Restore of recent iphone backup is without data

Hi,
Have made a erase/clean install of the latest IOS on my iPhone5s and did before that a restore backup in iTunes. The backup is less than two days old and appears as "latest" backup with correct time and date for the backup. When the restore is finished (10-12 min) and reboot + sync of apps is finished the iPhone is without any of my data from the time of backup - texts, data for apps, photos, contacts etc.......
I have tried a couple of times to restore from back up + erase all content and settings and reboot in itunes. All software on laptop (macbook pro i5) and iPhone is latest version (10.9.5/8.0.2). Last try to restore was with the latest update of iTunes (16.10.14).
1. Does anybody have any solutions?
2. Is there any way to access the latest backup (know where it is placed on hd, but don't know how to read the data) manually and check if it is empty (no clue why) or if lucky find eg. contacts and other data?
Background:
I had problems with loosing signal/connection (not wifi) at places where the phone shouldn't. Last troubleshooting was to erase all content and settings, and check for a 24 hr period if the phone kept loosing connection - to find out if it was a hardware or app/software problem. Before that I made a device backup in iTunes. I did encrypt it, but forgot to check the keychain-option . After testing the phone I wanted to restore the backup. At first iTunes wouldn't recognize the password I choose (100% sure it was the same). I looked in keychain for some time and found out it wasn't there because I didn't choose to by accident.
After several attempts with same password and any of the other standard passwords I use + ejecting iPhone + rebooting laptop I could suddenly access the restore backup without any password. This is weird and I have no idea why. Maybe something I did in Keychain Access, maybe magic. Anyway, the victory got a very sour taste when the iPhone lit up with empty spaces. Is it possible to only access to a part of the backup? And why didn't iTunes recognize my password? It seems like something is very messed up with the software/security. I am in general cautious on the internet and did recently a clean install of my laptop. Appreciate if anybody can help, if not make sure to make a backup of your backup somewhere safe.
Regards

sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
then import pics to computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes
Peace, Clyde

  • How can I restore an old iPhone backup from Time Machine?

    Hi there,
I lost my iPhone 4S but have a extra iPhone 4 (used for travel) that I would like to restore the 4S backup to.
The problem is that the backup of my 4S has somehow disappeared from itunes and the only one that shows up is the iPhone 4 backup even though they are set up as different devices with different names. I know that the backup for my 4S is included with my Time Machine backups (on external harddrive) but I can't find the files. Also very strange is that I don't have the folder "MobileSync" in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync on my computer. I can't find that folder anywhere.
My computer is less that 6 months old and I know that I have not deleted that folder or any other that are preinstalled.
I'm using OS X 10.9.4 and I don't want to restore my hole computer from Time Machine, just the files that hold my 4S backup.
Also note that I have not backed up everything from my 4S phone to iClould so that's not an option.
    I've tried everything including:
    - Restoring the settings on the iPhone 4 to factory settings and then connecting to itunes.
    - Deleting itunes and restoring it from Time Machine at a date that i knew had the original iphone backup.
Who ever can solve this for me deserves a gold medal. I'm truly desperate. I've searched all forums and haven't found a solution for this.
    Thanks.

    Correct.
You need to go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/.
The ~ indicates your User folder not the top level /Library/ folder.
Click on the desktop, then hold Option and go to Finder menu Go and Library will be there (only when holding Option as it is hidden).

  • Help! No info.plist, manifest.plist, or status.plist on Iphone backup...data can not be recovered

I'm at a lost here, I created a backup of my iphone before I updated my firmware.  When I went to go restore from backup, I noticed it did not backup completely.  I checked the 'C:\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup' and noticed that the folder that carries my backup does not have the info.plist, manifest.plist, or status.plist files??  All the data seems to be intact, just no way to extract it.  I already tried to use iPhone Backup Extractor, did not work.  Somebody please help me out, I don't want to be out of luck.  I'm missing all my past important SMS history, curcial Notes and emails.
    Thanks ahead of time,

If your backup is corrupted you cannot retrieve data from it.
I've been working on a tool that repairs most iPhone (iPad, iPod Touch) backups that iTunes reports as corrupted -- it seems to be working fairly well for people we've had using it lately! If someone stumbles on this post and wants to try it out, the program is Decipher Backup Repair, and you can try it here:
    http://deciphertools.com/download-decipher-backup-repair.html
As other people in the thread have mentioned, you can also try some third-party programs to read the backup and pull-out the important data so you at least have it in some capacity. We have one on the website I've linked above, in addition to the repair software.
I hope this helps someone who finds this thread! Dealing with iTunes backups can be really painful, and I know it's horribly depressing to wait through a restore to get the corrupted message after SEVERAL minutes.
(Note: As I mentioned, I work on the backup fixing software I linked to, so I stand to benefit, financially or otherwise, from the links I've provided.)

