Restore Error (3014) ipad 2 w/mavericks

I originally loaded my ipad 2 with music and apps from a windows machine but that machine died.  I have a work Macbook pro that has Mavericks on it and I was trying to just restore and update my ipad to the latest software using the work mac but I keep getting "error 3014".  So I go to the apple support site and try all 6 steps listed, check my router, use terminal to check my hosts (there was no gs.apple.com tag), and was going to install a clean version of iTunes on the computer but I can't delete it because it is a part of the OS.  My iPad is currently stuck in recovery mode bricked.......what should I do next? Try another computer, or do a hard delete of iTunes using "rm" command?
Any help is appreciated.

Dear Austel91
I had the same problem, and took the following steps to resolve the issue:
1) get your iPad out of recovery mode using RecBoot 2.2:
http://jaxov.com/2011/02/download-recboot-2-2-compatible-with-mac-10-5/
2) find a different network to update your iPad. For me, I discovered that Zen Internet, my ISP, uses OpenDNS, which was blocking gs.apple.com. So, I "forgot" my Zen internet connection on the iPad, set up the Personal Hotspot on the iPhone, checked that the iPad was connected to the Personal Hotspot, and then ran the Software Update from iPad->Settings->General->Software Update. I waited for the iPad to work away and reboot a couple of times, but the update went through. Then I disconnected the iPad from the Personal Hotspot, re-entered the password for the Zen Internet network and all went back to normal.
It appears that iTunes error 3014 means that gs.apple.com has been blocked on ports 80 and 443, but I am unable to prove this. It does seem worthwhile checking what sort of filtering/content restrictions are applied by your ISP. Also, it is very important that the iPad should pick up the network you want it to, by forgetting all but the one network which you want to connect to.
Hope this helps.

I have been trying to update my Ipad to ios 5.0.1 and I keep getting the error (3014), althought my iTunes is updated to the last version, my windows is fully updated, my Ipad is directly connected to my PC's USB... I even tryed to check my host file, everything seems fine, I even tryied to update with Antivirus and Firewall disabled... nothing seems to work, and the question I keep asking is, can my Ipad 2 even update to ver 5.0.1?

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • IPhone 5 won't restore - Error (3014)

I upgraded my iPhone 5 to a 6 when they came out last year, and deleted everything off the iPhone 5 of it as instructed on the apple website.
I then gave the phone to my Dad, who has only just started to use it now.
My Dad entered the wrong pass code quite a few times. I have tried to restore the phone and it is not working. I am using my Dad's computer, and am signed in as me and have trusted this computer on my ID. It keeps telling me that it cannot restore and gives error code (3014)
Any help would be gratefully received as this is so annoying!!
    Thanks,
    Lucinda

  • HT201263 unable to restore getting error 3014

can any one help me as i am using iphone 3g n i am unable to restore error 3014.

If you computer has EVER been used to hack, unlock, or jailbreak any iPhone or iPad (not just the one with the problem) your network database is corrupted. You need to fix the hosts file.
If this is NOT your problem try disabling your antivirus and firewalls.

Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.
