Restore Lock Screen in Windows 8.1
I deleted the lock screen in Windows 8.1 and now realize I need it. How can I get it back?
I deleted using Windows+R "regedit" using this link
http://media.askvg.com/downloads/2012/11/Disable-Windows-8-Lock-Screen.zip
Is there a way to get the lock screen back?
Hi,
The registry you posted here are this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"NoLockScreen"=dword:00000001
so you just need to launch regedit editor by run regedit.exe, then locate to the right place, set the value back to 0, then restart your PC.
or just run the "restore....reg" as David mentioned.

Change default logon/startup/lock screen in windows 8 pro
Hi,
I want to change my default logon screen, the one that appears when I boot. I have changed the lock screen within my account, but I can't change the one (that I beleive is) for the default user. I have seen some complicated steps to copy over a file
in systemdata folder for the default user profile, but It seems really awful to do it in my notebook (which is not joined to a domain, and it is Windows 8 Pro). So, is there a simple way to do it? Why my personalized lock screen isn't shown?
Regards,
MarianoC.Thanks MarianoC, you got me closer to solving my lock screen problem. Sorry about your lock screen presets issue, glad that is not an issue for me, as I see you have given up. I wanted to post my more detailed solution description
here, since this was one of the fist places I landed while researching this.
I fixed mine by replacing the default Lock Screen image files.
You can find them here C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\ReadOnly
Caution---You have to have hidden files visible, and you also have to understand how to take ownership of folders and assign ownership and permissions (it's not that difficult, search if
you don't know how).
I had 2 folders in that location W and Z;
The W folder already had my selected Lock Screen picture.
The W folder may have been the result of a previous tweak I tried, it had the newer photo I had selected already, if your W doesn’t have your photo and you have issues maybe replace it too.
If you don’t have a W folder I wouldn’t sweat it for now.
I had my luck with the Z folder, it contained the default space needle picture in 2 versions; dimmed and plain (I didn't look for a visual difference).
I replaced both of them with my chosen lock screen picture.
There are 2 ways to do this;
1st is to rename your original file (add a 1 to the name, you can go back to original easier this way). Replace it with picture of your choosing with the exact same name as original.
You must assign full permission to the system account.
Warning. This method seems safer but I could not figure out how to assign permission to the trusted installer account, which existed previously for this file, this could inhibit some future compatibility.
2nd way preserves system and trusted installer permissions.
Create your lock screen pictures in a separate folder, with exactly the same names as your 2 original files.
Copy/Paste the files into the Z folder, you will get asked to replace existing.
If you say yes it should preserve security settings but update the photo. -
I was wondering if anyone knows how to restore the lock screen wallpaper (Water droplets) for the iPhone 4. I changed my image and now want to reset it. Please help.
Thanks,
RoyRoy - If you're talking about the grey with water droplets, it's the first option in the included wallpapers. Click Settings / Wallpaper. Then, click the less than symbol ">". Then, click Wallpaper and take your pick.

Fast App resume not working under passcode lock screen on windows phone 8
I have implemented Fast resume in my windows phone 8 app and its working fine in every case except following scenario.
Steps:
Suspend the app
Phone is password locked
Toast is received.
Tap on toast.
App is activated.
The page which was last on backstack opens up with reset state.
No more navigation
In Fast Resume app should receive one more navigation with deep link on tapping on toast which is missing in this case.
Could anyone please help me out to achieve desired navigation functionality?Hi
Please provide correct info when you start your question,
string toastMessage = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>" +
"<wp:Notification xmlns:wp=\"WPNotification\">" +
"<wp:Toast>" +
"<wp:Text1>[string]</wp:Text1>" +
"<wp:Text2>[string]</wp:Text2>" +
"<wp:Param>[string]</wp:Param>" +
"</wp:Toast>" +
"</wp:Notification>";
add wp param in the toast xml
You can use the Param element to deep link to a specific screen in your app. Here are the allowed formats. Any string used for the following examples must be 256 characters or less.
/page1.xaml – Defines the screen to navigate to in the app when the app starts. The string must begin with a "/".
/page1.xaml?value1=1234 &value2=9876 – Defines the screen to navigate to when the app starts, along with name/value pairs of info. The string must begin with a "/".
?value1=1234 &value2=9876 – Contains name/value pairs of info passed to the default start screen of the app. The string must begin with a "?".

