Restore Java 6.0

Hello:
I installed java 7 some time ago to support chrome. However there are other applications that require java 6 runtime, sdk, and web  plugin support.  I followed the advice on Oracle about how uninstall the java 7 sdk. I followed the advice in the apple support forums on how to restore web plugin support.  However when I type java -version I get:
java version "1.7.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
I have already tried re-installing OS Mavericks, but that will not reset my java to java 6.
Please advise
Thanks
Matthew Harelick

I removed it and I still get
java -version
java version "1.7.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Its important to realize that the JavaVM is different than the plugin.
/usr/bin/java is a symbolic link to
/usr/bin/java -> /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current/Commands/java
and when one changes directories into that area one sees a mix of symbolic links between frameworks and binaries. I am looking for a safe way to either set Java 6 to be the one that Current looks at or safely delete Java 7.  Given the intermix of links between things, I concerned that by just changing the link from Current that I will break Java or make it worse.
When I ls in the Versions directory I get this:
1.4                    1.5                    1.6                    A                    CurrentJDK
1.4.2                    1.5.0                    1.6.0                    Current
but ls -l on this shows:
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.4 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.4.2 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.5 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.5.0 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.6 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 Apr 29 22:09 1.6.0 -> CurrentJDK
drwxr-xr-x  7 root  wheel  238 Apr 29 22:09 A
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel    1 Apr 29 22:09 Current -> A
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   59 Apr 29 22:09 CurrentJDK -> /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Content
Can I just manually relink Current to point to CurrentJDK or will I be making things worse downsream?

  • Need to restore Java stack alone on a ABAP+JAVA ECC6 server

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I have done a DB refresh on my ECC6.0 ABAP+JAVA system using the Oracle databse backup and restore method. Now the ABAP system is working fine but the JAVA is not starting. Also Iu2019m unable to  connect the  VisualAdministrator as http://<host>.ubicbs.co.in:8101/msgserver/text/logon gives an empty list.
Is there any way I can restore JAVA alone without touching the ABAP stack? Even a new installation of Java  is also okay as there are hardly any changes in the Java stack of my source system. Please advice.
    Thank you,

  • How to restore Java stack

    Hello.
How can i restore Java stack from 11 levele to level 4 ?
    regards,
    Denis

    Hi,
As for as I know, you cannot downgrade from higher SP to lower SP through any means like JSPM or SDM or any tool.
It you want to move back to SP4 ,then only solution I know is to install a new server with SP4 afresh.
    Hope that helps

  • Should I restore Java Shared Archive in 10.3.9

Does anyone know if restoring the Java Shared Archive (JSA) is still necessary on a Mac running OS X 10.3.9, QuickTime 7.1.2, and Java 1.4.2? I know that restoring the JSA was an optional step for those users whose Java implementation stopped working under the combination of OS X 10.3.9 and QuickTime 7.0.4. But, I'm wondering if it is still necessary (optional or not) now that QuickTime 7.1.x is released.
Here's why I'm asking. I recently updated my dad's iBook G4 to OS X 10.3.9 and QuickTime 7.1.2. The iBook went straight from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 to 7.1.2. I applied Security Update 2006-003 (which, apparently, automatically included the Java Update for Mac OS X 10.3.9). I performed each of these many upgrades one at a time. I repaired permissions and/or rebooted between each update and I'm pleased to say that there were NO problems with the installations and the iBook is working just great!
The only update I haven't yet done is the Java Security Update 4.0. I plan to do that in the next day or so. Anyway, when I upgraded my Power Mac G4 to OS X 10.3.9, I lived through the QuickTime 7.0.4 / broken Java nightmare! I still haven't applied the Security Update 2006-003 or the QuickTime 7.1.x updates on my Mac because I was wary of Java being broken again. But, I was willing to use my dad's iBook as a guinea pig! I hoped that going straight to QuickTime 7.1 would avoid the broken Java problem. Apparently, it (or the Java Update for 10.3.9) did avoid the problem. I'm more comfortable with the idea of updating QuickTime on my own Mac.
But, as I said, I'm wondering if I should restore the JSA on my dad's iBook.

