Restore iChat

I'm running version 2.1.3. When I set up iChat recently, I mistakenly chose AIM Screen Name as login type and now, as my screen name is really a .mac it won't allow me to connect. Is there any way to restore iChat so I can run the initial setup again. The problem is I don't have my original system discs to simply re-install the software. This is driving me nuts - any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Panther.
See the second box of pics
http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page2.html
In the right hand side is the Panther and Tiger of the iChat Account Preferences.
Yours should look like the smaller pic at the top.
Use the DROP DOWN to Add the correct account name first.
Alternatively you can use the Clear Option and then add the new/correct account/screen name.

  • Restore ichat history after system restore

Haven't found a usable solution to this problem yet, so help is greatly appreciated.
How do you restore all of your iMessage (iChat) conversations after retiring your Mac to an earlier point in time.  Specifically, I used Time Machine to return my iMac  to OS X 10.10.1.  Was at 10.10.3 (beta 2).  When I launch Messages, conversations are present as they were during the TM backup of 10.10.1.  So from this point I wish to return all the documents, photos, music, messages, etc. to the point prior to the system restore (10.10.3 b2).  Everything can be restored by use of TM for the folders, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures.  But I can not get messages to restore.
Used various methods seen on various forums,  i.e. use TM and restore ~/Library/Messages; /com.apple.iChat,  but to no avail..  Tried various combinations of logging out/in of massages; iCloud, restarting the computer,  again with no avail.  I usually end up with all of the list of those that I sent a message to but no messages.
I believe there is some magical, specific order in which to do this successfully.  I haven't found it yet.
    HELP!
    & Thx

    Hi,
I have not delved deep enough to say which item actually holds the list of active Chats or Conversations in the side bar.
The chat.db item itself is the one that hold the "history" that shows up when your start a chat with someone you have chatted to before in iMessages.
You need to have Saved Chats  in the Archive folder for this to work with AIM, Jabber, Yahoo and Bonjour Buddies.
Apple's own documentation tends to refer to iMessages as Conversations and any other account as Chats.
The exception now being SMS/text which the app Links to iMessages.
If you just Restore the whole computer to the last day you ran OS X 10.10.1 then it should have all the Chats/Conversations you were having that day.
However changing them by effectively Importing the newer ones (those up to the last time you used OS X 10.10.3beta) will upset things.

  • IChat video chat not working

    I am using iChat v 4.0.9 . I am using OS X 10.5.8
I have used video chat with no problems until today. I can only audio chat. I get a message saying "this Computer does not support video conferencing." I can use my iSight find in photo booth. I do not have internet sharing enabled. The bandwidth limit is greyed out under my iChat preferences along with Automatically open iChat when external camera is turned on. I saw on one forum to delete an ichat file in the USB folder (?) -- I am at a loss. Any assistance would be appreciated. ~ K

    Welcome to Discussions, sleepholow
Have you tried shutting everything down and restarting your modem, router (if you use one), and Mac in that order? Let each self-test complete before restarting the next device. A modem/router restart usually restores iChat video for me without need for other action.

  • IChat has died

Yesterday, my iChat decided to die. I don't think I changed or did anything to provoke it. Whenever I go to open it, it just bounces and then unexpectedly quits before anything can show up. I've tried just about everything I could find online to fix it.
    I tried:
    •Trashing prefs
•Launching from a different user (no dice)
•Restoring iChat and it's various elements from Time Machine
    •Selectivly re-installing iChat via Pacifier
    •Archive & Install
•Restoring my entire system from Time Machine from a 2-day old backup (when iChat was working)
I'm starting to feel it may be a hardware issue- though I can't imagine what. Being on a Mac Pro, I don't have a built-in iSight or any sort of camera attached. Other than that I just have my keyboard, mouse, iPhone dock and a Logitech NuLooq attached and they never caused an issue before.
I would very much like to avoid doing a full nuke and pave install.
I can't think of anything else to do.
Here's the readout from my iChat crash console:

Any Chance the Bluetooth is using a phone as a modem ?
Any chance there is another network showing as in use in System Preferences > Network ?
I did not see Chax in the Binary Images.
How did you install the first time ?
Was that Archive and Install ?
Do you still have iChat 3 somewhere on the Disk/Drive ?
Try shutting down the computer with no internet connection (shut down any Airport card before and remove ethernet afterwards)
    Restart the computer.
    Will iChat restart now ?
If it does then reconnect internet.
If not run the Bold text below in Terminal when IChat is Quit. Hit ent after Copy and pasting
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7
This will attept to start ichat and create a log in doing so.
    Copy log and post here.
    Quit iChat if it Started.
    Quit Terminal

