Restore failed for unknown error -30

Grrrrrr.
My iTouch was stolen so I brought a new one.
Just tried to restore and it failed!!!
Now there is no device tab in the left column.
Where has all my stuff gone?
How do I get it all back, it cost loads of money!!!
How do I get my new iTouch looking like my stolen one?
Many thanks
Viriane

  • Ipad2 restore fails with unknown error(1) with "iTunes and recovery" mode logo

Ipad2 64GB was sluggish and we tried to update with latest iOS update, security 2014-005 and latest iTunes on iMac 12.01 It enters a recoverymode with the iTunes logo and connector symbol displayed on the screen. Recognized that iPad is connected and proceeded to restore to factory condition. Goes through several stages, FW verification, restore etc but fails to proceed past a certain point and puts up an unknown error (1) occurred message. Disabled firewall and tried restore and it failed in the same spot. Tried using power + home button combos to enter DFW or restore mode. None of them worked. Took it to the Apple store and was told that it can't be debugged further because it did not yet boot up ( if it has the iTunes and connector symbol it must be in some state that it can be interacted with?) It's physically in a perfectly beautiful condition, nothing funky (jail breaking etc ) done to it, well taken care of.  The tech said that he can offer a replacement for 299$ after he tried to restore it twice without success. I am surprised that this tech thinks that it cannot be probed with some low level FW tools through the serial connector to determine the system state.  Any suggestions?

    Hey Ngtrishank,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, I concur with the Apple Store’s conclusion. Error 1 is usually related to a hardware issue with the device. While there are a few steps you can attempt in the following resource, in most cases Error 1 signifies that the device needs to be serviced. For more information on troubleshooting Error 1, see this article:

My iPhone 3GS is getting the same error. I've called Apple a bunch of times, and they won't get back to me. I'm searching through discussions to figure out a solution.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (6)

I know this type of error has been posted before but I've tried everything I've read in other posts and have not gotten anywhere.
When I try to restore my Ipod Touch, after it is into the restore for a while, I get the message:
+*The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (*6).+
    iPod Touch 1G
    Firmware 3.12
    What I've tried:
    - Rebooting host.
    - Resetting iPod Touch - Holding down home and power for 10 seconds
    - Using different computers with fresh versions of Itunes. Computers were running Vists, XP, and Windows 7.
    - Putting iPod touch into DFU mode (Hold down Home and power for 10 seconds then let go of power until iPod goes into DFU mode.
I always end up with The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
I did get extended Apple care service but of course it ran out last month!
I did get a log from one of the failures if that would be of help.
    Any suggestions?
    Dave

Well my ipod is just out of warranty so I'm not sure if they will even look at it but I'll try tomorrow to bring it to the Apple store.

  • The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)

After trying to update ipod, during the phase where I had to back-up the ipod, an error message popped up (I can't remember what it said). Now, the ipod is just stuck on the "plugin to itunes" icon. Itunes and my computer can't recognize my ipod anymore. I have tried putting it into DFU mode and my computer detects my ipod and begins installing the drivers. On my first attempt, the drivers installation failed, so I reinstalled itunes and quicktime. Then after putting it into DFU mode again, it begins installing the drivers, but this time it was successful. Now I had the option to 'restore' my ipod so I did what I could. However, when I was installing it, 2 more drivers had to be installed and they were successful, however, I get this error message:
The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)
Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks very much for your time.

Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Try restoring it again. If it fails with the same error message, that pretty much always indicates a hardware failure. The phone will have to be replaced.

Disconnect the iPad from your Mac.
    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:

Click Go then move the Networkinterfaces.plist file to the Trash.

  • The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (3). How do I fix this?

I had a problem with my iPhone 5 connecting to my service provider (verizon) and also to the internet just minutes after I had used the internet to browse before work this morning.  I tried soft reset, hard reset, and connecting to my computer, but nothing worked to get it back to normal.  I decided to do a system wipe and restore it as well, but I get that error: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (3)."  I googled that and searched for literally 7 hours without any luck.  Any and all help is appreciated.  Thanks!

This has just happened to me today. I have an iphone 5 on Verizon. I was using the internet on the device normally when it started. It couldn't access any online data even though it had 4 bars of service and LTE. I restarted it and it would be stuck "Searching for network". I tried wiping the phone with no luck. It gets stuck at around 99% of the firmware restore process and hangs there for about 25 minutes before itunes gives me the error described above. I tried the recover-mode restore with the same results.
I need a working phone ASAP, this is extremely frustrating!
