Restore from Album 2.0 backup
Upgraded my machine to Windows 7 and
installed PSE 8. Tried to restore a backup copy from Album 2.0. Get error message saying it can't convert due to error and to use Album to repair.
When the backup copy was made to ext. hard drive, the backup completed successfully. When I restart PSE8, an "Updating" bar climbs to 100% then stays there for hours. What is it waiting for?
Deeply disappointed in this program.
Many people have reported problems converting from early versions of PSA/PSE to PSE 8. See this FAQ for how to troubleshoot the problems:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Problems_converting_catalo gs
The Updating issue is a separate problem, most likely due to a bug in the Watch Folder feature, and you'll probably have to solve this issue first. See this FAQ:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Updating_for_a
If you get to method 2 and you still can't get into the Organizer, then proceed with disabling the Active File Monitor.

Had a recent crash on my macbook, was previously using OS 10.6 I think. Restored from recent Time Machine backup and updated to OS 10.8.2 and now I cannot open Logic Pro 9. I get a 'No entry' Icon and a not supported on this type of Mac message. I cannot update either as anything up to 9.1.1 tells me I don't need it yet 9.1.2 tells me I need an eligable Logic Pro Version was not found in applications.
All of my files are stored in a separate hard drive with only the actual app having been on my Macbook. Should I just reinstall?Hi
To run Mouitain Lion you need to update Logic.
For the updaters to work the Logic application must be:
a) Within the Applications folder, and not in any sub-folder
b) Named "Logic Pro" with no extra numbers or spaces

new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop
tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the sameThe definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name? How do you know it isn't restored? Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device. Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore. -
ok, so I transferred my 3S info to my 4S by restoring from an old phone backup. But SIRI is gone and god knows what else?? Can I get my old stuff into the new phone and keep the 4S new functionality?
I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone. Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

My daughter accidentally reset her ipod4 to factory settings so I restored from the last iCloud backup. All her photos were on camera roll so I believe they should have automatically been backed up, but none have been restored. Why?
When she plugged in the ipod last night it backed up again so that now shows as the latest backup. No previous backups are listed so I do not seem to have the option to rerun the old one. She had many pictures on the camera roll taken from well before July. I can only presume that the backup in July must have been incomplete - but then I didn't think it was supposed to list as an option to restore from. Luckily many of the photos had been backed up on the pc but I am very frustrated as to why the icloud backup didn't protect them. Thank you for your advice though, I appreciate it.

Error ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
Its also not thread just to share info with oracle gurus here.If my findings for the below workaround is wrong then please do correct me.
Sometime you get the error after performing restoring controlfile when you don't have autobackup controlfile on
error ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
why?
Cause When you shutdown the database with using the normal, transactional or immediate options not abort a full checkpoint occurs.A full checkpoint ensures that all of the dirty blocks contained in the buffer cache are written to the data files, the database comes into synchronized state at this time i.e controlfile CKPT SCN=databasefile CKPT.

you will get the error when you will restore controlfile from backup set.
error ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
Reason is that CKPT SCN in the datafiles will be ahead of the backupset control file no
full checkpoint occuring. You are not taking backup in consistent state and the
backupset will not be in consistent state. When you will restore the control file from
backupset then yours restored control file SCN will be lesser then yours datafile

How to restore from Time Machine when backup is larger than HDD
In an attempt to upgrade my 13 inch, 8GB 2010 MacBook Pro (750 GB HDD) from Mavericks to Yosemite, the Yosemite install was stuck at "about a minute remaining" for hours (overnight). So I cancelled the install and tried again only to be stuck at the same spot. I took the mac to an Apple Genius Bar to have it looked at while it was stuck at that install step. They couldn't fix it and did a fresh install of Yosemite. Luckily, I had backed it up about a week before, so I wasn't losing a whole lot. I attempted to restore from the Time Machine backup using Migration Assistant (2TB external USB 3.0) of the latest backup but the estimated time to restore from backup kept climbing to more than 150 hours. Eventually it had an error message that there wasn't enough free space on the HDD (the same 750 GB drive that my backups were from). There was less than 100GB of free space on the HDD before attempting the upgrade.
How can I restore at least a portion of my Time Machine backup, like my Documents and Apps? I don't even mind going back to Mavericks so that I can use my computer again! For example, I need MS Office but I cannot use it on Yosemite if I do not first get my original backup working again so that I can unregister the current version (the product key is "lost" with my inaccessible backups!).
Most of the information I can find online is how to prepare for a proper backup, but at this point since Apple Genius did a fresh install, Time Machine has my only backup!
Any advice would be great!
p.s. This may be useful to know: I had several virtual machines from Parallels: Windows, Ubuntu, etc before I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Mavericks required an updated Parallels that I never got but I'm sure those VMs are hiding in my backup drive.OS X Yosemite: Restore items backed up with Time Machine
While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user Library folder, first select a snapshot, then press shift-command-G. A Go to Folder dialog will open. In it, you'll enter the path to the folder. The dialog will help you by automatically completing the parts of the path when you start to type them.
The path begins with slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts will be separated by slashes.
The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a "2", and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right-arrow key to jump to the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next part.
Next is the name of the volume (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it a different name.) Start to type that, then jump to the end and enter a slash.
The next part is "Users", followed by a slash.
Next is your (short) user name, which is also the name of your home folder.
Finally, enter "Library", then press return. You should now be in the Library folder. From there you can get around as in the Finder. -