  • Fix for iChat Screen Sharing Problem I was Having

Okay, I just thought I'd chime in and try to help some people from going through the frustration that I recently went through with iChat in Leopard. Here's my story.
iChat screen sharing used to work for me and suddenly one day it stopped working correctly... lemme explain. I would let someone share my screen, and it would start working and they would wave their mouse around and 10 seconds later, it will freeze and lose connection with a timeout.
At first I thought it was a firewall issue but, after thinking about it.... I thought, how could it be if it was working for 10 seconds and suddenly stopped? If it was a firewall issue, it wouldn't work at all. Then I thought maybe my iChat app got corrupted, so I used Time Machine (yay!) to restore iChat from one of the first days I got Leopard. That didn't work. So then I figured my preferences got corrupt, so I deleted my com.apple.ichat.plist file and still didn't work. I was so mad that Apple made this feature basically useless for me until I had a crazy hunch.
After an hour if pulling out my hair, I finally had an idea of what might be causing the crash... I noticed I had my old iSight plugged in (the external firewire iSight) into my Apple Cinema Display. I unplugged it and iChat screen sharing worked PERFECTLY. You should also know that I don't have problems with my iSight, it works well on Video Chat and Audio Chat and even presentation mode but, it screwed up screen sharing.
In conclusion, if you're experiencing sudden connection losses with iChat screen sharing, check to see if you have an iSight plugged into your Mac and unplug it.
    Also, you're welcome.

    Thomson-Alcatel 780 modem.
Unfortunately this is going to needs a new modem (or Bridge this one and have a router)
    Read this section http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page4a.html#_text
Although the SIP Binding to port 5060 in this device could be UnBound in Version 4 firmware it has not been fully Unbound in Version 5 or 6 (Despite the version 5/6 instructions further down that section).
The problem can make the iChat issue look intermittent with it working with some Buddies and not others.
Getting a new modem that does not have SIP binding is the only realistic way around the issue (Or setting the device to Bridge and having another router)

  • Problems with iChat 4.0.2 / Leopard / BT HomeHub

I have a .Mac account and iChat 4 on a iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 and using A BT Home Hub for my internet connection. I am able to have a video chat with my wife who has a Powerbook / Leopard / iChat 4 set up in our house, both using the BT Home Hub. But when I try to set up a video chat with my friend in Copenhagen who has a .Mac account and a Powerbook running Leopard it won't let us connect. It will let us have a text only chat.
I have read various posts on this subject and changed the firewall to let iChat in, changed the Quicktime streaming to 1.5 Mbps and changed the port in iChat server settings to 443.
Has anyone else any ideas, I am thinking maybe the Home Hub is the problem as i can connect to my wife's Powerbook on our home network.

I too am having problems with iChat 4.02 on an iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 as are numerous people having different hardware/software configurations. I've tried some of the suggestions like changing the server settings to 443, and changing the firewall to let iChat in. I believe somewhere, somehow Apple or AOL have changed something that may be causing these problems. I'm not technical enough to go changing a bunch of things and hope it works.
iChat was working for me about a week or so ago using AIM. I could video chat with a MacBook running 10.5.2, a MacBook Pro running Tiger and a Dell PC. Last night when I tried using AIM and iChat i could only text. However, I could video chat using our dotmac accounts and server settings 5190. But for some reason you aren't able to do that.
At first I thought it was because I stumbled into using CUPS to get my Xerox color laser printer finally working (after getting the new iMac) by changing localhost:631 to find my printer at port 9100 (whatever all of this means). But deleting the printer didn't restore iChat.
Someone on this forum suggested that installing Safari 3.1.1 may have somehow caused the problem. Maybe they are on to something!
My most recent software updates are:
    2008-04-08 15:27:20 -0400: Installed "AirPort Utility" (5.3.1)

    2008-04-16 17:47:09 -0400: Installed "Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update" (1.0)
    2008-04-16 17:47:26 -0400: Installed "Safari" (3.1.1)
    2008-04-23 19:31:31 -0400: Installed "iMac EFI Firmware Update" (1.3)
At the moment I need my printer working, more than I need iChat. But I do hope someone figures out why this isn't working!

