  • 2 Desired Improvements for the Flash Player 'about' web page

Hi all ...   I'm finally writing to request two improvements to this web page:
         http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
As a geek, I have long been annoyed that this web page does not keep its Flash object and does not show the Flash Player plugin version number in the same format as used in the detailed list of latest Flash Player versions for various web browers and operating systems.
This web page is mainly a tool for techs.  It can be improved greatly with these two changes (which I'm requesting on May 29, 2013):
    1)  Near the top of the page, KEEP the flash animation object --
do NOT replace it with an advertisement in a few seconds.
Keeping the Flash object there allows a knowledgeable user
to right-click on the object to see the Flash plugin version, which
is a way to confirm that the web page's displayed Flash Player
    version is correct.
Currently, the Flash object is replaced within a few seconds
with an advertisement for some other Adobe product.  This is
MOST ANNOYING.  As a tech, I'm specifically going to this web
page to (a) see that the Flash Player plugin I just installed is
working and/or (b) see what exact version it is.
Again:   Keep the Flash object in place -- drop the code that
replaces that object with an advertisement.
    2)  The displayed Flash Player version is formatted with commas,
    as in
                    You have version
                    11,7,700,202 installed
while ALL of the versions in the table below are formatted
    (properly) with dots, as in
                    Player version
                    11.7.700.202
Make it easier for us mere humans to compare these version
numbers ... rework the HTML code to replace the commas with
    dots.  (It's not rocket science.)
    Thank you.

            engineer in Tacoma WA

Thanks, Chris.    That other web page does serve my needs better.  I've created a web link to it on my flash drive where I keep the latest Flash plugins for IE and non-IE web browsers.
I still feel that the "About" web page needs the two changes I suggested.
Thanks also for pointing out that the box displaying the version of the installed Flash plugin is actually a Flash .SWF object .... since it is currently static (meaning, it has no animation whatsoever), I had no clue it was a Flash object.
So, I add a 3rd request:   have that version-display SWF object redone, to have a simple animation added and to have its code to display version revised to use periods (dots) in the version numbers.  If that object currently is intended and used in some other Adobe (European?) we page, create a new object for the English "About" page.   Or to re-use code, use the version-display object from the page at
          http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
on the "About" page as well.
Again, as a techie pressed for time, I want a web page where I see the current version of the installed plugins and the versions of the latest releases, in the same formatting,
along with an animated flash object to prove that the Flash plugin in that web browser is working.
I do not accept that the mostly-technical Flash "About" page needs to have marketing materials (an ad).   People go to the About page specifically to see the Flash version info and to prove that Flash is working.
    Thanks again ....  - Ray

  • Adobe Flash Player update web address

I have been prompted to update Flash Player, and then landed at a webpage from which to download the update with an address containing "get3.adobe.com". I checked the web address of the page where you can download Flash Player to begin with by following the link on Adobe's homepage, and found that it contained "get.abobe.com". For security purposes, I want to confirm that get3.adobe.com is an official Adobe webpage for updating Flash Player, rather than a well-disguised fraudulent page intended to trick users into downloading malware.

    Hi LG27,
get3.adobe.com/flashplayer is a valid adobe address to download the Flash Player from.

  • How can I maximum flash player in web view?

    Hi All,
I embedded a web view in a VBox and the VBox has fixed size ,I loaded a video to this webview ,the video url is http://www.youtube.com/embed/pMas0tWc0sg,
How can I maximum the video after user double click video(just like double click on flash player in youtube to maximum the current video) ?

You can't. Because Flash doesn't work in WebView. Oracle decided not to add plugin support for WebView for the time being due to security concerns.
When you try to watch a Youtube movie with a WebView, Youtube detects the fact that Flash plugin doesn't work and substitutes an HTML5 player instead. The default HTML5 video player has a full screen button, but the specification forbids the ability to create a custom full screen button because they fear that would allow for some sort of exploit. Since Youtube's HTML5 player is customized, they couldn't add a full screen button to it.

  • I installed Flash Player but web content not recognizing it.

