Restore iTunes genius data from backup

Hi, I turned off genius in iTunes, didn't really think it through and am debating turning it on again. I have mirror backups of my library and would like to know if its safe to just restore the library to its old self rather than manually turning on genius and waiting a long time for the results. I'm assuming its safe though deleting the genius data seems to take much longer than expected and I'm wondering whether there is more to it than just a simple restore.
Thanks

No.  Contact the app developer to see what the issue is.

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

  • Iphone Will restoring data from backup remove unlock?

    Hello,
As the thread title says, will restoring my iPhone data from a backup remove the unlock?
I called at&t today to have my phone unlocked.  The tech support representative told me to plug my phone in and restore it through iTunes.  It prompted me to back up my data which I had it back up my data.  Then it restored the iPhone and when it was done, I had a message that says congratulations your iPhone is now unlocked.
From there, I got a prompt in iTunes to setup my iPhone and I chose to restore the data from the backup that was created before I restored it to unlock it.
    Will this remove the unlock?
    Thanks,

I just want to post this information here to let people know in case they get any questions.
I have tested it out with restoring the phone from the iCloud and the phone remains unlocked.  This took me a lot of time and repeated restores  from the iCloud backup and the backup made in iTunes when the phone is connected.
Restoring from iCloud does in fact allow you to keep your unlock.

My iTunes asking password from backup my iPad,but i don't know passworad.

    Hi Denis_Chumichev,
If you have encrypted your iTunes backup, please keep trying to remember your password.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Warning: Make sure it's a password that you'll remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and choose set up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
    Take care,

  • Advanced Help Needed - Restoring iPhone data from Backup

Upon updating my iPhone 3G[S] from 3.1 to 3.1..2 I did a full restore, I made sure to backup the device before this. Post-update/restore I, accidentally, hit "Set up as new phone" therefore deleting my earlier backup, a backup I have been building on for over 2 years now. When realizing that iTunes had automatically deleted my backup, I quickly opened my file recovery program and got the whole backup folder restored to a separate drive. I moved the whole freshly-recovered back up folder to the correctly directory within iTunes appdata, right next to where my new/empty/useless backups where. Right clicking my device within iTunes and selecting "Restore from backup" my backup from earlier in the day was not listed. After further inspection of the backup folder that I had recovered I noticed that there was no Info.plist file. I went into the other/useless backup that iTunes had just made and brought the info.plist into my older backup folder, now in iTunes my older backup was listed, I selected it and attempted to restore to only receive an error half way through restore "(-32)" to be exact. I checked again and again with my recovery tools to see if the original info.plist file was deleted, it was not, I have no idea why it would be missing, but worse is that I have no idea how I can get iTunes to restore the backup without it, considering it doesn't even recognize it the backup as existing without it, is there way to create a custom info.plist so I could restore or force a restore outside of iTunes? Please any advice would be greatly appreciated !

    Backup c:\users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
If you copy these folders into a new computer in the same location (or the contents of a current long name folder into one of the long name folders in backup) you should be able to restore your old data.
Outside of that maybe track down the location of your outlook PST or address book database. support.microsoft.com probably has some tips.

  • How to backup and restore alien formatted data from/to a CF card - just binary data, not mountable

I'm trying to make a safety backup of data from a Compact Flash card and be able to restore this data to the CF card again in the event of disaster.
The data on the CF is in a non-standard filesystem format - I just want to make a 'bit-for-bit' copy of the data on the CF to a backup of some sort held on the Mac and be able to put it back on the CF again if need be.
I connect the CF card to the Mac using a USB type external adapter box.
I have tried using Disk Utility. I made a ".dmg" Disk Image from the CF apparently OK, but it will not restore the image back to the CF. I get message "Restore failure. Could not validate source - device not configured".  I've not managed to find any
After much fruitless digging it's in danger of turning into a second career trying to sort out how to do this - so a cry for help...

Thanks jsd2 - that did help with one part of the puzzle - how to find what the 'dev' was to use in the 'dd' command! When I listed the /dev dir I couldn't see clearly what was what, and could feel a load more googling coming on, but this tool made it clear the CF I wanted was identified as '...disk2'.
I'm trying "dd-ing" a .bin file I extracted from the .dmg backup onto the CF using the dd-GUI tool  - but it is very slow, currently indicating another 4 hours to finish the write!  I'm not sure the best way to abort.
I wonder if it could be made to go faster if I used the actual dd command from the console, with the right parameters.
Unfortunately I'm also not convinced that the ".bin" format will be any good - it was a choice between that and ".img" so I tossed a coin, for the sake of trying something.
I think it is more likely to work if I used the 'dd' command (via the tool or from the command line) in both directions, ie. to make the copy and then to copy it back - that way presumably the raw byte format should be consistently packaged in each direction at least - but if it takes >4 hours each way with this 32GB CF card then it's not bearable!