  • Messages beta no longer allows iMessage

  • Cannot Log into AIM account after multiple tries

This problem is a nightmare. I really do appreciate the support. Unfortunatly the fix is only temporary. Here is what is going on and what Fixes I have tried.
The problem is on my parents G5 power PC (~2006)
They have an AOL AIM account.
Ichat worked great for about 4 months.
Then the problems occurred (Can not log into AIM account after mutliple tries).
    We have tried:
Switching to port 443 - this has not worked ever time we have tried it.
Deleting iChat.plist, iChatAgent.plist, and iChatAIM.plist (left the other ichat plists alone like Jabber, Agent, Subnet, etc)
This this restores ichat for about a day then back to the same problem.
We have also tried running disk utlity and repairing permissions and get it going for day some times.
Not sure what else is causing it to drop out and having to delete this times again and again? Any ideas?

    On the Netgear
The Access IP is normally 192.168.0.1 and the User ID is admin and the password is password when the pop down appears.
----Under SYSTEM PREFERENCES>NETWORK It shows Airport Connected to "Netgear 192.168.1.3" do not see User ID or password on the screen?
In the menu on the left the last (or near last item) is UPnP.
    Check this is Enabled.
----Do not see this listed anywhere
About two thirds of the way down the menu is WAN Set up
In hear Disable the Port Scan Line (It will read DOS (or SPI) and Port Scan)
There is another Line about "Blocking Responses to Ping on the WAN port" this needs to be Disabled as well (IChat sends a Ping to confirm where the Visible Invite went to is where the SIP stuff (In the Log about the error) is coming back from).
    On the DNS info.
This should be two IP address normally that are on the Internet.
These should appear on the RCA if it is accessible in a web Browser but more likely on the Router's Set Up pages (or Some sort of Summary page).
A 192.168.x.x address points to the Router (I would guess in this case) and whilst some routes can be DNS servers as well it is not that common and is only really useful to link a MAC (Ethernet and/or WiFi Card - Media Access Card Address) info to a Name for the Computers that are attached.
----Not sure where to find all this in OS 10.5.8
----Under System Preferences>Network with Airport highlighted I click advanced and go to TCP/IP is see two addresses the ipv4 = 192.168.1.3 and the router=192.168.1.1
(I have presumed that there are no other DNS servers are listed and the 192.166 bit was a typo)
---Correct i put a typo as i was not sure if it was secure to post.
If the Computer can do Wifi as well as Ethernet it should not have both Connected to the Router at the same time. (iChat "Sees" it as two Connections to the Internet).
--- The computer is only connected via Airport to the netgear router.

  • Ichat deleted itself. Now I restored it and it says I can't use it.

So the other day I opened my computer after coming back from a trip. I had just used ichat the night before I left, but then I get home and the application is nowhere to be found on my computer. The icon is on the dock but a (?) just pops up over the icon when i click it.
Now that I restored it from the original discs that came with my computer, it is saying I can't use it. My guess is that it is doing this because I have OS X Snow Leopard, but my restore discs are back from tiger. I bought my computer when they had just released Leopard and instead of selling them pre-installed they just put a Leopard disc in the box for you to do a DIY install.
Anyone have ideas as to what I can do?

Do you have the Snow Leopard disk.

  • No iChat Icons after Time Machine Restore

I wasn't sure if this should go in the iChat thread...
After doing a restore from a Time Machine backup, I seem to no longer get iChat buddy icons. All the buddy icons display the generic AIM yellow guy (save one who is showing the blue globe). The icons of course display correctly on a different machine. I've tried several things to restore these. Deleting and re-adding buddies, adding new buddies, etc. I was going to uninstall and reinstall iChat but I don't think that's possible without reinstalling the entire OS. I found it particularly odd when adding a new buddy it continues to display the generic icon. I'm not sure what this entails, if the the iChat prefs are corrupted or what. I hoped there would be some easy fix for this, and perhaps there is. All I know for sure is that this occurred after restoring from a Time Machine backup.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

    Hello Pondini,
    this tip works -> (#E8)
If it still won't start, install OSX from your Snow Leopard Install disc (that won't affect anything else).  See  Installing the "combo" update and/or Reinstalling OSX for details and instructions.

