Did a software update for my ipod touch and now my ipod is stuck on the connect to itunes screen and itunes and my computer don't recognze the device. I can get it into recovery mode and see it under devices on my computer but it won't install the drivers that are needed for the ipod. I have done every possible step in the troubleshooting guides. I keep getting the same error message saying that the device driver software was not successfully installed. itunes won't recognize the ipod, under my computer does not dispaly ipod as connected, I can view that it is in recovery mode under the devices and printers but the drivers will not install by following the steps on apple support. Any advice will be much appreciated. Please don't just give me a link to some support section on apple because I have tried them all. I am using windows 7 professional and have updated to the latest version of itunes.

Are you sure that you can transfer contacts from the iPod to Skydrive?
I would try the links that I previusly provided and try to get iTunes to see the iPOd so you can do everthing right.
If you find a computer that can see the iPOd yu can update the iPod on that computer. See:

iTunes makes to many changes to my computer that I have no control over, sorry but it's just crappy software. I had to remove it from another computer as it disabled Outlook and kept giving errors at boot up. I also don't see why it has to copy my music to another folder and have it on my HD twice. I could go on and on and don't get me started on the iCloud bugs.

Other than iCloud or synching from iTunes, the only other option is to purchase music directly from the iTunes Store.
iTunes works just fine with Outlook on my computer and the many others I support, FWIW. And you don't have to have your music on your drive twice. You can have it anywhere on your computer and just have iTunes recognize it where it is.

How can I deactivate an Ipod touch without using it? (Broken screen)

I was given the new Ipod Touch 4th gen for Christmas and my 2yr old daughter threw it in the dogs water dish. It was completely covered with water, and the screen would no longer light up but I could see it was still working.. So I left it out to dry for a few days but my husband decided he wanted to try and "fix" it by opening it up and that is when the screen cracked.. So now it lights up again but its all white with a spider web in the one corner. I can still hit the button twice and then guess where the play button would be on the screen and tap it and it will play music.. so I know it still "works" but there is no screen.. and since my husband opened it up I dont even want to try to take it in and get it fixed. The metal backing is all bent away from the glass and you can just tell that someone opened it up.. So instead, I went and bought myself a new one.
It doesnt bother me that I have two of them activated and listed on my computer. That is not why I want to deactivate it. What happened it, I tried to use the face time on my new Ipod and nothing happened. (Yes I made sure that I set it up before I tried to use it) My brother in law tried to call me (we were sitting in the same room) and it was going through on his end, waiting for me to pick up, but nothing was happening on my end. So I am thinking that because it was set up on the broken one first, its sending the call to that one instead of going to my new one.
So I am trying to figure out how I can deactivate/permanently shut off the broken Ipod without being able to go on it or use it. So is there a way to plug it in and deactivate it through Itunes on my computer? -OR- If you can explain why else my face time would not be working after setting it up on the new Ipod?

Having identical FaceTime info on the broken iPod and the new one should not effect using FT on the new iPod as long as the broken one is off. However, you can try connecting the broken one to you computer and see if you can restore it to factory defaults/new iPod vi iTunes. See:

No. You need iTunes on a computer.

Hi everyone. I would like to purchase an iPod Touch online, and send to my sister in Cebu Philippines, as a gift. But my sister does not own a computer. Can she go to a local support center (maybe a Reseller - iStore in Cebu) to download apps, games, itunes? Any idea how much it would cost? Is there a better way for my sister to start using the iPod Touch even without owning a computer?

In order to fully enjoy all the functions of the iPod, iPod needs to be synchronized with a computer. With iTunes music and movies will be synced. In order to download apps iPod would have to be connected to a wireless Wi-Fi network.
In summary, a computer is rather needed in order to fully enjoy the iPod.

I am extemely frustrated. I have an Ipod touch 3rd Generation 32gb. I was promted by Apple to update my latest IOS to 5.1.1. In doing so Apple has locked up my ipod to the point that it will not update and is stuck on the install usb screen. All these sync proceedures appear to have been a waste of time as I can not restore this device either. It is amazing as I have seen many poeple online with the same problem yet, Apple can not even give anyone a proper answer on what to do. I would just like to restore the device without connecting to my PC. I know hold down power and start till logo and then hold 10 seconds. Nothing is happening. I need to take a class on how to run an Ipod touch ?
