  • Restoring original firmware *without* iPod updater?

Recently (since upgrading to iTunes 6?), my 2nd gen iPod no longer mounts (on OS X or winXP). I'd like to roll back the firmware to try an earlier version, but this isn't possible with the iPod Updater software, since my iPod doesn't appear on my computer.
Can you restore the original firmware from the iPod ROM without using the updater? (ie. using some sort of button combination or hardware switch)
Also: my iPod charges over firewire when connected to the computer, but doesn't mount, so I'm guessing it isn't a firewire problem.

Absolutely, I have run into the same exact problem with my 20g iPod (second generation). It no longer mounts to the desktop or to iTunes. I've removed iTunes and attempted to reinstall the iPod Updater, but limits the updater to my hd, since the iPod fails to mount properly.
Also, if you check your system profiler, you'll see (most likely) that it is still reading the presence of the device. It's there, but it isn't. The device works fine when on its own, but simply does not mount.
They need to give us a solution ASAP that doesn't destroy all the information on our devices. We are sinking together.

Are you trying to assign a static ipv6 dns on the router? I think it is not possible yet but maybe if they will do an update or if it will be part of the update (if ever) that they will do on the classic firmware. For the EA routers, IPV6 packets are embedded in the IPV4 and the router will convert it using the 6rd tunnel.

  • Disconnected iPhone 4S causes Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router to reboot?

    Hello!
For the past several months, I noticed my old Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router (using the latest stock firmware) likes to reboot. I think I finally figured out its pattern. I think my house mate's Apple iPhone 4S (iOS 5 [will 6 fix it?]) is making my router reboot. I know he uses the house's wireless Internet to avoid his Verizon's capped, slower 3G Internet connection. It seems like when he goes out and after a few minutes later, my router sometimes will reboot.
That makes no sense. Weird! I never see this problem if he is out of town for days/weeks. I don't know how that is related. Is there something funky with this router and iPhone 4S' wifi? Is it a known issue? Electronics are so weird!
    Thank you in advance.

IT is still the router's problem.
Routers are not expensive. Get a new one.
Or, I think the WRT54 model routers can be re-flashed with the 'Tomato' or the 'dd-wrt' firmware.
Or you could chech if Cisco has its own firmware update for your router.
I did mention I was "using the latest stock firmware". I will see if a third party firmware will help even though it is tricky and easy to brick the router.

  • Needed: EA3500 Original Firmware

If someone has the original firmware for the EA3500 I would appreciate a copy. I need to downgrade my router after Cisco sabotaged it with their Cloud Connect. This will be the firmware you have right out of the box. Be sure you go into the Admin. section and Save a Copy before you ever connect to the Internet. Also Uncheck the Auto Updates box or you will be fed the Cloud Connect (and its amazing Terms Of Service). Thank you for any help

Was checking for more info about this concern and I stumbled upon this, looks like Cisco is addressing this concern:

  • Linksys WRT54GL not logging for its "Incoming Log Table"?

    Hello.
Is it me or does Linksys WRT54GL v1.1, with its firmware v4.30.13, not log "Incoming Log Table"? I see nothing in http://192.168.0.1/Log_incoming.asp (yes, I changed its IP address from its default 192.168.1.1). I do see logs in its outgoing though. I assume incoming log table is logging blockages and other datas.
    Thank you in advance.

Same problem in IE6, SeaMonkey v2.0.6, Firefox v3.5.11, etc. on two different computers (Windows XP Pro. SP3 and Debian/Linux). I only see:
    Incoming Log Table
    Source IP Destination Port Number
No IP addresses, etc. Just empty logs. I also tried power cycling the router too.

