Restore Library After Power Surge

3 days ago an electric storm shorted out my computer. When I turned the computer on the following day, my iTunes library was corrupted. The songs that I had on my hard drive remained intact (seemingly).
When I tried to File>Import all of the folders and songs back into iTunes I successfully got back about 50%-60% of my library.
When I go back through the songs that are on my hard drive but didn't get imported and try to re-import them. When I do that, I don't receive any error messages, but the songs do not reimport into my library.
Do you have any idea how to get the files that still remain (but are not in my library) back into my library?
Thanks much for any help!

Have you tried to change ethernet cables? Check where the ethernet cable from computer is connected. It should be in one of the four LAN ports.

my IMAC seems to have died after power surge. It shut down and won't start.  What shall I do?

I would recommend you try an SMC reset at this point:
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that fails to solve it, it is probable that the power surge damaged some of your iMac's hardware components, and will need to be repaired at an Apple Authorized Service Center.

  • Use of WRT54G after Power Surge

I was very satisfied with my WRT54G v2 until I went on vacation and came back.  While on vacation a power surge or lightning struck and wiped out a bunch of things from my garage door opener to office:  cable modem (no ethernet port), router (no internet port), old BEFSR41 used as a switch (power supply dead).
After puttering for awhile, the WRT54G has some limited lifesigns.
    -- wireless access works fine
    -- switch ports work fine
-- Internet port does not work
    Question:
-- Is this something that is serviceable?
-- Can it be converted into an access point or something?
Are old power supplys available for BEFSR41?  or is it just junk now (even with supply, it could be fried)
A few thoughts would be worthwhile

You can still use the router like a wireless switch. It can be either connected straight to a modem for a single wireless computer or be connected to an existing network that has a router.
All you have to do is connect this router to the modem on any of it's switch ports and same thing if it'll be connected to a switch or a router.

  • Apple TV Dead After Power Surge

I believe we had a power surge over the weekend since there were some major storms.  We were not here, but we know the power went off because we had to reset our clocks.  When we tried to use our Apple TV, it would not come on.  The LED would not light and we saw nothing on the TV screen.  The Apple TV was plugged into a surge protector.
We have tried resetting the power, and we have tried connecting it to iTunes, but it does not show up.  Does anyone know what we can do to fix it?
    Thanks! Cody

Did you follow the steps exactly, when trying to restore? Disconnect all cables, connect micro usb, if using a 3rd gen reconnect power.

Make sure to connect directly to computer, not a keyboard port or USB hub. Try a different cable.

  • 17" Powerbook G4 1.67 GHZ - Will not turn on after power surge !!!

This is showing no signs of life after a power surge. Here is what I have done so far:
    AC Adapter - Test OK
DC IN Board - Test OK
    PRAM Battery - Test OK
There is power getting to the logic board, but absolutely NO response when you press the power button. I have tried the oh so famous PMU reset and zero response. The AC adapter glows amber, and no chimes or beeps. Has anyone had the same experience or could steer me in the right direction. I am very fearful it is the logic board, any sugestions?

You might want to take it to a repair shop. Something similar happened to me, but the repair shop took care of it in a few days. (The only things I lost were all the apple loops in GarageBand, but that's fixed too.)

  • IMac won't boot into OSX or XP after power surge.

I was using my computer in XP, and out of the sudden, there was a power surge. The computer turned off, and I tried to turn it back on again, and I heard the "chime" noise that you get when you start up, and then a gray screen. Even if I try to press the option key, nothing happens. any help?

Oh, I don't know how old. That might be the problem.
Also, recently, the computer won't turn on normally (gray screen) after a normal shut down, so I have to unplug everything and wait for a little while before it works again.
Additionally, the computer won't turn the display off after the pre-determined time like it used to. What gives?

  • After power surge g5 won't start.

We had a power surge the other night. Now when I try to start my computer I get a message that says to hold down the power button to restart  the computer and the fans start to run loudly. I tried starting in safe mode but that simply keeps the message from popping up. Ideas? Please help!!

It shouldn't affect that, but may not help is all.
Do you have the Install Disc for this Mac & OS?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • My HP Pavillion A6700y will not power on after power surge

Got home today and the computer was turned off, was told there was 2 power surges today. I can push the power button, it turns on but blue power light doesnt, I can hear the fans turning on and being really loud but nothing comes up on monitor. Opened the case my power supply's fan (bought a few months back) turns on, same with the video card fan and the fans on the board. Anyone have any ideas to what could be wrong? Thanks

Removing the power strip is a fairly common elimination practice and not a speculation practice....
The Thermaltake power supply tester is an example of using the correct tool.
To cause a failure, that power strip must reduce voltage so low that a connected incandescent bulb dims to less than 40% intensity. Removing a power strip implies basic electrical concepts are missing.  A perfectly normal voltage for all computers is even when incandescent bulbs dim to 40% intensity.  If any power strip causes that voltage reduction, then the power strip is also hot and obviously dangerous.
Normal is for a defective power supply to be reported good by a power supply tester.  That tester cannot report a long list of potential defects.  For example, it provides a near zero (insufficient) load.  It does not report numbers that report on other potential defects.  It does not test other components of the power system.   It costs almost as much as a meter that reports on so many other possible defects - and more.   Those who better know this stuff can provide little assistance without numbers from that meter. Numbers are essential.
Best that tester can report is, "maybe a supply is good".  And say nothing about other power system components.

