  • Unable to Restore iPad Air With iPad 2 Backup

    Hello All,
I just purchased an iPad Air 128Gb Wi-Fi version to replace my iPad 2 64 Gb Wi-Fi version. I tried to restore the iPad Air with the iPad 2 backup through iTunes, but each time it aborts with a message to effect that the iPad 2 backup is either corrupted or not compatible. I tried backing up the iPad 2 again and then restoring iPad Air with the newer backup - but get the same message.
The result of this is that it is trying to sync all my old Apps but without their data - i.e. no previous game saves and the like. It also is not maintaining the folder structure that I previously had on my iPad 2.
Is there some kind of compatibility problem with restoring from an iPad 2 backup? This seems strange since my iPad 2 is only 2 years old. I've seen that other people had similar problems but with different devices. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem trying to restore to an iPad Air from an older iPad backup, and how do you get around this problem?
Any help would be tremendously appreciated. I really need to get my old App data and App folder structure from the old iPad backup.
FYI, I made sure that both the iPad 2 and the iPad air are both using iOS 7.0.3 in case that matters.

New problem following up on the previous.
My iPad Air restoration from iPad 2 backup is not proceeding smoothly. Specifically, the Apps are taking forever to download - it's been 48 hours and I have yet to complete the download process. Granted, I had a 64gb ipad 2 but I'm using a cable internet connnection. Also, some of the Apps are being copied without preserving the folder structure from my iPad 2. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why this is happening.
I tried plugging my iPad Air into iTunes thinking it would reload the Apps faster, but this only results in one of the following situations each time I sync:
    1) The iPad spends a long time syncing, specifically, it hangs on Step 6 without end. If allowed to go overnight, I will discover it the next morning still on step 6.
    2) The iPad finishes syncing (per iTunes), but when I check the iPad, there are still Apps waiting to download.
    3) The iPad syncs, but then it says that 20+ apps could not be copied because of insufficient free space. A look at the status bar shows that there is at least 14-20 Gb free on the iPad Air. (***?)
    4) The iPad syncs, but the few Apps that do copy show up without the folder structure preserved from my iPad 2.
Now, the reason I didn't want to restore from an iCloud backup is to avoid the eternal restore process. I can't figure out why it's taking so long. I kept my iPad next to my wireless router, so I know it's not a router problem. My internet was working so that's not the problem. Now.... I would be happy to restore from an iTunes backup, but I was unable to do so in the first place - kept getting "file corrupted or incompatible" message, which is what prompted me to post in the first place.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Used space after restoring iPad air

Hey guys i have an iPad air and restored it last night to iOS 7 the used space was 800 mb and then restored it again to iOS 8 the used space was 738 mb I did a reset it becomes 532and I open wifi the used space increases without downloading anything I don't know what i can do please help

Adjust the brightness down, don't use your iPad in a dark room. Take breaks from your game every so often. Even every few minutes or between each round close your eyes for a little bit, or/and shift your focus across the room. Your focus is controlled by tiny muscles. Imagine with the rest of your body, holding one body part in position for a long period of time strains the muscle, well shifting the focus of your eyes helps with that.
There are plenty of  simple artifiial tears. I'm not sure if I'd recommend blink simply because last time I looked at a bottle it was made in china and I have an intrinsic dislike of things made in China, but that may have changed. Regardless, artificial tears can help, resting your eyes, taking breaks, holding the iPad at different distanes from your face, they can all help.

  • Cant restore Ipad Air

My pc crashed while syncronizing the new softwareupdate to Ipad Air. When I connect the iPad to Itunes again I only get the option to restore. Itunes opens the software package and then waits for the Ipad. It seems that the iPad dont answer or Itunes cant recongnize the IPad. After some time I get error 4005.
I have the latest version of Itunes, have tried to disable the firewall and reinstall Apple Mobile Device Support. Help anyone?

If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Remove cards before restoring iPad Air 2

Do I need to manually remove all cards from Apple Pay before doing a factory restore of the iPad Air 2 due to the glitch reported on the iPhone 6 causing the card not to be able to be added after restore due to traces left on the secure enclave requiring replacement of the device?

