Restore ical data

Hi,
I have restored my User\library folder in Lion from a TM backup.  -  in fact I restored the whole user folder.
Long story -  I wanted to go back to SL but found I couldn't extract my mail from TM and so have restored with the intention of doing a manual backup of each folder before attempting a SL install again.
I can't seem to find my ICS file for restoring ICAL, can anyone help me understand how to restore before doing a manual backup
thanks

Solved it!
I had been trying to get the data into iCal by manipulating the folders in Library. It was simpler than that, although I don't know why iCal didn't recognize the data I moved to those folders. But, that's a moot point now. All I did was drag all of the individual data files onto the open iCal window and Bingo, they all showed up.
However, what I also don't understand is why all that data, that I thought I had deleted, was sitting in Library but iCal wasn't reading it. I can only guess that there is some sort of marker on the folders or there is info in the plist file to tell iCal what to read. Oh well, again, a moot point. I have all my appointments back.

    Yes.

  • How do I restore iCal data from a Time Machine back-up?

Recently, all my iCal data disappeared, possibly due my efforts to unlink iCal from Google calendars.
I have read posts here, and have tried restoring ~/Library/Calendars in its entirety from a Time Machine back-up from about a week ago, where data definitely existed .... however, iCal remains empty. What am I doing wrong?

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Restore it from your backup.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Unable to restore iCal data after total loss due to iCloud

I believe iCloud is the cause for all my iCal data dissapearing. I have time machine running but am still not able to restore my iCal Data. I can not find the iCal data in the TimeMachine. Any suggestions?

iCal data can be found in the Time Machine backups here: ~/Library/Calendars
Find this folder in your Time Machine interface, choose it, click "Restore" and then "Replace" when prompted.
When you exit Time Machine and go back into iCal all the entries should look the same as the day you chose to restore them from.
If you don't have a backup.......sorry. There's no magic trick to bring it back. I've noticed that the preferred order of operations for first time iCloud syncing goes like this:
Set up iCloud on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Log in at iCloud.com and make sure everything is correct on the site.
Set up iCloud on your Mac/PC.
No iOS device? Just make sure you have a backup or you export the calendars to a safe place before setting up iCloud on your computer. You may need to import your backups after the initial iCloud sync.

  • Osx 10.8 How to restore ical data

Mac Pro, 10.8. Something I did in Bento wiped all my ical entries. The drive is backed up but where would I find the data to replace it?

Thanks for your response. I'd read about that approach (a PDF on MacRumours descibing the process), but I'm wondering if I'll be re-introducing older Lion and Snow Leopard elements like folder locations and such if I do it this way.
Will ML migrate it to the standard location and treat it as though this data had been generated within ML all along?
Also, I should add, I'm doing this install because I pooched my Lion Server and had to restore from a Time Machine backup. Now everything is messed up and unreliable. Turns out Time Machine doesn't back up iCal events for users! So this is why I'm trying to do this as clean as possible.

  • Restoring iCal data

    Hi all,
My wife's MacBookPro recently died. It wasn't backed up. Yes. I know. And believe me, so does she.
We have managed to retrieve all (I hope) the data from the hard drive, and we now have a shiny new MackBookPro.
My question is what is the best way to restore/migrate this data to the new machine? The most important item is to get iCal up and running as this has all my wife's business appointments on it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob
The retrieved data was from a machine running 10.6.8, the new machine will be running the latest version of Lion 10.7.3

  • My ical data has disappeared

My ical data has disappeared on both my iPhone 5 and my desktop.  I have never used Time Machine and when I go there all it does is ask me to set it up.  Anyone help restore iCal data to previous settings?

Thank you.  You may have been right about the server glitch.  After hours, literally, on the phone with Support trying to load the calendar from my phone, and finally giving up, my calendar on the website was magically restored 24 hours later.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one this happened to, and that they restored to an earlier version for me and whomever else's data was lost.  Pretty scary, actually -- and annoying!
    Thanks again for your help.

  • ICal data backup

Is there any way to restore iCal data from iCloud if you haven't gone through the back up process? The last Calendar archive file on my desktop is from the day I started using iCloud in January.

Boot your old Mac in Firewire target disk mode.
To use FireWire target disk mode:
    1. Make sure that the target computer is turned off. If you are using a PowerBook or iBook as the target computer, you should also plug in its AC power adapter.
    2. Use a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer does not need to be turned off.
    3. Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Then restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
    4. When you are finished copying files, drag the target computer's hard disk icon to the Trash or select Put Away from the File menu (Mac OS 9) or Eject from the File menu (Mac OS X).
    5. Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    6. Unplug the FireWire cable.
If the target computer's hard disk does not become available to the host computer, check the cable connections and restart the host computer.
This user tip may help you.
EDIT: I read that wrong. I thought you were moving to a new Mac. Too early, not enough coffee
The user tip may still help. You say you can't boot up from the external but can you read it?