  • Restore only partial iphone backup

    Dear all,
Is it possible to only restore / retrieve the pictures out of an iPhone backup file (and ideally merge them with a new set of pictures)?
I lost all my data a few weeks ago when doing an iPhone software update, then restored a backup from iCloud but only found out much later that that didn't include my picture library. I do have that picture library in a backup file on my computer somewhere, so now I'd like to extract those pictures from it and merge it with the new picture library that has now build up on my phone over the past weeks.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Best regards,

  • Restoring iCloud's iPhone Backup to an iPod Touch

    Hi there.
My last birthday wasn't precisely the best, as I got my iPhone 4 stolen.
Had to deal with an Android device which isn't nearly as good as what I was used to have, so I decided to buy this fancy iPod Touch 4G 64 gb until the new iPhone arrives and see how it fares. My idea is to leave the Android phone only to make/answer calls and tether internet to the iTouch.
Problem is, I was thinking about restoring the stolen iPhone's iCloud backup to the iPod Touch so I didn't have to fiddle around with settings and stuff (and to not loose all my Chrono Trigger's advance ), but can't seem to be able to do that. I'm aware that those two are different devices and some things wouldn't work (like whatsapp without a proper mobile number), but it seems like a nonsense to me if you can't transfer the backup between two devices that are more or less the same.
I hope someone knows if there's a way to restore my iPhone's backup to the iTouch.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I finally managed to do that, weird thing is I had to wipe and restore the iPod Touch's and sync it with iCloud at the very beggining of the setup, obviously whatsapp doesn't work with the iTouch so it got automatically deleted, but for everything is Ok, I find the iTouch to be a tad slower than the iPhone though and miss the flash, but that's how it goes by now.

  • 3GS firmware downgrade to restore 2.x iPhone backup

I had an iPhone 3G that died May 2009, I will be getting an iPhone 3GS soon and I want to import my old phone as it was.
I don't want to just sync contacts, etc.
I want my old text messages, favorites, google map bookmarks, everything like it was when my last iPhone backup ran in May..
Can I downgrade firmware to 2.2 or whatever it was back then and then software update back to the current and keep all my settings?
    Has anyone done it?
I assume it won't even see the old iPhone backup from 2.x when I hook up a 3.X firmware phone

    It will see your backup just fine & keep the current firmware. Just follow the directions here;

  • Restoring iPhone Backup Files Without a iPhone

    Hello,
I had a iPhone 5 32GB that I recently lost. Because Sprint didn't have the replacement plan at the time of purchase, I'm out of a phone. I have a backup that contains my photos and videos (more important than the music) before my phone was lost. I do remember when I did the backup on a friends PC computer (encrypted) I'm still able to view the backup file. Is there a way I can take that backup file and copy it to my macbook without loosing or damaging anything? Are there any 3rd party apps out there someone can recommend?
    Any help is greatly appreciated

I was horrified to open my Voice Memos app earlier this evening and discover a distinct absence of recordings, as well. I downloaded iExplorer and, without purchasing or registering the software, was able to recover my memos from a backup.
    Download here: http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/
Upon opening iExplorer, chose "Continue with Demo" in the bottom right corner. Chose "Backups" on the right, under "Explore." A dialog box will prompt you to "Use Last Backup" or "Refresh." Click "Use Last Backup."
From the list of folders you now see, open "MediaDomain>Media>Recordings." Your voice memos are the files of type M4A. Simply select those files and drag them into a new folder on your desktop. You can then add the files from the folder on your desktop to iTunes and make a playlist or whatever else your heart desires. The dates and times of the memos seem to be lost, but at least the recordings themselves were salvagable. Hopefully this process resolves your issue. Good luck!
Also, I think it would be in our best interest to take a lesson from this, and manually backup our recordings on a regular basis from this point forward.

  • How do I restore my new iphone using the icloud data stored from another phone?

Yesterday my iPhone stopped working so I took it to the Apple store who replaced it with another one. I used iCloud when setting up this new one but this only restored my numbers to the new phone. I plugged the phone into my computer when I got home and again tried to restore my phone to the setup from yesterday. This changed the phone to the setup from over a year ago. I know my old phone backed up more recently than this because under iCloud 'Manage Storage' it shows that my old phone backed up yesterday. Any ideas how I can access this?

On your replacement phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings...you should now be able to use the backup from your old phone.