  • IChat & Restoring In-Progress Chat After Quit

    Hi
iChat used to have the ability where if I was in the middle of a chat and I accidentally quit, that chat would be restored when I re-opened it... very handy IMHO...
Sometime in the past this went away for me (SL, maybe? Not Sure)... last night I was messin' around and enabled 'In New Chat Windows, Show Last Chat'...
This seems to be very similar to what I used to see, except that now it literally restores the last chat - even one that I had previously closed...
Did Apple just change this OR is there another option somewhere?
    Thanks!
    -Justin

    Hi,
    Apple Changed it.
Saving Chats is needed to be on and it has the new sub option of displaying the Last Chat or a number of Last IMs
Note:- Cycling through these and then back to Last Chat will then display the Last IM Only.
Last Chat will open the last chats the Software can find with the Buddy you highlight in the Buddy List even if this is in a Group chat.
    (Similar for Last (x) IMs)
It does seem that if you Quit iChat with a chat open it sometimes (I Repeat - Sometimes) will seem to re-open the Chat that was open at the time iChat was Quit.
Mine appears to work like this but others report they cannot get their's to do this.
I would say that it does seem to depend a little on gaining some History to Saved Chats.
The other thing is I updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard so the .plist may hold the info that the "Remember Last Chat" is to be remembered is still in there.
Obviously if you can't remember who you were talking to last the Recent Items list will show you.

  • Restore/Repair Jabberd / iChat server after power failure

    SLS 10.6.1 on Mac Mini.
I've had this happen twice, but in different ways. We've had some storms come through and knock the power out recently. Everything seems to come back online fine, except for iChat server (jabberd of course). The first time, I was getting errors about c2s and sm not being able to connect to, well, itself. I was never able to actually fix those, I have to reinstall the whole system.
This time I'm getting similar errors where the system isn't talking to itself properly. Here is the log from clicking "Start iChat" to trying to connect from client.

This is what it does when I try to connect from a client. The client just keeps getting a username/password prompts over and over. (12.34.56.78 is of course a made up IP) It will do this repeatedly with a different port number, going higher and higher. In some cases it will add "is being rate limited" This will just loop and loop until I shut iChat and Push Notifications down.

Is all of that supposed to bind to 127.0.0.1? Another posting on here said to try and reinstall just the serveressentials.pkg from the disc. I tried that on a previous install and it didn't seem to do anything. Is there any kind of repair or restore script that can be run in situations like power failures where the thing doesn't shut down gracefully? jabberd seems pretty delicate.
    Thanks in advance

  • IChat is opening with a blank window and greyed menu items after I did a full restore from time machine (OS 10.9)

I recently did a full restore of my system from a time machine backup. Now the only thing that doesn't work is iChat. It opens with grey menu items and when a window finally appears it is blank. I tried deleting preferences files and the message cache, and I tried refreshing the keychain but nothing works.
I'm using the mid-2013 MacBook Air with the latest OS.

    HI,
OS X 10.9.x does not have iChat
It has Messages which can do all the thing iChat did (minus iChat Theater) but with new interface that tends to highlight the use of the iMessages account which was added at Mountain Lion (Messages 7.x)
Was the machine running OS X 10.9.x before the back up ?
Have you tried starting in Safe Mode ?
If this work then Restart normally.
This restore from a Backup, is it using the same Mac User account ?
(i.e. have you "migrated" some stuff to a new Mac User Account)

  • Restore old .iChat files without chat.db File

Is this possible? I have years of iChat's backed up but can't seem to restore them. I've been scouring the internet and now see I needed the chat.db file which I don't have.
If anyone can help me if really appreciate it. I'm on OSX Mavericks

    Hi,
    You need two places.
~/Library/Messages is where the chat.db items (plural) are that fill in the "history" when you start chatting to an iMessages contact.
This will happen irrespective if you have Saved Chats.
The other place in Mavericks is ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.ichat/Data/Library/Messages/Archive
At the moment you upgrade to Mavericks  then your Saved Chats  are moved from ~/Library/Messages to this new place.
You will notice that the container sort of lists the same folder layout but it is just deeper in the folder stack.
You can access this User's Library by holding down the ALT key whilst using the Finder > Go Menu and then selecting the Library that appears.
Some people report that if you take all the Contents out of the Container... .../Archive and place it on the Desktop then restart Messages you can then replace the contents and restart Messages again and it seems to then "See" the Saved Chats properly.

