RESTORE iPAD FROM SPECIFIC BACKUP

Hi guys,
I am currently running 4.2.1. WIth the hype of the new 4.2.1, I synched my iPad quite a few times. As a result, many backups were created. The problem is, I deleted a VERY important Note just after my first backup. I tried to restore the iPad form the backup, but iTunes only gives me the five or so most recent backups as options. I already Googled around and found the directory for the backups (User/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup), but there are many weird named folder and I cannot which one is from which time. Also, if I were to find the correct backup, how do I restore from that one?
Summary:
1) Please explain to me how to recognize the date (more precisely, hour) each backup was made
2) Please explain to me how to restore form that specific backup.
Thanks!
iPad1,1 64GB WiFi-Only, 4.2.1 iOS

Are you sure you actually have the backup files on your computer? They are located at:
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
As part of your computer's regular backup routine (assuming you have one) you should include this folder to ensure that you can always restore iPad from backup file (i.e. a backup to the backup).

  • Restore iPad from iPhone backup

    Hi
I'm a long time iPhone user. Just got an iPad. I have backed up my iPhone to my PC and then restored the iPad from the backup.
The restore from backup definitely isn't working.
I'm following all the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
but it's not transfering messages, email accounts, wifi passwords, map bookmarks or anything that is listed in the list of backup-ed items here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    Super frustrating!
    PLEASE HELP.

It's simply, you have to connect iPad with iTunes and right click it on the sources in the left sidebar of it. Then you have to choose from the menu "Back up" when it's done disconnect iPad and connect iPhone do the same thing but from the menu you have to choose "Restore from Backup" and then choose the iPad backup you did before.

  • Restore iPad from older backup

I had my iPad wiped while on vacation because the wrong access code was entered too many times. (lesson #1: unpair bluetooth keyboard from iPad before throwing them in a bag). So my only option was to wipe everything and restore as new. Now being back home, I wanted to restore from the backup I had made on iTunes just before I left. Unfortunately, I did not check the "Prevent iPods etc from syncing automatically" in iTunes prior to plugging my iPad (lesson #2), so iTunes did a backup before I could realize what was happening. So now, I have only one backup available: the one just made, which is useless.
I do regular backups of my mac with Time Machine, so I'm hoping there's a way to get the older backup by accessing the files on TM. Only I have no clue where to look or what to look for. Help please?
    Thanks!

If you find the backup, you should be able to restore it To the iPad.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

  • How to restore Ipad from previous backup that is not the restore list?

I did a firmware update for Ipad from 5.1.1 to 6.1
I backup my Ipad before I did it at 4.46am
Then I restore my Ipad so it will install IOS 6.1
However I accidentally set it up as new device with a differrent name (default suggested by itune which is "AL's Ipad")
Then I try to select my previous backup called "Ipad 3"
But I cant see "Ipad 3" from my restore list.
So can I restore my "Ipad 3" backup?

If you went through the process of restoring your iCloud backup, then tapped Show Older Backups when asked which backup to restore to and the backup you're looking for isn't listed, there's no way to recover it.  You could check to see if you have an older backup on your computer that would have the data you're looking for by opening iTunes and going to Setting>Devices and checking the Backups list.

  • Restoring iPad from iPhone backup to get rid of 'Other'

I have a 32GB iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. In Itunes the iPad shows 5.99GB of 'Other' which I have been unable to ascertain exactly what this comprises of although a search of these forums indicates it may be corrupted material.
In the hope of regaining the 5.99Gb (or at least some of it) I am thinking of restoring the iPad from my iPhone 4 backup which has 2.35GB of 'Other'. This will at least release 3.6GB of space (if it works).
Any comments or suggestions about the feasibility doing of this? There seems to be conflicting views on the Internet so some comments would be appreciated.

  • Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

Unless you'd signed up to iTunes Match then they won't be in the Cloud, only music purchased from iTunes (if you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded) will be there. Have you not still got it on your computer and/or on a backup which you can use to sync it back to the iPad ?