How to get back default Lock Screen Image of Windows 8.1
I recently upgraded windows 8 to Windows 8.1, but it reset my custom lock screen image . I tried for default lock screen of windows 8.1.I can't find any default lock screen
images of windows 8.1 (Only custom images are available). How to get default lock screen images? Does any any one know? please help me..The last "solution" works only for pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and clicking
Lock. If you sign out of Windows and sign back in, that ghastly Windows 8.1 lock screen picture will come back.
You can delete the img100.png file from your WinSxS folder: right lick on this file, click Properties, click the Security tab, click Edit, click Add, type your Windows user name in the white rectangle under "Enter the object
name to select", click Check Names, click OK, then click Advanced, click Change, take ownership of the file, give yourself Full control over this file, click Apply and then OK. You may see your name three times in the Security tab (as user, administrator,
and yourself). Make sure that each instance has full Control
If this does not work, you can disable the Lock Screen: press Windows+R, type
gpedit.msc, click OK, in the Local Group Policy Editor window that opens click on Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization, right click on the "Do not display the lock screen" option, click
Edit, check Enabled, then click Apply and OK.
This, however, is a workaround rather than a real solution, which, it seems, Microsoft does not have.
I have exactly the same issue with the horrid stripey thing. Furthermore, in Settings, Lock Screen Preview is completely blank both on current and past images.
I've tried all the tips I've found around the web with no success. I get the horrid stripey thing back.
I found this freeware called Lock Screen Customizer. Seems to work so far but time will tell. (Note that the download includes both win8 and win8.1 versions.) -
Custom lock screen GPO not working for domain users
I have a WS2012 standard server with W8 Pro clients. I'm trying to force the lock screen to a .jpg however it's not working, it leaves the users with just a standard blueish screen.
I have the "force a specific default lock screen image" enabled with the path \\MRS-DC\WP\mrc_lock_screen.jpg
The GPO is being applied according to the results wizard, however no image. What gives?Hi,
Please refer to the below articles:

Hi
I wish to change the image used for the Lock Screen in Windows 8.1. When I try I am unable to navigate to the folder that contains the image I wish to use. Instead the Libraries are shown. Where is the Browse button that will allow me to navigate the computer
and choose the image I wish to use? I have many thousands of images, and several folders are not included within the Libraries.
ThanksHi,
If my understanding is right, we could use the browse button to choose the pictures in the computer.
Please take the following steps to change the lock screen picture.
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap
Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click
Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
2. Tap or click PC and devices, then tap or click Lock screen.
3. If you want to use just one photo on your lock screen, tap or click
Browse, and then choose the picture you want (you can choose photos on your PC or OneDrive).
For more information, please refer to the following article.

Windows 8.1 stuck on lock screen.
After updating the February 2014 patch Tuesday my Shuttle XS35GS computer will not go past the lock screen. I can see the time and date and network icon. Usually I would press a key on the keyboard or click the mouse and the picture would move up and I
would be presented with my user where I type my password. I have tried wireless and wired keyboards and mice. All have power, the caps light comes on the and the mouse laser is red and the pointer moves around the screen but the lock screen will not slide
up and allow me to enter the password. I have to users on the machine and I can't switch to another as the left arrow button is on the next screen, which I can't get to. Any ideas anyone please?Hi,
If the suggestion of S.Sengupta doesn't resolve the issue, please boot from your Windows 8/8.1 installation media to repair it:
1.Insert a Windows 8/8.1 DVD, or a flash drive with the Windows 8/8.1 installation files on it, into your computer.
Tip: You can borrow someone else's Windows 8/8.1 disc or other media if you need to. You're not installing or reinstalling Windows 8/8.1, you're just accessing Advanced Startup Options - no product key or license breaking required.
2.Boot from the disc or boot from the USB device.
3.From the Windows Setup screen, tap or click on Next.
4.Tap or click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom of the window.
5.Advanced Startup Options will start, almost immediately.
6.Select System Restore to roll back to a time when everything works fine.

Windows always shows lock screen when idle, ignores setting
On Windows 8, I had my computer set up so that the screen would turn off after a period of inactivity. When I would move the mouse or press a key, it would resume without asking me to log in. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, it is now always showing me the
lock screen when resuming from idle. In the lock screen settings, I found a new option named "When my PC is inactive, show the locks screen instead of turning off the screen". I have disabled this setting, but my computer still locks every time the
screen turns off.
How can I get my computer to stop locking when it is idle?Hi,
What about the settings in Screen Saver? Please check the Option "On resume, display logon screen" is unchecked.