  • 3GS and Linksys WRT54GL Hangs

    Guys,
I've run into an interesting problem with my new 3GS. This is my first iPhone, and it doesn't appear to be playing nicely with my router. I know there are a few different threads on Wifi issues - but I think my problem is different. My 3GS Wifi connection seems to be fine - but I think it's causing my router to hang.
I have had a Linksys WRT54GL router running my home network for the past few years, and it has been flawless. However, after having bought my 3GS (picked up on Monday), my router has now hung twice - requiring a reboot. Here are the details.
    Network:
    - Linksys WRT54GL Router (wireless on, channel 9)
    - PPPoE login to DSL through a Westell 327W router configured as a DSL modem (DHCP off, wireless off)
    - WEP encryption on the router (128bit Hex), broadcast SSID off
    - A second WRT54GL router configured as a wireless access point (DHCP off, wireless on, channel 9)
    - Latest firmware on both Linksys devices
    iPhone:
    - Wifi left on all the time (phone goes to sleep, wakes up and reconnects fine)
    - No 3G in this area, so 3G turned off
    - Email set to 'push'
In both cases, my router has hung overnight. I woke up in the morning with no internet connection - wired or wireless. I have two computers hardwired to the router, and they lose connectivity to the network as well. The only solution is to power cycle the router. The router configured as an access point appears to be unaffected. At the moment, I'm wondering if it is somehow related to the IP address lease time - and the iPhone being set to push with wireless on. However, I'm not sure if push uses wifi at all if the phone is asleep.
I'm going to try some experiments, but they will probably take a while. I'm going to try going a few nights with the wireless on the phone turned off. Then I'm going to try going to 'fetch' instead of 'push'. The last thing I'm going to try is swapping the 'routers'. One is newer than the other, so I suppose the older one could be failing - but it just seems odd. It's only a couple of years old.
Does anyone have any other thoughts? Has anyone else noticed router hangs?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I left my phone turned on last night with the WIFI on. I left early this morning and didn't check the router but it is fine this evening.
I am not sure what was going on when I restarted my router the other day but I remember that neither the iPhone nor my MacBook were able to connect to the internet. My modem appeared to be functioning fine by the lights so I did not restart it.
All has been fine since I restarted the one time.
The only thing I can possibly think of is that both my 3G and my 3Gs have the same name and were both on at the time. The 3G is not active and has a different MAC address so that really shouldn't bother the router. I am just guessing AT&T would deny it access to the internet.

  • Original Firmware

Is it possible for me to go back to the original firmware installed on my ipod (30gb With Video).
Ever since i've downloaded iTunes7 and this stupid firmware upgrade my ipod, computer, and Itunes have been running super slow and nasty.

Okay, in clicking restore, it will format it (everything is backed up but im trying NOT to reformat it being that i have almost 4,000 songs and full seasons of TV shows and it would take almost 2 days to refill it and thats 2 more days that I, the one that spent $323.89 on a product, should not have to wait) and how am i, or you for that fact sure it will bring it back to the original state so that i may return to using iTunes6? It certainly didnt format the ipod when i upgraded, it shouldn't when i want to downgrade. Sorry if i sound like an @$$, but i'm overly fustrated right now.

  • Revert from DD-WRT to Linksys WRT54G v5.1 firmware

    I'm using DD-WRT v24-sp2 build 12548M on my Linksys WRT54G v5.1.
Where can I get the Linksys original firmware (v5.1) and how can I install it?

I don't think there's still an available firmware for any version of the WRT54G. This is a really old Linksys model and I'm not sure if there's a firwmare available anywhere else.

  • Linksys wrt54gl broadband limit problem

    Hello.
I`ve recently bought a WRT54GL router, and I`m having some problems with it. The original firmware the router came with had a bug, and couldn`t even connect to a PPPOE network. I downloaded the latest firmware version for this model (4.30.14 build 5, Oct. 26, 2009). Now it can connect to PPPOE but the broadband speed is limited to ~ 30Mbits/s.
My ISP normally provides a download speed up to 80-90MBits/s, and if I bypass the router, and connect the internet cable directly to my PC, it works.
The QoS is disabled, so this can`t be the problem, but I searched the internet, and I found that it can be because the router`s CPU is too slow and can`t handle connections up to 80-90Mbit/s download speed, but this sounds a little bit weird to me.
Did any of you gus run into this problem? Is it a hardware problem, or a software one? Maybe there`s something I need to set up in the admin interface?
    Thank you, Zoli

It is true that the date for the last firmware update is 10/19/2010, but unfortunately this is an error, because if you try to download the update you will see that the update actually is from 2009 not from 2010.
You can see it even on the download page:
    Firmware:
    10/19/2010
    Ver.4.30.14
    and the link is this:

  • Internet very slow use linksys WRT54gl

hi i have router linksys WRT54gl, in my office i hvae cpu, phones, camaras that conected to the router
lately its very slow the whole package and i think the problem is in the router i reboot it several times didnt help
    i see memory used : 90%
    can this be the problem?
please help me what do to i cant work like this
    thx

Where did you see the memory usage? The firmware on the router might not be updated so it is best that you do an upgrade. Make sure to reset and reconfigure the router after that.

