Restore Exchange 2007 database backup on Exchange 2010 server

Hi,
We have a requirement to restore mailbox from 2 years old when backup taken from Exchange 2007 server. Now we are on Exchange 2010 server where backup happens. So out of 2 years 1 year backup happen from Exchange 2007 & later happen from Exchange 2010
server using Netbackup.
We have 2 Exchange 2010 mailbox server & 1 Exchange 2007 mailbox server. Mailbox to be restore currently exists on Exchange 2010 mailbox server & functional.
can someone guide me with exact steps or best practice for restoring mailbox. confused by reading over multiple posts.

Hi ,
You cannot export data to a .pst file from a mailbox that is in a recovery storage group (RSG).
Mailboxes that are in a database that has been mounted in an RSG cannot be connected to Active Directory directory service accounts. These mailboxes have to be merged into existing mailboxes, or copied to a folder in an existing mailbox.

  • Exchange 2007/2010 Console doesn't show up Exchange 2007 Databases after RBAC Implementation

I have implemented a RBAC model after which Exchange 2010/2007 Console won't show up Exchange 2007 Mailbox Databases.
Everything was working fine up until the Users were members of "Exchange Recipient Administrators" Group.
I have created Custom Roles based on PArent Roles, Mail Recipients, Mail Recipient Creation, Distribution Groups & Public Folders and assigned that to a universal security group "Helpdesk operations". I removed membership for Helpdesk operations
from "Exchange Recipient Administrators" Group and assigned the Custom Roles to "Helpdesk Operations" using the cmdlet below:
New-ManagementRoleAssignment "Custom Role" -SecurityGroup "HelpDesk Operations"
Exchange 2010 console shows Exchange 2010 Databases but not Exchange 2007 DAtabases. Exchange 2007 console doesn't show up any databases on New-Mailbox and simply displays a message "No Objects Found".
Even Get-MailboxDatabase REturns blank output on Exchange 2007 SHell. Please help me with this and let me know in case if there is something that i need to be looking at!
any help on this is much appreciated.

    Hi,
I recommend you use the following cmdlet and check the result.
Get-MailboxDatabase -Server "Exchange 2007 server name"
In my environment, if I don't specify the Server parameter on Exchange 2010 Management Shell, Exchange 2007 mailbox database can't be displayed. If I specify the Server parameter, Exchange 2007 mailbox database will be displayed.
What's more, please check if the account you use has been delegated the Exchange View-Only Administrator role.
Here is a thread for your reference.

  • Exchange 2007 database won't mount due to MapiExceptionCallFailed errors

A server is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit. After a couple years of running smoothly, the Windows Application event log started filling up with several instances every minute of the following error:
    MSExchangeIS (2644) First Storage Group: A bad page link (error -327) has been detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 5, PgnoRoot: 10) of database H:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb (165296 => 3185, 817790).
Messages sent to a specific mailbox on the server started getting returned as undeliverable with the message:
#550 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service reported an error. The following information should help identify the cause of this error: "MapiExceptionCallFailed..."
I assumed that the event log messages and the delivery errors were related so I ran "eseutil /d" on the database but it exited with the message, "Operation terminated with error -1605 (JET_errKeyDuplicate, Illegal duplicate key) after 76.578 seconds. Running
eseutil /mh reports the database state as clean shutdown.
The Exchange database had been backed up nightly using Windows Server 2008 Backup. I restored the latest backup of the .edb file. Unfortunately, the corruption behind the bad page link error seemingly had propagated through the backups because the restored
.edb file had the same issues.
I then attempted to create a new clean database with the goal of then transferring mailbox data from the old to the new as described in the article "Simplifying the Dial Tone Database Recovery Process in Exchange 2007" (http://blogs.technet.com/b/dhardin/archive/2009/08/25/simplifying-the-dial-tone-database-recovery-process-in-exchange-2007.aspx).
I successfully created the new storage group and database with empty instances of all mailboxes but attempts to mount the old database yield this message:
Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: FASTMAIL\NewStorageGroup\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344)
I then tried to return to the initial state of having a corrupted database but one that would at least function temporarily for all but the one broken mailbox. The idea would be to instruct individual users to run the Outlook archive command to back their
messages up locally into .pst files. Unfortunately, all attempts to mount the original .edb file yield the same MapiExceptionCallFailed error. I also tried to mount the database after deleting the transaction log files.
I searched the web for information on this error. There are some pages describing similar errors such as "hr=0x80004005, ec=2417" but I could not find any for "ec=-344". Some articles recommend running IsInteg.exe but this utility only works for databases
that are already mounted and I am unable to mount the database.
The Exchange server is running again using the empty database so that the users can at least send and receive mail. I get the sinking feeling that all hope is lost and the historical mail data that was stored on the server is gone for good. Before I face
the pitchforks of the angry mob, I figured that I would at least post an inquiry on an Exchange-related forum.
Are there any other steps I should take to try to recover the old data?

have you checked the health of the database using eseutil /mh "edbfilename.edb" ?
is the state: Clean Shutdown ?
If it is in clean shutdown state, then move the old logs, chk, .jrs files and select the option "This database can be overwritten by a restore" and mount the database.
In case if your database is not in clean shutdown state then you would need to work towards getting the database to clean shutdown using any of the following strategies based on the criteria that the database is affected with !
    1. soft recovery
    2. Hard Recovery
    3. Hard repair

  • Exchange 2007 machine: Backup of three whole volumes, waste of space?

