Vista, but still have a System Restore for Windows 7 if it proves stable and I like the OS.
    I hope this makes sense...
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Make your Vista Recovery DVD's. Two reasons...
1.you won't be able to make a Win 7 Recovery set, (unless HP offers some magic here).
2.if you install Win 7 and later need to reinstall it you will have to start over with Vista installation and do the upgrade process again (unless HP's version of upgrade works differently than retail version...haven't gotten an answer on that one).
Of course you could always use an Imaging app to make an image of the freshly installed Win 7 to use in the event of a reinstall.Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect are 2 good choices.Macrium is my preference.

  • Install/restore DVDs

Hi just a quick question if anyone has an answer I would be very greatfull.
I need the Install/restore DVDs for my MBP and need to know what part of the information below is needed to find the correct disc's, as I wish to buy some new/second hand one's from ebay.
    MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009
I was told this information (MC118B/A) but not sure how to find out (Or were to look for on MBP) That's if it is needed ofcourse.
    Thanks for looking...

If you are dealing with Apple, the important item is the serial number because they can then get all the specifics of your machine and what you need.
If you are trying to buy a system disk from another source, skip the serial number and give the information from the system profiler which includes the model and type, something like MacBook6,2...or whatever the profiler shows you.  That and other pertient information such as cpu type and speed.
You can get a lot of the detailed information for your MBP by looking at http://www.everymac.com and look under MacBook pros and find your machine...a lot of the details are on there for that class of machine.  Of course, it won't list the exact memory you have installed or hard drive, or any other options you purchased..

  • Missing Mac Mini Restore DVD disk 2, need to Cancel Installation

hi, I'm a Mac newbie. I recently bought a mac mini from someone. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that there should be 2 restore dvds instead of just one (I thought the Os X Tiger drop in dvd was the 2nd dvd).
I'm trying to reinstall the OS X along w/the software b/c I ran into some problems with the Mac mini. But when I get to the screen that says, "please insert Disk 2", I have no disk 2. I can't cancel the installation b/c the Cancel button is grayed out. I tried shut down and restart the computer from disc one directly, but after click through a series of Next buttons, it only leads me to the same screen.
Now I can't use my Mac mini at all. Short of fork over $40 for a replacement dvd from Apple, is there anyway I can restore to the previous point prior to my attempted installation/cancel the current installation?
    Much thanks in advance.
Mac Mini 1.25 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4)

"is there anyway I can restore to the previous point prior to my attempted installation/cancel the current installation?"
No, sorry. That is not a feature of Mac OS.
If you have an Apple retail store nearby head on over there, explain your situation and see if they'd be willing to copy the 2nd disc for you.

  • Wont boot from restore dvd's or new copy of Leopard!!

Well I am witts end I have an isight that I installed a new hard drive on and will not boot from the restore dvd's, or a new leopard disc(now i am out 130). It will how ever boot from drive genuis(new drive is fine) or restore dvd's from a new iMac and it will tell me that disc's are not compatible(duh just checking to see if it was a bad optical drive) any suggestions or ideas are welcome!!!

"Well I am witts end I have an isight that I installed a new hard drive on"
The iSight models are not user rerpairable except for RAM installations. All other repairs should be done at a repair shop. Apple does not even supply repair manuals (DIY) for the public for the iSight models.
If you installed the HD yourself, its possible it was not installed correctly.
    Just a thought..............

  • Mac mini 2011 a1347 restore DVD

Hi, I have a 2011 Mac mini and where I live now I haven't a good internet access, now I have to do a full restore and it asks me to download it from the internet but that's impossible me to do because 1giga files could take months to download, I also brought long time ago a snow leopard DVD and tried to install on the Mac mini with no luck, it doesn't even boot.
Need to know if you can send me the default restore DVDs for that model of Mac mini, thnxs.

Depends on what is being called a "2011" Mac Mini.  If it was purchased before July 20, 2011, or does not have the hardware or firmware revisions of July 20, 2011, then it is not a mid-2011 Mac Mini, and a system specific 10.6 installer disc would be available to it.  Otherwise, that's correct, you must have a high speed internet connection somewhere to get the software, if you don't already have it.
    As you'll see here:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords=A1347
Refers to 2010,2011, and 2012 Mac Minis.  We'll need you to verify your have a Mac Mini 5,1 or later to decide whether or not you need the high speed internet.  If you do, according to the System Profiler, then find yourself a place with high speed internet.

  • Startup problems and no restore DVD

    Hi
I purchased a demo G5 iMAC, and after 6 months it fails to boot.
I assume I need to do a rebuild, but the system did not come with any restore DVDs.
I also have a mac mini, but have discovered that its restore DVD doesnt work with the iMAC.
I managed to run first aid from the mac mini disc and it claims the HD is ok
Can someone please tell me where I can get a copy ?
I am not to keen on spending $200 aus for a copy of Tiger - when I should already have a license for Panther
Since the DVDs seem to be only for specific machines, can I download it ?
Is there some way I can use the mac mini software ?
    Steve

    Welcome to the discussions!
You can also call Apple and they will be able to provide you with the machine specific disks - at a cost of course.
May I ask why you waited six months without the restore disks? This is something that should have come with the computer and if not, you should have been on the phone right away to have them :just in case."
I hope you received a nice discount for them being missing.

  • Where Can I Find The Fonts On My 2 Software Restore DVDs ?

Recently I completely erased my eMac and installed OSX Tiger from a Tiger DVD, which I then updated to OSX 10.4.10.
I was able to retrieve the original eMac applications from the Software Restore DVDs using Software Restore.
However, I have just discovered that the latest OS does not include all the previous fonts. Some of my favourites including Portago and Textile are missing.
I assume that these fonts are somewhere on the original eMac DVDs - but where are they and how do I get at them?
I have Pacifist but am not too sure about its use.
    Ian.

  • How to customize install with the restore DVD's

HI,  Is there a way to customize the install of the restore DVD's for Vista.
For example, I wouild like to have 2 partitions.  Also, I do not want all the extras installed, mcafee, etc.
    Thanks

Is the restore partition intact on your Thinkpad?
If you run the restore from the restore partition it gives you the chance to do a "Custom Restore" where you can choose to not install some of the programs.
When you run the cd's it wipes all partitions and installs the resore partition. Then it restores windows from the restore partition without the option to do a custom restore. You would have to restore asecond time from the hard drive to get the custom restore.

  • Replacing Restore DVDs?

Is there a way to get a replacement copy of the restore DVDs for my computer? I tried booting from the restore DVD, but upon ejecting the disk, I noticed that this disk had gotten badly scratched up from last week (when I went to apple hillsdale, I put the DVD in a Jewel case, but it must have gotten damaged on the way home!)
(P.S.) I have AppleCare extended warranty, and I wonder if this is covered? I will find out at 7:15 am!

I don't think it will be covered under warranty, but if you contact Apple they will provide a set of replacement disks for a nominal charge.
