Restore - Error 22 - Invalid Argument

am trying to use Disk Utilities Restore function to create a bootable copy of my current boot drive. I have two internal 60GB drives. I have unchecked the "ignore ownership" box before starting procedure. I booted from my Tiger Install disk. I specified my curent boot drive as Source and selected the other drive as Destination. I also zeroed out my Destination drive before starting and also checked the erase box before starting.
All seems to go well until the very end and I get this error messge. "An error(22) occured while copying, (invalid argument)
Not knowing what to do, I just exited disk utility. If I boot from my Source drive all goes well and if I examine the contents of the Destination drive, I find all my files and apps. I can access fiels and can run programs from this drive.
However, it is not a bootable copy, If I select the Destination drive as the boot drive, then I get a start up screen that is a greyed out symbol for NO (circle with slash through it.) I have to reboot from the original source Drive.
I have followed "Lee's Instructions for Tool A" (previous poster) to the letter.
What to do now? I really need to create bootable copies
dan

Forget Disk Utility, use something like the free Carbon Copy Cloner (repair permissions first and enable "make bootable in CCC prefs) or the very nice Deja Vu which will auto-clone (the whole boot drive) and auto-backup (folders you select) all seemlessly in the background when you want to a external or another drive. (forget cd's or dvd's just not feasible) and the clone is boootable.

  • Disk Utility, restore image via HTTP, and error 22 (invalid argument)

    I'm trying to restore a properly-created and prepared (i.e. volume checksum applied) Apple Software Restore disk image to a volume on a target computer. The source image is hosted on a Web server and accessible via HTTP.
    The image restoration process appears to succeed for the most part, but at the end, I get an error 22 (invalid argument). This may be after the image restoration has finished, and when the resulting volume is being mounted. (I wonder if the problem is automount-related?)
    The same image, so far, restores to the same volume successfully when restored locally, mounting the drive in target disk mode on the host Mac.
    I am curious if anyone else has seen this same behavior and found a solution. Or is everyone else having the same kinds of problems with HTTP-based restores?

  • ORA-27102: out of memory SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument

    Hi all,
    I'm doing an install of a Solaris 10.2, Oracle 10.2 system. During the Create Database phase, I am getting;
    ORA-27102: out of memory SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument
    Doing some research, and reading through the details here:
    Link: [http://technopark02.blogspot.com/2006/09/solaris-10oracle-fixing-ora-27102-out.html]
    I think my issue is my SHM parameters, reinforced by the repeated entry in the Oracle Alert log:
    +WARNING: EINVAL creating segment of size 0x0000000085000000+*
    +fix shm parameters in /etc/system or equivalent+*
    when the create fails.
    I am not familar with Solaris' new project mechanism, although from what I have read, it seems to be set up properly.
    Here are my server details:
    # prtconf | grep Mem
    Memory size: 8192 Megabytes
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project 200
    project: 200: QBI
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
            privileged      10.0EB      -   deny                                 -
            system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
    And as for Oracle:
    shared_pool_size = 1522029035
    shared_pool_reserved_size = 152202903
    pga_aggregate_target = 2705829396
    sga_max_size = 3439329280
    db_cache_size = 1159641169
    During the course of troubleshooting, I have:
    1 - Increased the amount of SHM allocated in the project. I have tried 16GB, 8 GB, 10 GB, 11GB etc, to no effect, so I reset it to 10GB (as seen above) and focused my efforts elsewhere.
    2. SHARED_POOL_SIZE - I have decreased this by roughly 75% from the original value, again to no effect.
    3. PGA and SGA sizes - I have increased these from the original values by an increment of 25%
    Following the advice from the referenced blog (which does a good job of explaining the logic behind the actions) I have determined that the Alert log error message is telling me that it is lacking
    2231369728
    (Hex conversion value, which I think I need to read as 2GB, not 100% sure)
    I've increased my project allocation, and the PGA sizes, did I just not do it enough?
    Any advice?
    Thanks for any input,
    Troy Shane

