Restore mac book pro

i need to restore my labtop to original condition.  nothing seems to work.  i have updated th os from snow leopard

It would help if you provide the OS that was original to your MBP. In any case you need to boot from the original OS installer disk and do an Erase & Install. Why does nothing seem to work? What have you done?

  • I transferred data from my external hard drive to my restored Mac Book Pro via migration assistant and now my external hard drive in time capsule has red minus signs. How do I get rid of that without getting rid of any of my data?

I used Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my external hard drive via Time Capsule to my restored Mac Book Pro. When I now go into Time Capsule I there are red minus signs in the corner of all the folders that are contained in my back up. How do I get rid of this and access my previous back-ups?

Select the drive and Finder > Get info and at the bottom "ignore permissions on this volume"
You can copy the files, but the ownership on the files still belongs to the other user account, once your done copying, then perform a #6 Reset Users Permissions and that will set all the ownership to that account.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Another method is to copy the entire folder, then change it's permissions.

That depends on what you mean by "restore," what system your MacBook Pro came with when it was new, and/or what backups you have taken.

  • Restoring Mac book Pro to Lion

I am trying to restore my macbook pro to the Factory default..  I go through the process to restore Lyon and when i enter the apple ID I get the message that says that I need to use an apple ID that was used to purchase Lion.  Is it possible to restore with a different apple ID?  Thanks

    Siggersh,
if you look at the left-hand “side” of your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, does it say
    13-inch
    MacBook Pro
in large type? If it doesn’t, what does it have there? If you look at the lower-left “corner” of that DVD, you’ll see a few lines of small type with this pattern:
    Mac OS version Mac_OS_X_version
    Disc version disc_version
    2Z691-digits-A
What are its values for Mac_OS_X_version, disc_version, and digits? The kernel version in your photo suggests that that disc is for Leopard rather than for Snow Leopard; if that’s the case, then that disc does not go with an Early 2011 MacBook Pro, and those values will help to identify which model Mac it does go with.

  • Restoring Mac Book Pro

Im restoring my Macbook pro retina after i backup the hardrive to timemachine, but i was wondering if i have to reinstall Mountain lion before i can reistall the time machine data?

Now you don't need to reinstall Mountain Lion! Though I would recommend you to reinstall it! I'm not quite sure which files Time Machine uses from the old installation if there is one!

  • TS3694 Just took my 1st gen iPod out of it's original box, never used before.  Plugged it into my new Mac book Pro and it recognizes that the iPod is in recovery mode but when I click to restore, error 1611 comes up - but that error code doesn't say what

I had an 8GB 1st gen iPod in it's original box in storage and just took it out to hook it up.  Charged it overnight, plugged it into new Mac Book Pro and it was recognized as being an iPod in recovery but other identifying information was all indicated as "n/a" (so, unknown OS, etc).  Error code 1604 came up so I downloaded iTunes on the Mac Book and it is currently showing version 10.  But now when I try to restore the iPod, error code 1611 comes up and the troubleshooting doesn't tell me what else to try.  The USB connector that came with the iPod was also never used before - brand new also from the box so that should be fine.  I also tried a different USB port on the Mac Book.  Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want to erase the disk, reinstall Mac OS X and your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you have OS X Mountain Lion or Lion:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting.
    2. Open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X.
If your Mac came with DVDs:
    1. Insert the OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X

    Hi there saharalirezaie,

Mac book pro stops responding after Maverick OS restart. Currently have a circle with a line through it after 20+ hours. Tried to shut it down and use the Time Machine to restore but no response. How can I restore with Time Machine if it will not start?

    sonjadg,
you can purchase a replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for your MacBook Pro from either Apple or iFixit. If Startup Manager is only showing an OS X Installer volume, then it sounds like the Mavericks installer had a problem midway through its installation process. To fix this, you’re going to need to erase your internal disk and reïnstall your original version of OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD, use Software Update  to get it back to 10.6.8 (presuming that your MacBook Pro originally came with Snow Leopard), and then restore from Time Machine.

  • Restoring original adjustments of a Mac Book Pro 13 last model

    Good morning
I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but  before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to  restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
    Secondary question:
Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)?
    Or is there other possibilities?
Thanks for your Help. I would'nt like to go the Apple Store and have it done for me, and die an idiot. (french expression)
    Cathy

Doing a Clean re-install of Lion would not hurt as yes the failed MA may have placed certain thing on the system before it finally failed, I wouldn't know about that.
If you chose to do that look into creating a Lion Install USB thumb drive so you never have to download the Lion install files again and so you won't need a internet connection to re-install Lion.
IMHO it really isn't a time eater. IMHO it is the only way to have New computer without all the JUNK you have collected on the old one transfered over. It is the only way I setup a NEW computer. Buy the computer, Windows or Mac, Wipe the drive and reinstall the OS CLEAN. Install the programs I want on the new computer and then copy my personal files over.
Now there will be other opinions on this. Some of the Apple Fan Boys will state that OS X is so great that it never needs cleaning or a reinstall. That has not been my experience over the years of working on other peoples Macs.

  • I keep getting the error message "Restore Windows"  Finder application quit unexpectedly.  When I click an icon on the desktop on my Mac Book Pro it does not respond.

I keep getting the error message "Restore Windows"  When I click an icon on  the desktop on my Mac Book Pro, it is not reaponding.

While holding down the option key, select "Go>Library" from the Finder. Navigate to the Preferences folder and you'll find "com.apple.finder.plist". Delete that file and restart.
    Good luck,

  • How can i restore safari web browser on my mac book pro?

how can i restore safari web browser on my mac book pro?

Backup your system/data then start up holding down Command + R and select to reinstall your OS X. You have not mentioned which OS X you are using. If you have somehow deleted the Safari App for some reason, you need to reinstall the OS X to reinstall Safari properly. You should not lose any data, but if you do, then that is what the backup is for.