Yes... and not: Technology is always moving forward, of course. But is rare that new and more performant products are cheaper than previous ones. When that happens, some companies decide to give updates (with softwares) or some gifts to the last buyers of the previous version (I remember that happened once with the iphone, when Apple decided to give some money back to people that bought the previeus version in the previous 2 months). In my case it came out 3 weeks after I bought it, then no possible return for me. However thanks for the answer! of course is not a big deal...

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • Ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade the the iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great.

ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great. i mean its like my iphone 4 with iOS 7 in its best days. i hope no to get stuck again, i mean please let me go to the iOS 7)).

Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.

  • HT1222 error 14 restore ipad 2 GSM iOS 5.1.1

error 14 restore ipad 2 GSM iOS 5.1.1

I spoke to Apple Tech Support. They were very helpfull and resolved the problem. First I was told to put into airplane mode for 15 seconds then go back to problem. That didnt help but apparently this solves lots of network type faults. Next I was told to reset the network that also didn't work. Finally then i was told to Hold both buttons until the screen goes black, when the Apple symbol returns release buttons. When the pad rebooted this cured the problem and i was able to tether again.
It seems you try this first on any faults it will often resolve problems. I've added this in hope that it will help others with any type of fault.
Can I thank you for all your help. Kind Regards Keith

  • Can I do a restore from my mini to an iPad air. Tried to do it with the iPad 2 and it said the back up was corrupt or the iPad was not compatible

I got an iPad 2 and tried to back it up from my iPad mini last back up and it says the backup was either corrupt or not compatible for the ipad2. Will I be able to restore from back up (of the mini) to the iPad air?

That depends on the iOS Versions on the iPads.   Backups must be of the same or lower iOS version as the one installed on the device to work.
What iOS version is on the iPad 2 and the mini.  If the Mini had a newer version than the 2 then that's why it did not work.
Since the Air will have the newest available, it should work just fine.

  • Restore iPad never backed up

    Hi,
A friend of mine has an iPad and she told me that during the iOS 8 update there was a problem so she reset the device to factory settings.
She never backed up the device with iTunes or iCloud so I think she had lost all notes, pictures, contacts and so on.
I've seeen there are a lots of programs that restore deleted files and so on but I've tried it and no one is able to restore the previous files before the device was restored.
I don't think there's a program that can do this but does anyone knows is there's something similar? a program that find the deleted files before the devide was restored to the factory settings?
And...how the restore of an iOS works? Does it move the index or it do an hard reset?
Thanks in advance for your help

The data is gone. Nothing can get it back at this point. Unlike computers with physical hard drives, the iPad uses flash memory.
You might want to tell you friend that it would be a good idea to turn on iCloud backups going forward. iCloud backup will do its thing automagically every day when the device is plugged into power and connected to WiFi. There is no excuse at all for not having a backup any more when Apple's made it so brain dead simple.

  • I recently upgrade to an iPAD Air. I gave my old iPAD (1st gen) to my wife.  I restored it to original factory conditions.  Now we cannot install iBook on it since it requires iOS 7.  What can we do with older iPADS that are still 100% functional.

Look at this similar problem in getting Netflix on an iPad 1. Same technique should work for you.

Are you using a valid Apple charger that came with the iPad?
Attempting to use a computer USB port, an incompatible charger, or attempting to charge via a wall socket that only receives power from a wall switch — can all lead to a low, or depleted battery condition. Has this iPad been wet, or dropped?
Verify all of the above, and correct. If the iPad still cannot hold a charge, consider taking to an Apple Store, or authorized service provider to evaluate it.

    Hi Arianelleangel,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If you are having issues trying to update your Aunt's iPad, the troubleshooting steps below may help:
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update - Apple Support
    Update does not complete
If you're installing the update and the progress bar appears to move slowly, be patient. The time an update takes depends on the size of the update and the number of files on the device.
When you're updating over the air, keep your device connected to a power source so that it doesn't run out of power. If your device does run out of power, connect it to a power source and turn on the device to let the update or restore complete.
If the update never completes and the progress bar hasn't moved for an extended time, try restarting your device. If you still see the issue after you restart, see what to do if your device appears frozen or won't start.
I hope this information helps ....
