Restore error 1603

I m getting error message 1603 while restoring thru itune.
plz help me to resolve the issue.

Folks,
The mystery to the imfamous "error 1603" while restoring the iPhone has been resolved. At least the Genius Bar representative at my local Apple store has restored and upgraded the iPhone and gave directions to correct the problem in the future.
Despite the mysterious experience reported by many others in the iPhone discussion forum or at other sites (Google search), the actual meaning and cause for the "error 1603" has to do with a software problem. In this case, the software is iTunes.
The iTunes installation creates / drops two key files in a Mac OS installation that are preventing a successful restore and upgrade of the iPhone. The files that prevent a restore are / and located at:
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
/Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
To resolve the inability to restore the iPhone, removing these two files then reinstalling iTunes 7.3(1) fixes the problem. You do not need to remove the iTunes application ~ only these two files. When you run the installer again, you can do a custom install and just reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Support.
Removing the SIM is in no way a logical or factual fix.
Apple Support (first tier) didn't have a clue, but taking the iPhone to the local Genius Bar provided the restore and complete instructions on fixing the software problem on a Mac.

  • IPod Touch 1st Gen 1013 Restore Error Code

So I have my iPod touch that I treat with the utmost care and it got stuck in the apple logo on startup. I tried restoring in the iTunes(hold home button and plug in USB) and DFU mode and I always get the 1013 error code. So yesterday I brought it into the Apple Store and they attempted to restore it and it gave them the 1013 error code. He told me that it was a generic error code and it would cost $250 to get a new 3rd Gen iPod Touch, which isn't a very ideal result. So I spent some time thinking about this and I thought why is it my problem that Apple can't fix their iPod especially if it's a generic error code. I take great care of my iPod and have nothing wrong so why should I be paying $250 for a new one? So today I called Apple Care support and after complaining to them they told me that the $250 would be the cost to *JUST REFURBRISH IT!* So I said "so if I am going to pay $250 dollars then shouldn't I just buy a new 32GB 3rd Gen iPod Touch?" The man said he agreed with me and that he was sorry there was nothing else he could do. I then asked if there was a way to see if the iPod had a software or hardware error and he asked if the genius at the store had run a diagnostics test. I said no because all I had was a restore done and I was sent on my way. He said that the store should have run a diagnostics test because it was protocol. So now I have to go back into the Apple Store and get a diagnostics test run on my iPod because the initial genius didn't follow protocol and just insisted that the iPod touch had a hardware failure so it was out of warranty. I highly doubted it was a hardware failure because restoring the firmware is a software issue. And nobody can give me solid facts why it's not, other than the genius thinking he really is a "genius" and telling me it's not because he didn't follow protocol.
So tell me what else you think I should do other than get the diagnostics test run. Any comments or input would be much appreciated.
My overall goal would be to have my iPod replace or fixed for free because that would be the reasonable thing to do. Especially because all the trouble Apple has cause me thus far.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user. If the issue remains, Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.

  • "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. Error 1603" Help!

So I had recently jail broken my iPod(2G, 8MG), which was stupid of me and I regret it, but I kept having issues with it so I manually erased everything off my device from the settings straight on my iPod, then my iPod refused to go passed the apple logo when it restarted.
I have updated my iTunes, I have put my iPod in DFU mode multiple times and have tried restoring it and it doesn't work, then I press "shift" (I work on a Windows) and then click restore and my downloads file comes down and I click on the firmware I downloaded which is 4.2.1 I believe. It starts to restore, then after around 5 minutes I get the error message "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured. Error 1603."
I'd love for some help, I'm starting to get frustrated and I do not have the money to buy a new iPod.

    Yu said: Jailbroken
Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.
Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues

  • Unknown error 1603 when trying to restore my iphone 3g in itunes - help!!!

hello everyone - any help on the following issue would be greatly appreciated!
just updated to latest version of i tunes on my PC, synced all my new music etc, then phone just got stuck on the black screen with the small apple logo in the middle. phone (iphone 3G) won't turn on and just has the signal to connect to itunes. so i connect to itunes and it says iphone is in recovery mode - must restore phone to use, so i do that but it keeps getting stuck on the 'preparing to restore i phone' screen for a few mins before coming up with 'unknown error 1603'.
    anyone else had this problem?
anyone know if i can log into i tunes on a different computer and try to restore it?

    any help hugely appreciated

Hello, I can't turn my iphone 4s on, it just broke down and now there's just the black screen with the apple logo on it. So I connected it to itunes and tried to restore it, but than always the errors 1603 & 1611 appeared! please help me!!

You may have a faulty USB cable. Try another.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the iPhone.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • Preparing ipod for restore then error 1603

I've been trying to update my ipod touch 4G for 3 weeks. I download ios 5.0.1 and then tried to restore it manually. First i got the error 3194 and 2005. I tried changing host files, putting in DFU mode, using fixrecovery and so on n then those errors disppeared. But now everything's running smoothly until 'Preparing ipod for restore'. As soon as it starts, ipod went into recovery mode and that preparation stage would last around 4 mins and error 1603 or 1604 appeared. It's been going on for a long time and i find no solution. Plus i want to know if ipod normally goes into recovery mode when restoring cuz i've put it into DFU mode already.
My current ios is 4.1 and i m running window 7. Somebody pls help me?

    Did you try:
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.

  • My iPhone 3GS gives error 1603 when updating/restoring

I use iphone 3GS...I have been using the ios 4.3.3 all this while. Now, the other day I tried to update to ios 5.0.1 and it gives the itunes error 1603. I have tried every possible suggestion I could get from the forum and apple help site but seems like I can't by pass the error. I finally passed the iphone to the telco, they even failed to update or restore my iphone. Please help me. Tell me what to do!

My 3GS phone is now a brick thanks to itunes!
After being forced to upgrade my iOs because I of an app I decided to upgrade to iOs 5.
The phone is in recovery mode but every time I tried it
Now it is a brick that is going to the pollution pile.
So I am in the Apple Brick club.
Yes I did the typical, Win XP reboot a few times. Changed USB port. Tried different PC.
I have administrator access on my computer.
The phone is out of warranty. Is Apple going to charge me for something that their software did?
I have a copy of the ipsw but have no way of verifying whether the backup file is corrupt.

  • Error 1603 when restoring Iphone!!!

My iphone randomly stuffed up, it is stuck on the Apple Logo, and currently I can get it into the restore mode by holding the sleep and home buttom method connected to itunes..
However, once it is in Itunes, when I click restore, it loads for a few seconds and then gives me Error 1603. I have done everything that apple recomends to fix this error and nothing changes... I don't know what to do anymore. I cannot take it to a store to get fixed because the glass is cracked on the front and they refuse to fix it.
    PLEASE HELP!

First find and delete all the .ipsw files on your computer, there should only be one, but delete ALL that you find. They are located here:
    OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    7 & Vista: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
You may have to turn on "show all hidden files" to find them.
    Once done, reboot your computer.
Then, see if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn your phone off(if you can), if not try to reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.