  • The mother of all iChat AV problems

All the computers listed below can text chat among themselves but almost all of them cannot audio or video iChat AV with each other.
I hope you can follow along, as this will get very complicated. It is a hard story to tell.
I have been working on this for about 3 weeks now. I have read just about every post in the past 3 weeks. A 2nd Level Apple Tech Support person said I should post this for all to read because it encompasses so many problems all at once without any results and I have some interesting situations. I have tried every single suggestion in the forum without any results. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple iChat support, 2nd level Apple support and Linksys support. I’m an experienced iChat AV person and have been video conferencing for 10 years, starting back with CU-SeeMe. Actually did Beta testing for that CODEC. At the end of this, I will tell you what I haven’t tried yet, and it’s only one thing. And Ralph Jones of the UK, I have read every page of your website about ichat AV and tried everything on it. Thanks for the good work along with everyone else.
I’m the tech administrator for a Day Care Center. At the Day Care Center there are 15 Macs; 12 new 14 inch iBooks - 1.3 GHz with 756 MB RAM, one -15inch PowerBook 1 GHZ with 1 Gig RAM., an iMac 1 GHz with 1 Gig RAM, and one – 17inch 1.67 GHz PowerBook with 1 Gig of RAM.
    My office has 2 Macs using iChat AV, a PowerBook 400 Titanium – 500 MB RAM and a G5 – Dual 2GHz – 3500 MB RAM.
All ADSL connections, all Verizon DSL. There are 8 different locations involved in this. 7 locations are using Linksys WRT54G routers, version 2 and 5’s, all updated to the latest firmware. My office is using a Linksys WRT54GS version 1 also updated to the latest firmware. 7 locations are using Westell 2200 DSL modems, and the one residential location that is DHCP is using a Westell 6100 Modem, the 6100 is set to default settings.
7 locations have static IP’s from the ISP and the 8th location is DHCP direct from Verizon (a typical residential set-up). Each location has 2 computers associated with it, all with iSight cameras. All 17 computers are using iChat AV through an AIM account.
All the computers are running OS 10.4.3 and are up to date as of this posting, including the J2SE 5.0 ver. 3 update and the Security Update 2005-009.
At my office and the office of the Day Care Center, all the computers are designated with a static IP. At the other locations the computers are DHCP, set to automatically get an IP from the router.
In all attempts to video iChat with all the computers, whenever an attempt is made, the 2 computers always get a video preview window and they say, “Starting video chat with …”, but then the dreaded responses always follow after trying to accept; “Did not respond”, “Fail to start video chat”, or “Cancelled the connection.”
So first, my office and the Day Care Office (DCO) have been video conferencing for over 1 year with iChat AV, but now we can no longer video chat. The only thing that changed was at both locations the routers went form an older Linksys WAP54G (A, B, & G) router to the WRT54GS ver. 1 at my office and a WRT54G ver.2 at the DCO a while ago. I can no longer video conference to the DCO nor can they video conference to me between any combination of the 4 computers at the 2 locations (a G5, PB 400, PB 1 GHz, iMac 1 GHz.). Not to long ago they all could video iChat with each other.
My office (with both computers) can iChat with the one location that is DHCP (the Verizon residential setup – both routers set to their defaults, no special stuff). But I can only video conference with the iBook not the PowerBook. In reverse, the iBook can call me but the PB can not. I have brought the PowerBook back to my office and it can video iChat back to the iBook at it’s location from the PowerBook that came from that location. The PB can even connect to my 2 computers on my router at my office. We did a 3 way to the iBook with my G5 hosting, the PowerBook at my office and the iBook at it’s location. When I take the PoweBook back to it’s original location (where the iBook is – the residential location) it can’t video conference with my office, no matter who calls whom.
In the remaining 6 locations, none of the computers can iChat with any of the other locations at all. I have only been able to iChat with the one location that is the Verizon DHCP location (residential setup) and only to the iBook not the PowerBook.
Now to get even weirder, as I said each location has at least 2 computers. At each of the 7 locations (but not my office), the 2 computers at that location, on the same router, can iChat between themselves over AIM (not BonJour) but they can not video chat with any of the other 7 locations.
All 17 computers connect correctly to the Apple iChat test sites: appleU3test01 and appleU3test03 at very good speeds. Oh speaking of speeds, when I first thought maybe it was a connection speed problem, I checked each location by downloading a file off the ISP’s server to check actual speeds, no connection is slower than 75 KB/s, most are plus 150 KB/s downloading the file. I tried 5 different DSL speed websites such as DSLReports.com and they are so inaccurate for testing speeds, they’re not worth using. I would get variations of speeds sometimes 400 to 500 Kbps difference between web services from the same computer at basically the same time.
To recap, my office G5 can only chat with one computer of the 17, the iBook at the Verizon residential setup. The PowerBook from the residential setup can chat back to its home connection to the iBook from my office only. None of the other computers can chat with each other from one location to the other. All the computers (except my G5 and the one iBook) can only chat with the other computer that is located on the same router.
I have concentrated on trying to get my office and the DCO connected. I have tried everything. That’s why after talking with Apple about this, the tech said to post this. Not many people will have so many computers simultaneously to work with. He even said I tried everything.
The one thing I haven’t tried is removing the Linksys router from both ends of a connection and just go through the Westell Modem. There is too much involved changing over the 2 offices or the other locations with all the computers at each location. I can’t afford to experiment that way with working business situations. These are not home environments.
I’m still not sure if the problem is an Apple thing with the latest updates or a router problem because the firmware updates have installed a lot of security stuff. I never had to even consider Port Forwarding or anything. iChat AV with the Linksys routers in their default settings just worked.
One odd thing I noticed while I did all this testing, if you have 2 computers at the same location that both have the same apple test site in the buddy list (example: appleU3test01) when one connects to the test site, the other computer lists the buddy as in use, and the second computer can not connect to it. As soon as the first computer disconnects, it becomes available to the second computer. You would think the test site can handle multiple people at the same time. In addition, each computer can connect to a different test site at the same time over the same router. I don’t know what it means, I just found it interesting.
    Thanks for listening,
    Jim