After successfully updating my dad's iBook and not running into any problems, I decided to update my own Power Mac G4 from QuickTime 7.0.1 to 7.1.2.
Well, my Java applications are broken AGAIN! I don't get a segmentation fault error message when I type java -version in Terminal. My own amateur Java programs run. Safari doesn't crash and Java applets work properly. But, standalone Java apps crash just like they did with QuickTime 7.0.4 installed!
I was perfectly willing to stay with QuickTime 7.0.1 indefinitely but I want to buy TV shows from the iTunes Music Store and I can't do that unless I upgrade QuickTime to at least version 7.0.3 (which I believe is where the conflicts with Java began)!
Are there any other Panther users who have found a solution to this catch-22?

  • Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox

For me, the problems described in the thread "Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox? " Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
are continuing with Java 7 Update 11.
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Firefox 18
The problem is that "Java(TM) Platform" is missing from the plug-in list.
I've uninstalled Java 7 Update 11 and reinstalled Java Update 9 which correctly installs the plugin and restores Java functionality which was broken immediately upon installing both Java 10 & 11.

So why not using Ju11 ? You can workaround the issue. It would sucks but still be safer than using Ju9.
Also ask Mozilla forums if Firefox has options where to search for plugins.
Or try 64-bit Firefox. As I explained in both threads ...
Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox
... neither jre7u10 nor jre7u11 are working ... and they are BOTH broken with the same problem ... "Java(TM) Platform" pliugin is missing from the plug-in list. It cannot be enabled, because it simply is NOT there. A suggestion was made the jre7u12 will be the "fix" for this issue ... so I installed the Update 12 Preview and it sis ALSO broken, no "Java(TM) Platform" in the plug-in list.
The ONLY Java version that actually works for me is jre7u9.
As far as installing Firefox 64bit ... I see no future in installing a browser that has been discontinued.

Even though Mozilla relented due to backlash, I continued development will be a somewhat low priority.

  • Java broken under Mavericks

I'm on a Mac with OS X Mavericks and Java 7u45. after installing Mavericks you must install JAVA from JAVA.com and the most recent Apple JAVA update (Java For OSX 2013-05), which I did.)
In Java Control Panel > Security, the Security Level "slider" is grayed-out (can't change it, it's set at 'High') and the 'Enable Java content in browser' check-box will not retain a check-mark. So I can't change either of these two settings. This happens as a 'Standard User' with Authentication or logged-in as an 'Administrator'.
I've uninstalled JAVA, reinstalled JAVA, repaired permissions, restarted, etc.
    Any suggestions?

I have a solution that has worked on 2 macs-an iMac and a macbook pro-both that were upgraded to mavericks. I got the help of a very smart person. his diagnosis was that there was interaction between Java 6 and 7 that was not a problem with 10.8.5 but having both is a problem with mavericks. my guess is that you previously installed Java 7 on top of Java 6, which was true for me.
so, we eliminated all java files we could find, uninstalled Java 7, rebooted, flushed caches and reinstalled Java 7.
    here are the specific steps:
-- /library/preferencepanes there is a file called "JavaControlPanel.prefPane" move that to trash
--/library/ move the Java folder to the trash
--/library/ move the Oracle folder to the trash
    --uninstall JRE 7.45
you can do this by finding "JavaAppletPlugin.plugin" and moving it to the trash. that file is in /library/internet plug-ins. described here:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml
--restarted and booted in safe mode (hold down the shift key during restart)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
--once safe boot was finished I logged back in and installed JRE-7u45
at that point the Java control panel was back to working normally. You can adjust the security slider and the "enable Java content in the browser" will be checked.
I do not know whether all these steps are required. I do know that this procedure has restored Java 7 functionality to my machines.
hopefully Oracle will release a revised Java 7 that removes the offending files as part of its installation.
if you follow these steps, let me know the outcome.
    good luck!

