This is a Hardware error. Make an appointment at the Genuis Bar to resolve the problem. You can also try restoring without any sim card inside your phone. If it still gives this error, go ahead to the Genuis Bar.

  • HT1222 restoring iphone 3GS - error message 'unknown error -1' occurred.

when restoring my iphone 3gs itunes attempts to restore then come back with error message 'unknown error -1' occurred. what to do now?

    Hey Lawrence,
A big THANK YOU!! to you! Your suggestions worked!
Before I changed USB ports (more on that in a sec...), I employed one of your suggestions that you gave to someone else with the same problem...and that was to clean the connector on the bottom of the phone with a soft dry tooth brush. I couldn't believe the amount of lint that came out! Especially what was found in either end...had to do some very careful picking. (Almost enough lint to knit a small sweater!!)
Changing the USB port was the second and final step required for a successful backup. My computer is a laptop, and I did have a USB Bluetooth adapter (for another device) installed. I removed  the adapter, plugged the iPhone into that USB port, crossed my fingers...and it worked!!!
Now if I can figure out the rest of this darn program, I might upgrade to a new iPhone!
Again, thank you very much Lawrence!

I had the same problem.  To fix it, I first tried a different computer and different USB cable.  When the error still appeared on the different computer and different USB cable, I unplugged the USB cable from the iPhone, opened up the iPhone and disconnect the battery from the iPhone main logic board (three screws).  I left it unplugged for a few hours.  Plugged back in the battery connector and then restored in iTunes.  Hope this works for you.
Um, no.  Opening up the iPhone voids all support from Apple.  Do not make recommendations on this forum that will violate Apple's policies or procedures.

  • Tried to restore iPhone 3G - error 1015

I bought a second hand iPhone 3G. It worked fine but had all kind of personal info on it. Wanted to restore to original settings via iTunes, but now I keep getting an error message: 1015 and the phone is not functional any more. It merely shows the charger cable and indicates that I need to reconnect with iTunes. I tried several times, alway get the message: an unnknown error ocurred: 1015

Check this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694, however the 1015 error generally relates to jailbroken phones or ones where someone is trying to downgrade or install software that is not the latest version.

  • Can't Restore Iphone 5 (Error 2005)

I tried to restore my iphone back to factory settings so i could give it to my mom. But midway through the process, it gave me an error 2005 (saying something is wrong with the USB, which is perfectly fine). Now it's stuck in recovery mode. I've tried it from recovery and dfu mode. I've been through a bunch of pages that are supposed to help, but nothing has helped. Are there any apps besides iTunes that I could use to manually install ios 6.1.4? Thank you

  • Can't restore iPhone 4 (Error 4014)

    Hello,
My iPhone 4 don't turn on and is only recognize by iTunes as begin in recovery mode.
When trying to restore with iTunes, i always have an "Error 4014"...
I have not found any informations about this error, i tried the "POWER + HOME" combinaison but nothing...
Hopefuly anybody here can help. You are my last hope regarding this issue, although I´m not a complete newby to iPhone problems.
    Thanks and kind regards

    No, it's error 4014.
I'm surprised that there is nothing about this on Google. I've only found one reference of "error 4014" in other thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5123621?start=0&tstart=0) but no solutions...

  • Firmware upgrade 2.2.1 failed - can't restore iPhone 3G - Error 13 or 1016

I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3G 16GB to Firmware 2.2.1
As a result I cannot access my iPhone again, "restore" via iTunes aborts with Error code 13, sometimes with 1016.
Ok, my XP laptop has only USB 1.1, therefore I installed and activated iTunes 8 on another laptop having WinXP and USB2.0 interfaces. Same result, resore function results in Error code 13 and sometimes in error code 1016.
any help would be highly appreciated!
    BTW:
    - I tried the deactivation/activation of the computer -> doesn't help
    - Reset of the iPhone with wake/sleep button + home button -> doesn't help

    Hello Condor2000x,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
If you've tried the steps in TS1275, including a different computer, you may need to have the iPhone serviced.
You can find the service options for your region here:
    http://www.apple.com/de/support/serviceassistant/overview.html
    Hope that helps,

  • Restoring iPhone with Error: 16

My iPhone 4, randomly shown me a message last night to restore my iPhone via iTunes as it cannot receive calls or messages. So i backed it up etc, and tried to restore the phone. Unfortunately, i then came across a problem (Error:16) and it is now in recovery mode and will not restore.
It connects fine to my iTunes but on the last moment of the restore the error message shows up, I am using a Mac and my software is all up to date (as i made sure i checked before even starting the restore) and I have followed all different ways, i'm still sat with the iPhone 4 in recovery mode.
Has anyone come across this problem and can you help me?

    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