    Hello,
    I have a Exchange 2007 server . Three volumes:
    1-C:\  , system. (100 GB Hard disk)
2-D:\ , Exchange databases. (100 GB Hard disk)
    3- E:\ , Exchange Logs. (100 GB Hard disk)
As far as I know, this is best practices.
All in an only VMWare machine.
I am reading that backing up this Exchange server, will take the three whole volumes, therefore, 300 GB of space needed ?.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, I am sort of new to Exchange.
Is there a better way to locate my Exchange files, and the Windows system files?
    Thanks in advance!
Luis Olías Técnico/Admon Sistemas . Sevilla (España - Spain)

Depending on how you are backing the volumes up, it could take 300GB, or it could take only the storage necessary for the actual data on the disks.  How are you running the backups?  Something you want to keep in mind - if you are running an Exchange-aware
backup, you aren't going to backup the log files - they get written to the database and unneeded logs are purged at the end of the backup.
As for a better way, what you are showing looks like a planned configuration.  You normally want the Exchange data separate from the OS, and having the logs separate from the databases is a common practice.

  • Exchange 2013 ECP shows no databases. User moves fail referencing an old database of a crashed 2010 server

Our old 2010 server was migrated to 2013 but before removal, the 2010 server failed.  Now when I go to my ECP > Servers > Databases, the list is empty.  I can't move any users either as the list population fails because it can't find the
old database from the 2010 server.  I thought I removed it all from ASDIEdit but something is lingering.  Mail is flowing fine at the moment.

Server has been rebooted several times with no success.  These are production mailboxes.

  • Migrating Exchange 2007 Public folder to SharePoint 2010

    Hello,
I have an exchange 2007 SP3 Rollup 11 that hosts public folders, I need to migrate these folders to maintain the hierarchy and folders permissions to MS Sharepoint 2010.
Is there is any tool that could assist me in this migrations, or any article that leads me through this migration.

  • Syncronizing a Exchange 2007 Public folder to SP 2010 Caledar

    Greetings
I am running Share Point 2010 Enterprise and Exchange 2007.  We have a large amount of Public Folders that we need to migrate to Share Point.  I was wondering if there is a way to do this without having to buy any extra software.  I have researched
some and all that I have read is that you can use a the Outlook sync button to link the calendar to Outlook which I am fine with.  All our workstations are using Outlook 2010.  But I have read that if you copy the appointments from one calendar to
this SP linked calendar all appointments will sync from that point on, which is incorrect.  Moreover, when I select list view to copy the appointments over and then open appoints in calendar view none of the appointments show I am assuming
that this is a permissions issue.  So I guess I am asking two questions here.  1) what is the best way to migrate Exchange Public Folders into SharePoint?  And why are the appointments that I copy over from the public folder are not showing
up when I change the view back to calendar view in Outlook.  I really appreciate you time for reading my post.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to migrate the exchange public folders to SharePoint 2010 calendar.
If you hava a small number public folders, you can migrate the public folders manully.
Here is an article which about migrate public folders to SharePoint manully(although it’s about SharePoint 2007, I think it’s helpful for you).
    http://www.messageops.com/manually-migrating-public-folder-content-to-sharepoint-online
If you have a large number of Public Folders it would be recommended that you take a look at 3rd Party Migration Tools,
such as the Quest or AvePoint products:
    http://www.quest.com/public-folder-migrator-for-sharepoint/

  • Exchange 2007 Database mount error after server crash during defrag.

Most likely but I have copies of the orignal and the temp still.