  • What happens if I restore my new iPhone from backup but keep the old phone on?

I currently have an iPhone 5 and have the 6+ on the way. I'm worried about the size of the 6+ so I'd like to test it out for the 14 day period. If I set up the 6 by restoring from iCloud backup can I still keep my 5 up and running. I wasn't planning on transferring my cell service over to the 6 yet and just running off wifi. Obviously iTunes is going to see both phones as being the same device so that would cause a problem but what if I left wifi sync and iCloud backup on the 6 off. Would this setup work? Thanks in advance.

What I mean is still track my stolen one. I don't know if this will make sense to you but I'm thinking that if I restore the back up data on this phone..on my stolen phone it will like forget the icloud account or something and think this phone is the stolen one so when I go to track the stolen one, it will show that phone as the one I have now because I restored the back up from that phone.

  • How can I simply restore lost app data from iCloud, without resetting all content. Please someone!!!

I accidentally deleted a timesheet app from my iPhone, I reinstalled the app again but the data did not come back with it. Can someone help me with details how I can restore my lost data for just that app, from iCloud. iCloud is and was set up on my phone and was updated 3 days before this happened. People have suggested I "reset all content and setting" and it will come back. The sounds of deleting all content on my phone worries me. I have no other devices to back up on, so my only back up is in "iCloud"
Is there a simple way I can download and reinstall just the data for the app from iCloud?

Delete all content and settings will wipe your phone. You cannot selectively restore in iTunes or iCloud, it is either all or none. You would have to restore to a backup before you deleted the app to be able to recover the data. However, anything that you did since that time would be lost.

  • Help, how to restore backed-up data from old 3GS to my new 3GS?

Hi I recently got a replacement phone, and when i synced it to iTunes, the prompt to restore my backed-up data came up. However when I tried to restore, it prompted me to update my new phone's software to 3.1 first.
So now, after updating my software, how do I restore the data from my old phone?
Coz the first prompt does not appear anymore.
    Would appreciate your feedback, thanks!

Upgrade to 3.1 first, do not sync or backup. After you upgrade, reconnect & select restore from previous backup & all your data will be put back on the new phone.
When you right click on your phone under devices in the right column, one of your choices will be restore from backup.

  • Stopping Genius Data from loading

I don't view Genius lists so how do I stop the data from loading?

    Good Morning Vietnam!
OK soldier, give me 20 (push-ups) & read the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12142
Do you have a problem with that?
Well, I do... it's dated Nov. 5, 2013. iTunes was updated to 11.2.2 after that date wasn't it? Like in June, 2014, correct? Fuhgeddaboutit!
So I marked it as not being helpful - whatever.
ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?   Fasten your safety harness, cause we have some real exciting, mundane stuff comin' right at cha next.
Next I need to know if you are the only user with Admin privs for the iTunes Account; iTunes can be finicky when there several users and more than one and only one has Admin privs. You can share media but if someone whose name we won't mention thinks that they can be an Admin too, you'll have to straighten that out behind closed doors.   I know, I know... this is probably is not the case. This is just boilerplate stuff we have to get out of the way... just because.
Next we have the 'safe boot' approach. That's when you shut down completely and then start the machine up while holding down the shift key until you finally get to Safe Mode (it takes longer to start up doing this because the system is clearing certain caches & making sure some other things are ok). But once you get there, it usually indicates that (in red letters) right on your sign-in screen.
So after you sign in, you simply try to open iTunes. No wait! LOL! There is no sound in Safe Mode but what we are doing by starting up iTunes - in addition to the aforementioned, is trying to rule-out any conflicts with any 3rd part software that may be interfering with iTunes. But the good news is that if iTunes starts which it probably will - albeit w/ no sound, then at least you know what the problem isn't.
FYI, that's how a differential diagnosis is done. Just ask this guy:
Go ahead say it... "Murph... cut to the chase will ya?!
To be honest, if none of this helps, you're best bet is checking out the iTunes threads... especially if Chris CA is around cause he's the top gun (for iTunes) & pose the question via a new thread like, "Why won't Genius go away?" He solves problems like this - bada bing bada boom.
Catch ya later, curly; thanks for the thank yous.