    Hi,
I have the same problem on two German windows 8.1 machines! I'm able to install the JDK but not the contained or separate JRE -> tested with JRE 7u67 & JRE8u20.
The suggest workaround (user: 2709705) -> install the english language pack.
Maybe a interessting information -> I saw the "Restore Java security promts" dialog the first time after the english language pack installation & the default display language switch.
    Regards,
    Steve
PS: I had a problem to install the english language pack on my Windows 8.1 machine -> the language pack wasn't available .... the answer of this form thread fixed my problem: Language Pack not usable message in Windows 8.1

  • ITunes crashes every time I try to access the iTunes store

Anyone else getting the error below when opening the iTunes store? Happens every time I try to go the iTunes store home page. Interesting thing is I can still get App Store updates (for my iPod Touch) via iTunes, even though those are going to the store. One of the primary things I know is different in my environment is that I had to restore Java JDK 1.4 and 1.5 (I'm a Java developer and need those to do my work) so I undid Apple's stupid soft links that point 1.4 and 1.5 to 1.6. Even so, I've reverted my changes and it still doesn't work.
The one feature of this constant crashing is that I save money by not buying any music and apps on iTunes. Maybe the crashing is a feature...

  • System copy for PI 7.0 system

    Hi,
We are doing system copy for complete landscape and every time we used to perform PI system copy using SAP standard procedure of backup/restore, Java  exp/imp.
But can we use another approach of exporting IR/ID from source to Target. Because we do not have any transactional data in PI and what are different things that we need to take care if we export individual components.
    Like new ports, we20,we21, IDX1,IDX2
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

    to elaborate more,
we are doing system copy from Dev to Sandbox (we already have working sand box)
    I am planning below steps
    1) export all the software components from development system - Integration repository and Directory
    2) Adjust the transport path in SLD (source Dev and target Sandbox)
    3) Import the software components to Sandbox for Integration repository and Directory.
    4) change user-passwords to match sandbox authentication.
Please let me know if i am missing any steps and has any one did a copy by above procedure.
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

  • Adobe CS5 not working.

    Hi,
I'm trying to use my Adobe CS5 on Mac OS 10.8.5 but it fails silently.
Simply, when I try to launch a CS5 application like Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver, Fireworks... nothing happens.
I used to work with these softwares before and they worked perfectly untill I removed Java 6 and installed Java 7. So I think that Java is responsible for my problem.
I tried to remove and reinstall Adobe Creative Suite, but nothing changed.
I cleaned my system using Creative Cleaning Tool from Adobe's site.
I tryed to install Java for OS X 2013-004 (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572) but It fails with a generic error "Installation failed" and no details.
Also: there is no Java Preferences.app in my /Applications/Utility folder as many discussion on this forum suggest.
    So...
Does exist a stupid-proof procedure to remove Java 7 and restore Java 6?
    Or...
Does anybody knows what is happening to my computer?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your answer, I'll try to keep both, but how can I reinstall Java 6?
I downloaded JavaForOSX2013-004.dmg from this page http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 but it fails:
There are no details about the error, how can I fix this? Where are error logs?

    As noted that isn't SQL.
However contrary to the previous post it is unlikely to be a OS command either. What is is a command to the GUI.
So you have the following options.
    1. Find some way to do the same thing using SQL instead of that.
    2. Find another command line tool from SQLite which does the same thing. This would use Runtime.exec (or Process)
    3. Find a way to run the GUI but provide command line options (like a script file with the above in it) which then runs the commands. This would use Runtime.exec (or Process)

  • Portal hardware migration

    Hi Expert,
We've copied eitire data (file system level) from Actual EP PRD ( Active Active cluster) server and restored into a standalone system. We've successfully tested other server backup restoration (Java Stack) usng the same process.
Now here I'm not able to start the Despather and it is in starting mode.
    I've encountered the error :
    #1.#00144FEE78D500010000028B00003F9C00048A7DF7AD0258#1278173537698#com.sap.engine.core.locking.impl3.LockingManagerImpl##com.sap.engine.core.locking.impl3.LockingManagerImpl.jenqulib#######Thread[SAPEngine_EnquReader,5,main]##0#0#Error#1#/System/Server#Plain###Encomi: failed to connect to <Host Name>/3200/Connection refused)#
OS is Solaris and Database is Oracle. I dont know how to open 3200 port in os level.
    Any Clue?

