Restore Ipod data to I tunes

Recent hard drive crash and I lost all Data. My Ipod has data. Can I restore the ipod data to Itunes?

Hello Just Don,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are numerous 3rd party applications/software that can help you accomplish this task. See this older comprehensive post from another forum member Zevoneer for different available options.

There is also a manual method available you can use to copy the music and contents of your iPod back to iTunes. See this article for more information.

  • Restoring my Data from I-Tunes

I have managed to get out of the Recovery Loop, by installing IOS 3.1.3 again, but now I want to set it up to retreive my data from the I-Tunes backup. Can anyone outline the method? I think first I must upgrade back to IOS 4.1 (not 4.2.1 as thats where I run into serious errors).Any useful advice would be appreciated.

After downgrading to 3.1.3 and then unlocking, I now tried to restore it to IOS 4.1, which worked well for me till 27th november. Itunes restored my phone to Firmware IOS 4.1, and then I could also recover my backed up data, contacts and all that.So I am staying away from IOS 4.2.1 now, had 5 days of a nightmare, but now happy as I got my stuff back to where it was before IOS 4.2.1 came into play.

  • Ipod freezes at Restoring Ipod software during ios5 update

I have a 4g ipod touch and I tried to update it and everything went fine so i left it alone. When i came back, the bar on the ipod touch screen was full but the bar in itunes was really close to being done and it said Restoring Ipod Data, after a while i forced quit itunes and the ipod shows the connect to itunes sign. Every time i plug it back in it does the same thing and is stuck. Will this most probably be fixed after apple fixes the bugs?

    Hi,
Still no luck with this. The latest software does not fix the problem. Can anyone help?!

  • ITunes.  After installing new software, what does "restore iPod" mean?  Does it mean to restore all games and data to the new software or does it mean to "undo" the software update?

iTunes.  After backing iPod to computer and installing new software, what does "restore iPod" mean?  Does it mean to restore all games and data to the new software or does it mean to "undo" the software update?

You can restore your iPod to "New" which will erase every thing and install fresh iOS software or you can restore to a particular backup that you have previously created. In this case, your iPod Apps & data will appear as per the backup. Note that some content is not in a backup and will need to be synced back to the iPad from the iTunes music library or from, for example, the iPhoto photo library.

  • Restore new ipod with old ipod data

I think my ipod is probably toast (unless some genius responds to my last post and solves my problem). If I have to get a new ipod, does anyone know if I can restore the data from my dead one to the new one?

Yes, when you set up a new Touch you'll be given the opportunity to either set it up as a new iPod, or use the last backup from your current Touch.

  • Help on restoring calendars data in iPod touch

I got frustrated with the iffy quality of mobile me sync and calendars. I turned it off for a while. Now I just downloaded BusyCal and was hoping to get it working again. However, it erased my mobil data with the wrong info from my computer.
I have tried using Time Machine to restore my iPod data. The iPod was connected to iTunes. Then I went into Time Machine and got an older backup and replaced it. But then "restore from backup" won't show once I do that.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello, Audg!
I'm actually kinda confused, I know that on for example, the iPhone 3GS, it should ask for you to download an older version. As seen in the following screenshot:
Did you see this at all? This should of happened in the proccess in the install. Try to install it again, see what happens.

  • My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. What do you do when you buy a new computer or have a new hard drive?  Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

See this article for details: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Make sure your Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your MacBook.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • HT1339 after restoring ipod nano how do I get tunes back if they are in my music library

after restoring ipod nano how do I get tunes back if they are in my music librbary- thanks

Configure the music to sync back over to your device from under its Music configuration tab.  If your library is smaller than the capacity available on your Nano, you can set it to sync your entire music library by enabling the Sync Entire Library option from under this tab. Otherwies, you'll have to select only certain artists, albums, playlists, and genres.

  • HT1766 How can restore the datas of Ipod touch without backup?

Please help me the way to restore the datas of Ipod touch without backup, such as: images, documents, music, application... Thanks so much!!

You can try to use the data recovery softwares.

  • Will all data be lost if i restore ipod on itunes

will all data be lost if i restore ipod 5G on itunes

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Updated Ipod 4th Gen to IOS 6 but now Itunes tells me to restore Ipod and that data could be lost should i restore, it will not let me do anything until i restore

I have an Ipod 4th Generation just now updated to IOS 6 thru Itunes, says update complete but now it tells me to restore the Ipod and data would be lost. I can not do anything till I restore Ipod and I am worried about losing games, music and other apps. Do I restore Ipod and will I lose games and music?

Do you have a current backup of the content of your iPod? If not restoring will remove Apps and their data. The Apps can be replaced at no charge but the data will be lost.
What is the exact message that you are seeing?

If you have a backup of your computer, here's the location of the iTunes backup folder:
Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • After restoring iPod it stops syncing half way

After restoring iPod, it stops syncing while it is downloading music with an error message "Attempting to copy to the disk. iPod failed. The disc could not be read from or written to".
My music is less memory than what my iPod can hold.
    What's up with this?
    THX!

It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.