    The search results for various permutations of "docker error mount invalid argument dm" are badly washed out so I wasn't able to find any helpful leads; nor was I able to find anything relevant in the docker issue list. I tried re-installing docker (by running pacman -Rns docker and then pacman -S docker hoping that it was a config setting I could nuke & pave but this had no effect. I then ran the following:
    $ dmsetup ls
    docker-8:98-380441-pool (254:0)
    followed by dmsetup remove docker-8:98-380441-pool and attempted the pull again. No difference.
    I'm convinced this is not a docker bug but a misconfiguration of my system, but the error provided ("error mounting .... invalid argument") is rather opaque and I'm stuck with what to try next.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Well, rm -rf /var/lib/docker did it!
    I was unable to remove /var/lib/docker/devicemapper ("device or resource busy") but that doesn't seem to matter - as you suggest docker reconfigured itself. Thanks for the tip!

  • Fssnap fails by "fssnap: ioctl: error 22: Invalid argument" because of xntp

    Hi,
    on cluster node fssnap -F ufs -o bs=/xxxx /
    fails by "fssnap: ioctl: error 22: Invalid argument" because of xntpd_cluster service.
    Is there any workaround?
    Many thanks
    Ushas Symon

    I don't know if we support fssnap on anything other than the root file system because of its interaction with the system and potential to lock file systems for brief periods. If this is on the root file system then may be you could stop and start xntpd_cluster briefly while the snap is being taken.
    Of course, the better option would be to upgrade to SC3.2 01/09 and use ZFS for the root file system. I believe support for ZFS boot just squeezed in at the last minute thanks to some excellent work by some of my QA colleagues.

  • Error in File ~tmp81c59e23760a10.rpt: Invalid argument for database

    When trying to run the report via Crystal Reports Server, we get the following error:
    Error in File ~tmp81c59e23760a10.rpt: Invalid argument for database.
    Opening the report in Crystal Reports 2008 and running a verify database, confirms that everything is working. Yet when we run it through Crystal Reports Server it errors every time.
    We are using a Progress ODBC driver which works fine when running reports via Crystal Reports 2008
    Can you please shed some light on this.
    I have already checked to see if there was a service pack or any other hot fixes available.

    Hi Brett,
    I believe I have the same error. ie
    Invalid Argument provided.
    Error in File xxxxx {C8F4D455-6B45-4859-B1B0-3E77619E5AD0}.rpt:
    Invalid argument for database."
    Have you managed to resolve the issue yet?
    We're running Crystal Reports 2008 Basic on MS SQL Server 2005.
    The Crystal Report works fine, when run on the server (and/or in terminal server session), but if it is run from a desktop client, which connects to the server, it gives the error above.
    So in my case, it must permissions or component related (ie something not loaded, that should be).
    I found the following on the internet:
    u201DIDataReader supports only one table by default
    When you view a report that has tables with the data source set to
    IDataReader for each one, and many of the tables are linked together, you
    may see the following error message: "Invalid database argument." Calls
    made to SetDataSource() from an IDataReader are supported only for
    reports that contain one table.
    Workaround
    To use an IDataReader with multiple tables, create a report with one
    command table that selects the necessary fields.u201C
    From researching in SAP BOBJ Notes I found somethings to try, or look at, but can't quite tackle them yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

    George

  • Ipod touch says "invalid argument", I need help

    So I have an Ipod touch 1st generation, its been working fine with the wireless connection, a couple days ago its just stopped working, it says I'm connected to my network but every time i try to open safari or i tunes or any app it says invalid argument. I've restarted it, restored it to factory settings, and restored network settings. I don't know what else to do. The IP address is 162. something and idk if it needs to be 192. or what? My laptop and computer work fine on the wireless network. Please help!