  • Exchange 2007 setup, transitioning from Exchange 2003

    Hello Exchange Experts,
I just setup a Exchange 2007 within our domain, transistioning from Exchange 2003, question: When I added the mailbox role on the setup of Exchange 2007, the mailboxes appeared instantly from our Exchange 2003..the connector I'm assuming automatically connected
during the 07 setup. Is this normal? I was under the assumption to migrate mailboxes from 03 to 07 Exchange, the wizard must be ran. All active mailboxes from 03 appear. I attempted to migrate one mailbox using the wizard, error after the wizard completed,
mailbox exists. Makes sense, just not understanding how the mailboxes flowed/migrated automatically without running the migration steps. Would someone explain? You could say, this migration is very new to me.
    Thanks in advance!
    James

Ronny, our company had an existing license for 2007. Of courser 2010 or 2013 would have been a better transition, but 2007 is it. The server 2007 has met all the criteria for the transition, spent last moth prepping everything on 2003 and 2007. I'm just
not understanding why the mailboxes appeared upon 2007 immediately after adding the mailbox role.  The management console on 07 shows the mailboxes reside on 03 exchange server. I did not go through the process/wizard to move to 07. Perhaps because
during the installation of Exchange 07 created the connector from 2003? Maybe that's my question.
Mail flow is very responsive now, just wondering for the reasons of decommissioning exchange 2003 at a later date. Exchange 2003 is functioning now as a bridgehead, working perfectly now.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Moving from Exchange 2007 to 2013 (leaving the DNS Server for it's own dedicated server)

Hello! I am quite new to Exchange and Server management in general. I will do my best to explain my situation.
I am looking to move my Exchange server off of our DNS server. When we installed them on the same server, we did not have the funds to buy 2 separate servers. I am told that it is best to separate the two. I have followed the Microsoft instructions for installing
the prerequisites for Exchange 2013 on a 2012 R2 server, and i am at the point where it wants me to configure AD LDS. As I have active directory running on the current server, I was a little hesitant to just install it without understanding what i am doing.
After the AD LDS is configured, I believe i can move forward with installing Exchange 2013 (all 3 roles will be hosted on the new server), export the mailboxes from 2007 server and import them into the new Exchange 2013 server. After 2013 is up and stable,
I plan on removing 2007 from the old server (DNS server).
What are my next steps after importing the mailboxes? Am i missing important details that I need to change or migrate?
My biggest fear is that nothing works after the installation and moving the mailboxes over. For that case, it makes sense to keep 2007 installed as a fallback for when my installation fails and all i have lost is just my time :)
    Current Server:
Windows Server 2008 Standard (64 bit)
    1. Roles: Active Directory, DNS, IIS
    2. Software: Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Windows 2012 R2 Server
    1. Roles: ???
    1. Software to install: Exchange 2013
Thank you for any help you can provide!

These are good resources, but i am still caught up with the active directory issue.  Am I able to keep the old Domain/DNS/Active directory on it's current server and move Exchange 2007 off onto a new server (with Exchange 2013)?
In the first example, he is moving everything (domain controller, exchange, users, etc) onto a different server and decommissioning it.I've been told that it would be better practice to keep the domain and exchange on 2 different servers. Is this true?
I go to run commands like:
    .\setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName: orgname /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
on the new exchange server, as a prerequisite and it doesnt recognize the command - even after following the steps before. Is this because the new server is not a domain controller? does it have to be? What are the best practices for setting up a server(s)
    with exchange + domain controller?
    Thanks for responding.

    Hello,
You're attempting to restore a database that was backed up on SQL Server 2000, directly to a SQL Server 2012 instance. This is not supported.
You'll first need to restore the database backup to a 2005/2008/2008R2 instance, take a new backup, and restore that new backup to 2012. SQL Server 2000 is too old to do a direct migration to 2012.

    Hello everyone.
I have an ms access database backup file.
Presently i dont have ms access database in  my system.
It is high priority to access that ms access database backup file.
So, is there anyway to access that in sql server?

    Hello sir,
i tried to use import/export wizard to import data from an ms access backup file.
I completed it with some warning's.
Wizard has shown that 2 out of three objects(tables and views) are copied to destination database(empty database which i have created for storing this imported data).
And in that process, wizard made me to create a package.
Now how to access that package?
And my newly created database has no data.(i mean it is supposed to have 2 objects which are copied from source right?)
Sorry if my doubt looks silly i have never used ssis or import/export ever before.

Backup device is HP Surestore Autoloader.

Backup software is Veritas (version 8.6)
Note: Through this we take backup of our legacy system and it takes around 3 1/2 hour to 4 hours to take backup of 60 GB of our legacy data.

    Hello,
A indication of the size of each database would be helpful.
However, its NOT a good idea to take only one on line backup a week. What if you have a tape error and cant recover a TL? You have no chance for recovery. This is not best practice. Can the business except a 4,5 or even 6 days loss of data - id guess not.
This is what id do if you don't want to purchase a new device, I would take an online backups from SQL to disk every night - this would be a separate disk! From the disk you can the pick up the backup to take at a time to suit that wont impact the existing backup. Plus you always have two copies of the backup. One on disk, one on tape.
My normal transaction log strategy is similar, again backup to disk, every hour on a production system. Then after midnight move the existing 24 logs into an archive folder. This folder would also be picked up by the existing device at a suitable time before being moved to a 'saved' folder and deleted the next day. Again you always have multiple copies of the data. two on disk, two on tape.