I am running FireFox and a web site required Adobe Flash Player to view a video clip.  I downloaded the latest version and installed it, but the website still does not recognizes it.  I'm not sure what to do next.  Help please.
    Thanks!
    [email protected]

I think I am confused.  The web site said I need Adobe Flash Player.  You mention Shockwave and Flash.  I know there is a program called Shockwave Flash, so is the Shockwave and Flash any way associated to Shockwave Flash?  The names are very confusing to me.
I have Shockwave Flash disabled since the website said I needed Adobe Flash.  I downloaded and installed the latest Adobe Flash Player, but it is not coming up in the possible add-ons for Firefox.
Do I need to uninstall Adobe Flash Player and then activate Shockwave Flash and then reinstall Adobe Flash Player?  Is there a sequence to this?
Also, how does this Shockwave for Director come into play, since it says it’s for Netscape?
Thanks for your help making sense of these names!

  • SWF works great in flash, not in Flash player or web Browser

I am a flash neophyte and I am struggling with a strange problem. I have numerous swf files which work except one that is rather complex. When I debug the FLA of this problem file in flash CS4, it works fine. When I publish the FLA and open the subsequent SWF in Flash, it works fine. I open the same file in Flash Player or when I open it on a browser, the screen is white and nothing happens. When a right click on the browser frame and it offers me all the possibilities of a fully loaded movie, except that there is just a blank screen
The file is online at (if you can open it) and i have attached the swf and swd to this post
    http://pmworld.jp10000.com/00024.swf
    Any ideas are very welcome.

i think i figured it out... i have instances of the
flvplayback component, and their autoplay was auto set to true. i
got so caught up in the actionscript side i forgot about the
component settings. even though my actionscript told them to stop i
guess the flv would load after the code and play anyways. but
locally it would work because the flvs would load instantly.

  • Slow motion recording and playback with Flash Player with web browers

    Hi,
I am using a MacBook, have installed Flash Player 10, and everything was great until a couple of days ago. Then, my audio playback with Flash seems to be in slow motion. I record my voice in this program call Voicethread using either Safari or Firefox and what it should be a 3 seconf audio track seems to be elongated to 9, streching my voice like it is on slow motion. I have tried everything that it is recommended (restaring, uninstallins, reinstalling, etc) and NOTHING... I have spent hours already trying to fix this issue that came from nowhere... 36 hours ago was working just perfectly!
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Luis

Adobe Flash Player has also been crashing periodically on 2 of my computers, I'm still running XP, one of them a powerful HTPC, Dell Optiplex 755 SFF over a new Cable Internet Connection. Buffering, Lagging, crashing when streaming video for Catchup TV (Freeview) via Firefox Adobe Flash Player Add-On, does not happen on Youtube though. Lagging & Crashing does NOT occur AT ALL in Google Chrome, but I hate that browser.
Have tried the usual disabling Flash Hardware Acceleration + Protected Mode, setting storage to Unlimited, disabling FF Ad Blockers + Hardware Acceleration, cleaning Caches, updating program versions, everything bar reinstalling programs. It's not happening in Chrome, why in Firefox?

  • Flash Player and web page problems

I have just switched all my webpages over to an SHTML basis at my website (www.mgytypes.org) but am experiencing a problem with one page namely http://www.mgcars.org/mgccy/umlvideos.shtml.
The original page - http://www.mgcars.org/mgccy/umlvideos.htm - loads OK, ... but the new page http://www.mgcars.org/mgccy/umlvideos.shtml comes up with an error that if you press cancel on it continues OK but I want to avoid the error report!
This is related to the Flash Player embedded in the page in some way, but I cannot figure out what it is or how to remedy this.
Can one of you clever people out there help me figure this out please?
    Thanks
    Paul

You should place your swf in a CSS sized div container on the html page. If the scale width and height is set to 100% and it is not placed in a sized div, then there is nothing to contain the swf from trying to be the scale, or be the size of the page width (or height which ever it attains first).

  • Flash Player in web page hosted on Windows Azure

First, I admit I am a Flash noob. That said, I have an ASP.NET web page (ASPX) hosting a flash movie, and the page works perfectly on my development box but does NOT work when hosted on a Windows Azure web role.  The initial image (PNG) displays, and the triangular "play" button is there, but when you click it the player rectangle goes all black.
I have verified that the files are in place.  All the naming is correct.  As mentioned, it DOES work locally.
This is an SWF file that loads an MP4 file and there's some xxx_config.xml file that provides subtitles to the narration in the video.  I did not make the movie, but it was made in Camtasia Studio 7.  It generated the core html object tags that I copied, and all the supporting files.  As far as I can determine, the SWF file is failing to load the MP4 file.
In theory, this should NOT be a cross-domain issue as all the files are in the same folder of the same web site.   I have tried adding a crossdomain.xml for good measure, but that had no effect.  I also made sure to try using one single web server instance in Azure in case the load balancing between instances was causing the problem, but that had no effect.
I have a support call in to Microsoft, but of course they say they do not support Flash and I imagine Adobe will say they don't support Azure.
Anyone aware of any Azure-specific gotchas?
PS I am testing in the same IE9 browser from my local machine so browser settings are identical from the case that works.

