Restore from ios 7.1.2 to ios 7 - new phone old ios?

I am trying to Restore from back up to a brand new iPhone 5c - my iPhone 4 was on ios 7.1.2 and as my new iPhone 5c has ios 7 I am unable to restore from back up (current phone) - How annoying!! Any suggestions please?

You'll have to update the 5C to 7.1.2 (Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) as restoring a backup made on a more recent version of iOS is not supported.  After updating, you can restore the backup as explained here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

    Hi chuckrabaw,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the iPhone is searchiong for a network. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. There are a few steps listed in this article you did not mention trying, they may be able to help the issue.
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

  • I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone

I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back up. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone option. But I already have it restored. How come it's not giving me any option to cancel.

Click set up as a new iPhone. It will associate the device with your library without clearing the content that you have already loaded onto it.

  • HT4539 how do I download information from the cloud.  I just purchased a new phone?

How do you download information from the cloud?  I just purchased a new phone?

What information are you referring to?  You may mean restoring an iCloud backup from a previous device.  Or you may mean adding iCloud calendars, contacts, etc. to your iPhone.
In the former case (restoring a backup), the setup assistant should walk you through that process.
In the latter case (adding contacts, etc.), simply set up your iPhone as an iCloud device in Settings > iCloud.

  • Restoring from iOS 6 to iOS 7 - Not All Info Restores

I had to get a new phone. I backed up my iPhone 5 earlier in the morning and was still on one of the iOS 6 version. The new phone has iOS 7. When I restore it, it won't allow me to set up my email, my text messages will not transfer over and it will not let me set up Find My iPhone.  I reset the phone and set up as a new phone and it allows me to set up my email accounts. Can you restore from an old iOS 6? My iTunes was also on an old version which the tech at the Apple store told me I had to update before I can restore to the new phone.

The iOS version installed will be the most current version that your device qualifies for. iPad 2 qualifies for iOS 8.1.2 so that's what will be installed...there's no getting around that and there's no intermediate iOS option either.
You may just want to keep the device at it's current iOS version...unless you need newer apps that require iOS 7 or 8. In that case, you have no choice but to update to iOS 8.1.2.

  • HT4623 new phone old iOS PREVENTING RESTORE

Hi, I've just purchased a new iPhone 6, I recently backed up my old phone using iOS 8.1.1. Now trying to set up my new phone and it cannot restore these backups as new phone is running 8.0.2 ... How can I get round this please  .

Set up your iPhone 6 as a new device, without using a backup.  Then update it to iOS 8.1.1 as explained here: Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.  After updating, erase it (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings), then go through the setup screens again.  This time you'll be able to restore the backup to it.  More on restoring an iCloud backup: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud.

  • I have plugged my iphone into my mac computer to restore the phone and it restored then went to the start menu as a new phone does then asked if i wanted to resync from uploaded data from a previous save, then i pressed resync. and now it doesnt work.

I have had this problem before but apple didnt know how to fix the problem so they replaced the phone.
I plugged my Iphone into the computer and went into Itunes and restored the phone because it wasnt working properly. it saved my data and then when it turned itself back on after the restore it was at the main menu when u get a new phone and have to set it up, so i went along and did the normal selections as i did when setting up the phone and when it got to where you choose to set up as a new iphone or restore from previous date with data i chose the restore option, it then said i had no service and the sim card was not compatable for the phone, i turned the phone off and it still says the same thing, im not sure what to do and im very annoyed with how it has happened a second time and ive only had the new phone for about three to four weeks now if that.
    what do i do?

I went back to iOS 7 and my backup file is restoring but when its done nothing is on my phone still and only takes 11-15 minutes to restore the backup instead of taking 25+ minutes like usual so I guess the backup is corrupted. How can I fix this?

  • Restoring from iTunes backup of my 4s onto my new 5s is missing all my photo albums

My laptop is being repaired and therefore I have nothing from my iTunes library such as photo albums, music etc, except what is currently on my iPhone 4s. I may or may not be able to recover what is on my old laptop and won't know for several more weeks.
Meanwhile, I asked Apple prior to purchasing my 5s if I would be able to transfer EVERYTHING that is currently on my 4s, into it, I was told "absolutely".
So yesterday I used my friends outdated but functional laptop to download the newest iTunes and proceeded to backup my 4s. Then I restored from that backup onto my new 5s. On the first attempt the 5s was missing all photo albums (only had camera roll and videos) as well as 75% of my apps and what seemed like my entire music library! however upon closer inspection it seems to have had all of the music listed but not on the iPhone! each song had a little cloud with a downward arrow protruding from it. Not sure what that is about because the majority of my music is from discs and downloads that I manually added to my iTunes library, not from purchases made in the iTunes Store. Regardless, it does seem I have those songs available so this isn't the problem. The missing photo albums and apps is the issue. So I attempted a second restore of the same backup file. This time the apps seemed to have all come through but still no photo albums. I am now underway on my third attempt in the hopes that they will materialize the same way the missing apps did on round two. I will know in two hours when it finishes but I am not optimistic.
Can anyone help me sort this out?

Actually it only restored about 1000 of 4000 songs, so 3000 songs missing as well. And the 3rd attempt didn't yield any more songs or photo albums.

