Restore Image Capture?

Okay, like an idiot I went to trash something in the applications folder and I accidentally dragged the wrong item into the trash and deleted it. This was Image Capture. Is there any way I can reinstall or restore Image Capture without having to reinstall OS X?

Nevermind. I was able to reinstall it from Tiger CD using a program called Pacifist.

  • Image Capture won't launch

I went to try to turn OFF the iPhoto auto launching feature today and Image Capture will not launch.
The 184k app is right there in my Apps folder, but nothing.
Any clues other than a system restore?
I've never looked, but is there a custom incremental restore that allow me to grab just that app off the original system disks? (if needed)

Did you read this part of the article
If you’d like to reinstall applications that aren’t offered in the Custom Install screen—applications in the Utilities folder, for example—you can use Charles Srstka’s $20 Pacifist. It works this way:
Insert your Mac OS X Installer disc. Download Pacifist and launch it. In the window that appears click the Open Apple Install Discs button. A window will appear offering you the single choice to look at the OSInstall package. Click OK.
Pacifist will churn away for a bit and then you’ll see a window titled OSInstall.mpkg. In this window you can dig down through the hierarchy of folders to find what you seek or you can enter the name of what you’re after in the Find field and press Return. A drawer appears that lists the names of matching files.
To install an item click the Install button in the upper-left corner of the window. You’ll be prompted for your administrator’s password. Enter it, click OK, and the item will be installed into its proper location on your Mac’s hard drive.
There is no preference for Image Capture in iPhoto v5.
Sorry - my error - in iPhoto 5 that preference is in image capture to select image capture, iPhoto or no application - so you can't deal with that until you restore image capture

  • Restore file " Image Capture"

I lost this file in "Applications" trying to resolve a problem with Canon scanner drivers.
How can I restore/download this file? I think I need this file to load photos from my camera
to hard drive. I can't find a stand alone file that isn't bundled with other applications.
Thank you for for your consideration!
    Brian

Without IMAGE CAPTURE I don't get the question: "would you like to delete the files on your camera?"
Where do you get this question? There is an option in iPhoto to delete after import.
How do you normally import photos from camera to computer?
Next: A hot link to authorize downloading photos. Click on this and your photos are imported into the program iPhoto.
You can open iPhoto and import pix directly. And have iPhoto open when you plug in the camera.
What are your concerns about my using Pacifist?
No concerns at all. Go ahead and get *Image Capture* reinstalled but I don't believe it is required.
*Image Capture* is there if you do not have (or don't want to use) anything else.

  • After upgrading to Lion Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

After upgrading to Lion, Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Image capture deleted all my photos from iPhone without transferring them to the harddisk. So now I've lost 427 photos due to some data error it says. Please help me get my pictures back!?!

I just wanted to back up my photos since I haven't done so since October 5th. I plugged in my iPhone and let Image Capture transfer the selected photos to the designated folder. Accidently I hit 'Import All but that's not the biggest problem. Apparently I had "Delete all after transfer" on AND 427 photos apparently "failed to transfer" as it said. I didn't think it was such a big problem, but then I noticed : what the ****.The delete all option was ON and now ALL my photos are gone, from the iPhone and NOT on the computer. Except a list of some old pictures I already have three backups and from the new ones between Oct 5 and this day I have a random selection >><!!!
So please help me! How do I get my pictures back? iPhone Data recovery? Please please help. There are so many nice memories of this month and I'm so ****** that this just happened!

If you have iCloud backup turned on or if you have recently backed up via iTunes you could restore the phone from either of those sources. Camera Roll photos are included in those backups. Be aware that doing a restore will replace the contents of the phone with the contents of the backup so you would lose anything new on the phone since the last backup. • Image Capture Problems with Snow Leopard

Somewhere along the line I seem to have upgraded my version of image capture. I've recently installed snow leopard and any software updates that have followed. I tried to use image capture for the first time yesterday, and after struggling to get it to work (unsuccessfully) I decided I preferred the previous version and went ahead and restored it from my time machine drive in place of the new version.
I soon realised that this wouldn't work with the updated OS, and upon trying to restore the newer version of IC realised that I didn't have a copy of it on my time machine drive. I know this is a rookie error!
Can anyone tell me where the new version of IC has come in, and if I can download it as part of a software update etc? I've tried reinstalling parts of Snow Leopard from disc hoping it would be in there, but so far I've had no success.
    Thanks in advance.

Having the same issue since 10.6.4; none of my 3 scanners work: canon LIDE 60, Epson CX5000 or HP 4215.
The Epson gets the furthest with a partially garbled 'overview' scan which never completes... the others never even start scanning although Image Capture says it is making an overview.
I have already installed the updated Epson driver, but not the others... will go hunting, but this really *****. Need to scan and distribute 3 1-page documents and it has so far taken me 3 hours.

