Restore macbook pro with apple "Backup 3.1.2" software.

Last month my 12 and 17 inch powerbook G4 were stolen. I did have backups on 2 external hard drives. One was a manual back up (drag/drop) and the other I used the apple "backup 3.1.2" software. I was trying to restore my new macbook pro from the apple backup software. I kept receiving errors. Is backup 3.1.2 compatible with 10.5.6 and/or how can I restore all my data to my new macbook pro? Thanks and appreciate the help.

I know it's not very helpful, but to answer your question regarding compatibility, I use Backup 3.1.2 to backup specific sensitive data to a secure web-space every night. I have had an occasion to need something from that backup and have had no problems with restores. 3.1.1 is the 10.5 cutoff, as I recall.
Couple of thoughts as I was putting this reply together. Where are you storing the resulting backup data, maybe there was a problem with the write between your computer and that location? I bring this up because you might have other data on that drive which may need to be looked at. This really does you no good now, but the backup program also creates logs in your console which you can review. If there were problems, you can look there to see what the issue(s) are.
Final thoughts, is your entire backup corrupted, or just portions of it? In other words, can you get SOME data out of the backup, or can you not even open the file? If you have a drag/drop backup I would at least start with that and see how much of your data you can get restored.
Hopefully some of that helps. Been in your shoes and it's not fun. Good luck!

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Restoring macbook pro with time machine

I have a macbook pro and I since putting Leopard on it (Archive and install) I am having all kinds of applications crashing and freezing. I am making my first time machine back up right now. What I want to know is if after the back up is done I want to do a clean install of Leopard and the restore my data and applications.
Will I be able to restore all my applications as well as my data from time machine? Or will I have to go to all my applications websites and re-download the programs?
    Thank you
    Joe

    Joe,
With a complete Time Machine backup, you can completely restore everything. When you boot to the Leopard Install disk, and after you have used Disk Utility (from the installer's "Utilities" menu) to format (erase) your hard drive, you can use the "Restore From a Time Machine Backup" utility. Open this from the "Utilities" menu, just as you do Disk Utility. Obviously, you'll need the backup drive connected and powered on at the time.
This said, I'm not sure that you want to use this. If you have a damaged system, that damage will undoubtedly be reproduced in your Time Machine backup. There is even the possibility that the backup is not "viable" enough to be restored in this manner.
I recommend you give it a try, anyway. Restoring from a Time Machine backup takes considerably less time than a "normal" installation; you will only waste minimal time, if the restoration or the resultant installation fails.
If you do run into problems, you can reinstall normally (from the Leopard disk) and restore your files from the Time Machine afterward. In this case, I recommend that your applications be reinstalled again manually.

  • Slideshows in LR 2.7 on Apple MacBook Pro with Apple Remote

    Hi
I am making a presentation on next Monday evening using my MacBook and a hi-resolution projector.  I should like to use a Lightroom slideshow, but I can't find a way of using an Apple Remote to control the slideshow.  If anyone has any experience of doing this and can help. I'd be mighty grateful.
    Thanks
    Chris

Does the Apple rmeote have a config where you can assign gestures to keystrokes?  Then you could remap things. Check the web for hacks that some folks have come up with to facilitate this. (e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Remote)
Otherwise, the Apple remote is really only understood by certain Apple applications via an OS service. You'd be better off just buying a presentation controller of some kind.  These are very common and not too expensive.

  • I just bought a used macbook pro, with Apple Care.  How do I transfer AC into my name?

I just bought a MBP from a private party.  It has Apple Care until Oct. 2012.  Do I need to transfer AC into my name or does it just remain with the MBP regardless of who owns it?  If I need to transfer it, does anyone know how I go about doing it?  Thanks.

  • Using Alesis multimix 12, Alesis 520 usb powered monitors on a macbook pro with apple logic pro 9

I can only get sound from my mixer and logic pro 9 from my internal comp speakers, but when I connect the usb powered monitors no sound. I can play itunes through the monitors but for some reason I cannot use the multimix and powered montiors, both being usb, at the same time. Any suggestions?

