Restore iPhone without iTunes

Hi,
We have a iPhone 4, running IOS 7.0.2
Have an issue that when it was set up a general iCloud was added to the phone, Different from our user of the phone. We now are unable to add another iCloud account (So that we can delete the old one), nor can we add any account under Settings,Mail,Contacts,Calendars... when we go there everything is whited out (greyed out) with no options available to change it.  We are also presented with a "Restricted Code Prompt", which we do not know, (undocumented by our predecessors).
I thought the best solution may be to use iTunes to restore the phone to factory, but when launched I get the prompt to disable "Find my iPhone" in iCloud, which I can not access on the phone. See above.
So it seems I am stuck in a catch 22. Cannot restore the phone to factory as first I need to deactivate "Find my iPhone" on the Phone, cannot disable that as I cannot get access to any iCloud settings on the phone as it is whited-out (as are all the accounts).
I could send the Erase Command from the iCloud account on the web, but wonder by doing so with the new IOS is it going to technically "Brick it"?
Anyone have a another way to factory reset a commercially owned iPhone?
Thanks

Forgotten Passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
This is right out of the Apple support article:
If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
"iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
"You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

Phone is seriously frozen, Can You Reset or Restore iPhone without iTunes?

I recently had a similar problem, turn the phone off, once off, hold down the home button, until you see a icon of a white usb wire with the words, connect to iTunes.
connect the phone to a usb port on your computer, iTunes will boot up, and the restore process will begin, make certain you are connected to the internet, since, once the process is completed, the phone will require activation, as well as need to download the restore software....

  • How do I back up my restored iPhone to iTunes, without it reloading old content?

How do I back up my restored iPhone to iTunes, while setting it up as new, without having it reload all my old apps? I tried once, setting it up as a new iphone, and it reloaded all my old apps anyway. I then restored the phone AGAIN, and haven't plugged it into my computer for fear of it doing it again. I want to start over new and back up the "new" phone with my new apps, and sync my old photos, but I do not want to sync old apps.

I jailbreaked my iPhone 5 and now i don't want the jailbreak any more so i restored the iphone without iTunes and then it turned it self off and now its stuck on the black screen with the loading sign. So please how can i turn my iPhone on again?

I figured it out by pressing the home button and the off button but when i turn my phone on again it's not restored. And when i try to restore it with iTunes it has to update but i can't update my phone because it's jailbreaked but if i can't update it, it won't restore the phone.

  • Restoring an Iphone without Itunes

Can you restore an Iphone without Itunes? Or is there another way to restore it without wiping out another IPod's music library on Itunes?

You can erase all content and settings on an iPhone without iTunes, but you can't restore an iPhone without iTunes.
Regardless what you do with an iPhone, no iTunes content in your iTunes library is ever erased.

  • After restoring iPhone 4, iTunes is telling me that my SIM card is not supported. It is the same SIM I have always used with this phone.

After restoring iPhone 4, iTunes is telling me that my SIM card is not supported. It is the same SIM I have always used with this phone. What action can I take to convince phone that the SIM card is OK?

    Hello again, update time.
Finally got to speak to a senior technical advisor at Apple today who was most confused until he back-tracked and double checked all the basics. He then realised that the actual serial number of my original phone (from the proof of purchase I sent him) was different to the one that they had recorded when they made the swap. I think he said it was out by one character and was actually showing as a mobile connected to AT&T (from the States). He said that the replacement phone was then set-up as per the serial number they had typoed into their system as locked to AT&T. The genius who did the swap at Apple Doncaster must have placed an unlock on it at the time in order for my 3 SIM to work at all. Therefore when I restored it, it returned to the settings of the incorrect original phone serial number!
So... Apple tech advisor said he can rectify the records and re-set the factory setting to an Australian iPhone on the 3 network within 12-24 hours. Fingers crossed all is good by tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks for your suggestions though, I had been trying everything to get it to work as I'm sure you know how hard they are to live without once you've got used to living with one!
    Cheers, Tom.

  • HT4113 how do i reset my iPhone without iTunes?

i would like to know how can i enable my iphone without itunes.

A reset has nothing to do with iTunes.
What is meant by "enable" the iPhone?
If it is locked with a passcode and the passcode is unknown or forgotten, the only way to get the device functional is a restore via iTunes on a computer.

    Thanks Eric,
After inserting the original DVD I installed OSX and after reboot I had a working computer.
There was no opportunity to restore the TM backup. however when I rebooted from the
DVD again I saw that possibility from a menu of the install utility.
I ran through the restore over night (8 hours) and when I woke up, I had my computer back!
    Thanks for helping me out.

QUESTIONS: I have an iphone 3gs.just updating to ios5. am at the stage where I chose to restore iphone via itunes. sync seems stuck at step 7 of 7: syncing artwork. Is this necessary and if not how do I get around it?

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Moving to a new iPhone without iTunes

My friend just bought a new iPhone. He had been syncing it for awhile to his old PC, which is now just dead in the water. He got a new iPhone and wants to move his data (contacts etc) to the new iPhone, without iTunes.
He doesn't have an iCloud account yet, so I *think* he can just make an iCloud account on his old iPhone, turn on syncing, then go to the new iPhone and do the same.
If not, then I have a Mac with iTunes. I can make a new user account for him, and then plug in the iPhone and I *think* backup the iPhone to iTunes.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • Get photos on iPhone without iTunes optimizing them?

Is there any way to put photos on the iPhone without iTunes optimizing them and shrinking them down?

I would like to see this feature implemented as well. It seems well with in the capabilities of the hardware, just a matter of updating iTunes with better syncing options for photo galleries, possible the iPhone OS as well, but i don't see why as the photo App does have the capacity to browse larger resolution images that have been downloaded of the net.
Please submit an official feedback form and let's see this featured rolled out sooner than later:

  • Is it possible to have an iPhone without iTunes

I understand that itunes is necessary for activation of an iphone. However, is it possible to, after activation, uninstall itunes perminently and still have the iphone work? Under no circumstances can itunes be on the computer more than once. I am fine with no music on the device. Also, would the iphone be able to be updated without itunes. Also, is a 3rd party software like "media monkey" avaliable for the iphone. I will check back on the forum every 2 hours or so. Thanks for any help in advance.
    - Jason

If you plan on using the iphone to it's full potential, itunes is necessary because it is the interface between your iphone and the computer.
Also, if the iphone starts giving trouble you need itunes to back your data up and to restore the operating system on the iphone. Then if you want to put any of the latest updates from apple on the iphone, you need itunes.
But to answer your question, itunes is not needed after the activation if all your going to do is use the iphone as just a phone or wifi device.
here is a link to the user manual online that might help out.

  • TS1702 Restore iPhone without losing apps

Is there not a way to restore iPhone OS6 without having to start over installing apps??

Maybe, but you'd have to try it.
Connect your iPhone to your computer running iTunes via USB cable.  On the info page, you'll see the "Update" and the "Restore" button.  Don't use Restore; that will refresh everything and force you to reinstall apps.  Instead, hold down the Option button and hit "Update."  That should pop-up a box that allows you to choose the version you want to update to.  Select the iOS 6 installation package and go.  It may work.  I've used that technique when Update wasn't recognizing a newer version that was available and it worked fine, but I don't know if it will work when the two versions are the same.  Good luck!