  • Can no longer view photo library, after power fail (during LR upload)

    Good day.
My computer power failed during a LR3, beta2 upload.
After restarting, I can no longer see any of the images in my library (~50k images) that were not part of the upload...but they are still there.  In the 'grid' screen, gray boxes appear, but instead of images within those gray boxes, I see lighter gray portrait/landscape rectangles.
I'm certain that the images are there, but I can only see the images if I am in the 'develop' window, 1 image at a time.
I am hesitant to reinstall lightroom, as I do not want to loose my LR catalog (and have not backed up in a bit...yes yes, I know).
Any help would be greatly appreciated*
    Thanks!

Those are the classic symptoms of a corrupted preview cache. There is a folder named <whatever>previews.lrdata that lives next to your lightroom catalogue which is named <whatever>.lrcat. Delete the .lrdata folder (and all its sub-folders) (but NOT the catalogue file!) and restart lightroom. It will rebuild your preview cache, and all will be well.

  • Restoring Library after PC Crash

My Windows PC with iTunes Library Crashed.  Am trying to get to the point where my iPad, iPhones, and iPod can sync with the new library.  I have transfered all the content from my devices to the PC to get the music files onto the new PC and into iTunes.  I then exported the playlists of my phone onto the PC, and then imported those playlists into iTunes.  I did have to use an app called Syncios to copy 10 MPEG audio files that would not otherwise transfer from my iphone to my PC.  Once I copied those files to the PC via Syncios, I was able to import them into my iTunes Library...those files were from a CD, not the iTunes store.
Bottom line, it seems I have restored all my media and playlists from my phone.  But when I try to sync which requires my phone's media to be deleted and replaced with that from the PC...its saying I dont have sufficient memory...I cant figure out why every thing fits now, but wont fit after the sync?

Additional info.  On the music tab where you select which playlists to sync, the bar graph at the bottom seems to depict I should have additonal space...yet why I try to sync, it fails saying I need an additional 2GBytes of memory.  Is that bar graph inaccurate?   Do I need to delete the media off my phone manually for the sync to finally work?  Seems like maybe its needing some temp space to get through the process?

  • Restore library after install

Did a clean install of 10.10.3 and the Photos library restored. The display is a complete mess at the moment; most the icons just black or white and no images. Does anyone know of a way to force the application to rebuild the icons, like some cache file or other display files that can be dumped and force the application to rebuild? Currently the application is just this side of unusable.

You can't modify the Library folder for the currently logged in user. Also you don't want to do the copy from the TimeMachine folders - those files have special permissions and ACL attributes that the real Library doesn't need and will likely cause problems.
What I would do if I were you would be to restore the Library folder to a temporary location, then logout and with another admin type user (create another if you don't already have a spare admin user) and then use this (assume xxx is first user with problematic Library and yyy is second admin type user and that the temporary Library restore folder is located in ~/xxx/templibraryfolder)
         cd ~/xxx
         sudo mv Library Library-xxx
         sudo ditto templibraryfolder ~/xxx/Library
    sudo will prompt for password
then logout of yyy account/user and login as original xxx account/user
or even better would be to use Time Machine to restore the ~/xxx/Library folder while logged in as the yyy user (after renaming the ~/xxx/Library folder to ~/xxx/Library-xxx
Then logout from yyy and login as xxx and if everything looks ok, remove the ~/Library-xxx folder as they can be quite large (will need to do
         sudo rm -rf ~/xxx/Library
Don't do the above until you know things are working fine - so wait a while till you use all apps (or a lot of them especially licensed software like Adobe or other difficult to install apps)
~ is just a shortcut for the current users home folder -- e.g. if you logged in as Tom it would be /Users/Tom
Is that clear?? - don't proceed if you have any questions -- you're about to make a change that if not done correctly will cause lots of problems, so type carefully and have fun...and pat yourself on the back for making backups!!

  • Restore Library after hard drive format

I had to reformat my Windows hard drive and, of course, then I had to restore my Itunes Library. My music files are stored in a different HD so, I didnt have to back them up. I restored my library using the method described in this page article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313.
It worked fine, but now all my play counts are gone. How can I have them back? I have all my playlists, even the song ratings, but no play counts. Did I do something wrong? I haven't sync'ed my iPod yet, som I still have my play counts in it.
    Thanks for your help.

Our hard drive crashed completely and we installed a completely new hard drive. My sister and I both shared the same library for our Videos. She plugged her's into the computer and all the music was erased almost immediately. How can I plug my ipod in with out having the music and other files erased??? Is there any way I can transfer music from my ipod onto her's??

  • How to restore library after hard drive reformat?

Hello, I am going to reformat my Mac Pro's boot drive, and I want to make sure my iTunes library remains intact (I'm using iTunes 12).
I keep my iTunes music files on a 2nd internal hard drive, in a folder that I titled "iTunes Folder". I also plan to reformat this internal hard drive.
I have backups of both drives on an external hard drive. I'm assuming that in order to restore my iTunes library, playlists, etc., to their current state, I simply need to a) restore the user/Music/iTunes folder to its current state and b) restore the "iTunes Folder" to my 2nd internal drive. Is that correct? Or is there a different way that it should be done?
    Thanks.

how do i restore my i tunes libray after my computer crashed

Copy it from your backup copy of your computer.

  • Restoring library after Windows install

I reinstalled Windows on my PC. Rather than restore the library from backup, in iTunes I selected added folder to library. This imported all my audio files. I have since downloaded additional songs as well.
Some of the songs previously had start and stop options settings. Now they reverted back to 0:00. I don't know what else is different.
What would happen now if I overwrite the library files?
    Thanks.

It should go back to the way it was with the ratings, play counts, etc.
I think the start/stop times would be back in place, as well.
    Easy enough to try, anyway!
