Greetings community; I've a challenge for you. I've got a Macbook Pro3, 1. It came with iOS 10.6 (Leopard). Since having it, I upgraded: 1) to Snow Leopard and then 2) Mountain Lion. Too, I had to have it serviced for an issue having to do with the NVidia 8600 (Rosetta thing), which I hardly understood then or now.
Now, I need to restore it factory settings. I've got the original "Install Disk 1 and 2." When I put Disk 1 into the drive and restart holding "C," it takes me to a utility screen that I cannot see. The screen is covered in horizontal blue, white and black lines. I can make out only some of the text, hence I cannot perform the reformat and reinstall procedures.
So, here is what I did. I used the "Snow Leopard" (Upgrade) CD to open DU. I completely wiped HD and reformatted. When I rebooted from the Install Disk, I still had the blue, black and white lines. I cannot make out the writing but I can make out enough to know that I'm at the menu where I chooose language. HElp.

I have pretty well stock MacBook Pro 8,3 that would restart after shutdown with lid open and connected to charger. Also there was a process called "powerd" running out of control with 100% of a core utilization at the time. I reset the SMC twice and the problem has stopped for now.

I think you are not restoring your files in the correct way.
If what you want to do is to restore a complete Time Machine backup, you have to do it in OS X Recovery, so first hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up. Then, choose the option to restore a Time Machine backup, and follow its steps.

1. Press Command, Option and R keys when your computer starts and open Disk Utility.
2. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the disk.
3. Install Mac OS X.
If it came with discs:
1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and press C key when your Mac starts.
2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the disk.

I have an old macbook pro3,1 (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, I think 2007), builtin camera not working and I think it is related to mavericks update.
Anyone had the same problem, and if yes what is the solusion?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
     computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
     screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

Can't restore MacBook Pro to factory - won't recognize Wi-Fi

I am selling my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and need to restore the computer to factory settings. I have de-authorized my computer in iTunes and backed it up. I do not have any factory disks. I am pretty good at saving everything that came with my computers and peripherals, and I don't recall getting any disks with this computer. They are not in the original box (but the receipt is). The computer is running perfectly with no issues.
Anyway, my problem arises when I try to boot while holding Command + Option + R. It brings up a screen with a small spinning Earth icon and a bar that says "Choose Network". Clicking this bar produces a drop down menu of two local wifi networks - neither of which are mine (my MacBook automatically recognizes my network when it's running regularly). If I choose the three dots below these listed networks, it brings up a screen with two blank spaces. The first has the wifi symbol next to it, and the other has a padlock. I assume this is to manually enter the SSID and password for my network. I tried entering these very carefully, and it acts as if it's looking for the network. But 5 minutes later, it's still thinking.
I'm stuck at this screen. Is there any way to get the MacBook to recognize my wifi? Thanks for your help.

I am very anal about keeping everything that comes with a computer. I don't misplace or lose them. I've been buying computers since '88, and I am very careful to maintain original items. I searched the original MacBook Pro box several times, and there's nothing in there but the original purchase receipt from the Apple Store and the form fitting black plastic tray and cushion.
I did try wiring the system, and that's when it tried to restore Lion (and wouldn't let me do a restore of anything else).
Are you saying that if I do upgrade to Lion, and then do a system restore, then the buyer will not be able to use Lion?

So I recently got a MacBook Pro, currently running OS X 10.7.4 Lion. I am well-versed in the world of Windows, however am quite new when it comes to macs (whole reason why I got it).
I'm trying to restore it to its factory settings without owning a restore disc. The HDD only has one partition (no recovery partition).
I have located and downloaded a torrent for an OS X installer, specifically a .dmg image file containing OS X 10.7.
I tried burning that image to a DVD, but when I go to boot from the DVD (to my understanding, this is done by holding "C" during boot) it doesn't work, and just continues to proceed to the logon screen as it normally would.
I have tried converting the image from a .dmg to a .iso (something I am far more familiar with) using one of my Windows machines, and then burning that to a DVD, however, it yields the same result as above.
I have tried using the Disc Utility to format a flash drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) and then using the same Disc Utility to "restore" the image file to the USB drive. When I go to boot from this (holding alt/option at boot) it shows the internal HDD as the only bootable drive.
Is it possible that since I am technically running a newer version of Mac OS X (10.7.4 and using an installer of 10.7) that it will not allow me to do so? I know Apple has made it difficult to downgrade iPhones and the like, and I suppose it wouldn't surprise me a great deal to find out that the same applies to their computers.. But if I am attempting to boot from a different source, and use that to format and repartition my HDD, then I don't see why that would matter...
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Disabled iPhone 5 (iOS7) / Not able to restore / Macbook not recognising it

I'm new to this website so please bear with me! This is my problem:
One night my hilarious friends were messing around with my iPhone 5, specifically the passcode. To cut a long story short, my iPhone was disabled.
I've spent the last two days trying to restore it.
Firstly, I followed instructions online to enter into Recovery mode. This seemed to work as there appeared an iTunes logo and a white cable image with an arrow above it onscreen. However, my macbook did not recognise the phone whatsoever - completely ignored it, on iTunes or Finder.
After trying multiple combinations based on several different forums of home button+sleep switch holding/letting go/putting in cable for an hour or two, I took it into my local iStore. The guy in there had it for 3 hours but said he couldn't do anything with it, and he suggested I send it off to Apple. His collegue then suggested I try plugging it into a non-mac computer, e.g. a Windows system.
When I got back I plugged it into my grandma's latptop running Vista. I updated iTunes and plugged in the phone. This time iTunes recognized the iPhone. It said "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode" and gave me the option to "Restore".
(this is good point to point out I backed up my iPhone a few weeks ago, so don't really care if everything is completely wiped... a new system is quite refreshing anyway.)
I clicked "restore" and it began... took 10 mins, then gave me an error message. I went online and realised I needed to download some up-to-date firmware (which I did).
I clicked "restore" + Shift and selected a firmware file... didn't work. Did it again with a different firmware file... didn't work. I looked into the kind of files I needed, whether I should sign out of my iTunes account while it was restoring..... nothing worked.
To cut a long story short, I feel like I'm at the end of my tether. I've tried a lot of things and this is where I'm at, simply put:
Macbook won't recognise the iPhone, but Windows does.
Windows has problems in the last 30 seconds restoring the phone.
The iPhone is stuck between the apple logo and the iTunes/cable screen, not even going back to the "iPhone has been disabled" home screen.
Throughout all of my tests, my software has all been up-to-date. It's the first thing I check.
Basically I'm between a rock and a hard place: I can't use my iPhone, but I can't restore it either.
I've already talked with my service provider and (see above) taken the phone into the iStore, neither of which could help.
Is there anyone out there who has experienced this and / or able to help?

If you want to reinstall Mountain Lion, the installer creates a recovery partition to reinstall OS X and do some maintenance tasks. You can access to it pressing Command and R keys while your Mac is starting

I recently tried to factory restore my wife's macbook pro. I did the restore using the snow leapord disks that came with it. Shorty after my wife and i got Lion for both of our macbook pros. Hers unfortunately is still having problems. My question would be what are the steps to do a complete wipe of her system. I guess i'm looking for an out of the box factory restore, and the steps to do it, because i'm not sure how. If i do a restore would she loose Lion on her system? If so how can we get it back?