  • Apple's Image Capture deleted all my iPhone Videos

I found out that because I have been using Image Capture to import all my pictures and videos from my 3GS to Aperture 3, with the setting "delete after finishing import" I have actually LOST ALL THE VIDEOS I took in the last months. Including those of family I only get to see once a year.
What happens is that it does NOT import the Video to Aperture 3, yet deletes it from my iPhone.
Is there any way I can recover these lost pictures? And how can a bug this serious still be around? This is AWFUL!
I have tried this: http://tech.kateva.org/2010/03/image-capture-import-to-aperture.html (the private/tmp folder). I also thought of restoring my iPhone to the date I still had the video's in my Camera roll, but sadly I did not connect my Time Machine drive to my Mac in those days so no iPhone backups are available.
Please help if you can, it would make me so happy to find back these videos.

I don't post alot on these forums but when I went searching for a solution to this problem and found this, I felt compelled.
I, too, tried to use Image Capture to import into Aperture 3 after migrating from iPhoto. I used IC because it offers the very handing "Delete After Import" feature that Aperture does not. After my first import, and selecting that delete option, I closed Aperture without verifying the import. The second import session I did look to verify and discovered an empty project called Imported Project and Imported Project(1). I tried to search the entire Aperture Library, but all photos and videos of my child from those two import sessions are gone. Poof.
Apple products have had some bugs in the past, but this is the first that causes loss of important data.

  • Lost photos due to Image Capture Import Error

Hi.. I lost my hundreds of precious photos taken during my vacation during the import process using Image Capture.
I took hundreds of photos in my iphone 5s during my vacation. I came back and haven't started the iphone backup yet which was my first mistake.  I then used Image Capture in my MacBook Pro to transfer the photos from 5s camera roll to a folder in my macbook.  I checked the option "Delete After Import" which was my second mistake!
During the transfer, it successfully transferred some of the photos but over half of them were not.  There was errors after the import process so those error out pictures were not found neither in my Macbook nor in my iphone.
I tried different recovery tool to scan my iphone or my macbook but still no luck.  Can you one of you give me some help on this?  What else can be done to recover the lost picture.  A million million thanks to you all in advance!

Same thing happened to me. I tried using iPhoto to back up over 8,000 photos. Unfortunately, I kept getting an error at around 3,000 and had to start over several times. After restarting my macbook, I was able to get further but after around 1,000 to go, the error popped up again! Hours! So I chose Image capture to get everything. I too selected 'delete after copying' to avoid having to delete 8k pics manually. After it was done, I was alerted that some photos could not be copied. When I checked the folder, only 4k pics were there! Where's the other 4k? On top of that, my phone which is over capacity still shows over capacity and has about 600 files with missing icons on them. Not sure what to do. Curious if a restoration of the phone will bring it all back.

  • Image Capture, Dropbox, and iPhoto are not displaying any of the photos I've taken on my iPod Touch.

I'm using the most recent iPod Touch with iOS6.  I've been able to share photos and videos via email without any problem, but I'd rather find a more efficient way of doing it.  Everything I've read online has instructed me to use Image Capture or iPhoto.  However, when I open either of these applications, they are able to recognize my iPod, but behave as though there are no photos or videos on the device when there are, in fact, 20 photos/videos in the Camera Roll.  I turned off Photo Stream, since I'm not running Lion on my computer (it's incompatible with my version of ProTools).
    Help!

If you backed up the iPod before restoring it then restore from that backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
Also, if yoo have that backup you can extract the photos by:

If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • Small problems with Image Capture

    Hi,
When I upload images from my camera, I have a few problems.
When Image Capture automatically opens, there are two different windows, and I never know which one will open. One has choices like Delete and Eject camera. The other window only has choices like Rotate Right and Rotate Left. Is there a way to get the one with more choices to open every time?
When I eject the camera (either by using the choice from the one window) or by quitting Image Capture and dragging the camera icon in the Trash, I seem to always get a Device Removal warning when I shut off the camera.
    Thanks,
    Allan

The second problem may be cured by using 'reformat' of the memory card, in the camera.
There may be some corruption in the flash memory; or it may be failing.
The first issue, may be relieved if you can find the correct file plists for Image Capture; and
trash those preferences. If the actual application is somehow damaged, it may be possible
to re-install just that application through use of Pacifist (charlessoft, download) to extract
just that item, from the computer's OS X install/restore disc. Without an 'archive & install.'
Hopefully someone will have exact details from experience; since I've not had similar issues.
Usually, I'd use a free image editor such as ToyViewer for Mac; and also Preview, to edit.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Image Capture + Rotate per EXIF + iPhoto = Bad

