Restore from previous back up.

i wish to restore a backup from one a few backups previous, but in itunes when the drop down list comes up of which backups to choose from, the one i want isnt there, only more recent ones. how do i get the backup i want?

iTunes is designed to offer you a restore of the most recent back up created, not a previous back up... Youd need to locate the back up file stored on your PC or Mac and then remove the ones accept the one you want to use...this is not really recommended though... why are you wanting to use an older backup??

The password would be either your iTunes ID password or your admin password for the Computer.

  • Taking over 24 hours to restore from a back-up

I have an iphone 3G; It got unplugged while it was updating the new software and would not turn on. Itunes support walked me through plugging it back in and trying to restore it and then back it up from a previous back-up. Unfortunately, at this point, all data has been erased and it has been restoring from a back-up for many many hours. It was progressing slowly, but has not moved at all in the past 9 hours. What is going on? I need my data!

Possibly a corrupt backup. It should not take nearly that long (less than 30 minutes, or up to an hour if you are re-syncing a lot of music/video).

  • Restored via iCloud but when plugged in laptop asks me to restore from previous or start as new phone

SSo when in Apple store they re stored my iPhone via iCloud but now I want to put music on to it but when I plug it in it asks me to either start as new phone or restore from previous(which I don't want to do)

I have a very similar problem.
My new iPhone 5 won't let me in at all. It asks the same questions as you have, wanting to set up as new or from Backup, and I choose From Backup.  Then we just go round and round in circles; the iPhone insists on synchronising with iTunes over and over and over again even when it's just finished.
I connected the new iPhone 5s to iTunes and it appeared to Sync. According to iTunes my new iPhone now contains the music, and apps that my old iPhone 3G had had previously. iTunes indicated  that the phone was about a third full of music and stuff.
If I press the button on the iPhone, while connected to iTunes, the iPhone  asks my country etc, I get to choose whether to restore or start as new. Choose Restore and it wants to connect to iTunes (again). I can Sync again but I still can't get further forward.
If I disconnect the iPhone before pressing its button, I get Hello and then it says to connect to iTunes (again). I plug it into my laptop, iTunes finds it , backs it up again, and I can sync it or restore it again as often as I like.
I'm going to see if I can choose Restore Backup (? a stupid oxymoron, Restore Backup indded; I assume it means restore FROM backup otherwise we're in trouble). Then I'll look for anearlier backup as sberman suggests. What sberan says certainly makes sense.

  • Camera Roll not restoring from iCloud back-up

Due to an extremely large amount of "other" on my iPhone 5 I decided to reset / delete and restore from iCloud. Camera roll IS turned on in my cloud back-up, and I backed it up just before reset / delete phone.
When I restore from iCloud back-up everything works perfectly except my camera roll reloading. It just continues to say 'Downloading" (with the little circle thing going round & round) with no change or progress. It never says "downloadng xx of xxx" or anything like that. The photo stream has restored with no problem.
I hope I can restore the camera roll because it has videos that aren't saved anywhere else, but if not how the heck do I stop the "downloading..." at the bottom of the camera roll folder and get on with my life? Any help will be much appreciated.

Actually I posted here only after trying ezjules suggestions  No luck.  Even stranger is that even after I "stopped restoring" my camera roll is acting the same,; still says Downloading at the bottom. Strange.. Here is a screen shot after I have stopped the restore in settings.

  • HT201263 new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop

new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop
tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the same

    The definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name?  How do you know it isn't restored?   Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device.    Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore.

  • I restored my iPhone 5 to IOS 7.1 on computer and tried to restore from icloud back up. It says "restore completed" but Apple logo keeps popping up every 5 seconds. It restored only contacts and sms. I can access the phone but have to stop if logo pops

    Hello khanhlinh98,
I would recommend performing the following steps in order to stabilize your iPhone.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

  • I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone

I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back up. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone option. But I already have it restored. How come it's not giving me any option to cancel.

Click set up as a new iPhone. It will associate the device with your library without clearing the content that you have already loaded onto it.

  • I upgraded to ios6 on ipod touch and after I completed a sync on my PC but I suppose it did not sync, because now it will not restore from a back up and wants to restore from another account that I have saved.  Can I some how restore from the apps?

I upgraded to ios6.1.3 on ipod touch and after I completed a sync on my PC but I suppose it did not sync, because now it will not restore from a back up and wants to restore from another account that I have saved.  Can I some how restore the apps to avoid having to pay for them again and having to recreate settings?

As I said, the backup that iTunes makes does not include apps (and music) if those items where not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you restored they will not be on the iPod.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

You can keep trying to restore the device from backup until you remember the password. If you're having trouble, try:
    Leaving the password field blank
    Your Apple ID password
Your computer account password, if you have one
Email passwords you may have used
    Your Wi-Fi network password
Website passwords you may have used
A password for hard-disk encryption software, if you use it