    Hello
    I have the exact same problem as described above, but mine started since version 2.1 for ipod. I left my ipod alone for about a month or so and just tried to go online yesterday, and I realized that I couldn't. After trying some of the things described above I decided to upgrade to the latest ipod firmware since I thought that would fix my problem, but it didn't. Before when trying to connect with version 2.1 I was getting an error saying safari cannot connect to the internet as well as Itunes Store. Now with 3.1.2 firmware it gives me an error saying Invalid Argument. I took my touch to the Apple store where I got it from but the ipod connects there with no problem and they told me they haven't heard of such issue as Invalid Argument.
    I will try to follow steps 2 and 3 on the post above even though my router is Japanese one. Would you please tell me why is this happening now? I mean my ipod was working fine about a month ago, but I just didn't use it for that time and now it doesn't work.
    Is this a problem of router only or is there anything else I can do to fix this?
    I have an ipod touch 1st Gen with 32Gb 3.1.2 firmware
    Looking forward to hear from you soon

  • Restore BOOTCAMP from .dmg image - Unable to scan (invalid argument)

    I'm having trouble getting my maching back in order after a crash.  I'm running a MacBook Pro 13" mid-2009 with a Bootcamp partition.  Last week my harddrive crashed or something and I wasn't able to boot into either drive.  Using the Snow Leopard install DVD and Disk Utility I made .dmgs of the entire HD and each of the partitions (Mac HD and Bootcamp - maybe overkill but..).  I have since been able to restore my Mac side from the image, even without installing OSX - I just restored from the image using Disk Util again and everything seems to work fine.  But, now I've been trying to do the same thing with my Bootcamp side - I have a separate .dmg for that.  Everything seems to go fine except that when I try to restore it tells me the image needs to be scanned and when I scan I get the error message: "Unable to scan BOOTCAMP.dmg (invalid argument)".  I've tried using different schemes of compression/ no compression on the image, tried to convert to a .cdr then rename to .iso and restore using Windows' native Recovery option. I even tried Terminal - sudo asr restore -noverify -source _________ -target __________ , but it wouldn't let me drag and drop in the Bootcamp drive icon...
    Now I don't know what to do but ask.
    Has anyone solved this problem????

    Hi, and thanks for your reply.
    Is there anyway I can convert my .dmg or .cdr/.iso to something that winclone can use?
    ps I did finally get Disk Utility to scan the image.  I had to convert it to a compressed .dmg from the uncompressed one and it finished it fine but still in Restore in Disk Util. I can't set the destination as my bootcamp partition.
    Looks like I'll have to reinstall everything then eh? Well thanks for your help.

  • Report fails with " Invalid argument for database." error.

    Hi All,
    Several of my reports deployed on Crystal Reports Server 2008 server fails everyday with the following error.
    Error in File ~tmp121c5dc747685036.rpt: Invalid argument for database.
    The error is not consistent, if report A fails today, it is Report B the next day. When I reschedule the reports, they run just fine. They fail only when the daily schedules run at 2:00 AM in the morning. 100 + reports are run at this time and some of the reports that fail run many times with different parameters. Is this error due to scheduling reports many times or is it something else? Appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks

  • "invalid argument" error message when connecting to the App store after upgrading iphone 4 to 5.0 firmware

    Hi everyone,
    I have seen many topics about this problem but none of them helped and they seem to date a little bit so I would like to ask again.
    here is the situation :
    we have two iphone 4 in the house and everything was going fine until we did the update to the new 5.0 firmware. there was no problem while the update had only been applied to the first iphone... but after updating the second one, we now have the same problem on both iphones. We can still connect to the internet from the iphone just fine but the connection is erratic at best with the itunes store because we keep getting cut by this dreaded error message "connection to the itunes store impossible, "invalid argument" occasionnally we'd get a different message that says "connection reset by peer"
    - what is invalid argument mean anyway???
    - I have tried to renew the lease in the network settings, it didn't work
    - I have tried to reset the network setting, it didn't help
    - I have checked in the network setting for the IP address, it starts with 192.xx.xx..... which is supposed to be a good thing as opposed to 162.xx.xx....
    - I have reset my router, nothing happened...
    - I have tried unauthorising my computer to any accounts because we were afraid that using two iphones with two different itunes store accounts one the same computer may have caused these problems.. but no luck
    I am running out of ideas, I would like to renew my frustration to apple because we buy these expensive products and still seem to suffers from stupid bugs... I was under the impression that these things were tested !!! anyway if anyone has found a definitive solution to this problem (short of burning your iphone out of anger) it would be deeply appreciated.
    thx