  • Is there any way to restore the firmware on a MacBook 5,1?

After the update to mountain lion, my computer started giving me an SOS beep at startup. After a cycle or two it would start up and function normal until next time the battery died or when i had to restart it. Over the last couple months though it has gotten worse to the current point of not starting at all.
Prior  to mountain lion I had upgraded with more ram and an ssd, so yesterday I got a new drive and tested the old ram on the MacBook, but problem remained. So I am thinking at this point it might be the logic board failing. A hardware failure seems a strange coincidence to me, maybe this could be a bad firmware update?
Just wondering if it is possible to restore the firmware on this model of MacBook? Cannot find a restoration cd for my specific model.
Kind of desperate at this point as I am required to have a computer for school and don't really have the money to buy a new one this time of year. Replacing the logic board seems too expensive to be worth it.

    How would you re-enable it?
Maybe clamshell mode is an option for you:

Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

  • Update to iOS 5.1 causes iPhone to crash on "Restoring iPhone Firmware"

    Hello everyone.
I have been vry please with my iPhone 4 on Verizon for the last 6 months.  I was on iOS 5 which worked great.  Then this morning the AppStore icon had the familiar red circle indicating some apps had updates available.  I clicked Update All.  In there was an update for iOS5.1.  I clicked OK.
I gave me the usual License agreement etc… I clicked OK.
A few minutes later I looked at it and it showed a picture of a cable with an arrow towards an iTunes icon.  SO I plugged it to my computer and it launched iTunes.
iTunes tells me that my iPhone is in Recovery mode and I need to Restore.  Why is it in Recovery mode???  All I did was I clicked OK for software update!
I have no other choice but to click Restore.  It asks if I want to Restore and Update.  I click OK.
I downloads the software (25 minutes worth!!!) then goes through the motions.
    - Restoring iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone Restore
    - Restoring iPhone firmware.
After it sits on that Restoring firmware with a striped bar for about 30 seconds, all of a sudden, a new window pops up and says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (1)."
iMac 2.4G 24inch .  OS 10.6.8  All my software is up to date as of this morning.  That includes the most recent iTunes.
Nothing else is plugged in the USB ports.
    I have restarted the computer.
No third party firmware.  No illegal mods.  No jailbreaking or anything, all on the up and up.
I have called Apple tech support but was put on hold for 30 minutes and finally had to go to work.
I have done a search on this and other boards but could not find a solution.  Would anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

    UPDATE:
I tried about 6 or 7 times with no luck.  Maybe trying even more would have worked as Milis and some others have said.  But I ran out of patience.
So I called Apple tech support.  After a few minutes a woman answered, I explained the problem, she said that since it was out of warranty, it would cost $29 for a one time incident.  I said that since I did not initiate this problem I did not think I should have to pay for anything.  Then she put me on hold, and evidently sent me to the slow cue.  I waited for about 20 or so minutes and another woman answered.  She was very friendly and tried to be helpful but this was clearly out of her league so she transferred me to a specialist.  A very friendly british sounding woman came on and really wanted to get to the bottom of this.  She did a remote access to my computer so she could see the contents of the log files.  After a while, she determined that it could not be repaired.  She told me the phone had to be replaced.
So she filled out a request to that effect, gave me the location of the nearest Apple store and made an appointment for me.  I went there during lunch and they replaced my phone with a new (or new looking at least) unit.  They set it up and now everything is fine.  It is still on iOS5 but I really don't have any pressing need for iOS5.1 so, given this previous experience, I'm going to stay with 5 for a while.
Bottom line is that this was a real pain and huge waste of time.  But Apple support did come through without any trouble (apart from the waiting on hold) and got things fixed and working again.  The people I talked to did not have any idea of what might have caused this.  But one thing I was remember is this:  Usually I always do iOS updates through iTunes with the iPhone connected to the computer.  This was the first time that the update was started with the phone unconnected because it came about through the "Updates" panel of the phone's AppStore icon.  I'm not sure why this would cause the firmware update to go south but that is the only thing I can think of.
At the end of the day, I think I have to put that in the "You want cutting edge technology? well it's going to work most of the time but every now and then there will be the inevitable pothole" column.