I fixed it myself.  It turned out to be an Azure issue, not a Flash issue.  By default when an Azure web role instance is created (think VM), the IIS server is not configured with a MIME type for MP4 files.  You have to add it to your project's web.config file if you're going to use that type of file.
IIS doesn't like to serve up file types that it doesn't know about.

  • Flash player for web and offline

i saw a tutorial series that uses the same player for
    online: flash
    windows .exe
    mac: .app
well the player looks the same once launched
is this just a matter of creating the player in flash and then exporting to each of the 3 ? (flash, exe, app) ??

can you also export air player

  • Why when I have installed only adobe flash player my web browser displays still error plug shockwave flash. If it possible please reply in Poland language

Shockwave Flash plug may be busy, or no longer responding. You can stop the plug-in now, or continue whether the action is completed

  • Can't seem to install Adobe Flash Player 9 or earlier

I'm trying to watch a video on Yahoo and I've installed Flash Player, like, 4 times. Even restarted a few times. What's up??? I'm truly frustrated.
    Thanks.

    Hello allano,
One way to ascertain which Flash player a web site is using is to Control + Click or right click on a mouse any clear space on the web site. In the pop menu, click View Source. When that window opens, press Command + F. At the top of that window type in Flash. The results will be automatically highlighted for you. Apparently Yahoo uses Adobe Shockwave Player available for download here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
Also, for minimum requirements go here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/productinfo/systemreqs/
See if you can view video on Yahoo after you do the download and install. It's always a good idea to run Disk Utilities (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions after the installation.
    Hope this helps!

  • STILL no real answer to problems with QuickTime and Flash Player

The reply to Problems with QuickTime really didn't answer or solve the basic problem. Some sites to work at all require you to have working Flash Player 8 so when I try to use these sites I get the QuickTime logo with a question mark and then nothing. For all you experts on Apple and Mac; what is going on? Apple is the parent of QuickTime and I assume they want their customers happy with their work. So why is it so hard for these apparently small updates to their programs causing entire sites being blocked off? I have OS x 10.3.9 on a G4 iMac 855mHrz .... It seems that even though we, the customer by default become Apples program testers;the actual programers are never given the go ahead to actualy look at these problem posts. Has anyone ever gotten a solution for a problem they posted here from one of the programmers of the product? It would be nice to know we aren't left to our own devices when it comes to program gliches from the source. If the powers that be in apple are watching and willing to help; any time now is a good time to just but in on the conversation and help solve some of the problems us little people keep on running into.--------------
While online I run into sites that will NOT work without Flash Player 8 (which costs over $150.00) which is told to the viewer with a QuickTime logo with a question mark in it.
This leads the web surfer to try to upgrade or at least investigate Flash Player in their computer and it's version. When said web surfer looks at Flash player upgrade for bucks and the fact that in some way it is tied to QuickTime, web surfer gets real curious. Do the web masters for those sites know that their site is now blocked off? If any major portion ( say 30 or 40 % ) of the web surfing crowd is required to purchase an upgrade to Flash Player even though it doesn't look like Apple is the parent of said Flash Player; those web masters are going to be upset with Apple. Their income is tied to actuall access and browsing of a site, even if it is only to actually just get the Home page. With no access to the site due to no Flash Player 8, the web master is going to find those all important Hits going down to nil. -------
This post is way to broad for any one answer so I don't really expect one. But for you people who have run into similar problems with other programs and sites; I would love to hear if you got any help from other web surfers or from the parent people of those programs and/or sites. I know that my isp earthlink has helped out with problems faster than other groups involved. Anyway.. Any help or comment on this post ( or gripe if you prefer ) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, but you are completely misinformed. Flash Player 8 doesn't cost one red cent; it's only the Flash creation package that you have to pay for. You can download the free Flash Player 8 here.
QuickTime can natively handle some Flash content, which is why with the lack of the Flash player the browser defaults to the QT plugin. But Flash 8 is a relatively new format from Macromedia and I'm not sure QT supports it yet. Install the Flash 8 player and things should work just fine.
And just FYI, for questions about the Mac version of QuickTime, you'll be better off asking them in the QuickTime for Mac forum.