My image intake workflow starts by importing with Graphic Converter, then renaming withi 'A Better Finder Rename' (rename images to a "datedescriptionimage#"), then review and major edits in GC then import into iPhoto.
A recent release bug in GC, however, forced me to use OS X Image Capture. That's bad news with EXIF auto-rotate and iPhoto.
Image Capture has had a bug for several years -- with my Canon camera it duplicates the EXIF orientation tag when it auto-rotates on import. This confuses iPhoto 5.04 -- iPhoto re-rotates portrait images a second time (interestingly the thumb nail is upright) and so the image ends up rotated 180 degrees. I was sure this bug must have been fixed in Tiger. Wrong.
The malrotation is bad enough, but if one includes these double-tagged images in a batch that's mailed, Mail.App hangs until it finally times out with an AppleEvent error. It takes about 15 minutes to time out, during which time one watches the spinning pizza of death.
I fixed my Image Capture mangled images using a Graphic Converter feature that was added a while back on my request. This feature fixes corrupt orientating tags and resets them to the current orientation (so first get the image oriented correctly, then run this).
First I told iPhoto to restore all image to original. Then I did something quite risky (I have backups), I quite iPhoto, deleted the Library root .jpg cache files, then used GC to navigate the images I'd imported in their iPhoto directories. I located all the mangled images, reoriented them, and ran the EXIF repair utility. I then fired up iPhoto. (I tried removing the thumbnails, but iPhoto doesn't regenerate these as one would expect, instead it hangs and eventually shows blank images -- I think this is a cause of the broken thumbnails bug -- iPhoto should just regenerate them.) In cases where the thumbnails were mal-oriented I forced a thumbnail rebuild by editing the image then restoring to Original.
After this fix I was able to mail the images without any trouble.
iPhoto is in such bad shape I wonder if Apple shouldn't do rewrite from the ground up -- maybe an app that would only run in Tiger.

Yes, I understand that (technical) distinction, but Image Capture has worked fine for me with earlier Canon cameras. If this was just support for iPhoto and Aperture it should be labeled as such, but the actual documentation for the 10.5.4 updates says "Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras" and the document describing Raw support says "Mac OS X Leopard provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras.
    Products Affected
    Mac OS X 10.5
Supported by Mac OS X 10.5.4 or later
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi / Kiss Digital x2 / EOS 450D"
The key language here is "system level support" - which I had assumed included importing the raw images. Image capture recognizes the XSi and moves the jpegs just fine - it's not clear to me why raw files would be any different.
Anyway, as others in this thread have mentioned, just using a SDHC card reader works fine - and is faster. You just have to remove the card for the transfer.

  • Yosemite 10.10.3 Bug in Image Capture - no automatic delete

After updating Yosemite to 10.10.3, the "Delete After Import" feature in Image Capture no longer works.  The images import properly, but they do not automatically delete (even though the box is checked).  You are then able to manually delete the images, but one image is always permanently un-deletable (I was able to replicate this bug by importing images from my iPhone, iPad and Canon Digital Camera).

Don't think it's a bug, just tried with my iPhone 4s and image capture imported pictures followed by deleting same from phone - same with manual delete, all removed if all selected. Think the clue to your issue might be the fact you can not manually delete a particular picture, is it protected or could it be corrupt?
Try deleting the troublesome picture via the iDevice and then see what happens when you attempt importing others, if you have the same issue but on another picture you might try restoring the iDevice (but that will not resolve the problem if it also happens with the camera!).
I might just be lucky, wait and see if others report similar problem after 10.10.3 upgrade.

    Thanks.

I am having the identical error. I have an iPhone 4 and 2 macs, the phone is managed from an old G5 PowerMac and images are saved from it to Aperture for photos and videos go to iPhoto 11. The Mac is running 10.5.8. I last appear to have downloaded movies from iPhone4 to mac in December , the oldest video being 10 Dec 2010.
This week I was going to back up a handful of images on the phone but after connecting it to the mac, something that happens several times a week to sync to itunes for app updates etc I found it did not list for import options in iPhoto nor in Aperture. I looked at Image Capture and that tells me no device is connected.
I have no problems taking images off the phone using a MBP which has 10.6 and Image Capture recognises the phone.
I have tried the following after reading through all the discussions on the topic of which there appear to be many with this problem.
Restore the iphone then update settings from archive. - did nothing
Closed apps reconnected iPhone started apps...  - did nothing
Switched phone off then on then connected to mac then opened apps - nothing
This Mac seems happy to communicate t othe phone though iTunes but appears to have lost the way when it comes to getting images off the iPhone. Any help keenly appreciated.

  • Deleted duplicates from Image Capture import list, now the remaining singlets won't import

Hi I was importing my photos from my iPhone as per usual using Image Capture.  I saw there were duplicates in the window and deleted them 'permanently'.  I later tried to import the remaining singlets and they didn't exist! Now my iPhone only shows photos up until 2 weeks ago, and there's nothing in my trash folder, recently deleted folder on my iPhone, and nothing in my private/tmp folder from today.  Any help would be appreciated.  I can still see the images (name and details) I want to import that produce an import error in the Image Capture window and am afraid of unplugging my iPhone...

• Hot to perminantly disable image capture?

    Hey all,
I am using a bretford cart to manage 30 iPad's at once. We are having a problem with image capture poping up every time we plug in an iPad. I know people are going to be quick to point out that you can set image capture to do nothing with that device. But the problem is that every time we plug in an iPad it thinks it is the first time it's ever been connected. So no there is way to predifine a selected behavior pattern for it ahead of time.  Is there a way to simply disable image capture that has been built in to the O.S. ? We will never need to export photos from a device on this machine so the image capture feature simply isn't needed.

Delete it from that machine. That's the only way I know. When you want to restore it, copy it from another machine running the same OS version.