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • Can I restore a single calendar archive to iCal without replacing my current ical data in other calendars?

I archived an iCal calendar.  When I went to import it back into iCal, a message says "The iCal backup “abcd.icbu” will replace your current iCal data. You can’t undo this action."  Will it replace ALL my current iCal data, or just any data in a calendar labeled "abcd"?

    imci,
As the warning says: "...will replace your current iCal data." All of your current data will be overwritten with the .icbu file.
I presume that you do not want to do that.
One method of accomplishing the integration without losing current data, is to use iCal>File>Export>Export... for each one of your current calendars. That method will create .ics files for the individual calendars. After creating those .ics files and saving them to a suitable location, you can then use the .icbu file to restore from the archive.
After the archive restoration is complete, you can go to the saved location and double click on the .ics files. You will be offered a choice to create a new calendar, or integrate into an existing calendar. Use the choice appropriate for your situation.

  • I lost my MacBook calendar when I performed the action required by 5 May although I have all information on my iPhone and iPad. How do I restore the data on my iCal calendar?

I have performed all the relevant actions required before 5 May to conform with Apple instructions. I have lost my calendar on my MacBook although all is still OK on my iPhone and iPad. I have tried various ways to restore the data including going to MobileMe but I have been unsuccessful. I have tried to merge the information from my iPhone but this did not work either. My Contacts and mail are all OK. Coincidentally I am also unable to access my external hard drive which is working in itself (it is warm and whirrs when activated) but my back ups are failing. Any ideas out there?

  • Is there a way to recover iCal data from computer or iPhone backup through iTunes?

I  synched my iPad  with my computer and my ALL of my iCal information disappeared from my computer. I tried put my calendar information back on my computer from my iPhone, but instead the reverse happened, and all of my calendar information disappeared from my iPhone, too.
I am using an older MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.4, an iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPod Touch, all using iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). I regularly use iCal on my iPhone and on my computer, but not on the iPad and iPod Touch.
I do not use iCloud because my personal calendar and contact information was appearing on other family member's iPhones. (We share an iTunes library in under my Apple ID, and I did not want to create a different Apple ID for iCloud yet.).
Is there a way to recover my iCal info on my computer? Or alternatively, could I recover it on my iPhone from my iTunes backups (my iTunes backups are encrypted)?
Of course, I learned my lesson, and if I recover my data, I will back up my calendar daily, but for now, valuable information is lost, and I would like to recover it if at all possible.
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You'll have to confirm with the developer of Keeper whether the data is stored as part of the iPhone backup or not. If it is, then restoring the iPhone from your latest back should restore the data to Keeper. My guess, though, is that since the free version of Keeper won't allow you to create a backup, the data is not part of the iTunes backup and hence won't be restored.
    Regards.

  • How can I restore iCal using the calendars on my iPhone

I recently purchased a new iPhone and decided that this was maybe the time I should sign up for iCloud. What resulted was nothing short of havoc. Duplicate calendars, contacts, reminders, you name it, a giant mess. In the process of getting this all cleaned up I  have accidentally erased some of the many duplicates flying back and forth with my original data on it. I am now left with an iPhone that still has all my calendars, dates and reminders, but my iPad and, more importantly, my desk computer are left without anything at all.
I tried to synch with iTunes, but that didn't help. The only way I can get an event back on to my desk computer is if I edit on my iPhone and then it is obviously pushed back to the computer. I tried restoring the Library/Calendars file with Time Machine just to get back to 6 hours ago. Nothing doing. iCal remains as empty as it was before. But it now has three Calendars files all with different time stamps.
Is there a way that I can push all iCal data back to my desk computer via iCloud?
I am doubly frustrated with this as I rely on my calendar to bill my customers the hours I write into the calendar after I've been with them, plus I seem to have exchanged the safe, if a bit cumbersome, synching via iTunes with something that is not up to par.
Can anybody help me out of my predicament? I am terribly grateful for any suggestions
    Tom

Hi, On both of your devices, go onto Settings>iCloud> Calanders [On]
You need to make sure your signed into the same iCloud account though!

  • Transferring iCal dates, info, etc from old drive into a new iCal ?

My G5 died finally and I had to replace it w/a new drive. Apple Genius was able to recover all my old files thank god but I am now having the unfortunate task of trying to get everything back in order. In particular iCal. I see all the dates and stuff I'd like to just drag and drop but that's not working. What advice can someone give for trying to update older information from iCal, w/out having to copy/paste manually everything little thing? I want to get everything in order before I use Time Machine to back up everything up on this new drive.
    THANKS!!!

You can do two different things that have worked for me in the past. You can export the calendars you want (File-->Export...) Then just import that file on the new computer.
Or you can back up iCal (File-->Back up iCal...) then use that file to restore iCal in the new calendar. When I did a restore in my new calendar it did not have ANY info so I don't know if a restore completely replaces everything in the current calendar files as well...but if you are starting fresh you may be OK>
    Hope that helps.