    Hi,
Check with the configtool that the lockingmanager manager has the correct enqu.host and enqu.port values. I don't think you need entries in the services file...
Also, make sure you have an active network card or loopback adaptor, otherwise the message server can't be accessed
    Thanks,

  • Dreamweaver 5.5 freezing upon opening

I have had CS5.5 for a little over a year now with no issues.  Until about 2 weeks ago... Now, my Dreamweaver will not open properly.  (All other programs work completely fine - it is just a problem with Dreamweaver.)  It will begin to open, show the pallets and the file bar & the welcome screen, but then it will not respond to anything.  The cursor just spins and I end up having to force quit Dreamweaver after several minutes of waiting.  I am at a loss of what to do.  I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled my entire Creative Suite twice and it changes nothing.  I also made sure that I had all the latest updates installed for CS5.5.
I looked on the forums and found something about deleting the preference files, but I can't find what is being referenced.  I don't know if it's different in Mountain Lion now, or what, but the path they say to follow is simply not what I have... I go to Library > Application Support > Adobe > and then there is not a Dreamweaver folder for me to check inside.
The only thing that I can think of that has changed was that there was an update to Java the day before I started noticing the Dreamweaver problem.  I have gone through Apple's instructions to disable Java 7 and restore Java 6, but it didn't change the situation either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Nancy,
Thank you so much for your reply!  I created a new admin level user account and am now able to use Dreamweaver in that account!!  This has greatly relieved my stress
Unfortunately, this has created a separate problem (though not something I can't deal with).  I can use all my design-related programs just fine in the separate account, but some other support programs have issues...  for instance, I can access Suitcase Fusion 3, but none of my fonts are installed under this user account, so it wants me to re-add them to Suitcase... not sure if that will slow my computer down since they are already installed in Suitcase under the main user account or not.  I have not tried yet.  Also, I use Fetch as my FTP client and it is needing a new serial number for that user account.
Again, it's nothing I can't work around, but there are just little issues that are making me feel like I need to go back and forth between the 2 user accounts so I don't bog down my machine or incur unnecessary costs.
This summer when I'm not quite as busy, I may try to do the clean install that you also recommended to see if it helps.
    Thanks again!
    Joy

  • Executable jars are running slow for certain features

A weird problem occured one day. I started running my old jar -packed application. It took more than a minute to load the main window. Also updating file browser window is really slow when I browse from a folder to another. I also tested running other jar applications and they have similar problems. Everything works but certain task are extremely slow.
I reinstalled jre1.6.0_07 but it did not help. Then I uninstalled all jdk's and jre's and installed jdk1.6.0_07 which came with jre1.6.0_07. No result. Do you have any idea where the problem is or what I could try next?

    Problem solved.
It was the mingw that I installed as full installation. Full installation came with a java compiler, which made some specific java features really slow.
Another problem was uninstalling it in a way that would have restored java as it was. I tried uninstalling mingw, manually removing mingw folder, cleared environment variables, removed and reinstalled all java etc. Finally, I just reinstalled everything beginning from OS on my computer

  • Arduino Editor broken under Mavericks?

After being prompted to download java se 6 & performing the installation, I see all kinds of java errors in the editor - even a copy and paste produces errors. Anyone else seing this?

I do know that this procedure has restored Java 7 functionality to my machines.
hopefully Oracle will release a revised Java 7 that removes the offending files as part of its installation.
if you follow these steps, let me know the outcome.
    good luck!
    pete