My daughter stopped using her iPad when she got an iPhone for Christmas. It has been over one month and she has forgotten her passcode. I tried to wipe it via Find my iPhone but it won't connect to the wifi even though wifi is switched on on the lock screen. I then tried to restore it through iTunes but was unable to becuase Find my iPhine was switched on so I removed the iPad from the device list only to find that it didn't solve anything with the iTunes situation and it still won't connect to the wifi. I ahve tried turning wifi on and off, tried leaving the house and re-entering all to no avail. Is there any other way to restore the iPad????
FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug (very important)
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Windows 8.1 lock screen
Hi there,
I would like to ask about lock screen. Normally, when I turn the screen off using function key, it will lock the screen and when I press any key, windows will ask for authentication. But after receive some updates, I cannot not do this anymore. The screen
will turn on and go directly into the screen without asking any passwords so I would like to ask how to lock the screen automatically when I turn the screen off.
Thank you for your helpHi,
In alternative way, we can try following steps:
Windows key + L (lock screen)
Set the lock screen timeout to turn off display:

Windows 8.1 Lock Screen drops network connectivity when screen locked using Win+L
Hi!
I was sent here from Microsoft Community forum. The question is:
Since Windows NT 4.0 I'm using Lock Screen to prevent people from accessing my computer when I'm leaving my room. First I was using CTRL+ALT+DEL / Lock Screen, then switched to Win+L keyboard shortcut when it was first introduced.
Everything was fine until I switched to Windows 8.1 computer (Sony Vaio Duo 13 with Broadcom wireless network controller). This machine is 8.1, not 8.0 upgraded to 8.1.
My problem is that when I hit Win+L combo the Lock Screen (with clock etc.) is displayed. Then, despite I have configured not to turn off display, the screen goes blank (after 30 seconds since lock) and network connectivity is cut off from desktop
apps (I suspect the system goes into Active Standby mode, because Modern UI apps like Tune-In radio keep working fine).
100% repeatable scenarios:
## Scenario 1 ##
1) Log in
2) Open desktop app that uses network connectivity. Outlook 2013 from Office365 subscription
3) Check that it has connected
4) Lock screen (Win+L)
5) Wait for 30 seconds (first incorrectly posted as few minutes) as screen goes black
6) Unlock screen (using password)
7) In right corner of Outlook app you will see "Unable to connect with Exchange server" and few seconds later it will reconnect sucessfuly
## Scenario 2 - the more annoying ##
1) Log in to Win 8.1 computer
2) Connect to it using SMB (in my case I wanted to transfer 30 GB of files from local hard drive C: to server) \\COMPUTER-NAME\c$ from Windows Server 2012 R2
3) Start copying files from computer to server
4) Lock the screen on computer
5) As soon as screen goes black server displays message "Lost connection to the resource. Try again?"
6) Unlock screen on the computer
7) Click "Try again" and it will continue copying files
My power settings are set to go into stand by after 5 hours and if I not lock the screen it doesn't go to sleep before 5 hours.
When I lock the screen using Win+L it goes into (probably Active) Standby mode.
Is there any way to prevent it from going to Active Standby when locking screen? I need the screen lock for security reasons but I don't want it to drop my network connectivity on remote desktops, file transfers and other desktop activities before 5 hour
timeout.
This issue is not related to more or less known wireless network connectivity problem that happens to many Intel Haswell computers. Mine doesn't exhibit those problems. I can easly push 100 - 200 GB of wireless data without network drops.
Computer information:
Sony Vaio Duo 13: SVD1322C5E

Best regards,
SergiuszSame issue here using Surface 3 Pro with either internal WLAN or MS USB LAN Adapter. I'm frequently used to keep open connections over SSH to some servers. On switching to lock screen explicitly by pressing Win+L or implicitly due to idle timeout all
connections to servers are lost. In addition, I don't get any notifications on incoming Skype messages (using Skype for desktop) when lock screen is active.
Neither NIC is showing "Power Management Tab" according to step 5 of instructions above.
Additionally observing USB LAN NIC seems to be kept active after activating lock screen, but traffic stops (according to its flashing light) when lock screen is switching off display. Blanking display doesn't seem to be adjustable in System Settings (Energy
Options accessed through Win+X).
Find attached log file of powercfg -energy -duration 300 ...
Log file is in German. It basically claims unset timeouts for deactivating display while running attached to power supply though lock screen is turning off displays within 1-2 minutes.