EZ Jim & Ralph, I appreciate your suggestions.
EZ - I have not had time to view entirely your website on ichat. It looks pretty complete. Too busy. Equipment conflicts I don't believe I have any. There is nothing on any of the computers except the iSight camera. No other external or internal equipment added. Very little software other than Microsoft Office 2004 and a cople of other things. They are not loaded with stuff, pretty basic.
Also each little network location works fine, the only thing I'm having trouble with is Video Chat. They all text chat to each other just fine, including the Windows machines (some locations have windows xp machines only).
Ralph - first - each Day Care location is in a different building around our community and each has a DSL line with it's own static IP from the internet service provider. Each location has one Westell Modem/Router 2200 that has been made into a modem, setting it up as a bridge as my service provider requested. And each location has a Linsys Router with the Static IP to the ISP. Each computer has it's own AIM address.
On the Modem I changed the IP address so it wasn't the same as the Linksys Router.
I want to say, I think like you that it's the modem. I got that feeling from your last post.
I have checked out my G5 and I can Video Chat to a lot of people (settings below). I restored it back to the way it was originally set up when I could video chat with the Day Care Center Office (DCCO). I can chat with my son (he has similar Linksys WRT54G Router, the version I still don't have, and an iSight camera), my parents (they have a cable modem, and an old Linksys A&G Router, iSight), my neighbor (I lent him one of my iSights, he has Verizon Fiber Optic and a Apple Extreme Base Station). All video chatted fine.
My Linksys is now set to defaults. I restored everything back. This is how it was prior to all the testing (port forwarding, etc.)
Security: Firewall protection is enabled. Block Anonymous Internet Requests, Filter Multicast, Filter IDENT (Port 113) are all checked and on. Filter Internet NAT redirection is not checked.
    Administration: UPnP is Enabled.
Applications & Gaming: No Port Forwarding, No Port Triggering, No DMZ, No QoS.
The one thing different in all this is the Modem. I am using a discontinued Westel Wirespeed model; A90-210015-04.
My son is using the same type Router (different version) but a different Westell modem (I don't know which yet) He has Version DSL. The Router is set to defaults like mine is now and we conference fine.
The DCCO who I use to video chat with but can not now, has had the Modem and the Router changed. They had an old Linksys A&G router and an old discontinued Westel Wirespeed model similar to mine (the model I don't know yet). Now they have a Linksys WRT54G ver. 2 and a Westell 2200 Modem/Router (set up as a modem only).
So I'm going to work on the Modem theory first at the DCCO. I'm going to try to put the old modem back and see if it works. I can only do this on Fridays when only one person is in the office. I can't shut them down to test this. So I'll get back to you after Friday.
Thanks again for your good and helpful suggestions.
    Jim