  • Disk Space not restored after deleting iphone backup

    Hi,
Today while restoring my iphone i realised that itunes had made multiple copies of ~3gb of my iphone data. Since my iphone was restored successfully I decided to remove all the backups and make a fresh new backup. After deleting the multiple backups I found that my available disk space had not increased at all. I even went to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and ther was nothing in there. So I went ahead and made a new backup which consumed additional ~3gb. And just to test if it was only itunes that was doing this I deleted my photos from iphoto ~5gb and even that did not give me back my 5gb. I went to trash and I dont have anything there.
So, here I am confused as to where my deleted stuff is going to because it does not seem like its getting deleted.
Anything that i can do get my space back?
    Thanks,
    Yogi

Local snapshots are hidden copies of files that have been changed or deleted in between Time Machine snapshots. They are stored in free space that would otherwise be unused, and therefore wasted. The space occupied by the snapshots is managed automatically. When free space starts to run low, the snapshots are deleted. The Finder reports the space occupied by local snapshots as "Available," which it is.
If there are unwanted changes to your files in between Time Machine snapshots — which may be far apart when you're moving around with a portable computer — you may be able to revert the changes from a local snapshot. If you disable local snapshots, you lose that protection, and you gain nothing. There is no offsetting benefit whatsoever; merely added risk.
Empty storage space is simply wasted. You paid for it to be there, but it's doing you no good at all. Local snapshots put it to use.
Very rarely, if ever, you might need to delete the local snapshot store in order to add a large amount of data all at once. If that need ever arises, which it probably won't, all you have to do is turn Time Machine OFF in its preference pane, and then turn it back ON immediately.
You should ignore the bad advice that circulates on this site to disable local snapshots permanently by running a shell command. If you ran such a command, ask for instructions on how to reverse it.

  • Restore iPad from iPhone backup

    Hi
I'm a long time iPhone user. Just got an iPad. I have backed up my iPhone to my PC and then restored the iPad from the backup.
The restore from backup definitely isn't working.
I'm following all the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
but it's not transfering messages, email accounts, wifi passwords, map bookmarks or anything that is listed in the list of backup-ed items here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    Super frustrating!
    PLEASE HELP.

It's simply, you have to connect iPad with iTunes and right click it on the sources in the left sidebar of it. Then you have to choose from the menu "Back up" when it's done disconnect iPad and connect iPhone do the same thing but from the menu you have to choose "Restore from Backup" and then choose the iPad backup you did before.

  • Restoring iPad from iPhone backup to get rid of 'Other'

I have a 32GB iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. In Itunes the iPad shows 5.99GB of 'Other' which I have been unable to ascertain exactly what this comprises of although a search of these forums indicates it may be corrupted material.
In the hope of regaining the 5.99Gb (or at least some of it) I am thinking of restoring the iPad from my iPhone 4 backup which has 2.35GB of 'Other'. This will at least release 3.6GB of space (if it works).
Any comments or suggestions about the feasibility doing of this? There seems to be conflicting views on the Internet so some comments would be appreciated.

  • HT1766 How long should it take to restore new iPhone backup from iCloud?

How long should it take to restore new 4s iPhone backup from iCloud?

That depends mostly on your Internet connection download speed, and how much data you have on the phone. It could take anything from a few minutes to several days. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

  • I have iPhone backups in iCloud that are not in my iTunes?

iCloud have me totally confused. I started with a .mac account which became a .me account and now I have an .icloud.com. I have a recent iphone backup that I want to restore to my phone and I can see it in my preference pane for iCloud. I cannot see it where I need it the most, in my itunes account. Are all these accounts not the same. Can they not all see the same information. This whole exercise is beginning to look very microsofty. Not what I expect from apple. I have had similar issues with this before. Is there a solution? Even a third party one that I can use. This icloud is not working for me at all. Even during the transition to iCloud all of my iDisk info was wiped.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    regards
    Ken
This is the backup i want thats in iCloud
These are the backups on my itunes

    Thanks for your reply.
As I stated I have three accounts.
I started back in the day with a .mac account. Then apple change this to a .me account. Now I have two. Then came icloud and now I have three. They were and are all appleID's, mail accounts etc.
When you say just restore your iClown backup to the device is this an easy do as I cannot find a pathway to that solution. I have been trying. Can you point me in that Direction.
As far as my iDisk data goes, I downloaded it and it was corrupt. When I discovered this apple had already deleted the information. I should have been more specific on that one.

  • Where did my old Iphone backup go?

    Dear iPhoners,
    I am lost!
I wanted to restore an old Iphone backup because I lost my most meaningful text messages. When I right clicked on the device it only showed me a backup from today!
When I looked in preferences-> devices-> It only showed one; the one I made today!
Also when I looked via users->appl data-> roaming -> mobileSync... it only showed methe same recent back up.. Now how can this be?
I am very very sad... and I looked through the internetforums, I tried to use backup extractor, which only showed me some 4 messages from april 2010, so I am still hopefull caus this means the data must be somewhere right?
But how can I restore my old  backup? I am most certain I NEVER deleted it myself. And when I try to google this strange phenomenon it only gives me information about restoring via backups the way it normally works.
    Help!

The photos will be in an Event.  Peruse in the Event mode to see if you can find the Event.
You know the file names of the photos you imported so search by file name to see if the photos can be found in iPhoto:
Can you find them?  If so you can Control (right) - click  on a photo and have it show you the Event.