  • The Only Option in Itunes is to Restore from the Backup of OR set up a new

    Hi Everyone!
My laptop was out of battery and it powered off itself while itune was sycning and backing up my iphone.
I turned on the computer and opened itunes again... The device "Wil"(the name of my iphone) appeared in itunes but the only options I have is: SET UP AS A NEW IPHONE, or RESTORE FROM THE BACK UP OF 13/05/2010...
I cannot restore my iphone because I got tons of notes on my iphone... My iphone has:
    Iphone Notes
    Smart Notes
    Fliq Notes
    Simple Notes
    NoteMaster
I used different one to store different information.. and they are very important for me... If I restore the iphone from the back-up of 13th of May... I think I will lost most of the notes as they are not back-up by itunes... My Iphone does run normally without any problem with notes in it... I just cannot sycn or manage it through itunes...

    Hopelessness.

Thanks I still got all the notes in my iphone... but at the moment I cannot sync or manage my iphone in itunes as itunes says that I should restore my iphone or set up a new iphone...
If I do... I think I may lose all the notes which at the moment in my iphone perfectly... Itunes just does not pick up my iphone.. I tried to uninstall itunes and installed it again... but the same problem appears...
    Anyone has some ideas?!Thankssssssssssssssss!

  • TS4036 Can you restore from an earlier backup then go to a newer backup

Trying to recover some old app info need to know if I can restore to an older backup get info then go back to a newer backup

It would work, if icloud still has the older backup.  I would definitely suggest that you perform a backup to iTunes.  Many users have had problems with restores (losing pictures and other datat).  So after you are done with the older icloud backup, restore from the iTunes backup.
Even if iTunes says it’s backing up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud, all you have to do when your device is connected is right-click on it in iTunes and choose “Backup.” It’s that easy.

  • ICloud restore from iOS 6 to iOS7 problem

    Hi guys,
I have a problem, which I'm probably sure no one of you have encountered before. (But I still have hope).
    Last Saturday ( Nov 2nd ), my iPhone 5 16GB (Version 6.1.4) got stolen.
My luck was that I paid for additional storage on iCloud (25GB instead of just 5), so I can back up all my photos (more than 1300) with no worries.
On Monday, I've purchased the iPhone 5S with 32GB, running iOS 7.0.3.
After restoring my iCloud backup of the iPhone 5 (with 5.8GB of data, watch pictures below), to my new iPhone, I've waited for my photos to restore. but they didn't.
All my contacts, messages, notes, apps, settings, everything got restored, except my precious photos and videos.
What I got, is about 40 photos, which the oldest one is from Oct 6th.
I remember that from these 5.8GB of storage, about 2GB or so, belong to my photos.
What I have now, is a about 40 images, with a 5.8 of backup on my iCloud, that basically restored 3.8GB of data.
As you can see on the photos below, the iPhone 5S, has almost the same amount of GB (5.6) when it performed the restore, so I know these photos are out there somewhere.
Can anyone, please, help me out??
    Thanks a lot!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
When you restore certain data is put back onto the device and it then restarts allowing you to use it while it downloads everything else in the background. Are you sure you have given the restore enough time.

  • IPhone restore from ios 6 to ios 7

I recently bought a iPhone 5 that has a passcode lock on ios6. I wanted to know if I was to restore it to the lastest software would it have an activation lock and require me to enter the previous itunes email or would it be fresh like a new iPhone where I can setup with my itunes account touse the phone? I also wastold by 2 people it was a 50-50 chance it might or might not and another guy who seemed sure it wouldnt have an activation lock.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

    Hello Nathan,
Thank you for the question.  Activation Lock is a feature of iOS 7 and is enabled when Find My iPhone is turned on:
    How does Activation Lock work?
When you enable Find My iPhone on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 7, your Apple ID is securely stored on Apple’s activation servers and linked to your device. From that point on, your password will be required before anyone can turn off Find My iPhone on your device, erase your device, or reactivate and use your device.
Activation Lock is enabled automatically when you turn on Find My iPhone in iOS 7, or when you upgrade to iOS 7 from a previous version of iOS that has Find My iPhone already turned on.
To turn on Find My iPhone on your device:
    Go to Settings.
    Tap iCloud.
Sign in with your Apple ID, if necessary.
    Turn on Find My iPhone.
I recommend reviewing the following resources for more information on Activation Lock:

  • I cloud restore from ios 7 to ios 8

I have an Icloud backup from ios7 iphone4 and trying to restore it to my new ios8 iphone5 using only icloud (can not use iTunes), it does not allow me to use this backup, only shows me other apple devises backups which i do not want. Help?

You cannot restore a backup made with a newer version to a device with an older version, however, the other way around works. If it says no backups available that usually means that either the Apple ID is wrong or the previous phone had not been backed up to iCloud. Note that you can back up to a computer or to iCloud automatically, but not both. The two backups are not the same. You can back up to one automatically and the other manually, however.

  • New phone/old iOS?

    Hello!
In anticipation of upgrading from my 4S at some point, and unhappy with many visual elements of iOS7 (as it appears now), I'm wondering if it's possible to install iOS5 or iOS6 on an iPhone 5.  I'm currently running iOS5.1.1 (and am very happy with it, thank you very much). Is the OS backed up along with the phone's content, allowing a transfer/restore of both the content and the iOS?  Or are older iOS's available in some other way?
    Thanks,
    David

iOS 7 has not been released yet and will not be until sometime this fall. All new iPhones sold as of right now and for the next couple of months at least will come with iOS 6.
Downgrading versions of iOS is not supported on any iPhone, so in the future when phones start shipping with iOS 7, it will not be possible to downgrade the phone to iOS 6, not officially, anyway. There are hacks that in some cases allow downgrading but if problems arise you're on your own.
    Regards.