How do I restore from an earlier icloud backup that is not showing up for my ipad?
You can't. Usually you have only the most recent backup to choose from (I do). Some users has said they get 3 to choose from (this is the max as stated in Apple literature). You can't go back further than that.
The usual advice is that all photos should be synced to a computer (too many users have lost some/all their photos doing a restore - don't trust them solely to icloud). If you've been doing that, you can find them on your computer. -
Restoring from a Time Machine Backup on a new Hard drive
Hi,
I have a late 2009 iMac and I had the HD replaced (it was included in the recent HD recall).
Before I had it replaced, I made a backup using my time capsule and it was on the latest version of Mountain Lion.
My question is, since I have to install the OS using the original install discs which was Snow Leopard, if I use the restore from Time Machine using Mac OSX Utilities, will my Mac restore my Mountain Lion backup (and have everything like it used to before I had the HD replaced)? Or do I have to reinstall Lion then Mountain Lion then restore from there?
It would be a pain to re download everything.
Hope someone can help me out.
Thanks in advancePlease visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
You will find that Mountain Lion stores an invisible copy of the Recovery HD. You can boot from your Time Machine backup drive by restarting with OPTION boot:
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the disk icon for your Time Machine backup drive.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Your computer should boot into the Recovery HD. You will be presented with a main window of options. Select the option to restore from a Time Machine backup then click on the Continue button. -
Are all programs / configuration settings restored from a Time Machine backup?
The hardrive in my late 2006 Macbook 2.0ghz laptop has finally kicked the bucket. I confirmed this with an Apple Genius at my local Apple store after she plugged in an external drive and running disk utility to run a diagnostic. However, I forgot to ask her about some details concerning my time machine backup which resides on an external drive that connects via firewire. I do know that my files and folders should be restored without issues. Although, I'm not sure about the following:
1. Will all my non-apple applications / programs be restored?
2. Will my configuration settings for mail be restored?
3. Will my itunes settings be restored (I have an iphone and ipad that connects to itunes)?
4. Will my contacts in address book be restored?
I still have the original drive of this laptop which still works just fine and boots up okay (never erased the OS) where the upgraded drive that I installed a few years ago is the one that failed. Therefore, I will be reverting back to the original drive that is smaller and slower.
The Genius recommended to run disk utility from the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD (I originally had Leopard installed) to format the drive/install the OS and then do a full restore from my time machine backup. Although, I'm not sure if all my programs and settings for certain apps will be restored. I appreciate any help or other optioins I can possibly do to get back my saved files, programs, and settings. -
Restoring from my time machine backup
My macbook pro OS crashed...the local apple store reinstalled OSx 10.6.8, told me to restore from my time machine backup drive. How do I get the backup to go? I've plugged the drive in, the machine finds it, but I see no place to click and start the restore...
To restore your backup:
1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your Mac is starting.
2. Choose your language, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar), choose the option to restore a backup and follow the steps.
Another way is to use Migration Assistant > http://pondini.org/OSX/Migrate.html It will create a new user with the transferred files -

Does restoring from a previously made backup permanently delete text messages after that backup?
I made a Icloud back up two days ago. I have text messaged and sent emails since. I haven't backed up again yet and I was wondering that if I erase my phone and back up to that Icloud Back up made two days ago, the texts and emails I have sent SINCE then will be permanently deleted? AKA they can never be found again by anyone? That is correct you can only get back data that was backed up.

Can not restore from all Time Machine backup locations
I've just set up Time Machine in Mountain Lion to rotate backups between a Time Capsule (existing) and a Synology NAS (new).
When I select "Enter Time Machine" only the backups created on the NAS are shown.
How can I make Time Machine show restore points from both devices, or at least select a Time Machine location to restore from?
Backups are rotating and operating between the two without any issues.Pickled Hamster wrote:

You have to use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17.

Hi, I have synchronized a lot of photo albums to the iPhone 4S (iOS 7.1) from my Win7 PC. After a while I see a lot of copies of the albums in the photo app (e.g. 100 instead of only 30 I have synchronized), but they do not contain the original photo