Yes, but when just the multimix is plugged in it finds it in input, and when I connect the monitors it takes away the input and then the speakers are in the output but I cannot use them togther. Last night I coneceted the Alesis io2 interface and works, actually sounds better with my guitar tracks than the mixer.

i cannot mirror my macbook pro with apple tv,there is no tab to select in display settings

That's because the mirror setting, known as Airplay does not work with Mac OS X 10.7.5.
You need 10.8 or later and a
AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later; iPad mini; iPhone 4s; iPhone 5; iPod touch (5th generation); and iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer) with Mountain Lion.

Note, Mac OS X 10.9.2 has issues with Airplay, and is the only really secure version of 10.9 at the present time.

  • I have a macbook pro with IOS 10.6.8 and my itunes is version 11.0.1, can I airplay to an apple TV?

please help, I have a macbook pro with a IOS 10.6.8 operating system, I just opperated my ituned to version 11.0.1. Can I airplay my macbook to an apple tv?

On Snow Leopard, you can't use AirPlay Mirroring, but if you upgrade to Mountain Lion, you will be able to use AirPlay MIrroring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, first make a backup of your files. Then, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion, and follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you don't want to upgrade Mac OS X, you can also install AirParrot > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you are referring to AirPlay on iTunes, you can do it. The AirPlay icon will appear on the iTunes toolbar when your computer detects the Apple TV

  • Hi, I have a macbook pro with a new hard drive installed. My WD external drive backup on time machine now wont let me access the files. I get a prompt saying 'you do not have permission to access the files'

hi, I have a macbook pro with a new hard drive installed and restored. My WD external drive backup on time machine now wont let me access the files. I get a prompt saying 'you do not have permission to access the files' After my new drive was installed I plugged in time machine and it started backing up. I paused it when I realised that it was running for more than a few minutes. I now realise that it probably started backing up the new hard drive all over again. Which makes me think that the original back up must be on the WD back I cant seem to access it. Any ideas would be helpful.

I am using a macbook pro with system 10.6.8. I just discovered that no recent files have been backed up to the external disk using Time Capsule.  There is a long list of backups including most recent but no recent files, for some weeks, have been backed up.  I did a full reset of Time Machine.  I disconnected the external drive and reconnected it. It is not a matter of file types, no files and no folders have gotten backed up.  Everything looks normal though unless one goes hunting for recent files on the back up.

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Upgrade apple Macbook pro with retina

Hi, i alredy know that the ram and the flash storage are soldered to the board in the new macbook pro with retina display but i just wondering if i go to an apple store could they send my macbook pro to apple and upgrade the ram and the flash storage and then send me back??? I alredy bought it an it cost me a lot but now i have the money to upgrade the ram and flash storage can i do it that way??

I'd rather suggest: Call Apple or take an appointment and walk into he store. They can't just turn you back. Apple can give you an upgrade even though the RAM in soldered in. They do it for the iPad all the time, tap hey simply take your unit and give you anothe and you pay e difference. They use stock that is different from the retail packages nd may run out from time to time but I don't believe you are stock with it. At the worst, you may pays bit more than the initial upgrade cost and be sure to backup before you go.

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:

  • Can I have an iPhone, ipad and MacBook Pro with the same apple id

Can I have an iPhone, ipad and MacBook Pro with the same apple id. When I use I tunes it get confusing and I have a paid app that needs the same id

When syncing the iPhone and iPad with iTunes on your computer that is logged in with the Apple ID you plan on using on all three, the Apple ID should be transferred to the iPhone and iPad for the iTunes & App Stores on each device. If not, you'll need to sign out of the existing Apple ID on the iPhone and iPad followed by signing in with the Apple ID you want to use on both.
Keep in mind that all 3rd party apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download the apps. With an app installed on your iPad and iPhone that was downloaded with a different Apple ID from the one you will be using now, you will need to use that Apple ID and password to install app updates for those apps. Not possible to transfer apps purchased with one Apple ID to another or to merge Apple IDs.

  • I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine.  I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option?  I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt!  Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours???  I've been hearing these horror stories...
